Abstract
Full-dimensional quantum dynamics simulations of the reaction of Cl with methane and its isotopomers are reported. Thermal rate constants are computed for the Cl + CH4 → HCl + CH3, Cl + CHD3 → HCl + CD3, and Cl + CD4 → DCl + CD3 reactions. Temperatures between 200 and 500 K are considered. In this temperature range, excellent agreement with the experiment is obtained. A detailed analysis of the kinetic isotope effect reveals the crucial importance of the CH3/CD3 umbrella motion. Comparison with approximate ring-polymer molecular dynamics simulations shows significant differences depending on the isotope studied.

Abstract
We present QuTree, a C++ library for tree tensor network approaches. QuTree provides class structures for tensors, tensor trees, and related linear algebra functions that facilitate the fast development of tree tensor network approaches such as the multilayer multiconfigurational time-dependent Hartree approach or the density matrix renormalization group approach and its various extensions. We investigate the efficiency of relevant tensor and tensor network operations and show that the overhead for managing the network structure is negligible, even in cases with a million leaves and small tensors. QuTree focuses on providing simple, high-level routines while retaining easy access to the backend to facilitate novel developments. We demonstrate the capabilities of the package by computing the eigenstates of coupled harmonic oscillator Hamiltonians and performing random circuit simulations on a virtual quantum computer.

Abstract
We have investigated the OH + HCl reaction on the surface of ice using Born-Oppenheimer molecular dynamics (BOMD) simulation. The present work revealed that the OH + HCl reaction becomes ∼1 order of magnitude faster on the ice surface compared to the bare reaction. The BOMD simulation also indicates that the Cl radical formed on the ice surface through the title reaction can form two hydrogen bonds at a time with the water molecules present on the ice surface; hence, the Cl radical cannot escape from the ice surface easily.

Abstract
The present study investigates the mode specificity in the microsolvated OH˙(H2O) + HCl reaction using on-the-fly direct dynamics simulation. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study which aims to gain insights into the effect of microsolvation on the mode selectivity. Our investigation reveals that, similar to the gas phase OH˙ + HCl reaction, the microsolvated reaction is also predominantly affected by the vibrational excitation of the HCl mode, whereas the OH vibrational mode behaves as a spectator. Interestingly, in contrast to the behavior of the bare reaction, the integral cross section at the ground state of the microsolvated reaction decreases with an increase in translational energy. However, for the vibrational excited states, the reactivity of the microsolvated reaction is found to be higher than that of the bare reaction within the selected range of translational energies.

Abstract
The transition state is a central concept of chemistry. Photoelectron-photofragment coincidence (PPC) spectroscopy has been proven as an attractive method to study the transition state dynamics. Within a state-of-the-art full-dimensional quantum mechanical model, the dissociative photodetachment dynamics of H3O2- is investigated on accurate anion and neutral potential energy surfaces. The calculated PPC spectrum of H3O2- agrees well with the experimental measurement. The dissociative product OH is exclusively populated on the ground vibrational state, implying the character of the spectator bond. In contrast, the product H2O is predominantly populated in the ground and fundamental states of the symmetric and antisymmetric stretching modes, which is caused by the strong coupling between the antisymmetric motion of the transferred H atom in the transient intermediate [H3O2]* and both stretching modes of the product H2O.

Abstract
We evaluated the accuracy of the J-shifting approximation to estimate reactant state-selected cross sections for the F+CH4 → HF+CH3 and F+CHD3 → HF+CD3/DF+CHD2 reactions. In particular, we analyzed how the rotational state of methane influences the quality of the approximation. The systems were considered in full dimensionality. Since full-quantum scattering calculations are still unfeasible for these reactions, we employed quasi-classical trajectories (QCT) to calculate the cross sections. The characteristics of the Born-Oppenheimer potential energy surface of these reactions pose a great challenge to the assumptions of the J-shifting approach. In spite of this, we found that it performs well for both reactions if the methane molecule is in the rotational ground state. However, when methane is rotationally excited, the approach affords good results for the F+CH4 system but clearly fails for F+CHD3. The reasons for this failure will be discussed, and a simple procedure to recover good estimators for the cross sections from J = 0 calculations will be introduced.

Abstract
Mode specificity is a main characteristic of transition state control of reaction dynamics. The normal mode representation has been widely employed to describe the mode specificity in elementary chemical reactions. However, spectroscopists have demonstrated that the local mode representation has advantages in analyzing the overtone and combination band spectra. In this work, the mode-specific reaction dynamics between the hydrogen atom and the molecules H2S and H2O is studied using a full-dimensional quantum scattering model in the (2 + 1) Radau-Jacobi coordinates. The mode specificities in the reactions that violates our physical intuition in the normal mode representation are well rationalized in the local mode representation. The energy flow between different XH bonds resulting from the intramolecular interaction and/or intermolecular interaction is unveiled, together with its impacts on dynamics of the abstraction and exchange reactions.

Abstract
The thermal rate coefficients of a prototypical bimolecular reaction are determined on an accurate ab initio potential energy surface (PES) using ring polymer molecular dynamics (RPMD). It is shown that quantum effects such as tunneling and zero-point energy (ZPE) are of critical importance for the HCl + OH reaction at low temperatures, while the heavier deuterium substitution renders tunneling less facile in the DCl + OH reaction. The calculated RPMD rate coefficients are in excellent agreement with experimental data for the HCl + OH reaction in the entire temperature range of 200-1000 K, confirming the accuracy of the PES. On the other hand, the RPMD rate coefficients for the DCl + OH reaction agree with some, but not all, experimental values. The self-consistency of the theoretical results thus allows a quality assessment of the experimental data.

