Abstract
Objective This study aimed to identify the main knee complaints and injuries associated with baseball and their prevalence in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. Methods This epidemiological study analyzed data from an online questionnaire sent to baseball athletes from the state of São Paulo, Brazil, from 2019 to 2022. Results Ninety-eight athletes participated in the study. Their average age was 24.3 years, and 85.72% of the subjects were men. The most prevalent ethnicities were yellow (50%) and white (42.86%). Most athletes had incomplete or complete higher education (75.5%). Most (88.77%) have been training for over 1 year, and 40.82% played in more than 1 position. More than half also practiced another sport. Most (66.32%) athletes present knee complaints or symptoms, and 37.75% had suffered a knee injury playing baseball, with several mechanisms (contact with the ground, contact with another player, or no contact). More than half (59.45%) of the athletes required time away from baseball due to complaints, symptoms, or injuries. Conclusion Among the athletes interviewed, 66.32% had a knee complaint, and 37.75% had already had a knee injury, especially meniscal and ligament injuries. The injury rate was highest in the first year of practice.

Abstract
Overhead throwing, particularly in baseball, subjects the shoulder and elbow to various unique injuries. Capsular contracture following repetitive external rotation shifts the humeral head posterosuperiorly, predisposing to glenohumeral internal rotation deficit (GIRD), Bennett, posterosuperior internal impingement (PSI), and superior labrum anterior-posterior (SLAP) lesions. GIRD represents loss of internal rotation at the expense of external rotation. Bennett lesion represents ossification of the posteroinferior glenohumeral ligament due to repetitive traction. PSI manifests with humeral head cysts and "kissing" tears of the posterosuperior cuff and labrum. Scapular dysfunction contributes to symptoms of PSI and predisposes to labral or rotator cuff disease. "Peel-back" or SLAP lesions occur when torsional forces detach the biceps-labral anchor from the glenoid. Finally, disorders of the anterior capsule, latissimus dorsi, teres major, and subscapularis are well recognized in overhead throwers. At the elbow, injuries typically involve the medial-sided structures. The ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) is the primary static restraint to valgus stress and can be thickened, attenuated, ossified, and/or partially or completely torn. Medial epicondylitis can occur with tendinosis, partial tear, or complete rupture of the flexor-pronator mass and can accompany UCL tears and ulnar neuropathy. Posteromedial impingement (PMI) and valgus extension overload syndrome are related entities that follow abundant valgus forces during late cocking or acceleration, and deceleration. These valgus stresses wedge the olecranon into the olecranon fossa, leading to PMI, osteophytes, and intra-articular bodies. Abstract
Background Shoulder and elbow function is essential to basic basketball actions. Outside of anterior shoulder instability, injuries in these joints are not well characterized in National Basketball Association (NBA) players. Purpose To describe the epidemiology and associated risk factors of shoulder and elbow injuries in NBA players and identify factors that influence player performance upon return to play. Study Design Descriptive epidemiology study. Methods Historical injury data from the 2015-2020 NBA seasons were retrieved from Pro Sports Transactions, a public online database. An injury was defined as a health-related concern resulting in an absence of ≥1 NBA games. Primary measures included pre- and postinjury player efficiency rating (PER) and true shooting percentage (TS%) with interquartile ranges (IQRs), stratified by extremity dominance. Multivariate logistic regression analyses with stepwise regression were performed to identify risk factors associated with return-to-play performance. Results A total of 192 shoulder and elbow injuries were sustained among 126 NBA athletes, with incidence rates of 1.11 per 1000 game exposures (GEs) and 0.30 per 1000 GEs, respectively. Sprain/strain and general soreness were the most common injury types in both the shoulder and the elbow. In the 2 years after injury, baseline PER was achieved in all groups, except for players with dominant shoulder injuries (baseline PER, 16 [IQR, 14-18] vs 2-year PER, 13 [IQR 11-16]; P = .012). Younger age was associated with quicker return to baseline PER (odds ratio, 0.77 [95% CI, 0.67-0.88]). Shoulder and elbow injuries did not negatively influence TS% upon return to play (baseline TS%, 0.55% [IQR, 0.51%-0.58%] vs 1-year TS%, 0.55% [IQR, 0.52%-0.58%]; P = .13). Conclusion Dominant shoulder injuries negatively influenced PER during the first 2 seasons upon return to play in NBA players. Therefore, expectations that players with this type of injury immediately achieve baseline statistical production should be tempered. Shooting accuracy appears to remain unaffected after shoulder or elbow injury.

