Abstract
ABSTRACTThis study presents the use of a low-temperature hydrothermal method for extracting calcium sources from green mussel shell (P. Viridis) wastes and converting them into synthetic nanosized hydroxyapatite (HA). In this study, raw mussel shells were washed, pulverised, and sieved to start producing a fine calcium carbonate-rich powder. XRD quantitative analysis confirmed that the powder contains 97.6 wt. % aragonite. This powder was then calcined for 5 h at 900 °C to remove water, salt, and mud, yielding a calcium-rich feedstock with major minerals of calcite (68.7 wt.%), portlandite (24.7 wt.%), and minor aragonite (6.5 wt.%). The calcined powders were dissolved in aqueous stock solutions of HNO3 and NH4OH before hydrothermally reacting with phosphoric acid [(NH4)2HPO4], yielding pure, nanoscale (16-18 nm) carbonated HA crystals, according to XRD, FT-IR, and SEM analyses. The use of a low-temperature hydrothermal method for a feedstock powder produced by the calcination of low-cost mussel shell wastes would be a valuable processing approach for the industry's development of large-scale hydroxyapatite nanoparticle production.

Abstract
Hydroxyapatite (HAp) exists as an inorganic and crystalline composition present in bones and dental enamel, and hence can be utilized as a direct element or as part of the composition of biomaterials and implants for dental and orthopaedic applications. Listed below are a few synthesis techniques for HAp that are listed in the literature: solid-state and mechano-chemical methods (dry methods), wet chemical precipitation and sol-gel methods (wet methods), and combustion and pyrolysis methods (high-temperature processes). Nevertheless, there are new and more productive techniques that result in HAp with a regulated morphology, such as the Schiff base method, which, on reaction with calcium and phosphate precursors, forms chelating complexes to produce HAp nuclei. This research paper presents the comparison in characteristics between HAp synthesized using Schiff base (HAp-SB), wet chemical precipitation (HAp-WC) methods, and commercial HAp (HAp-CM) in their powdered and pelleted form. The average size of HAp-WC particles in the spherical form was found to be 603 nm ± 176, HAp-SB were found to have rod-like morphology, which is very similar to human bone-like HAp, with an average length and width of 1522 nm ± 759 and 400 nm ± 112, respectively, and HAp-CM were found to have spherical morphology with dimensions of 52 nm ± 25. Biological studies show that cell viability of HAp-SB pellet (202.01% ± 8.16) seemed to have higher cell proliferation properties than HAp-WC pellet (145.7% ± 5.11) and HAp-CM pellet (71.53% ± 3.61) due to its higher aspect ratio, and hence higher surface area for the cells to adhere. In a detailed study, it is observed that both techniques had their advantages, and there were no significant disadvantages observed.

Abstract
The aim of this work is to review the application of bioceramic materials in the context of current regenerative dentistry therapies, focusing on the latest advances in the synthesis of advanced materials using the sol-gel methodology. Chemical synthesis, processing and therapeutic possibilities are discussed in a structured way, according to the three main types of ceramic materials used in regenerative dentistry: bioactive glasses and glass ceramics, calcium phosphates and calcium silicates. The morphology and chemical composition of these bioceramics play a crucial role in their biological properties and effectiveness in dental therapeutics. The goal is to understand their chemical, surface, mechanical and biological properties better and develop strategies to control their pore structure, shape, size and compositions. Over the past decades, bioceramic materials have provided excellent results in a wide variety of clinical applications related to hard tissue repair and regeneration. Characteristics, such as their similarity to the chemical composition of the mineral phase of bones and teeth, as well as the possibilities offered by the advances in nanotechnology, are driving the development of new biomimetic materials that are required in regenerative dentistry. The sol-gel technique is a method for producing synthetic bioceramics with high purity and homogeneity at the molecular scale and to control the surfaces, interfaces and porosity at the nanometric scale. The intrinsic nanoporosity of materials produced by the sol-gel technique correlates with the high specific surface area, reactivity and bioactivity of advanced bioceramics.

Abstract
In synthetic fabrication, the process parameters decide the growth nucleation, phase translation, and the evolution of morphological facets of nanostructured materials. This work demonstrates the formation of different crystallographic phases of calcium phosphate by the influence of pH from acidic to alkaline conditions and also investigated their bone regeneration, protein adsorption, and pro-angiogenic properties. Present results illustrate that the alteration of pH is the crucial factor for the synthesis of calcium phosphate (CP) phases. The structural analysis reveals the monetite (CaHPO4 ) phase with a triclinic crystal system for pH 5, dual-phase of monetite combined with hydroxyapatite at the neutral pH 7, and pure phase of hydroxyapatite (Ca10 [PO4 ]6 OH2 ) with hexagonal structure at pH 10. Microscopic analysis portrays the cubic and rod-like morphologies by changing the pH values. FTIR and RAMAN spectroscopic analyses confirm the stretching, bending, and vibrational modes of dominant phosphate groups of different CP phases. Further, the biocompatibility of the prepared CP phases was examined by hemolysis assay, which showed less than 2% of lysis and enhanced cell viability. Moreover, the bioactivity study revealed rapid mineralization and a higher protein adsorption rate for the monetite CP phase (M-CP). Subsequently, the chick embryo angiogenesis assay elucidated 33% higher neovascularization for M-CP compared with the other two CP phases. The fabricated M-CP nanostructure constitutes a promising candidate for biomedical applications.

