Abstract
Although infections resulting from cosmetic surgery performed outside the United States have been regularly reported, deaths have rarely been identified. During 2009-2022, 93 U.S. citizens died after receiving cosmetic surgery in the Dominican Republic. The number of deaths increased from a mean of 4.1 per year during 2009-2018 to a mean of 13.0 during 2019-2022 with a peak in of 17 in 2020. A subset of post-cosmetic surgery deaths occurring during peak years was investigated, and most deaths were found to be the result of embolic events (fat emboli or venous thromboembolism) for which a high proportion of the patients who died had risk factors, including obesity and having multiple procedures performed during the same operation. These risk factors might have been mitigated or prevented with improved surgical protocols and postoperative medical care, including prophylactic measures against venous thromboembolism. U.S. citizens interested in receiving elective cosmetic surgery outside the United States should consult with their health care professionals regarding their risk for adverse outcomes. Public health authorities can support provider education on the importance of preoperative patient evaluation and the potential danger of performing multiple cosmetic procedures in one operation.

Abstract
There have been various studies and literature reviews about gluteal augmentation, possibly due to the high complication rates associated with the procedure. But in the recent past, there has been extensive work in an effort to reduce the complications and various different methods have been developed for this purpose. This article brings to view the procedure followed in our surgery centre for fat grafting and implants for gluteal augmentation. We have compiled the complications we encountered with these procedures and the lessons we learnt to prevent them. Abstract
Gluteal contouring has been subject to numerous publications in aesthetic plastic surgery. Not only the female but also the male features that govern such procedures have been thoroughly described by different authors. In this article, we will provide the reader with an updated account of how gluteal contouring blends with High Definition Liposculpture (HDL). We discuss the most current techniques for buttocks reshaping through a holistic approach of new anatomical and artistic concepts. We will dive into new techniques to perform multiplanar and 4-dimensional Fat Grafting and equalization of the buttocks and surrounding areas, which we believe might help plastic surgeons to improve the quality of their patient outcomes. In effect, a proper understanding of the anatomical structures and its variations among different gender and ethnicities, will both help the surgeon to individualize the procedure based on patient preferences.

Abstract
Gluteal augmentation has become a popular esthetic procedure since its inception. The main methods are augmentation using implants or autologous fat grafting, which is the harvesting and grafting of patients' own fat tissue. The last review comparing the safety of these methods was written 7 years ago, which warrants the writing of a new one. PubMed, Cochrane, and Medline were searched for studies focusing on the methods of gluteal augmentation listed previously. Five search terms were used and 15 studies fulfilled the criteria. The data were cataloged according to the method described and outcomes compared. Seven articles focused on gluteal implants and another seven assessed autologous fat grafting, whereas one detailed both. The most common complications in 524 implant procedures were wound dehiscence (9.16%), excessive implant palpability (5.92%), and seroma (3.82%), with an overall complication rate of 25%. The most common complications in 1788 gluteal fat augmentation procedures were seroma (6.9%), infection (3.0%), and transient sciatic paresthesia (1.0%), with an overall complication rate of 13%. Several articles listed satisfaction figures, but these were not assessed because this article was not powered to assess this outcome. Overall, gluteal augmentation using autologous fat grafting leads to fewer postoperative complications than implants and allows greater contouring of the buttocks and the surrounding areas. However, it can also be a far more dangerous procedure if certain recommendations are not followed.

