Abstract
Integration of oxygen vacancies (Vo) into nanostructured semiconductor-based photocatalysts has been recognized as a promising strategy for enhancing the performance of photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting. However, precisely controlling the Vo concentration in photocatalysts via an effective and tunable approach remains challenging. Herein, a series of optimized bismuth tungstate (Bi2WO6) nanosheet-based photoanodes with varying concentrations of Vo were prepared by a sonochemical method with in situ cavitation detection, which enables accurate manipulation of the acoustic cavitation intensity applied to the surface of Bi2WO6 photoanodes in alkaline solution. Based on the analysis of the Vo concentration and sound field characteristics, the mechanism of sonochemical regulation of Vo in Bi2WO6 nanosheets was interpreted. Specifically, the increase in Vo concentration can be attributed to the enhancement of Bi-O bond dissociation. This enhancement is influenced not only by the intensified impact of shear force and the generation of active radicals by transient cavitation, but also by the accelerated diffusion of the reactant, a result of stable cavitation. By optimizing the transient and stable cavitation intensity, a Vo-rich Bi2WO6 photoanode was obtained without altering the microstructure of Bi2WO6 nanosheets. The presence of high concentration Vo facilitates the interfacial chemical reactivity and the transmission of photogenerated carriers, leading to the drastic promotion of the PEC water splitting performance. The transient photocurrent density of the Vo-rich Bi2WO6 photoanode reaches 69.2 μA cm-2 (1.23 V vs. RHE), 7.86 times that of the untreated Bi2WO6 photoanode. Additionally, the charge injection efficiency increases to 35.4%. This work provides a controllable and effective method for defect engineering of nanostructured semiconductor-based electrodes.

Abstract
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are a significant class of porous, crystalline materials composed of metal ions (clusters) and organic ligands. The potential use of copper MOF (Cu-BTC) for the sonophotocatalytic degradation of Tetracycline (TC) antibiotic was investigated in this study. To enhance its catalytic efficiency, S-scheme heterojunction was created by combining Cu-BTC with Zinc tungstate (ZnWO4), employing an ultrasound-assisted hydrothermal method. The results demonstrated that the Cu-BTC/ZnWO4 heterojunction exhibited complete removal of TC within 60 min under simultaneous irradiation of visible light and ultrasound. Interestingly, the sonophotocatalytic degradation of TC using the Cu-BTC/ZnWO4 heterojunction showed superior efficiency (with a synergy index of ∼0.70) compared to individual sonocatalytic and photocatalytic degradation processes using the same heterojunction. This enhancement in sonophotocatalytic activity can be attributed to the formation of an S-scheme heterojunction between Cu-BTC and ZnWO4. Within this heterojunction, electrons migrated from Cu-BTC to ZnWO4, facilitated by the interface between the two materials. Under visible light irradiation, the built-in electric field, band edge bending, and coulomb interaction synergistically inhibited the recombination of electron-hole pairs. Consequently, the accumulated electrons in Cu-BTC and holes in ZnWO4 actively participated in the redox reactions, generating free radicals that effectively attacked the TC molecules. This study offers valuable perspectives on the application of a newly developed S-scheme heterojunction photocatalyst, demonstrating its effectiveness in efficiently eliminating diverse recalcitrant pollutants via sonophotocatalytic degradation.

Abstract
The interaction between CeO2-GO or CeO2-rGO and gold as co-catalysts were here investigated for solar H2 production by photoreforming of glycerol. The materials were prepared by a solar photoreduction/deposition method, where in addition to the activation of CeO2 the excited electrons were able to reduce the gold precursor to metallic gold and the GO into rGO. The presence of gold was fundamental to boost the H2 production, whereas the GO or the rGO extended the visible-light activity of cerium oxide (as confirmed by UV-DRS). Furthermore, the strong interaction between CeO2 and Au (verified by XPS and TEM) led to good stability of the CeO2-rGO-Au sample with the evolved H2 that increased during five consecutive runs of glycerol photoreforming. This catalytic behaviour was ascribed to the progressive reduction of GO into rGO, as shown by Raman measurements of the photocatalytic runs. The good charge carrier separation obtained with the CeO2-rGO-Au system allowed the simultaneous production of H2 and reduction of GO in the course of the photoreforming reaction. These peculiar features exhibited by these unconventional photocatalysts are promising to propose new solar-light-driven photocatalysts for green hydrogen production.