Abstract
Background Despite shoulder and elbow injuries being common in athletics, return to sport and reinjury rates are less than ideal. These outcomes may be driven by the absence of evidence-informed testing to determine an athlete's readiness for sport. Purpose The purpose of this study was to explore the reported frequency of physical performance testing for return to sport readiness by physical therapists treating athletes with upper extremity injuries and to identify potential barriers that may limit use of these tests. A secondary aim was to compare practice patterns of clinicians with sports physical therapy specialty certification to clinicians without. Study Design International, cross-sectional survey using purposive sampling. Methods A survey instrument was created to assess the frequency of use of physical performance tests by physical therapists treating athletes with upper extremity injuries, as well as the barriers limiting the use of these tests. The 19-question online survey was distributed via email and Twitter among sports physical therapists. Independent t-tests and Chi Square analyses were conducted to determine differences in practice patterns between physical therapists with and without specialization and the frequency of potential barriers that may limit the use of these tests. Results Four hundred ninety-eight participants met study eligibility and completed the survey. Fewer than half of participants reported using any physical performance test in making return to sport decisions for athletes with upper extremity injuries. The greatest barriers to the use of physical performance tests were a lack of equipment followed by lack of understanding of the literature, lack of time, and lack of supporting literature. Sports specialist clinicians were significantly more likely (p<0.001) to use physical performance tests than non-specialist clinicians (71.6% versus 36.3%). Conclusion In this survey of physical therapists (n=498), the majority admit to not using physical performance tests when making return to sport decisions for athletes with upper extremity injuries regardless of specialization.Physical therapists have an opportunity to improve the utilization physical performance testing in the upper extremity athlete in hopes of reducing injury recurrence and enhance return to sport rates. Abstract
This statement paper summarises and appraises the evidence on diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of common shoulder injuries in sports. We systematically searched Medline and Embase. The Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation tool was applied to evaluate the overall quality of evidence.For diagnosis, we included 19 clinical tests from mixed populations. Tests for anterior instability, biceps-labrum complex injuries and full subscapularis rupture had high diagnostic accuracy (low to moderate quality of evidence).For prevention, the Oslo Sports Trauma Research Center, the Shoulder Control, the FIFA 11+ shoulder injury prevention programmes, and a baseball-specific programme (range of motion, stretching, dynamic stability and strengthening exercises) showed moderate to large effect size in reducing the risk of shoulder injury compared with no intervention (very low to moderate quality of evidence).For treatment, a rehabilitation programme including stretching, ice packs, electrotherapy and compression, and strengthening exercises showed a large effect size in reducing pain and disability compared with no intervention in athletes with subacromial impingement syndrome (very low to moderate quality of evidence). For the treatment of supraspinatus tendinopathy, hyperthermia treatment (heating the skin to 38°C-40°C) resulted in large effect size in reducing pain and disability compared with ultrasound or pendular swinging and stretching exercises (moderate quality of evidence). Strengthening exercise alone or in combination with stretching exercises promoted a large effect in reducing shoulder pain (cohort studies, no comparators) (very low quality of evidence). The quality of evidence for most estimates was low to moderate, indicating that future high-quality research may alter our recommendations for clinical practice.

