Abstract
Printed circuit board (PCB) based biosensors have often utilized hard gold electroplating, that nullifies the cost advantages of this technology as compared to screen printed electrodes. Electroless nickel immersion gold (ENIG) is a popular gold deposition process widely used in PCB manufacturing, but vulnerable to pinhole defects and large surface roughness, which compromises biosensor performance. In this work, we present a method to address these challenges through electrodeposition of methylene blue (MB) to cover surface defects and improve electroactivity of ENIG PCB electrodes. We also demonstrate a process to realize in situ synthesis of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) using acid-functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) as scaffold, that are used to immobilize antibody for the target molecule (myeloperoxidase: MPO, early warning biomarker for cardiovascular diseases) through a modified cysteamine/gluteraldehyde based process. The processing steps on the electrode surface are developed in a manner that do not compromise the integrity of the electrode, resulting in repeatable and reliable performance of the sensors. Further, we demonstrate a cost-effective microfluidic packaging process to integrate a capillary pump driven microfluidic channel on the PCB electrode for seamless introduction of samples for testing. We demonstrate the ability of the sensor to distinguish clinically abnormal concentrations of MPO from normal concentrations through extensive characterization using spiked serum and blood plasma samples, with a limit of detection of 15.79 ng/mL.

Abstract
With the increasing population, food toxicity has become a prevalent concern due to the growing contaminants of food products. Therefore, the need for new materials for toxicant detection and food quality monitoring will always be in demand. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) based on luminescence and electrochemical sensors with tunable porosity and active surface area are promising materials for food contaminants monitoring. This review summarizes and studies the most recent progress on MOF sensors for detecting food contaminants such as pesticides, antibiotics, toxins, biomolecules, and ionic species. First, with the introduction of MOFs, food contaminants and materials for toxicants detection are discussed. Then the insights into the MOFs as emerging materials for sensing applications with luminescent and electrochemical properties, signal changes, and sensing mechanisms are discussed. Next, recent advances in luminescent and electrochemical MOFs food sensors and their sensitivity, selectivity, and capacities for common food toxicants are summarized. Further, the challenges and outlooks are discussed for providing a new pathway for MOF food contaminant detection tools. Overall, a timely source of information on advanced MOF materials provides materials for next-generation food sensors.

Abstract
A molecularly imprinted electrochemical sensor (MIECS) for trace determination of taurine was developed. The sensor was constructed by electropolymerizing dopamine and o-phenylenediamine as dual monomers on the surface of amino-functionalized iron-based MOFs and graphene composite-modified electrode. The porous structure and large specific surface area of amino-functionalized iron-based MOFs not only increase the number of imprinted sites, but also facilitate the binding of molecularly imprinted films. The presence of dual monomers can increase the binding sites during the formation of imprinted films. The linear range of this sensor for taurine detection is 1.00 × 10-14-1.00 × 10-8 mol L-1 with a determination limit of 3.20 × 10-15 mol L-1. The proposed MIECS was successfully applied to quantify the amount of taurine in human serum sample with good recovery values from 97.3 to 113%.

Abstract
Antioxidants are healthy substances that are beneficial to the human body and exist mainly in natural and synthetic forms. Among many kinds of antioxidants, the natural antioxidants have great applications in many fields such as food chemistry, medical care, and clinical application. In recent years, many efforts have been made for the determination of natural antioxidants. Nano-electrochemical sensors combining electrochemistry and nanotechnology have been widely used in the determination of natural antioxidants due to their unique advantages. Therefore, a large number of nanomaterials such as metal oxide, carbon materials, and conducting polymer have attracted much attention in the field of electrochemical sensors due to their good catalytic effect and stable performance. This review mainly introduces the construction of electrochemical sensors based on different nanomaterials, such as metallic nanomaterials, metal oxide nanomaterials, carbon nanomaterials, metal-organic frameworks, polymer nanomaterials, and other nanocomposites, and their application to the detection of natural antioxidants, including ascorbic acid, phenolic acids, flavonoid, tryptophan, citric acid, and other natural antioxidants. In the end, the limitations of the existing nano-sensing technology, the latest development trend, and the application prospect for various natural antioxidant substances are summarized and analyzed. We expect that this review will be helpful to researchers engaged in electrochemical sensors.

Abstract
Sulfites are used widely in food and beverage production to prevent browning or oxidation. However, the overingestion of sulfites is harmful to human health and may cause medical complications. Chinese herbal teas have been widely consumed for centuries. However, sulfite levels in Chinese herbal teas are rarely investigated and reported. Here, we present a simple, sensitive, and quantitative method to determine sulfites in Chinese herbal teas using ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) coupled with dispersive solid phase extraction. The method utilized a SeQuant ZIC-HILIC column for separation, and the optimal gradient eluents consisted of acetonitrile and aqueous solution with 0.1% acetic acid and 10 mM ammonium acetate. Porous chitosan/partially reduced graphene oxide/diatomite (CS/prGO/DM) composites were used as efficient dispersive solid phase extraction adsorbents for sample preparation. Several parameters were investigated during the extraction process, including sample-to-extraction solvent volume ratios, the extraction procedure and dosage of the adsorbent. Under the optimum conditions, the developed method gave a good determination coefficient (r2 > 0.99), low detection limits (0.51-12.1 μg kg-1) and high recoveries in the range of 83.8-102.7% at different spiked levels. The method has the great advantages of being time saving, good reproducibility and much lower detection limits when compared to titration methods. The method was further applied to analyze real herbal tea samples collected from the local market, demonstrating that our developed method is robust and useful for determining sulfites in practical application.

Abstract
Tea is a popular beverage all around the world. Tea composition, quality monitoring, and tea identification have all been the subject of extensive research due to concerns about the nutritional value and safety of tea intake. In the last 2 decades, research into tea employing electrochemical biosensing technologies has received a lot of interest. Despite the fact that electrochemical biosensing is not yet the most widely utilized approach for tea analysis, it has emerged as a promising technology due to its high sensitivity, speed, and low cost. Through bibliometric analysis, we give a systematic survey of the literature on electrochemical analysis of tea from 1994 to 2021 in this study. Electrochemical analysis in the study of tea can be split into three distinct stages, according to the bibliometric analysis. After chromatographic separation of materials, electrochemical techniques were initially used only as a detection tool. Many key components of tea, including as tea polyphenols, gallic acid, caffeic acid, and others, have electrochemical activity, and their electrochemical behavior is being investigated. High-performance electrochemical sensors have steadily become a hot research issue as materials science, particularly nanomaterials, and has progressed. This review not only highlights these processes, but also analyzes and contrasts the relevant literature. This evaluation also provides future views in this area based on the bibliometric findings.
