Abstract
We describe a facile synthesis of the cyapho-cyanamide salt [Na(18-crown-6)][N(CN)(CP)] from reaction of [Na(18-crown-6)][PH2 ] (18-crown-6=1,4,7,10,13,16-hexaoxacyclooctadecane) with dimethyl N-cyanocarbonimidate, (MeO)2 C=N(CN). The reaction proceeds with elimination of two equivalents of methanol. Careful tuning of the reaction conditions allowed for the isolation and characterization of the N-cyano(carboximidate)phosphide intermediate [HP{C(OMe)N(CN)}]- . Due to the adverse effects of methanol in these reaction mixtures, a bulk scale synthesis of [Na(18-crown-6)][N(CN)(CP)] could be achieved by addition of a base (LiHMDS) to neutralize the resulting alcohol. Further reactivity studies of this anion reveal that functionalization at the phosphorus atom is viable to yield a new family of cyanide-functionalised phosphorus heterocycles.

Abstract
The cyano(triphenylsilyl)phosphanide anion was prepared as a sodium salt from 2-phosphaethynolate. The electronic structure of this new cyano(silyl)phosphanide was studied via computational methods and its reactivity investigated using various electrophiles and Lewis acids, demonstrating its P- and N-nucleophilicity. The ambident reactivity is in agreement with computations. The silyl group also shows lability and therefore the cyano(silyl)phosphanide can be considered as a phosphacyanamide synthon, [PCN]2- , and serves as building block for the transfer of a PCN moiety.

Abstract
Nitrogen-containing polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) is the single basic moiety in N-doped graphene, the only metal-free catalyst reported to date to successfully produce the oxygen reduction reaction. N-doped graphene is quite promising as a material to increase the efficiency of oxygen reduction. In addition, it is known that when carbon dioxide is added to aza-benzene, there will be an associative chemical reaction upon electron attachment between the anionic nitrogen atoms in the aza-benzene and the carbon atom in the carbon dioxide; however, it has previously been reported that when there are more nitrogen atoms in the small aza-benzene moiety, the associative reaction does not always occur. In this study, we carried out a theoretical simulation to determine whether more electrons increase the CO2 reductive reactivity of the aza-naphthalene as a model system of a nitrogen-containing polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon. We found that even though an associative chemical reaction between nitrogen atoms in the N-PAH and carbon atoms in carbon dioxide did not occur in anionic complexes of aza-naphthalene and carbon dioxide, chemical reactions did occur in all the nitrogen atoms of these complexes when we added an extra excess electron. Therefore, we conclude that the efficiency of CO2 reduction will be increased in nitrogen atoms when more electrons are added to increase their anionic properties. Nitrogen-containing polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) is the single basic moiety in N-doped graphene, the only metal-free catalyst reported to date to successfully produce the oxygen reduction reaction.![]()

Abstract
The facile preparation of alkali salts of phosphanyl cyanophosphides [NHP-PCN]- (NHP=N-heterocyclic phosphenium) is reported. Their formation is achieved by isoelectronic replacement of O for [N]- in the phosphaketenes NHP-PCO using alkaline hexamethyldisilazide M[N(SiMe3 )2 ] (M=Na, K) as reagent. The new anionic entities are versatile PCN building blocks which allow the formation of a diversity of new cyanophosphine derivates including the first example of a PCNB hetero-cumulene and a PCN-ligated transition metal complex.

Abstract
After many decades of intense research in low-coordinate phosphorus chemistry, the advent of Na[OCP] brought new stimuli to the field of CHOP isomers and derivatives thereof. The present theoretical study at the CCSD(T)/def2-TZVPP level describes the chemical space of CHOP isomers in terms of structures and potential energy surfaces, using oxaphosphirene as the starting point, but also covering substituted derivatives and COP- isomers. Bonding properties of the P⁻C, P⁻O, and C⁻O bonds in all neutral and anionic isomeric species are discussed on the basis of theoretical calculations using various bond strengths descriptors such as WBI and MBO, but also the Lagrangian kinetic energy density per electron as well as relaxed force constants. Ring strain energies of the superstrained 1H-oxaphosphirene and its barely strained oxaphosphirane-3-ylidene isomer were comparatively evaluated with homodesmotic and hyperhomodesmotic reactions. Furthermore, first time calculation of the ring strain energy of an anionic ring is described for the case of oxaphosphirenide.

Abstract
The influence of presence of counter ions and π-complexation with benzene on the bonding and magnetic properties of Al(4)(2-), the most studied all-metal cluster, is studied here. It is shown that complexation by either counter ions or benzene decreases the delocalization index between Al atoms and the magnitude of bond magnetizability, that is a Quantum Theory of Atoms in Molecules, QTAIM, -based magnetic index of aromaticity. Benzene forms two types of π-complexes with the Al(4) framework; CH-π (T-shaped) complexes and parallel π-π stacking (PPS) complexes. It is shown that variation in the π-charge of the Al(4) framework affects the relative stability of the T-shaped/PPS complexes. Free Al(4)(2-) forms a stable T-shaped anion-π complex with benzene but in the presence of cations, formation of PPS complexes is more favourable, energetically. It is suggested that this property could be used for designing molecular switches and tuneable anion sensors.

Abstract
In this critical review I describe fascinating experimental and theoretical advances in 'noble gas' chemistry during the last twenty years, and have taken a somewhat unexpected course since 2000. I also highlight perspectives for further development in this field, including the prospective synthesis of compounds containing as yet unknown Xe-element and element-Xe-element bridging bonds, peroxide species containing Xe, adducts of XeF(2) with various metal fluorides, Xe-element alloys, and novel pressure-stabilized covalently bound and host-guest compounds of Xe. A substantial part of the essay is devoted to the-as yet experimentally unexplored-behaviour of the compounds of Xe under high pressure. The blend of science, history, and theoretical predictions, will be valued by inorganic and organic chemists, materials scientists, and the community of theoretical and experimental high-pressure physicists and chemists (151 references).

Abstract
The small coinage-metal polonium compounds MPo and M2Po, (M = Cu, Ag, Au) are studied at Hartree–Fock (HF), second-order Møller–Plesset perturbation theory (MP2), and coupled cluster method CCSD(T) levels using relativistic and non-relativistic pseudopotentials. The calculated geometries indicate that the M2Po (M = Cu, Ag, Au) systems have bent structures of ~64° angles. Electron correlation corrections to the bond length M–Po are extremely small, but to the bond angle M–Po–M are significant; in general, it was reduced from 86° to 64°. Relativistic effects on bond angle are small, but on bond length are distinct. Both electron correlation effects and relativistic effects are essential to determine the geometry and relative stability of the systems. It can be predicted that Au2Po is relatively stable compared with Ag2Po.
