Abstract
Background Myotonic dystrophy type 1 (DM1) is a devastating multisystemic disorder caused by a CTG repeat expansion in the DMPK gene, which subsequently triggers toxic RNA expression and dysregulated splicing. In a preclinical study, we demonstrated that erythromycin reduces the toxicity of abnormal RNA and ameliorates the aberrant splicing and motor phenotype in DM1 model mice. Methods This multicentre, randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled, phase 2 trial was conducted at three centres in Japan to translate preclinical findings into practical applications in patients with DM1 by evaluating the safety and efficacy of erythromycin. Between Nov 29, 2019, and Jan 20, 2022, a total of 30 adult patients with DM1 were enrolled and randomly assigned in a 1:2:2 ratio to receive either placebo or erythromycin at two daily doses (500 mg or 800 mg) for 24 weeks. The primary outcome included the safety and tolerability of erythromycin. The secondary efficacy measures included splicing biomarkers, 6-min walk test results, muscle strength, and serum creatinine kinase (CK) values. This trial is registered with the Japan Registry of Clinical Trials, jRCT2051190069. Findings Treatment-related gastrointestinal symptoms occurred more frequently in the erythromycin group, but all adverse events were mild to moderate and resolved spontaneously. No serious safety concerns were identified. The CK levels from baseline to week 24 decreased in the overall erythromycin group compared with the placebo group (mean change of -6.4 U/L [SD 149] vs +182.8 [SD 228]), although this difference was not statistically significant (p = 0.070). Statistically significant improvements in the overall erythromycin treated groups compared to placebo were seen for two of the eleven splicing biomarkers that were each evaluated in half of the trial sample. These were MBNL1 (p = 0.048) and CACNA1S (p = 0.042). Interpretation Erythromycin demonstrated favourable safety and tolerability profiles in patients with DM1. A well-powered phase 3 trial is needed to evaluate efficacy, building on the preliminary findings from this study. Funding Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development.

Abstract
A male patient in his 30s, with myotonic dystrophy (DM), presented to the emergency department with abdominal pain and vomiting. CT imaging revealed a soft tissue lesion in the terminal ileum causing small bowel obstruction (SBO). The patient underwent diagnostic laparoscopy which allowed identification and removal of the obstructing lesion. This was in the form of an intact, undigested potato, a phytobezoar. Bezoars are collections of undigested material found in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, a phytobezoar is composed of plant material and is the most common form of bezoar. DM is a multisystem disorder characterised by skeletal muscle weakness, however it often presents with GI symptoms and the muscles of mastication are often affected. DM is a known risk factor for bezoar formation and should be considered as an important differential in DM patients presenting with SBO.

Abstract
Intestinal motility disorders represent a frequent problem in children with neurological impairment. These conditions are characterized by abnormal movements of the gut, which can result in symptoms such as constipation, diarrhea, reflux, and vomiting. The underlying mechanisms leading to dysmotility are various, and the clinical manifestations are often nonspecific. Nutritional management is an important aspect of care for children with gut dysmotility, as it can help to improve their quality of life. Oral feeding, when safe and in the absence of risk of ingestion or severe dysphagia, should always be encouraged. When oral nutrition is insufficient or potentially harmful, it is necessary to switch to an enteral by tube or parenteral nutrition before the onset of malnutrition. In most cases, children with severe gut dysmotility may require feeding via a permanent gastrostomy tube to ensure adequate nutrition and hydration. Drugs may be necessary to help manage gut dysmotility, such as laxatives, anticholinergics and prokinetic agents. Nutritional management of patients with neurological impairment often requires an individualized care plan to optimize growth and nutrition and to improve overall health outcomes. This review tries to sum up most significant neurogenetic and neurometabolic disorders associated with gut dysmotility that may require a specific multidisciplinary care, identifying a proposal of nutritional and medical management.

