Abstract
Hydrogen production technology has triggered a research boom in order to alleviate the problems of environmental pollution and the pressure on non-renewable energy sources. The key factor of this technology is the use of an efficient photocatalyst. g-C3N4 is a typical semiconductor photocatalytic material that is non-toxic and environmentally friendly and does not cause any serious harm to human beings. Therefore, it can be applied to drug degradation and the photocatalytic production of H2. Combined with ZnIn2S4, this semiconductor photocatalytic material, with a typical lamellar structure, has become one of the most promising catalysts for research due to its suitable bandgap structure and excellent photoelectric properties. In this study, 10% g-C3N4/ZnIn2S4 nano-heterojunction composite photocatalytic materials were successfully prepared by compounding ZnIn2S4 and g-C3N4 semiconductor materials with good visible-light-trapping ability. Under visible light irradiation, the photocatalytic activity of the composites was significantly better than that of pure g-C3N4 and ZnIn2S4. This is attributed to the formation of a heterojunction structure, which effectively inhibited the recombination of photogenerated carriers through the interfacial contact between the two semiconducting materials, and then improved the separation efficiency of the photogenerated electron-hole pairs, thus enhancing the catalytic activity. In this study, pure g-C3N4 and ZnIn2S4 were prepared using calcination and hydrothermal methods, and then, the composites were synthesized using ultrasonic and hydrothermal means. The differences in the structure, morphology, and hydrogen production performance of the materials before and after recombination were analyzed in detail using XRD, SEM, and FTIR characterization, which further verified that the 10% g-C3N4/ZnIn2S4 nano-heterojunction composites possessed excellent photocatalytic activity and stability, providing new possibilities for the optimization and application of photocatalytic hydrogen production technology.

Construction of S-scheme CuInS 2/ZnIn 2S 4 heterostructures for enhanced photocatalytic activity towards Cr(VI) removal and antibiotics degradation. CHEMOSPHERE 2024; 352:141351. Abstract
The efficient and ecofriendly removal of pharmaceutical antibiotics and heavy metal Cr(VI) from water sources is a crucial challenge in current environmental management. Photocatalysis presents a viable environmentally friendly solution for eliminating organic contaminants and heavy-metal ions. In this study, a novel S-scheme CuInS2/ZnIn2S4 (CIS/ZIS) heterojunction was developed using a one-pot solvothermal method. The optimized CIS/ZIS heterojunction exhibited considerably improved photocatalytic activity for the removal of antibiotics and Cr(VI), achieving over 90% removal for both tetracycline hydrochloride (TC) (20 mg/L) and Cr(VI) (20 mg/L) under visible light irradiation. The study also delved into the effect of coexisting inorganic anions and assessed the cyclic stability of the composite photocatalysts. This enhancement mechanism can be delineated into three key elements. First, the incorporation of the narrow-gap semiconductor CuInS2 effectively augmented the photoabsorption capacity. Second, the inclusion of ZnIn2S4 caused an increase in surface active sites. Most importantly, the internal electric field at the interface between CuInS2 and ZnIn2S4 expedited the separation of photogenerated carriers. Furthermore, the results revealed that superoxide radical and photogenerated holes are the primary active substance responsible for TC removal, while photogenerated electrons play a central role in the photoreduction of Cr(VI). To gain insights into the transport pathways of photogenerated carriers, we conducted experiments with nitrotetrazolium blue chloride (NBT) and photodeposited gold. This study offers an innovative approach to enhancing the photocatalytic performance of ternary In-based materials by constructing S-scheme heterojunctions.

Abstract
In this work, CQDs decorated MnIn2S4/CdS/Bi2S3 heterojunction was prepared successfully by hydrothermal technique for photocatalytic disinfection of Escherichia coli (E. coli) and mineralization of methyl orange (MO) dye. The charge transferal route and mineralization process in CQDs-MnIn2S4/CdS/Bi2S3 heterojunction were comprehensively investigated by advanced spectroscopic techniques. The improved visible-light activity and enhanced photo-generated charge transferal efficacy caused dual Z-scheme CQDs-MnIn2S4/CdS/Bi2S3 heterojunction to achieve boosted photodegradation ability. The catalytic degradation trend was followed as CQDs-MnIn2S4/CdS/Bi2S3 > MnIn2S4 > CdS > Bi2S3. The dye was mineralized within 180 min under visible light irradiation. The effect of reaction parameters, pH effect, catalyst dosage, and H2O2 addition on MO degradation was also investigated. The degradation rate was maximal at pH 4 with a pseudo-first-order rate constant, 0.0438 min-1. The assessment of antibacterial properties revealed that CQDs-MnIn2S4/CdS/Bi2S3 composite effectively inactivated E. coli under visible light. Scavenging experiments, transient photocurrent response, and electron spin resonance spectroscopy suggested that •[Formula: see text] and holes were the dominant reactive species. The Z-scheme heterojunction is recyclable up to ten photocatalytic cycles according to recycling experiments. This research indicates the importance of dual Z-scheme CQDs decorated MnIn2S4/CdS/Bi2S3 heterojunction in wastewater remediation.

