Dibenzo[b,e]phosphindolizines synthesized by a ring-closing metathesis of benzo[b]phospholes with two vinyl tethers

Highly Enantioselective Binaphthyl-Based Chiral Phosphoramidite Stabilized-Palladium Nanoparticles for Asymmetric Suzuki C-C Coupling Reactions

The optically pure binaphthyl-based phosphoramidite ligands and their perfluorinated analogs have been first used for the preparation of chiral palladium nanoparticles (PdNPs). These PdNPs have been extensively characterized by X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, ³¹P NMR, and thermogravimetric analysis techniques. The circular dichroism(CD) analysis of chiral PdNPs exhibited negative cotton effects. Perfluorinated phosphoramidite ligands provided smaller (2.32-3.45 nm) and well-defined nanoparticles, in comparison with the nonfluorinated analog (4.12 nm). The catalytic behavior of binaphthyl-based phosphoramidite stabilized chiral PdNPs has been investigated in the asymmetric Suzuki C-C coupling reactions for the formation of sterically hindered binaphthalene units, and high isolated yields (up to 85%) were achieved with excellent enantiomeric excesses (>99% ee). Recycling studies revealed that chiral PdNPs could be reused over 12 times without significant loss in activity and enantioselectivity (>99% ee). The nature of the active species was also investigated with a combination of poisoning and hot filtration tests and found that catalytically active species is the heterogeneous nanoparticles. These results indicate that the use of phosphoramidite ligands as a stabilizer for developing efficient and unique chiral nanoparticles could open up a field for many other asymmetric organic transformations promoted by chiral catalysts.

Synthesis, Structures, and Properties of π-Extended Phosphindolizine Derivatives

Dibenzo[b,g]phosphindolizine oxide and three types of benzo[e]naphthophosphindolizine oxides have been synthesized by the ring-closing metathesis of benzo[b]phosphole oxide and naphthophosphole oxides with two olefin tethers. Their molecular structures and properties were revealed by X-ray crystallographic analysis, UV-vis spectroscopy, and electrochemical analysis. The number and position of the benzene rings were found to alter the structural geometry and the HOMO/LUMO energy levels, and their effects were investigated by theoretical calculations. Among the phosphindolizine oxide derivatives investigated, only benzo[e]naphtho[2,3-b]phosphindolizine oxide with the naphthalene ring fused at 2,3-positions showed weak yellow fluorescence with a large Stokes shift.

Photo-induced trifunctionalization of bromostyrenes via remote radical migration reactions of tetracoordinate boron species

Tetracoordinate boron species have emerged as radical precursors via deboronation by photo-induced single electron transfer (SET) pathway. These reactions usually produce an alkyl radical and boron-bound species, and the valuable boron species are always discarded as a by-product. Given the importance of boron species, it will be very attractive if the two parts could be incorporated into the eventual products. Herein we report a photo-catalyzed strategy in which in situ generated tetracoordinated boron species decomposed into both alkyl radicals and boron species under visible light irradiation, due to the pre-installation of a vinyl group on the aromatic ring, the newly generated alkyl radical attacks the vinyl group while leaving the boron species on ipso-position, then both radical part and boron moiety are safely incorporated into the final product. Tertiary borons, secondary borons, gem-diborons as well as 1,2-diborons, and versatile electrophiles are all well tolerated under this transformation, of note, ortho-, meta- and para-bromostyrenes all demonstrated good capabilities. The reaction portraits high atom economy, broad substrate scope, and diversified valuable products with tertiary or quaternary carbon center generated, with diborons as substrates, Csp²-B and Csp³-B are established simultaneously, which are precious synthetic building blocks in chemical synthesis.

Tetracoordinate boron species are common radical precursors in organic synthesis, but the boron species are discarded as by-products. Herein the authors report a strategy to incorporate both the alkyl moiety and boron species into the eventual products, yielding organoboron compounds.