Abstract
Myotonic dystrophy (DM) is a highly variable, multisystemic disorder that clinically affects one in 8000 individuals. While research has predominantly focused on the symptoms and pathological mechanisms affecting striated muscle and brain, DM patient surveys have identified a high prevalence for gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms amongst affected individuals. Clinical studies have identified chronic and progressive dysfunction of the esophagus, stomach, liver and gallbladder, small and large intestine, and rectum and anal sphincters. Despite the high incidence of GI dysmotility in DM, little is known regarding the pathological mechanisms leading to GI dysfunction. In this review, we summarize results from clinical and molecular analyses of GI dysfunction in both genetic forms of DM, DM type 1 (DM1) and DM type 2 (DM2). Based on current knowledge of DM primary pathological mechanisms in other affected tissues and GI tissue studies, we suggest that misregulation of alternative splicing in smooth muscle resulting from the dysregulation of RNA binding proteins muscleblind-like and CUGBP-elav-like is likely to contribute to GI dysfunction in DM. We propose that a combinatorial approach using clinical and molecular analysis of DM GI tissues and model organisms that recapitulate DM GI manifestations will provide important insight into defects impacting DM GI motility.

Abstract
Gastrointestinal (GI) dysfunction is an important, yet understudied condition associated with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), with patients reporting bloating, diarrhea, and general discomfort, contributing to a reduced quality of life. In the mdx mouse, the most commonly used mouse model of DMD, studies have confirmed GI dysfunction (reported as altered contractility and GI transit through the small and large intestine), associated with increased local and systemic inflammation. Sulforaphane (SFN) is a natural isothiocyanate with anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative properties via its activation of Nrf2 signalling that has been shown to improve aspects of the skeletal muscle pathology in dystrophic mice. Whether SFN can similarly improve GI function in muscular dystrophy was unknown. Video imaging and spatiotemporal mapping to assess gastrointestinal contractions in isolated colon preparations from mdx and C57BL/10 mice revealed that SFN reduced contraction frequency when administered ex vivo, demonstrating its therapeutic potential to improve GI function in DMD. To confirm this in vivo, four-week-old male C57BL/10 and mdx mice received vehicle (2% DMSO/corn oil) or SFN (2 mg/kg in 2% DMSO/corn oil) via daily oral gavage five days/week for 4 weeks. SFN administration reduced fibrosis in the diaphragm of mdx mice but did not affect other pathological markers. Gene and protein analysis revealed no change in Nrf2 protein expression or activation of Nrf2 signalling after SFN administration and oral SFN supplementation did not improve GI function in mdx mice. Although ex vivo studies demonstrate SFN’s therapeutic potential for reducing colon contractions, in vivo studies should investigate higher doses and/or alternate routes of administration to confirm SFN’s potential to improve GI function in DMD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Gastroparesis is a condition characterized by epigastric symptoms and delayed gastric emptying (GE) rate in the absence of any mechanical obstruction. The condition is challenging in clinical practice by the lack of guidance concerning diagnosis and management of gastroparesis. METHODS A Delphi consensus was undertaken by 40 experts from 19 European countries who conducted a literature summary and voting process on 89 statements. Quality of evidence was evaluated using grading of recommendations assessment, development, and evaluation criteria. Consensus (defined as ≥80% agreement) was reached for 25 statements. RESULTS The European consensus defined gastroparesis as the presence of symptoms associated with delayed GE in the absence of mechanical obstruction. Nausea and vomiting were identified as cardinal symptoms, with often coexisting postprandial distress syndrome symptoms of dyspepsia. The true epidemiology of gastroparesis is not known in detail, but diabetes, gastric surgery, certain neurological and connective tissue diseases, and the use of certain drugs recognized as risk factors. While the panel agreed that severely impaired gastric motor function is present in these patients, there was no consensus on underlying pathophysiology. The panel agreed that an upper endoscopy and a GE test are required for diagnosis. Only dietary therapy, dopamine-2 antagonists and 5-HT4 receptor agonists were considered appropriate therapies, in addition to nutritional support in case of severe weight loss. No consensus was reached on the use of proton pump inhibitors, other classes of antiemetics or prokinetics, neuromodulators, complimentary, psychological, or more invasive therapies. Finally, there was consensus that gastroparesis adversely impacts on quality of life and healthcare costs and that the long-term prognosis of gastroparesis depends on the cause. CONCLUSIONS AND INFERENCES A multinational group of European experts summarized the current state of consensus on definition, symptom characteristics, pathophysiology, diagnosis, and management of gastroparesis.