Abstract
In biomedical exploration, the predominant characteristic is synthesizing and fabricating multifunctional nanostructure with intensified biocompatibility and excellent antibacterial applications to avoid post-surgical implant failure. The objective of the current study is to examine ideal mesoporous zinc-doped hydroxyapatite (HAp) for future use in the field of biomedical research. In the present investigation, we synthesized mesoporous Zn-doped HAp nanorods with varied mole concentrations using a profound microwave hydrothermal method utilizing bio-waste Nodipecten nodosus scallop as a calcium source and CTAB as an organic modifier. Bio-waste Nodipecten nodosus scallop is a widely available cheap calcium precursor which is converted into pure and zinc-doped hydroxyapatite nanorods with the help of the microwave hydrothermal method. Different analytical techniques like spectroscopy and electron microscopy were employed to evaluate and precisely characterize the structural and morphological characteristics in synthesized pure and mesoporous Zn-doped HAp nanorods. CTAB and microwave hydrothermal methods successfully create mesoporous Zn-doped hydroxyapatite nanorods with different sizes and morphology. Mesoporous Zinc-doped HAp nanorods show excellent antibacterial activity against Klebsiella pneumoniae (MTCC 7407) and Bacillus subtilis (MTCC 1133), compared to other nanorods. ZnHAp-3 shows notable excellent results of antibacterial effect towards K. pneumoniae and B. subtilis, by exhibiting 12.36 ± 0.12 and 13.12 ± 0.16 mm zone of inhibition. Furthermore, ZnHAp-1 shows the lower zone of inhibition, while the ZnHAp-3 sample shows the highest zone of inhibition. A foremost study performed was toxicity assays to validate safe attributes of mesoporous zinc-doped HAp intensified with the proliferation function of the zebrafish model. The results reveal the non-toxic behavior of pure and mesoporous zinc-doped HAp samples. Thus, our studies provide evidence for the synthesis technique for the mesoporous zinc-doped HAp nanorods using a novel CTAB-enabled microwave hydrothermal method utilizing bio-waste Nodipecten nodosus scallop as a calcium source will be alternative affordable biocidal antibacterial materials for controlling post-surgical implant failures.

Abstract
The development of clinically advanced multifaceted therapeutic materials for osteosarcoma is at the forefront of cancer research. Accordingly, this work presents the design of a multifunctional magnetic nanocomposite composed of maghemite, strontium doped hydroxyapatite and silica nanoparticles prospectively holding indispensable therapeutic features such as magnetic hyperthermia,in vitrobiomineralization, sustained drug release and intrinsic radiopacity for the treatment of osteosarcoma. The optimal composition has been identified by sequentially modulating the ratio of precursors of the magnetic nanocomposite synthesized by sol-gel technique. Structural and morphological characterization by x-ray diffraction, fourier transform infrared spectrum, Brunauer-Emmet-Teller and transmission electron microscopy analyses followed by VSM, hyperthermia and micro-CT analyses essentially assisted in the selective configuration of biofunctional properties. Results exemplify that MSHSr1 has a saturation magnetization of 47.4 emu g-1and attained hyperthermia temperature (42 °C) at a very low exposure time of 4 min. MSHSr1 is further unique with respect to its exceptional x-ray attenuation ability (contrast enhancement 154.5% in digital radiography; CT number 3100 HU), early biomimetic mineralization (in vitro) evident by the formation of spheroidal apatite layer (Ca/P ratio 1.33) harvested from FESEM-EDX analysis and controlled release of Doxorubicin, the clinically used chemotherapeutic drug: 87.7% at 120 h in tumour analogous pH (6.5) when compared to physiological pH (71.3% at 7.4). MTT assay complemented with cytoskeleton (F-actin) staining of human osteosarcoma (HOS) cells affirm biocompatibility of MSHSr1.In vitrobiomineralization authenticated by Alizarin red S and von Kossa staining has been further corroborated by semi-quantitative calcium estimation of HOS cells cultured with MSHSr1 for two weeks. The results therefore validate the multifunctionality of MSHSr1, and hence could be proposed as a combinatorial therapeutic nanocomposite for osteosarcoma treatment.

Abstract
This review presents the actual state of knowledge and recent research results on the magnetic composite synthesized from iron oxide (γ-Fe2O3 or Fe3O4) and hydroxyapatite. It can be obtained applying some methods, i.e. chemical precipitation, hydrothermal, sol-gel, and biomimetic or combined techniques which exhibit characteristic properties affecting the form of the prepared product. More specific details are discussed in this paper. A comparison of the discussed synthesis methods is presented. On the basis of selected publications, a comparison of the results of the analysis by XRD, FTIR, SEM and EDX methods for hydroxyapatite with a magnetic core was also presented. Moreover, the characteristics large adsorption capacity and specific area allow employing nanocomposites as adsorbents particularly in removal of toxic metal ions. Nowadays this issue is extremely vital due to large amounts of pollutants in the environment and greater ecological awareness of people. Moreover, magnetic hydroxyapatite can be also applied as a catalyst in various syntheses or oxidation reactions as well as in medicine in magnetic resonance imaging, hyperthermia treatment, drug delivery and release, bone regeneration or cell therapy.

Abstract
Infections after bone reconstructive surgery become an authentic therapeutic and economic issue when it comes to a modern health care system. In general; infected bone defects are regarded as contraindications for bone grafting. Since the pathogens develop a biofilm on the inner surface of the bone; local delivery of antibiotics becomes more important. The present work focuses on the synthesis of Mesoporous Hydroxyapatite (MPHAP) loaded with drug Vancomycin (Van) and to investigate its loading and leaching ability in phosphate buffer solution (PBS), to be used for post-operative infections. The effect of pore size on MPHAP was analyzed using different fatty acids as organic modifiers. The impacts of various fatty acids chain length on the morphology and pore size were studied. A simple impregnation technique with optimized conditions ensured a high antibiotic loading (up to 0.476 + 0.0135 mg/mL), with a complete in vitro release obtained within 50 h.