Abstract
Background The current literature lacks an updated review examining return to play (RTP) and return to prior performance (RTPP) after shoulder surgery in professional baseball players. Purpose To summarize the RTP rate, RTPP rate, and baseball-specific performance metrics among professional baseball players who underwent shoulder surgery. Study Design Systematic review; Level of evidence, 4. Methods A literature search was performed utilizing the PubMed, MEDLINE, and CINAHL databases and according to PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines. Inclusion criteria were English-language studies reporting on postoperative RTP and/or RTPP in professional baseball players who underwent shoulder surgery between 1976 and 2016. RTP rates, RTPP rates, and baseball-specific performance metrics were extracted from qualifying studies. A total of 2034 articles were identified after the initial search. Meta-analysis was performed where applicable, yielding weighted averages of RTP and RTPP rates and comparisons between pitchers and nonpitchers for each type of surgery. Baseball-specific performance metrics were reported as a narrative summary. Results Overall, 26 studies featuring 1228 professional baseball players were included. Patient-level outcome data were available for 529 players. Surgical interventions included rotator cuff debridement (n = 197), rotator cuff repair (RCR; n = 43), superior labrum from anterior to posterior repair (n = 124), labral repair (n = 103), latissimus dorsi/teres major (LD/TM) repair (n = 21), biceps tenodesis (n = 17), coracoclavicular ligament reconstruction (n = 15), anterior capsular repair (n = 5), and scapulothoracic bursectomy (n = 4). Rotator cuff debridement was the most common surgical procedure, while scapulothoracic bursectomy was the least common (37.2% and 0.8% of interventions, respectively). Meta-analysis revealed that the RTP rate was highest for LD/TM repair (84.5%) and lowest for RCR (53.5%), while the RTPP rate was highest for LD/TM repair (100.0%) and lowest for RCR (27.9%). RTP and RTPP rates were generally higher for position players than for pitchers. Nonvolume performance metrics were unaffected by shoulder surgery, while volume statistics decreased or remained similar. Conclusion RTP and RTPP rates among professional baseball players were modest after most types of shoulder surgery. Among surgical procedures commonly performed on professional baseball players, RTP and RTPP rates were highest for LD/TM repair and lowest for RCR.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To evaluate the effectiveness of conservative therapy in range of movement (ROM), strength, pain, subacromial space and physical function, in overhead athletes with glenohumeral internal rotation deficit (GIRD). METHODS A systematic review and meta-analysis was designed, and the protocol was registered in PROSPERO (CRD42021281559). The databases searched were: PubMed, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Physiotherapy Evidence Database, Web of Science and SCOPUS. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) involving conservative therapy applied in overhead athletes with GIRD were included. Two independent assessors evaluated the quality of the studies with the PEDro scale, and with the Cochrane Risk-of-Bias tool. The overall quality of the evidence was assessed using GRADE. Data on outcomes of interest were extracted by a researcher using RevMan 5.4 software. Estimates were presented as standardized mean differences (SMD) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). RESULTS A total of eleven studies involving 514 overhead athletes were included in the systematic review; of these 8 were included in the meta-analysis. The methodological quality of the included RCTs ranged from high to low. Conservative therapy showed significant improvements in internal rotation, adduction, physical function and subacromial space. CONCLUSIONS Conservative therapy based on stretch, passive joint and muscular mobilizations can be useful to improve the internal rotation and adduction ROM, subacromial space, and physical function of the shoulder in overhead athletes with glenohumeral internal rotation deficit.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Strength testing of shoulder rotation is commonly used in clinical examinations of the shoulder. People prone to shoulder injury, such as overhead athletes and manual trade workers, place their shoulders under tremendous amounts of stress when the cervical spine is in nonneutral positions. If these nonneutral cervical spine positions result in decreased shoulder strength, it may help explain the etiology of the high prevalence of shoulder injuries in these populations. Given standard clinical strength assessments are performed with a neutral cervical spine, an investigation into the effects of cervical spine rotation is warranted. QUESTIONS/PURPOSES We sought to compare isokinetic shoulder rotation strength while in a neutral position with rotated cervical spine positions, specifically (1) with the cervical spine rotated contralaterally with the shoulder elevated in the frontal plane and (2) with the cervical spine rotated ipsilaterally and the shoulder elevated in the scapular plane. METHODS A convenience sample of 52 individuals (height 170 ± 10 cm; weight 73 ± 18 kg, age 21 ± 2 years; 18 males, 34 females), without shoulder or cervical spine pathology participated in this study. Participants were screened for eligibility via questionnaire. Concentric shoulder internal and external rotation torque was measured through a 90° arc on an isokinetic dynamometer with the shoulder elevated 90° in the frontal plane, and again 45° anterior to the frontal plane (scapular plane). Two repetitions were performed in a single testing session with the participant's cervical spine in neutral in both planes, maximally rotated contralaterally in the frontal plane, and maximally rotated ipsilaterally with the shoulder in the scapular plane; the second repetition was used for analysis. The testing order was randomized. Data were imported into a platform for statistical parametric mapping analysis (a technique that allows data from the entire arc of motion to be compared with data from another arc to identify differences in the wave form) to compare strength between positions throughout 90° arc of motion. RESULTS Rotating the cervical spine contralaterally with the shoulder in the frontal plane resulted in a decrease in external (2.24 Nm or 12% average difference; p < 0.001) and internal (2.22 Nm or a 6% average difference; p = 0.02) rotation strength with the forearm within 15° and 20° of the vertical position. Rotating the cervical spine ipsilaterally with the shoulder in the scapular plane resulted in a decrease in external rotation strength (1.27 Nm or a 6% average difference; p < 0.001) throughout nearly all the motion, with peaks approximately 20° and 60° from the horizontal position, and internal rotation strength (1.78 Nm or 5% average difference; p < 0.001) the last 60° towards the horizontal position. CONCLUSION Patient populations who require strenuous use of their shoulders in altered cervical spine positions may be at increased risk for injury from decreased shoulder rotator strength. CLINICAL RELEVANCE Clinicians should assess shoulder strength in the position the patient requires to use their shoulder because cervical spine position may cause weakness that would be missed in standard testing positions.

Abstract
The non-complexity of tennis, coupled with its health benefits, renders it appealing and encourages varying competitions at different levels of age, gender, and expertise. However, the rapid increase in the participation rates witnesses a surge in injury occurrences, prompting the need for in-depth analysis to facilitate immediate intervention. We employed a media content analysis technique in which tennis-associated articles published in the last 5 years were examined. A total of 207 news reports were gathered and screened for analysis. Subsequently, 71 articles were excluded from the study due to content duplications or summary updates of existing news articles, while 23 news articles were also excluded from the study due to inappropriateness. Finally, 113 news reports directly related to injury in tennis were coded and analyzed. We examined various types of injuries reported from the screened articles with respect to their status (fresh, recurrent, and recovery) across expertise levels i.e., elite, or amateur. Similarly, the incidence of injury occurrences based on the types of tournaments the players engage in was also investigated. A chi-square analysis was employed to achieve the objectives of the study. Occurrences of tennis-associated injuries are disseminated across expertise levels [χ ( 18 ) 2 = 16.542; p = 0.555], with knee, hip, elbow, and shoulder injuries being highly prevalent in both elite and amateur players. Nevertheless, it was noted that elite players suffered a staggering 72.60% of injury-related problems, while amateur players sustained 27.40% of injuries. Moreover, the status of injury spreads based on types of tournaments [χ ( 4 ) 2 = 3.374; p = 0.497], with higher occurrences of fresh and recurrent injuries, while low recovery rates were observed. The findings further demonstrated that injuries are sustained regardless of tournament types [χ ( 36 ) 2 = 39.393; p = 0.321]. However, most of the injuries occurred at international tournaments (85%). Whereas, only 5.30% of the injuries occurred at national/regional tournaments while 9.70% were unidentified. It could be deduced from the findings of this investigation that elite players are more prone to injuries compared with amateur players. Furthermore, the most common tennis-related injuries affect the lower, trunk, and upper regions of the body, respectively. A large number of the reported tennis injuries are fresh and recurrent, with a few recoveries. The international tennis tournaments are highly attributed to injury occurrences as opposed to the national/regional tournaments. The application of the media-based data mining technique is non-trivial in projecting injury-related problems that could be used to facilitate the development of an injury index peculiar to the tennis sport for prompt intervention.