Abstract
Background/Aims Patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy exhibit significant, ongoing impairments in gastrointestinal (GI) function likely resulting from dysregulated nitric oxide production. Compounds increasing neuronal nitric oxide synthase expression and/or activity could improve GI dysfunction and enhance quality of life for dystrophic patients. We used video imaging and spatiotemporal mapping to identify GI dysfunction in mdx dystrophic mice and determine whether dietary intervention to enhance nitric oxide could alleviate aberrant colonic activity in muscular dystrophy. Methods Four-week-old male C57BL/10 and mdx mice received a specialized diet either with no supplementation (control) or supplemented (1 g/kg/day) with L-alanine, L-arginine, or L-citrulline for 8 weeks. At the conclusion of treatment, mice were sacrificed by cervical dislocation and colon motility examined by spatiotemporal (ST) mapping ex vivo. Results ST mapping identified increased contraction number in the mid and distal colon of mdx mice on control and L-alanine supplemented diets relative to C57BL/10 mice (P < 0.05). Administration of either L-arginine or L-citrulline attenuated contraction number in distal colons of mdx mice relative to C57BL/10 mice. Conclusions GI dysfunction in Duchenne muscular dystrophy has been sadly neglected as an issue affecting quality of life. ST mapping identified regional GI dysfunction in the mdx dystrophic mouse. Dietary interventions to increase nitric oxide signaling in the GI tract reduced the number of colonic contractions and alleviated colonic constriction at rest. These findings in mdx mice reveal that L-arginine can improve colonic motility and has potential therapeutic relevance for alleviating GI discomfort, improving clinical care, and enhancing quality of life in Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Abstract
ObjectiveTo genotypically and phenotypically characterize a large pediatric myotonic dystrophy type 1 (DM1) cohort to provide a solid frame of data for future evidence-based health management.MethodsAmong the 2,697 patients with genetically confirmed DM1 included in the French DM-Scope registry, children were enrolled between January 2010 and February 2016 from 24 centers. Comprehensive cross-sectional analysis of most relevant qualitative and quantitative variables was performed.ResultsWe studied 314 children (52% females, with 55% congenital, 31% infantile, 14% juvenile form). The age at inclusion was inversely correlated with the CTG repeat length. The paternal transmission rate was higher than expected, especially in the congenital form (13%). A continuum of highly prevalent neurodevelopmental alterations was observed, including cognitive slowing (83%), attention deficit (64%), written language (64%), and spoken language (63%) disorders. Five percent exhibited autism spectrum disorders. Overall, musculoskeletal impairment was mild. Despite low prevalence, cardiorespiratory impairment could be life-threatening, and frequently occurred early in the first decade (25.9%). Gastrointestinal symptoms (27%) and cataracts (7%) were more frequent than expected, while endocrine or metabolic disorders were scarce.ConclusionsThe pedDM-Scope study details the main genotype and phenotype characteristics of the 3 DM1 pediatric subgroups. It highlights striking profiles that could be useful in health care management (including transition into adulthood) and health policy planning.

Abstract
Chronic intestinal pseudo-obstruction is a rare disorder that affects the motility of the gastrointestinal tract. It results in acute or subacute intestinal obstruction symptoms in the absence of mechanical lesion. It can lead to intestinal failure in children with significant strain on nutrition, growth, and development. There is no universally agreed protocol for management of chronic intestinal pseudo-obstruction in children, and there is wide variation in clinical practice.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Myotonic dystrophy type 1 (DM1) is caused by the expansion of a CTG repeat in the 3' untranslated region of DMPK. The transcripts containing an expanded CUG repeat (CUG (exp)) result in a toxic gain-of-function by forming ribonuclear foci that sequester the alternative splicing factor muscleblind-like 1 (MBNL1). Although several small molecules reportedly ameliorate RNA toxicity, none are ready for clinical use because of the lack of safety data. Here, we undertook a drug-repositioning screen to identify a safe and effective small molecule for upcoming clinical trials of DM1. METHODS We examined the potency of small molecules in inhibiting the interaction between CUG (exp) and MBNL1 by in vitro sequestration and fluorescent titration assays. We studied the effect of lead compounds in DM1 model cells by evaluating foci reduction and splicing rescue. We also tested their effects on missplicing and myotonia in DM1 model mice. RESULTS Of the 20 FDA-approved small molecules tested, erythromycin showed the highest affinity to CUG (exp) and a capacity to inhibit its binding to MBNL1. Erythromycin decreased foci formation and rescued missplicing in DM1 cell models. Both systemic and oral administration of erythromycin in the DM1 model mice showed splicing reversal and improvement of myotonia with no toxicity. Long-term oral administration of erythromycin at the dose used in humans also improved the splicing abnormality in the DM1 model mice. INTERPRETATION Oral erythromycin treatment, which has been widely used in humans with excellent tolerability, may be a promising therapy for DM1.