Abstract
NiO nanosheets are synthesized in situ on gas sensor chips using a facile solvothermal method. These NiO nanosheets are then used as gas sensors to analyze allyl mercaptan (AM) gas, an exhaled biomarker of psychological stress. Additionally, MnO2 nanosheets are synthesized onto the surfaces of the NiO nanosheets to enhance the gas-sensing performance. The gas-sensing response of the NiO nanosheet sensor is higher than that of the MnO2 @NiO nanosheet sensor. The response value can reach 56.69, when the NiO nanosheet sensor detects 40 ppm AM gas. Interestingly, a faster response time (115 s) is obtained when the MnO2 @NiO nanosheet sensor is exposed to 40 ppm of AM gas. Moreover, the selectivity toward AM gas is about 17-37 times greater than those toward confounders. The mechanism of gas sensing and the factors contributing to the enhance gas response of the NiO and MnO2 @NiO nanosheets are discussed. The products of AM gas oxidized by the gas sensor are identified by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC/MS). AM gas detection is an unprecedented application for semiconductor metal oxides. From a broader perspective, the developed sensors represent a new platform for the identification and monitoring of gases released by humans under psychological stress, which is increasing in modern life.

Abstract
It is an urgent and onerous task to develop catalysts for photocatalytic reduction of Cr(VI) in wastewater under wide pH range. In this work, a novel hierarchical Z-scheme MnO2/MnIn2S4 (MISO) heterojunction photocatalyst with MnIn2S4 nanosheets growing on the surface of β-MnO2 nanorods is constructed for efficient photocatalytic reduction of Cr(VI). The optimized 2.0-MISO photocatalyst exhibits the almost 100% reduction efficiency in the pH range of 2.1-5.6 under visible light irradiation, and the apparent rate constant is 0.05814 min-1, which is 29.96 and 3.27 times higher than the pure β-MnO2 and MnIn2S4, respectively. A efficient photocatalytic reduction of Cr(VI) to Cr(III) species on 2.0-MISO photocatalyst in actual industry wastewater (286.7 mg/L) up to 99.8% is achieved. Under natural light, the 2.0-MISO photocatalyst also shows rapid reduction of Cr(VI) species. The photocorrosion of MnIn2S4 was significantly hindered by the construction of heterojunction. And the O2- and e- species are the main active species during the Cr(VI) photoreduction process. The connection mode between MnIn2S4 and β-MnO2 is verified by DFT calculations and a possible photocatalytic mechanism is also proposed.

Abstract
Sonodynamic therapy (SDT) typically suffers from compromised anticancer efficacy owing to the low reactive oxygen species (ROS) yield and complicated tumor microenvironment (TME) which can consume ROS and support the occurrence and development of tumors. Herein, ultrathin-FeOOH-coated MnO2 nanospheres (denoted as MO@FHO) as sonosensitizers which can not only facilitate ultrasound (US)-triggered ROS but also tune the TME by hypoxia alleviation, H2 O2 consumption as well as glutathione (GSH) depletion are designed. The FeOOH coating will boost the production yield of singlet oxygen (1 O2 ) and hydroxyl radicals (• OH) by inhibiting the recombination of US-initiated electron-hole pairs and Fenton-like reaction, respectively. Additionally, the catalase-like and GSH peroxidase-like activities of MO@FHO nanospheres enable them to break the TME equilibrium via hypoxia alleviation and GSH depletion. The combination of high ROS yield and fundamental destruction of TME equilibrium results in satisfactory antitumor outcomes, as demonstrated by the high tumor suppression efficacy of MO@FHO on MDA-MB-231-tumor-bearing mice. No obvious toxicity is detected to normal tissues at therapeutic doses in vivo. The capability to modulate the ROS production and TME simultaneously can afford new probability for the development of advanced sonosensitizers for synergistic comprehensive cancer therapy.

Abstract
In this work, two-dimensional Bi2O2CO3 disk is synthesized, followed by the growth of Bi2S3 over Bi2O2CO3 via topotactic transformation by controlling the amount of thiourea under hydrothermal conditions. The synthesized composite catalyst is investigated for photocatalytic oxidation and reduction of tetracycline hydrochloride and hexavalent chromium under visible light irradiation. High interfacial contact between the Bi2O2CO3 disk0 and Bi2S3 fiber is confirmed via high-resolution microscopic imaging. Enhanced light absorption and increased charge carrier separation is observed after the formation of the Bi2S3/Bi2O2CO3 composite. The Bi2S3/Bi2O2CO3 composite grown using 1 mmol of thiourea shows approximately 98% degradation of tetracycline hydrochloride after 120 min and 99% Cr(VI) reduction after 90 min of photochemical reaction under visible light irradiation. The charge separation is due to the formed internal electric field at the interface, which upon light irradiation follows a z-scheme charge transfer hindering the recombination at the Bi2S3 and Bi2O2CO3 interface, thereby contributing efficiently to the photochemical process. In addition, the mechanism of the photochemical reaction for the degradation of pollutants is supported using quencher and probe experiments. Furthermore, photoelectrochemical detection of antibiotic in aqueous solution is conducted to understand the sensing feasibility of the synthesized system.
