Abstract
A new iron-catalyzed three-component perfluoroalkylarylation of styrenes with alkyl halides and arenes has been established. Alkyl halides undergo halogen atom transfer with methyl radicals to form alkyl radicals in reactions initiated by a combination of tert-butyl peroxybenzoate and an iron catalyst, thus adducting to the olefins, which results in alkylarylation products. The protocol is compatible with a wide range of perfluoroalkyl and non-perfluoroalkyl halides, features excellent functional group tolerance, and enables the synthesis of structurally diverse 1,1-diaryl fluoro-substituted alkanes.

Abstract
Introduction of the trifluoromethyl (CF3) group into organic compounds has garnered substantial interest because of its significant role in pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals. Here, we report a hydroxylamine-mediated radical process for C(sp2)-H trifluoromethylation of terminal alkenes. The reaction shows good reactivity, impressive E/Z selectivity (up to >20 : 1), and broad functional group compatibility. Expansion of this approach to perfluoroalkylation and late-stage trifluoromethylation of bioactive molecules demonstrates its promising application potential. Mechanistic studies suggest that the reaction follows a radical addition and subsequent elimination pathway.

Abstract
Herein, a simple and efficient strategy that involves dual 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene (DBU)/iron-catalyzed alkene perfluoroalkylvinylation by using perfluoroalkyl iodides and 2-aminonaphthalene-1,4-diones as coupling partners is demonstrated. In terms of the developed catalytic system, various styrenes and aliphatic alkenes are well-tolerated, leading to the accurate preparation of perfluoroalkyl-containing 2-aminonaphthalene-1,4-diones in excellent regioselectivity. Moreover, the protocol can be readily applied in late-stage modifications of natural products and pharmaceuticals. The title reactions are featured by easily accessible and inexpensive catalysts and substrates, broad substrate applicability, and mild reaction conditions. Mechanistic investigations reveal a tandem C-I cleavable alkylation and C-C vinylation enabled by cooperative DBU/iron catalysis.

Abstract
We describe a "ligand-free" Ni-catalyzed perfluoroalkylation of heteroarenes to produce a diverse array of trfiluoromethyl, pentafluoroethyl and heptafluoropropyl adducts. Catalysis proceeds at room temperature via a radical pathway. The catalytic protocol is distinguished by its simplicity, and its wide scope demonstrates the potential in the late-stage functionalization of drug analogues and peptides.

Abstract
The new anionic nickelate complexes [(MeCN)Ni(C4F8)(CF3)]-, [(MeCN)Ni(C4F8)(C2F5)]-, [(IMes)Ni(C4F8)(CF3)]-, [(IMes)Ni(CF3)3]- (IMes = 1,3-bis(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)imidazol-2-ylidene), and [(F-NHC)Ni(Rf)3]- (F-NHC = 1,3-bis(2,4-F2Ph), 2,4,6-F3Ph- or 3,4,5-F3Ph)imidazol-2-ylidene; (Rf = CF3 or C2F5) were synthesized and structurally characterized. The electrochemical properties of all new compounds were revealed by cyclic voltammetry studies and compared to the known CF3 analogue [(MeCN)Ni(CF3)3]-. The IMes-coordinated complexes exhibited initial oxidation events that were well-separated from a second oxidation process in the cyclic voltammograms. The complexes containing F-substituted NHC ligands [(F-NHC)Ni(CF3)3]- are structurally quite similar to the IMes derivative and reveal also two separated oxidation waves in their cyclic voltammograms. The absolute potentials as well as the separation between the two waves vary with the substitution pattern, suggesting that the NHC ligand environment (NHC = N-heterocyclic carbene) is an interesting platform for the development of new redox-triggered reactions that release trifluoromethyl and perfluoroalkyl radicals upon oxidation.

Abstract
Fluoroalkylations have received increasing attention in the academic and industrial environment due to the particular properties of the active ingredients that are strongly influenced by fluoroalkyl substituents. The inherent difficulties of introducing a fluoroalkyl substituent into advanced intermediates has triggered the development of an enormous number of specialized reagents, which, however, are often not suitable for large scale applications. In contrast to this reagent based fluoroalkylation approach, the direct activation of industrially readily available fluoroalkyl halides could be more suitable for a large-scale process. In this way the dithionite initiated fluoroalkylation as well as newly developed catalytically activated fluoroalkylation protocols were considered for industrial large-scale applications.

Abstract
The acetonitrile-solvated [(MeCN)Ni(C2 F5 )3 ]- was prepared in order to compare and contrast its reactivity with the known [(MeCN)Ni(CF3 )3 ]- towards organic electrophiles. Both [(MeCN)Ni(CF3 )3 ]- and [(MeCN)Ni(C2 F5 )3 ]- successfully react with aryl iodonium and diazonium salts as well as alkynyl iodonium salts to give fluoroalkylated organic products. Electrochemical analysis of [(MeCN)NiII (C2 F5 )3 ]- suggests that, upon electro-oxidation to [(MeCN)n NiIII (C2 F5 )3 ], reductive homolysis of a perfluoroethyl radical occurs, with the concomitant formation of [(MeCN)2 NiII (C2 F5 )2 ]. Catalytic C-H trifluoromethylations of electron-rich arenes were successfully achieved using either [(MeCN)Ni(CF3 )3 ]- or the related [Ni(CF3 )4 ]2- . Stoichiometric reactions of the solvated nickel complexes reveal that "ligandless" nickel is exceptionally capable of serving as reservoir of CF3 groups under catalytically relevant conditions.

Abstract
The selective synthesis of fluorinated organic molecules continues to be of major importance for the development of bioactive compounds (agrochemicals and pharmaceuticals) as well as unique materials. Among the established synthetic toolbox for incorporation of fluorine-containing units, efficient and general reagents for introducing -CF2- groups have been largely neglected. Here, we present the synthesis of 3,3-difluoropropen-1-yl ammonium salts (DFPAs) as stable, and scalable gem-difluoromethylation reagents, which allow for the direct reaction with a wide range of fascinating nucleophiles. DFPAs smoothly react with N-, O-, S-, Se-, and C-nucleophiles under mild conditions without necessity of metal catalysts with exclusive regioselectivity. In this way, the presented reagents also permit the straightforward preparation of many analogues of existing pharmaceuticals.
