Abstract
Manganese (Mn) is a versatile transition element with diverse oxidation states and significant biological importance. Mn-based nanozymes have emerged as promising catalysts in various applications. However, the direct use of manganese oxides as oxidase mimics remains limited and requires further improvement. In this study, we focus on hydroxylated manganese (MnOOH), specifically the layered form β-MnOOH which exhibits unique electronic and structural characteristics. The two-dimensional β-MnOOH nanosheets were synthesized through a hydrothermal approach and showed remarkable oxidase-like activity. These nanosheets effectively converted the oxidase substrate, 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB), into its oxidized form by initiating the conversion of dissolved oxygen into ·O2-, 1O2 and ·OH. However, in the presence of L-cysteine (L-Cys), the catalytic activity of β-MnOOH was significantly inhibited, enabling highly sensitive detection of L-Cys. This sensing strategy was successfully applied for smartphone-based L-Cys assay, offering potential utility in the diagnosis of Cys-related diseases. The exploration of layered β-MnOOH nanosheets as highly active oxidase mimics opens up new possibilities for catalytic and biomedical applications.

Abstract
In this study, an antibacterial material (CNF@CoMn-NS) with oxidase-like activity was created using ultrathin cobalt‑manganese nanosheets (CoMn-NS) with a larger specific surface area grown onto pineapple peel cellulose nanofibrils (CNF). The results showed that the CoMn-NS grew well on the CNF, and the obtained CNF@CoMn-NS exhibited good oxidase-like activity. The imidazole salt framework of the CNF@CoMn-NS contained cobalt and manganese in multiple oxidation states, enabling an active redox cycle and generating active oxygen species (ROS) such as singlet molecular oxygen atoms (1O2) and superoxide radical (·O2-), resulting in the significant inactivation of Staphylococcus aureus (74.14%) and Escherichia coli (54.87%). Importantly, the CNF@CoMn-NS did not exhibit cytotoxicity. The CNF@CoMn-NS further self-assembled into a CNF@CoMn-NS paper with flexibility, stability, and antibacterial properties, which can effectively protect the wound of two varieties of pears from decay caused by microorganisms. This study demonstrated the potential of using renewable and degradable CNF as substrate combined with artificial enzymes as a promising approach to creating antibacterial materials for food preservation and even extending to textiles and biomedical applications.

Abstract
Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) is a common foodborne pathogen, posing a serious threat to public health. Consequently, it is crucial to establish a platform for sensitive and specific determination of S. aureus in food. Herein, phage SapYZUH5, isolated by our lab, was covalently immobilized on Co3O4 to synthesize SapYZUH5@Co3O4. Notably, SapYZUH5@Co3O4 exhibited remarkable oxidase-like activity, enabling the catalysis of dissolved oxygen to generate superoxide anion free radicals and accelerate the TMB chromogenic reaction. Upon introduction of S. aureus, specific capture by SapYZUH5@Co3O4 resulted in inhibiting its oxidase-like activity and decelerating the 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) chromogenic reaction. Moreover, S. aureus can be lysed to release the reductive bacterial contents, which can further inhibit the TMB chromogenic reaction. Based on this principle, SapYZUH5@Co3O4 + TMB reaction system was employed for detection with enhanced sensitivity of S. aureus, yielding an equation: A = - 0.092 Log (CSA) + 0.79 (R2 = 0.987), with an ultralow limit of detection (LOD) of 28 CFU mL-1. This system exhibited remarkable specificity and anti-interfere towards S. aureus, owing to the excellent affinity of SapYZUH5 towards S. aureus. In addition, S. aureus in the actual food samples was detected using this system, yielding recoveries ranging from 96.34 to 109.43%, demonstrating its exceptional accuracy. Hence, our proposed covalent immobilization of phage on the nanozyme can realize sensitive and specific colorimetric determination of S. aureus in food samples.

Abstract
The content of gallic acid (GA) is positively correlated with the quality grade of tea. Here, we developed a colorimetric method based on raspberry-like N-doped Mn3O4 nanospheres (N-Mn3O4 NSs) with oxidase-like activity for GA assay. Modulating the electronic structure of Mn3O4 by N doping could promote the catalysis ability, and the produced oxygen vacancies (OVs) can provide high surface energy and abundant active sites. The N-Mn3O4 NSs presented low Michaelis-Menten constant (Km) of 0.142 mM and maximum initial velocity (Vmax) of 9.8 × 10-6 M s-1. The sensor exhibited excellent analytical performance towards GA detection, including low LOD (0.028 μM) and promising linear range (5 ∼ 30 μM). It is attributed that OVs and O2- participated in TMB oxidation. Based on the reaction color changes, a visualized semi-quantitative GA detection could be realized via a smartphone-based system. It could be applied for evaluating GA quality in market-purchased black tea and green tea.