Circumferential Liposuction of the Thigh with Concomitant Fat Transplantation to the Infragluteal Region: A Promising Option for Preventing Postliposuction Gluteal Ptosis. Abstract
BACKGROUND Gluteal ptosis is a common complication of circumferential liposuction of the thigh. The authors propose a novel concept of combining circumferential liposuction of the thigh with concomitant fat transplantation to the infragluteal/posterior thigh junction region to prevent postliposuction gluteal ptosis. METHODS Patients underwent circumferential liposuction of the thigh with or without concomitant fat transplantation from 2015 to 2020 and were retrospectively reviewed. The postoperative changes in the grade of gluteal ptosis, length of hospitalization, time to recovery, postoperative complications, and patient satisfaction were evaluated. RESULTS A total of 109 patients were enrolled in this study, including 46 patients in the liposuction-only group and 63 patients in the liposuction plus fat transplantation group. There was no significant difference in fat removal volume between the liposuction-only group and the liposuction plus fat transplantation group ( p = 0.152). Aggravation of gluteal ptosis occurred in 43 patients (93.5 percent) in the liposuction-only group and four patients (6.3 percent) in the liposuction plus fat transplantation group ( p < 0.001). The length of hospitalization and time to recovery was not significantly different between the two groups ( p = 0.402 and p = 0.423, respectively). Complications were rare in both groups. With a minimum evaluation time of 6 months, patients in the liposuction plus fat transplantation group showed significantly higher satisfaction ( p < 0.001). CONCLUSION Concomitant fat transplantation to the infragluteal/posterior thigh junction region during circumferential liposuction of the thigh is effective in preventing postliposuction gluteal ptosis and improving patient satisfaction. Abstract
BACKGROUND In this experimental study, the authors investigated whether fat placement in the pocket during implant insertion affects capsule formation. METHODS Twenty albino Wistar rats, 400 g each, were used. The rats were divided into two groups, A and B, of 10 rats each. At the dorsum of each rat, four pockets (2 × 2 cm each) were dissected, two left and two right of the midline. In each pocket, a 1 × 1 × 1.5-cm silicone implant was inserted. In the two left pockets, only silicone implants were placed (control). In the two right pockets, 0.4 ml of fat was injected around the implant. Animals in group A were killed 2 months postoperatively, and those in group B were killed 4 months postoperatively. The implants were dissected with the capsule and sent for histopathologic examination. RESULTS The data of the fat transfer group was compared with control in groups A and B. Capsule thickness, neovascularization, myofibroblast layer thickness, and mast cell population demonstrated no statistically significant difference in either group A (p = 0.385, p = 0.862, p = 0.874, and p = 0.210, respectively) or group B (p = 0.338, p = 1.000, p = 0.288, and p = 0.344, respectively). Inflammation was statistically significantly less (p = 0.07) at 4 months (group B) in the fat transfer group compared to the control group. Likewise, cellularity was statistically significantly less (p = 0.019) at 4 months for the fat transfer group compared with the control group. CONCLUSION Fat injection in the pocket during implant placement may reduce inflammation and cellularity of capsules and predispose to faster capsule maturation. Abstract
Adipose tissue is a compact and well-organized tissue containing a heterogeneous cellular population of progenitor cells, including mesenchymal stromal cells. Due to its availability and accessibility, adipose tissue is considered a “stem cell depot.” Adipose tissue products possess anti-inflammatory, anti-fibrotic, anti-apoptotic, and immunomodulatory effects. Nanofat, being a compact bundle of stem cells with regenerative and tissue remodeling potential, has potential in translational and regenerative medicine. Considering the wide range of applicability of its reconstructive and regenerative potential, the applications of nanofat can be used in various disciplines. Nanofat behaves on the line of adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stromal cells. At the site of injury, these stromal cells initiate a site-specific reparative response comprised of remodeling of the extracellular matrix, enhanced and sustained angiogenesis, and immune system modulation. These properties of stromal cells provide a platform for the usage of regenerative medicine principles in curbing various diseases. Details about nanofat, including various preparation methods, characterization, delivery methods, evidence on practical applications, and ethical concerns are included in this review. However, appropriate guidelines and preparation protocols for its optimal use in a wide range of clinical applications have yet to be standardized.

Abstract
Body contouring procedures are highly impactful because of their potential to improve a patient's quality of life. These procedures, particularly when performed on patients following massive weight loss, may require secondary intervention to treat residual contour abnormalities. Presently, there is a paucity of information in the literature detailing the avoidance and correction of body contouring deformities. Herein, we will discuss the management of patients seeking revisional body contouring procedures.

Abstract
Autologous fat grafting for buttock augmentation is one of the fastest growing plastic surgery procedures, but has also received significant publicity for the relatively high mortality rate secondary to fat emboli. The literature has grown exponentially in the past 5 years on this subject, helping to clarify our knowledge and providing recommendations to minimize risks, including avoiding intramuscular injections, placing the patient in the jackknife position, and utilizing larger-bore cannulas. Since the application of these recommendations, the rate of pulmonary fat embolism has decreased from 0.097% to 0.04%, with a current mortality of 1 in 14,921, making it statistically safer than abdominoplasty. Despite the evolution in our knowledge, techniques, and outcomes, it remains of utmost importance to properly select and educate patients about the safety of fat grafting for buttock augmentation. Abstract
Autologous fat grafting, first described in the 1890s, has since undergone many modifications to optimize safety and efficacy. These changes have resulted in the technique that we now consider standard of care, one that is applied to reconstruction and cosmetic enhancement of the breast and the face both independently and in conjunction with surgical treatment. There is a growing body of evidence that this application has positive outcomes for patient satisfaction, surgeon satisfaction, and overall aesthetic appearance. This article summarizes the body of literature regarding these outcomes, reviews complications of fat grafting in the face and breast, and discusses controversies including radiologic imaging changes and longevity of grafting.
