"AND"-Logic gate-based colorimetric detection of thiocyanate in milk samples using AgNP-EBF as plasmonic nano sensor

At present, the uses of food additives globally are much of a concern due to their after effects upon consumption in higher proportions. Although different sensing strategies are available for their detection, a need for simple, rapid and cost-effective strategy is much of a concern. Herein, we developed a plasmonic nano sensor i.e., AgNP-EBF which was considered as the transducer component for the AND logic gate-based system with Cu²⁺ and thiocyanate as inputs. Optimization and detection of thiocyanates were performed through UV-visible colorimetric sensing procedures where the logic gate allowed the detection of thiocyanate in the range of 100 nM-1 µM with LOD of 53.60 nM within 5-10 min. The proposed system showed high selectivity towards the detection of thiocyanate rather than other interferences. To check the credibility of the proposed system, the logic gate was applied for detection of thiocyanates in real milk samples.

Synthesis of Copper Nanoclusters and Their Application for Environmental Pollutant Probes: A Review

Copper nanoclusters (CuNCs) as a new type of probe for environmental contaminants are gaining increasing attention because of its low cost, superior water dispersibility, wide availability and excellent optical properties. Compared with the other probes such as quantum dots and organic dyes, CuNCs show much more potential in practical application for their excellent photostability, large Stokes shift, low toxicity and other preponderance, especially in the fields of biosensing and environmental monitoring. Recently, the template-assisted synthesis of metal nanoclusters (MNCs) has been widely studied. A variety of templates such as proteins, small thiol molecules, polymers, and DNA with different spatial configuration have been used for the preparation of MNCs so far. This review primarily described recent advances in CuNCs in terms of the synthesis of CuNCs from different templates, the methods to improve the fluorescence (FL) properties of CuNCs, as well as the basic detection mechanisms based on the FL properties or catalytic properties. Finally, to promote the practical application of CuNCs probes, the challenges and prospects of CuNCs multifunctional probes are also discussed.

Recent advances in nanomaterials-based optical sensors for detection of various biomarkers (inorganic species, organic and biomolecules)

This review briefly emphasizes the different detection approaches (electrochemical sensors, chemiluminescence, surface-enhanced Raman scattering), functional nanostructure materials (quantum dots, metal nanoparticles, metal nanoclusters, magnetic nanomaterials, metal oxide nanoparticles, polymer-based nanomaterials, and carbonaceous nanomaterials) and detection mechanisms. Further, this review emphasis on the integration of functional nanomaterials with optical spectroscopic techniques for the identification of various biomarkers (nucleic acids, glucose, uric acid, oxytocin, dopamine, ascorbic acid, bilirubin, spermine, serotonin, thiocyanate, Pb²⁺ , Cu²⁺ , Hg²⁺ , F^- , peptides, and cancer biomarkers (mucin 1, prostate specific antigen, carcinoembryonic antigen, CA15-3, human epidermal growth factor receptor 2, C-reactive protein, and interleukin-6). Analytical characteristics of nanomaterials-based optical sensors are summarized in Tables, providing the insights of nanomaterials-based optical sensors for biomarkers detection. Finally, the opportunities and challenges of nanomaterials-based optical analytical approaches for the detection of various biomarkers (inorganic, organic, biomolecules, peptides and proteins) are discussed.