Abstract
Football sports can easily lead to a calf strain and tendon damage. To this end, we explored the therapeutic effect of sodium hyaluronate biomaterial-assisted micro-suturing in treating calf tendon injury after football sports. Given this, we will group the patients to compare the test
and conduct the efficacy analysis. One group was sutured by ordinary microsurgery. The other was sutured and combined with sodium hyaluronate treatment. The study found that there were statistical differences in tendon recovery between the two groups of patients. Sodium hyaluronate biomaterial
can improve the treatment effect of calf tendon injury in football sports. This biological material is worthy of clinical application.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study examined the effects of clubbell exercises in a pitcher training program on the range of motion (ROM), muscle function, and its subsequent influence on pitching velocity. Additionally, this study aimed to develop an optimal training program to prevent injury while improving pitcher performance.METHODS Eighteen pitchers were included and equally divided into clubbell exercise and control groups. Clubbell training was conducted through 60-minute sessions twice a week for 12 weeks. Internal/external rotational (IR/ER) ROM, IR/ER muscle strength, muscle endurance, muscle power, and pitching velocity were measured before and after the intervention.RESULTS The IR (<i>p</i> = 0.051) and total ROM (TROM; <i>p</i> = 0.05) of the throwing arm decreased in the control group but increased in the clubbell exercise group, with an observed tendency of interaction. In the non-throwing arm, the ER ROM was significantly different between the two groups (<i>p</i> <0 .05), also with an observed tendency of interaction (<i>p</i> = 0.055). IR peak torque per body weight at 60°/sec significantly increased in both groups over the exercise period (<i>p</i> < 0.01). Total work per body weight and average power of IR at 180°/sec increased in both groups over the exercise period (<i>p</i> < 0.01). The pitching velocity decreased in both groups throughout the exercise period (<i>p</i> < 0.05).CONCLUSIONS Although 12 weeks of clubbell training had limited effects on ROM, the findings revealed that this exercise could be effective in improving pitching performance, preventing injuries, and maintaining long-term performance. Further studies are recommended for a more detailed assessment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The effect of time interval between injury and surgery on outcomes of Bankart repair surgery has not been published previously. The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of surgical delay on functional outcomes after arthroscopic Bankart repair. METHOD One hundred and five athletes who underwent arthroscopic Bankart repair ± remplissage were enrolled in the study. Patients were divided into 2 groups depending upon the injury to surgery time- < 12 months (n = 19), and ≥12 months (n = 86). Depending upon the number of episodes of dislocation, patients were further categorized into 2 groups- <10 episodes (n = 66) and ≥10 episodes (n = 39). All patients were assessed post-operatively for functional outcomes (Modified Rowe's score, Constant Murley score) and return to sports at a minimum of 2 years of follow-up. RESULTS The mean injury to surgery time was 31.7 ± 23.1 months. The average number of episodes of dislocation before surgery were 10 (range 3-50). 49/105 (46.7%) patients returned to sports after a mean post-operative duration of 10.9 months. Athletes operated after a surgical delay of ≥12 months had inferior functional outcomes (Modified Rowe's score-89.5 ± 8.9 vs.77.4 ± 21.4; p = 0.02), lower rate of return to sports (14/19 vs. 35/86; p = 0.02) and higher mean time to return to sports (8.7 ± 1.9 vs. 11.5 ± 2.6; p < 0.05). Similarly, athletes who had ≥10 dislocations before surgery had inferior functional outcomes (Modified Rowe's score-84.5 ± 15.2 vs.72.9 ± 25.6; p = 0.004), lower rate of return to sports (37/66 vs. 12/39; p = 0.02) and higher mean time to return to sports (10.3 ± 2.4 vs. 12.6 ± 2.5; p < 0.05). CONCLUSION A delay in surgery (≥12 months) or dislocation episodes of ≥10 are associated with inferior functional outcomes, lower rate of return to sports and higher surgical failure rate. Abstract