Abstract
Myotonic dystrophy type 1 (DM1) is multisystem disease arising from mutant CTG expansion in the non-translating region of the dystrophia myotonica protein kinase gene. While DM1 is the most common adult muscular dystrophy, with a worldwide prevalence of one in eight thousand, age of onset varies from before birth to adulthood. There is a broad spectrum of clinical severity, ranging from mild to severe, which correlates with number of DNA repeats. Importantly, the early clinical manifestations and management in congenital and childhood DM1 differ from classic adult DM1. In neonates and children, DM1 predominantly affects muscle strength, cognition, respiratory, central nervous and gastrointestinal systems. Sleep disorders are often under recognised yet a significant morbidity. No effective disease modifying treatment is currently available and neonates and children with DM1 may experience severe physical and intellectual disability, which may be life limiting in the most severe forms. Management is currently supportive, incorporating regular surveillance and treatment of manifestations. Novel therapies, which target the gene and the pathogenic mechanism of abnormal splicing are emerging. Genetic counselling is critical in this autosomal dominant genetic disease with variable penetrance and potential maternal anticipation, as is assisting with family planning and undertaking cascade testing to instigate health surveillance in affected family members. This review incorporates discussion of the clinical manifestations and management of congenital and childhood DM1, with a particular focus on hypersomnolence and sleep disorders. In addition, the molecular genetics, mechanisms of disease pathogenesis and development of novel treatment strategies in DM1 will be summarised.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW Myotonic dystrophies type 1 and type 2 are progressive multisystem genetic disorders with clinical and genetic features in common. Myotonic dystrophy type 1 is the most prevalent muscular dystrophy in adults and has a wide phenotypic spectrum. The average age of death in myotonic dystrophy type 1 is in the fifth decade. In comparison, myotonic dystrophy type 2 tends to cause a milder phenotype with later onset of symptoms and is less common than myotonic dystrophy type 1. Historically, patients with myotonic dystrophy type 1 have not received the medical and social input they need to maximize their quality and quantity of life. This review describes the improved understanding in the molecular and clinical features of myotonic dystrophy type 1 as well as the screening of clinical complications and their management. We will also discuss new potential genetic treatments. RECENT FINDINGS An active approach to screening and management of myotonic dystrophies type 1 and type 2 requires a multidisciplinary medical, rehabilitative and social team. This process will probably improve morbidity and mortality for patients. Genetic treatments have been successfully used in in-vitro and animal models to reverse the physiological, histopathological and transcriptomic features. SUMMARY Molecular therapeutics for myotonic dystrophy will probably bridge the translational gap between bench and bedside in the near future. There will still be a requirement for clinical screening of patients with myotonic dystrophy with proactive and systematic management of complications.

Abstract
Although many surgical procedures originally associated with gastroparesis are less commonly performed nowadays, several more recently developed upper abdominal procedures may be complicated by the development of gastroparesis. Gastroparesis has been described in association with neurologic disorders ranging from Parkinson disease to muscular dystrophy, and its presence may have important implications for patient management and prognosis. Although scleroderma is most frequently linked with gastrointestinal motility disorder, gastroparesis has been linked to several other connective tissue disorders. The management of these patients presents several challenges, and is best conducted in the context of a dedicated and skilled multidisciplinary team.

Abstract
Myotonic Dystrophy (DM) is a progressive multi-systemic disorder characterized by myotonia and muscle weakness where currently no effective treatment or cure to prevent or delay the disorder exists. This study used mixed methods to examine the experience of living with DM, in patients and their close relatives. Thirteen patients and eight next of kin responded completing Quality of Life and Psychological distress questionnaires in this cross-sectional study, and participating in a semi-structured interview. The findings indicate a higher level of anxiety and hopelessness in next of kin compared to patients, while patients were more depressed. Next of kin reported higher physical, but lower emotional quality of life than patients. Qualitative interviews confirmed the questionnaire findings. The findings from this study may be helpful in genetic counseling. Genetic counselors and geneticists should not only be aware of the burden of being a next of kin, but include discussions about opportunities to minimize the burden in families affected with DM. The findings may be of relevance in counseling for other types of neuromuscular disorders.