Abstract
Multi-configurational time-dependent Hartree (MCTDH) based approaches are efficient, accurate, and versatile methods for high-dimensional quantum dynamics simulations. Applications range from detailed investigations of polyatomic reaction processes in the gas phase to high-dimensional simulations studying the dynamics of condensed phase systems described by typical solid state physics model Hamiltonians. The present article presents an overview of the different areas of application and provides a comprehensive review of the underlying theory. The concepts and guiding ideas underlying the MCTDH approach and its multi-mode and multi-layer extensions are discussed in detail. The general structure of the equations of motion is highlighted. The representation of the Hamiltonian and the correlated discrete variable representation (CDVR), which provides an efficient multi-dimensional quadrature in MCTDH calculations, are discussed. Methods which facilitate the calculation of eigenstates, the evaluation of correlation functions, and the efficient representation of thermal ensembles in MCTDH calculations are described. Different schemes for the treatment of indistinguishable particles in MCTDH calculations and recent developments towards a unified multi-layer MCTDH theory for systems including bosons and fermions are discussed.

Abstract
Typical (sub)system-bath quantum dynamical problems are often investigated by means of (approximate) reduced equations of motion. Wavepacket approaches to the dynamics of the whole system have gained momentum in recent years and there is hope that properly designed approximations to the wavefunction will allow one to correctly describe the subsystem evolution. The continuous-configuration time-dependent self-consistent field (CC-TDSCF) and local coherent-state approximation (LCSA) methods, for instance, use a simple Hartree product of bath single-particle-functions for each discrete variable representation (DVR) state introduced in the Hilbert space of the subsystem. Here we focus on the above two methods and replace the DVR states with the eigenstates of the subsystem Hamiltonian, i.e., we adopt an energy-local representation for the subsystem. We find that stable and semiquantitative results are obtained for a number of dissipative problems, at the same (small) computational cost of the original methods. Furthermore, we find that both methods give very similar results, thus suggesting that coherent-states are well suited to describe (local) bath states. As a whole, present results highlight the importance of the system basis-set in the selected-multiconfiguration expansion of the wavefunction. They suggest that accurate and yet computationally cheap methods may be simply obtained from CC-TDSCF/LCSA by letting the subsystem states be variationally optimized.

Abstract
The quantum dynamics of the complex-forming S(N)2 reaction Cl(-)+CH(3)Br-->ClCH(3)+Br(-) is studied with emphasis on rotational effects. The pseudotriatomic system Cl-Me-Br is treated with a corresponding three-dimensional (3D) potential energy surface as a function of the two scattering coordinates and the enclosed angle where the geometry of the methyl group Me is optimized at each point. The 3D space is divided into three different parts, the interaction region, an intermediate region, and the asymptotic region. In line with simple classical-mechanical arguments and previous classical trajectory calculations, initial rotational motion of CH(3)Br seemingly decreases the reaction probability. However, the dynamical inclusion of the rotational degree of freedom and the presence of the many rovibrational product states overall lead to a large increase in reactivity compared to our previous collinear study on this reaction. If the reactant is rotationally excited, the higher vibrational product states are depleted in favor of lower-lying levels. Starting the reaction with rotationless reactants may end up in significant rotational excitation in the product molecules (translation-to-rotation energy transfer). On the other hand, initial rotational energy in rotationally highly excited reactants is to a large amount converted into translational and vibrational energy. The average amount of rotational energy in the products shows a twofold vibrational excitation-independent saturation (i.e., memorylessness), with respect to both initial rotational excitation and translational energy. Since only about one-half of all reactant states end in rotationless products, the reaction probability should be increased by a factor of 2; the actually larger reactivity points to other dynamical effects that play an important role in the reaction.

Abstract
The truly accurate knowledge of molecular dynamics phenomena is generally achieved through a combination of detailed experiments and first principle theory. The complexity of such a level of description had until recently restricted accurate studies to rather small systems. However, the sophistication of theoretical methods and massive technological developments have provided remarkable progress in the detailed knowledge of reactive events during the past three decades. Moreover, significant progress towards the detailed understanding of polyatomic reaction has been made in recent years. Detailed experimental and accurate theoretical studies of reactions involving more than only three or four atoms are becoming increasingly available. In this work, aspects of the theoretical work aiming at the accurate description of polyatomic reactions are reviewed.
The present article focuses on the development of the first principle theory of reaction rates. It reviews theoretical developments and benchmark applications to reactions as CH4 + H → CH3 + H2 and CH4 + O → CH3 + OH. The importance of quantum effects for the thermal rate constants in different temperature regimes is discussed in detail. The accuracy of the classical transition state theory and of different approximate quantum theories is investigated in detail. A quantum transition state concept which facilitates accurate reaction rate calculations for polyatomic reaction is described. Benchmark results for the CH4 + H → CH3 + H2 reaction are shown which demonstrate that the accuracy of thermal rate constants calculated by first principle theory can rival the accuracy of available experimental data. The perspectives offered by these developments are discussed.