Abstract
Micron-sized supports of catalytically active nanoparticles (NPs) can become a good alternative to nanocarriers if their structure is properly tuned. Here, we show that a combination of simple and easily scalable methods, such as defect engineering and polyol synthesis, makes it possible to obtain Ag and MgO nanoparticles supported on defective hexagonal BN (h-BN) support with high catalytic activity in the CO oxidation reaction. High-temperature annealing in air of Mg-containing (<0.2 at.%) h-BN micropellets led to surface oxidation, the formation of hexagonal-shaped surface defects, and defect-related MgO NPs. The enhanced catalytic activity of Ag/MgO/h-BN materials is attributed to the synergistic effect of h-BN surface defects, ultrafine Ag and MgO NPs anchored at the defect edges, and MgO/Ag heterostructures. In addition, theoretical simulations show a shift in the electron density from metallic Ag towards MgO and the associated decrease in the negative charge of oxygen adsorbed on the Ag surface, which positively affects the catalytic activity of the Ag/MgO/h-BN material.

Abstract
Regulating the transfer pathway of charge carriers in heterostructure photocatalysts is of great importance for selective CO2 photoreduction. Herein, the charge transfer pathway and in turn the redox potential succeeded to regulate in 2D MoS2 /1D TiO2 heterostructure by varying the light wavelength range. Several in situ measurements and experiments confirm that charge transfer follows either an S-scheme mechanism under simulated solar irradiation or a heterojunction approach under visible light illumination, elucidating the switchable property of the MoS2 /TiO2 heterostructure. Replacing the simulated sunlight irradiation with the visible light illumination switches the photocatalytic CO2 reduction product from CO to CH4. 13 CO2 isotope labeling confirms that CO2 is the source of carbon for CH4 and CO products. The photoelectrochemical H2 generation further supports the switching property of MoS2 /TiO2 . Unlike previous studies, density functional theory calculations are used to investigate the band structure of Van der Waals MoS2 /TiO2 S scheme after contact, allowing to propose accurate charge transfer pathways, in which the theoretical results are well matched with the experimental results. This work opens the opportunity to develop photocatalysts with switchable charge transport and tunable redox potential for selective artificial photosynthesis.

Abstract
The hydrothermal dissolution-recrystallization process is a key step in the crystal structure of titania-based nanotubes and their composition. This work systematically studies the hydrothermal conditions for directly synthesizing anatase TiO2 nanotubes (ATNTs), which have not been deeply discussed elsewhere. It has been well-known that ATNTs can be synthesized by the calcination of titanate nanotubes. Herein, we found the ATNTs can be directly synthesized by optimizing the reaction temperature and time rather than calcination of titanate nanotubes, where at each temperature, there is a range of reaction times in which ATNTs can be prepared. The effect of NaOH/TiO2 ratio and starting materials was explored, and it was found that ATNTs can be prepared only if the precursor is anatase TiO2, using rutile TiO2 leads to forming titanate nanotubes. As a result, ATNTs produced directly without calcination have excellent photocatalytic CO2 reduction than titanate nanotubes and ATNTs prepared by titanate calcination.

Abstract
The current developments and progress in energy and environment-related areas pay special attention to the fabrication of advanced nanomaterials via green and sustainable paths to accomplish chemical circularity. The design and preparation methods of photocatalysts play a prime role in determining the structural, surface characteristics and optoelectronic properties of the final products. The solution combustion synthesis (SCS) technique is a relatively novel, cost-effective, and efficient method for the bulk production of nanostructured materials. SCS-fabricated metal oxides are of great technological importance in photocatalytic, environmental and energy applications. To date, the SCS route has been employed to produce a large variety of solid materials such as metals, sulfides, carbides, nitrides and single or complex metal oxides. This review intends to provide a holistic perspective of the different steps involved in the chemistry of SCS of advanced photocatalysts, and pursues several SCS metrics that influence their photocatalytic performances to establish a feasible approach to design advanced photocatalysts. The study highlights the fundamentals of SCS and the importance of various combustion parameters in the characteristics of the fabricated photocatalysts. Consequently, this work deals with the design of a concise framework to link the fine adjustment of SCS parameters for the development of efficient metal oxide photocatalysts for energy and environmental applications.