Abstract
Gastrointestinal symptoms are frequent complaints in patients with myotonic dystrophy type 1 (MyD1) and may be associated with reduced gastrointestinal motility caused by smooth muscle dysfunction. Although previous studies have found delayed gastric emptying (GE) in MyD1 patients, the relationship between GE and symptoms has been unclear. We investigated GE in 23 MyD1 patients and 20 healthy volunteers using the 13C-acetate breath test. The MyD1 patients were divided into two groups: those with gastrointestinal symptoms (n = 9) and those without gastrointestinal symptoms (n = 14). The GE function was estimated using the 13C-acetate breath test as half-emptying time (HET) and peak time of the 13C-%-dose-excess curve (T max). GE (HET and T max) was more significantly delayed in patients with MyD1 than in the controls. The GE in MyD1 patients with gastrointestinal symptoms was significantly delayed compared to those without gastrointestinal symptoms. The GE in MyD1 patients with gastrointestinal symptoms was more significantly delayed than in the controls. The GE was significantly delayed in MyD1 patients with gastrointestinal symptoms for >5 years as compared to those with the disease for <5 years, while GE of MyD1 patients without gastrointestinal symptoms did not correlate with the duration of the disease. The GE in MyD1 patients did not correlate with the muscular disability rating scale. These findings suggest that impairment of GE evolves over time and that the progression of delayed GE and skeletal muscle impairment are independent. Smooth muscle impairment may be affected at an earlier stage in MyD1.

Abstract
Gastrointestinal symptoms are common in the patient with chronic neurologic disease and may loom large in terms of impact on quality of life and on nutrition and mobility. A knowledge of the range of gastrointestinal disorders associated with a given neurologic disease, together with an understanding of the risks and benefits of various therapeutic options and approaches, should aid gastroenterologists in their efforts to contribute to the care of these patients. In most instances a multidisciplinary team (neurologist/neurosurgeon, gastroenterologist, nutritionist, therapist, specialist nurse) aware of the wishes and needs of the family and their carers and mindful of the nature and the natural history of the underlying disease process are best placed to assess and manage these problems.

