Abstract
Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) constitute an evolving class of permanently porous and ordered materials, and they have recently attracted increased interest due to their intriguing morphological features and numerous applications in gas storage, adsorption, and catalysis. However, their low aqueous stabilities and tedious syntheses generally hamper their use in heterogeneous catalysis. Nonetheless, a capable and water-stable heterogeneous catalytic system for coupling CO2/epoxides to generate industrially important cyclic carbonates is still of great interest. Herein, exceedingly water- and thermally stable 2D-cobalt-impregnated hydrazone-linked fibrous COFs are reported as a catalyst for CO2/epoxide coupling reactions at ambient pressure. The functionalized cobalt (Co)-doped COFs demonstrated excellent catalytic activities with the high TONs (80925) and TOFs (6466 h-1), outperforming reported heterogeneous catalysts for CO2/epoxide coupling at ambient pressure. We found that the Co2+ ions within the COF matrix catalyze CO2 cycloaddition through density functional theory calculations. We also confirmed the excellent structural stability and consistent activity of Co-doped COFs up to ten repeating cycles.

Abstract
Two oxovanadium(iv) complexes ligated by [NNO] donor ligands have been synthesized and characterized by ESI-HRMS, elemental (CHN) analysis and spectroscopic (UV-Vis, IR and EPR) techniques. Block shaped brown crystals from the methanolic solutions of these oxovanadium(iv) complexes were obtained during the crystallization process. Crystallographic structures of the resulting crystals revealed that the original oxovanadium(iv) complexes have been transformed into new dioxovanadium(v) complexes with concomitant oxidation of VIV to VV. The original oxovanadium(iv) complexes have been identified to be an efficient catalyst for the CO2 cycloaddition reaction with epoxides resulting up to 100% cyclic carbonate products. The geometries of oxovanadium(iv) complexes are optimized by the density functional theory (DFT) calculations at the uB3LYP/6-31G**/LANL2DZ level of theory. The geometry and structural parameters of optimized structures of oxovanadium(iv) complexes are in excellent agreement with the parameters of X-ray structures of their dioxovanadium(v) counterparts. Further, TD-DFT and Spin Density Plots for the oxovanadium(iv) complexes are performed in order to get more insights about their electronic absorption and EPR spectroscopies, respectively.

Abstract
The aim of this work is to develop single-component bifunctional organic catalysts capable of effective coupling reactions between CO2 and propylene epoxide (PO) under mild conditions using density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The dual functionalities of the target catalysts come from their inclusion of a hydroxyl-containing electrophile and the nucleophilicity of iodide ion. In this respect, a series of hydroxyl-functionalized quaternary onium-based ionic liquids were studied using M062X-D3/def2-TZVP//M062X-D3/def2-SVPP model chemistry. The design of catalysts was based on tailoring two structural factors; the first one is the onium center of pnictogens (N, P, As, Sb and Bi), and the second one is the number of hydrogen bond donor groups (n = 1-3). The proposed catalysts were examined by investigation of their catalytic mechanisms to afford the cyclic carbonate. Additionally, the highest active transition state, along with the potential energy difference, was examined using non-covalent interaction (NCI) analysis. Also, the activation strain model (ASM) was used to explain the kinetic behavior of PO activation. The findings showed that the ring-opening step of PO is always the critical step of the reaction. Among the suggested catalysts, the results indicated that the dihydroxyl ammonium-based catalyst (2OH-NI) is a good choice for this catalysis under mild and solvent-free conditions.