Purpose To evaluate whether impending shoulder injury was associated with changes in pitch location or velocity immediately preceding injury. Methods Pitchers placed on the injured list (IL) due to a shoulder injury between 2015 and 2020 were identified in the Major League Baseball transactions database. Four-seam fastball velocity and frequency of pitch location for each pitch type was collected for each player in the season before placement on the IL and within 1 month of placement on the IL with a minimum of 55 pitches thrown of 1 type. Pitch locations were collected as identified by Baseball Savant’s Game-Day Zones. Game-Day Zones were consolidated into high (above the strike zone midpoint) versus low, arm side (closer to the pitcher’s arm side of the plate) versus opposite side, and within the strike zone versus out of zone. Repeated measures analysis of variance determined differences in four-seam velocity and the location distribution of 4-seam fastballs, change-ups, and breaking balls among each group. Results In total, 267 pitchers were placed on the IL for a shoulder injury with the majority diagnosed with inflammation (89/267) followed by strain or sprain (69/267). Four-seam fastball locations significantly increased above the mid-point of the zone (45.9% vs 42.4%, P = .008) and out of the strike zone (48.5% vs 46.5%, P = .011) within a month before IL placement. There was no significant change in 4-seam fastball velocity immediately before IL placement. Conclusions Pitchers threw more elevated 4-seam fastballs and out-of-zone 4-seam fastballs in the month before IL placement for shoulder injury. These findings suggest that a loss of 4-seam fastball command decreases with impending shoulder injury. Level of Evidence IV, prognostic case series.

Abstract
There is an absence of high-quality evidence to support rehabilitation and return-to-sport decisions following shoulder injuries in athletes. The Athlete Shoulder Consensus Group was convened to lead a consensus process that aimed to produce best-practice guidance for clinicians, athletes, and coaches for managing shoulder injuries in sport. We developed the consensus via a 2-round Delphi process (involving more than 40 content and methods experts) and an in-person meeting. This consensus statement provides guidance with respect to load and risk management, supporting athlete shoulder rehabilitation, and decision making during the return-to-sport process. This statement is designed to offer clinicians the flexibility to apply principle-based approaches to managing the return-to-sport process within a variety of sporting backgrounds. The principles and consensus of experts working across multiple sports may provide a template for developing additional sport-specific guidance in the future. Abstract
Background Few specific risk factors are known for shoulder injury in professional pitchers. New pitch-tracking data allow for risk stratification based on advanced metrics. Purpose/Hypothesis The purpose of this study was to determine the association between shoulder injury, pitch frequency, and pitch metrics (velocity, total break, break angle, and spin rate) for the 4-seam fastball, curveball, and slider. We hypothesized that more frequent use of the 4-seam fastball would be associated with shoulder injury. Study Design Case-control study; Level of evidence, 3. Methods The Major League Baseball (MLB) database was queried for pitchers who had been placed on the injury list (IL) with a shoulder injury between 2015 and 2019. Injured pitchers were matched 1:1 with controls (pitchers not on the IL with a shoulder injury during the study period), based on age (±1 year), history of ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction, position (starter vs reliever), and pitches thrown during the injury season (±500). Pitch frequency, velocity, horizontal break, vertical break, total break, and spin rate for the season were collected from the Baseball Savant website for the 4-seam fastball, curveball, and