Abstract
A novel optical lactate biosensor is presented that utilizes a colorimetric interaction between H2O2 liberated by a binary enzymatic reaction and bis(neocuproine)copper(II) complex ([Cu(Nc)2]2+) known as CUPRAC (cupric reducing antioxidant capacity) reagent. In the first step, lactate oxidase (LOx) and pyruvate oxidase (POx) were separately immobilized on silanized magnetite nanoparticles (SiO2@Fe3O4 NPs), and thus, 2 mol of H2O2 was released per 1 mol of the substrate due to a sequential enzymatic reaction of the mixture of LOx-SiO2@Fe3O4 and POx-SiO2@Fe3O4 NPs with lactate and pyruvate, respectively. In the second step, the absorbance at 450 nm of the yellow-orange [Cu(Nc)2]+ complex formed through the color reaction of enzymatically produced H2O2 with [Cu(Nc)2]2+ was recorded. The results indicate that the developed colorimetric binary enzymatic biosensor exhibits a broad linear range of response between 0.5 and 50.0 µM for lactate under optimal conditions with a detection limit of 0.17 µM. The fabricated biosensor did not respond to other saccharides, while the positive interferences of certain reducing compounds such as dopamine, ascorbic acid, and uric acid were minimized through their oxidative removal with a pre-oxidant (NaBiO3) before enzymatic and colorimetric reactions. The fabricated optical biosensor was applied to various samples such as artificial blood, artificial/real sweat, and cow milk. The high recovery values (close to 100%) achieved for lactate-spiked samples indicate an acceptable accuracy of this colorimetric biosensor in the determination of lactate in real samples. Due to the increase in H2O2 production with the bienzymatic lactate sensor, the proposed method displays double-fold sensitivity relative to monoenzymatic biosensors and involves a neat color reaction with cupric-neocuproine having a clear stoichiometry as opposed to the rather indefinite stoichiometry of analogous redox dye methods.

Abstract
Liver function tests play a vital role in accurately diagnosing liver diseases, monitoring treatment outcomes, and assessing liver damage severity. Here, we introduce a novel approach to develop a smartphone-assisted portable colorimetric sensor for rapid detection of three liver function biomarkers: aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and alkaline phosphatase (ALP). This sensor is based on the inherent enzyme-like activities of hollow MnO2 (H-MnO2). The H-MnO2 is synthesized via a self-template sacrifice and in situ oxidation strategy, utilizing a manganese-based Prussian blue analogue (Mn-PBA) as a sacrificial template. The resulting H-MnO2 exhibits a polycrystalline structure with a large specific surface area. By encapsulating the H-MnO2 in sodium alginate, we construct a portable sensing platform facilitating specific and rapid colorimetric detection of the three liver function biomarkers with the assistance of a smartphone. The developed sensor demonstrates outstanding sensitivity and stability, achieving detection limits of 4.9 U L-1, 3.6 U L-1, and 0.99 U L-1 for AST, ALT, and ALP, respectively. Importantly, this work introduces an innovative in situ oxidation method for fabricating hollow nanozymes, offering a cost-effective and convenient assay for liver function biomarkers detection.

Abstract
Glutathione (GSH) is an important antioxidant and free radical scavenger that converts harmful toxins into harmless substances and excretes them out of the body. In this paper, 3D hierarchical flower-like nanozyme named MnO2/PS (polystyrene) was successfully prepared by template method for the first time. After the systematical studies, MnO2/PS nanozyme was evaluated to possess favorable oxidase activity and direct 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) catalytic ability in the near-neutral environment at room temperature. With the addition of different concentrations of GSH, oxidized TMB can be reduced to TMB with the whole process from blue to nearly colorless be observed by naked eyes. In addition, there is a good linear relationship in the range 1-50 μM and a detection limit of 0.08 μM. The method proposed can be successfully applied to the detection of reduced GSH in tablets and injections with good selectivity and high sensitivity. The analysis results exhibited good consistency with the results obtained by HPLC.