Abstract
Myotonic dystrophies (dystrophia myotonica, or DM) are inherited disorders characterized by myotonia and progressive muscle degeneration, which are variably associated with a multisystemic phenotype. To date, two types of myotonic dystrophy, type 1 (DM1) and type 2 (DM2), are known to exist; both are autosomal dominant disorders caused by expansion of an untranslated short tandem repeat DNA sequence (CTG)(n) and (CCTG)(n), respectively. These expanded repeats in DM1 and DM2 show different patterns of repeat-size instability. Phenotypes of DM1 and DM2 are similar but there are some important differences, most conspicuously in the severity of the disease (including the presence or absence of the congenital form), muscles primarily affected (distal versus proximal), involved muscle fiber types (type 1 versus type 2 fibers), and some associated multisystemic phenotypes. The pathogenic mechanism of DM1 and DM2 is thought to be mediated by the mutant RNA transcripts containing expanded CUG and CCUG repeats. Strong evidence supports the hypothesis that sequestration of muscle-blind like (MBNL) proteins by these expanded repeats leads to misregulated splicing of many gene transcripts in corroboration with the raised level of CUG-binding protein 1. However, additional mechanisms, such as changes in the chromatin structure involving CTCN-binding site and gene expression dysregulations, are emerging. Although treatment of DM1 and DM2 is currently limited to supportive therapies, new therapeutic approaches based on pathogenic mechanisms may become feasible in the near future.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Myotonic dystrophies are autosomal dominant neuromuscular diseases. Among them, myotonic dystrophy type 1 (MD1), or Steinert disease, is the most common in adults, and besides muscular involvement it also has important systemic manifestations. Myotonic dystrophy type 1 poses a challenge to the anesthesiologist. Those patients are more sensitive to anesthetics and prone to cardiac and pulmonary complications. Besides, the possibility of developing malignant hyperthermia and myotonic episodes is also present. CASE REPORT This is a 39-year old patient with DM1 who underwent general anesthesia for videolaparoscopic cholecystectomy. Total intravenous anesthesia with propofol, remifentanil, and rocuronium was the technique chosen. Intercurrences were not observed in the 90-minute surgical procedure, but after extubation, the patient developed respiratory failure and myotonia, which made tracheal intubation impossible. A laryngeal mask was used, allowing adequate oxygenation, and mechanical ventilation was maintained until full recovery of the respiratory function. The patient did not develop further complications. CONCLUSIONS Myotonic dystrophy type 1 presents several particularities to the anesthesiologist. Detailed knowledge of its systemic involvement along with the differentiated action of anesthetic drugs in those patients will provide safer anesthetic-surgical procedure.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The objective of this study was to assess the maternal and prenatal ultrasound findings and outcome in pregnancies complicated by congenital myotonic dystrophy Type 1 (DM1). METHODS A retrospective chart review of all patients with a diagnosis of DM1 and pregnancy presenting to the Oxford Radcliffe Hospital between 1990 and 2004 was undertaken. Obstetric case notes were reviewed and details of all pregnancies obtained. This included data on prenatal diagnostic tests and obstetric ultrasound scans performed as well as pregnancy complications and pregnancy outcome. Maternal and fetal CTG expansion size was also recorded where available. Maternal genetic case notes were reviewed for details of maternal grip myotonia. RESULTS Sixty pregnancies among 26 couples in which one of the parents was a carrier of DM1 were identified during the study period. These resulted in 36 (60%) pregnancies affected by congenital DM1 and 19 (31.7%) unaffected pregnancies. There were four miscarriages and one termination of pregnancy for non-medical reasons. Nineteen of the 36 affected pregnancies ended in termination following the antenatal diagnosis of congenital DM1 by either chorionic villus sampling (CVS) or amniocentesis. In the remaining 17 affected pregnancies (16 singleton and one twin) there was one miscarriage of an affected fetus with co-existing Down syndrome and eight perinatal deaths. The principal cause of perinatal death was respiratory failure in the early neonatal period. Antenatally noted clinical/sonographic abnormalities in these pregnancies included polyhydramnios (100%), talipes (26.6%) and borderline ventriculomegaly (13.3%). Uni- or bilateral talipes was noted at delivery in 10 of 16 (62.5%) neonates. Maternal grip myotonia was present in all but one of these cases. CONCLUSION The antenatal findings of polyhydramnios and talipes should prompt a search for maternal grip myotonia. If present, definitive testing for congenital DM1 should be considered.

Abstract
Myotonic dystrophy (MD) is characterized by myotonic phenomena and progressive muscular weakness. Involvement of the gastrointestinal tract is frequent and may occur at any level. The clinical manifestations have previously been attributed to motility disorders caused by smooth muscle damage, but histologic evidence of alterations has been scarce and conflicting. A neural factor has also been hypothesized. In the upper digestive tract, dysphagia, heartburn, regurgitation and dyspepsia are the most common complaints, while in the lower tract, abdominal pain, bloating and changes in bowel habits are often reported. Digestive symptoms may be the first sign of dystrophic disease and may precede the musculo-skeletal features. The impairment of gastrointestinal function may be sometimes so gradual that the patients adapt to it with little awareness of symptoms. In such cases routine endoscopic and ultrasonographic evaluations are not sufficient and targeted techniques (electrogastrography, manometry, electromyography, functional ultrasonography, scintigraphy, etc.) are needed. There is a low correlation between the degree of skeletal muscle involvement and the presence and severity of gastrointestinal disturbances whereas a positive correlation with the duration of the skeletal muscle disease has been reported. The drugs recommended for treating the gastrointestinal complaints such as prokinetic, anti-dyspeptic drugs and laxatives, are mainly aimed at correcting the motility disorders. Gastrointestinal involvement in MD remains a complex and intriguing condition since many important problems are still unsolved. Further studies concentrating on genetic aspects, early diagnostic techniques and the development of new therapeutic strategies are needed to improve our management of the gastrointestinal manifestations of MD.