slider. Univariate analysis was used to determine group differences for individual variables. Multiple logistic regression was performed to determine odds ratios (ORs) for shoulder injury associated with pitch frequency, velocity, total break, break angle, and spin rate. Covariates included age, position, ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction status, expected weighted on-base average, and total pitches thrown. Results Overall, 233 injured pitchers were evaluated. The most common reason for IL placement was inflammation (78/233; 33.5%) followed by strain or sprain (61/233; 26.2%). Increased total pitch break was associated with an increased risk of shoulder injury for the 4-seam fastball (OR, 1.340 [95% confidence interval (CI), 1.199-1.509]; P < .001) and slider (OR, 1.360 [95% CI, 1.206-1.554]; P < .001). For the slider, a decreased spin rate (OR = 0.998 [95% CI, 0.997-0.999]; P = .026) and a more vertical break angle (OR = 1.170 [95% CI: 1.073-1.278]; P = .004) were associated with increased risk of injury. Conclusion Increased pitch break of the 4-seam fastball and slider was associated positively with shoulder injury in MLB pitchers. These findings add to the understanding of throwing injury and ability to detect risk using ball-tracking technology.

METHODS CINAHL, Embase, PubMed, and SPORTDiscus electronic databases were searched from database inception through December 2020 for randomized controlled or prospective cohort studies that implemented shoulder injury prevention programs in overhead athletes and reported shoulder injury incidence rates. RESULTS Seven studies fulfilled the inclusion criteria. Two studies reported on odds ratios (OR) that resulted in a reduction of shoulder injuries in overhead athletes following shoulder strengthening and flexibility exercises (OR, 0.72; 95% CI; 0.52, 0.98; OR, 0.22; 95% CI; 0.06, 0.75). One study reported on hazard ratio (HR) that resulted in a reduction of shoulder injuries following stretching of the posterior capsule (HR, 0.36; 95% CI; 0.13, 0.95). CONCLUSION There is limited research surrounding the effectiveness of shoulder injury prevention programs in overhead athletes specific to injury reduction. Only three studies reported a favorable effect in terms of injury prevention, with only one study at low risk of bias. At present, no conclusions can be made regarding the effectiveness of shoulder injury prevention programs in the overhead athlete.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Gorham-Stout disease (GSD) is a rare skeletal disorder characterized by massive osteolysis of a bony area in the body. When it hits the shoulder, the patient is faced with a debilitating limitation in terms of motion, stability and quality of life. GSD etiology and pathology are unknown and, as a result, therapeutic modalities remain unclear. The aim of this paper is to explore and offer medical insight into the possible etiologies, pathologies and therapeutic modalities of GSD in the shoulder. METHODS We explored PubMed/Medline for GSD cases in the shoulder. The search involved all articles published from database inception until February 1, 2019. Only articles published in English were included. Demographics and clinical information extrapolated from the reported cases were analyzed to deduce patterns and infer conclusions. RESULTS Only 32 studies met our criteria, with a total of 37 cases (n=37). Males predominated in 21 cases (57%). Twelve cases (32%) were younger than 18 years, and 18 cases (49%) were aged between 18 and 65 years. Shoulder pain was the predominant reporting symptom. The humerus was the most common shoulder site affected (54%), followed by the scapula (35%) and the clavicle (30%). Almost half of the cases affected the right shoulder (51%), the left shoulder was affected in 16 cases (43%). Conservative treatment was opted in 17 cases (46%), while surgery was performed in 13 cases (35%). Good outcomes were reported in 28 cases (76%), while death occurred twice (5%). CONCLUSION Understanding the demographics and clinical characteristics of GSD in the shoulder region will help in formulating better therapeutic interventions and preventive health policies.
