Abstract
Considering the benefits of controlled drug delivery in cancer treatment, as well as the importance of biological macromolecules in this area, herein, the pre-synthesized carboxymethyl starch (CMS) was converted to CMS nanoparticles (CMS NPs) in one easy nanoprecipitation way. Thereafter, the Ag@MOF(Ag) was in situ synthesized in the presence of pre-prepared CMS NPs (CMS NPs/Ag@MOF(Ag)). Eventually, the functionalization with folic acid (FA) obtained the CMS NPs/Ag@MOF(Ag)-FA. The success of the accomplished process was approved by doing several techniques, including FT-IR, XRD, EDX, AFM, etc. The SEM analysis showed a combination of rod-like and spherical-like morphology for the fabricated bio-nanocomposite. The generated CMS NPs/Ag@MOF(Ag)-FA with a surface area of 10.595 m2/g displayed a pore size of 13.666 nm and 82.99 % of doxorubicin (DOX) loading efficiency (DOX@CMS NPs/Ag@MOF(Ag)-FA). The 38.46 % and 58.19 % of loaded DOX were released respectively within 240 h at pH 7.4 and pH 5.0, referring to the pH-responsivity of the constructed system. 27.25 % of inhibitory effects on HeLa cells were obtained for the drug-loaded bio-nanocomposite. The CMS NPs/Ag@MOF(Ag)-FA also displayed an inherent antibacterial activity towards two common gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. All of these results can contribute to developing polysaccharide-based porous systems in controlled cancer therapy.

Abstract
Biomedical nanocomposites, which are an upcoming breed of mischievous materials, have ushered in a new dimension in the healthcare sector. Incorporating these materials tends to boost features this component already possesses and give might to things these components could not withstand alone. The biopolymer, which carries the nanoparticles, can simultaneously improve the composite's stiffness and biological characteristics, and vice versa. This increases the options of the composite and the number of times it can be used. The bio-nanocomposites and nanoparticles enable the ecocompatibility of the medicine in their biodegradability, and they, in this way, have ecological sustainability. The outcome is the improved properties of medicine and its associated positive impact on the environment. They have broad applications in antimicrobial agents, drug carriers, tissue regeneration, wound care, dentistry, bioimaging, and bone filler, among others. The dissertation on the elements of bio-nanocomposites emphasizes production techniques, their diverse applications in medicine, match-up issues, and future-boasting prospects in the bio-nanocomposites field. Through the utilization of such materials, scientists can develop more suitable for the environment and healthy biomedical solutions, and world healthcare in this way improves as well.

Abstract
Starch is regarded as one of the most promising sustainable materials due to its abundant yield and excellent biodegradability. From the perspective of practical engineering applications, this paper systematically describes the development of starch-based bio-composites in the past decade. Packaging properties, processing characteristics, and current challenges for the efficient processing of starch-based bio-composites are reviewed in industrial packaging. Green coatings, binders, adsorbents, flocculants, flame retardants, and emulsifiers are used as examples to illustrate the versatility of starch-based bio-composites in chemical agent applications. In addition, the work compares the application of starch-based bio-composites in conventional spinning with emerging spinning technologies and describes the challenges of electrostatic spinning for preparing nanoscale starch-based fibers. In terms of flexible electronics, the starch-based bio-composites are regard as a solid polymer electrolyte and easily modified porous material. Moreover, we describe the applications of the starch-based gels in tissue engineering, controlled drug release, and medical dressings. Finally, the theoretical input and technical guidance in the advanced sustainable engineering application of the starch-based bio-composites are provided in the work.

Abstract
Starch has attracted a lot of attention because it is biodegradable, renewable, nontoxic and low cost. By adding antibacterial substances to starch, starch-based materials have antibacterial properties. The composite with other materials can improve the comprehensive performance of starch-based materials, thus broadening the application field of the material. In this paper, we focus on antibacterial starch-based materials and review their preparation and applications. It was found that antibacterial starch-based materials were most widely used in packaging, followed by medicine, and the research on smart starch-based materials was relatively less. This review may provide some reference value for subsequent studies of starch-based materials.

Abstract
Hydrogels obtained from natural polymers have received widespread attention for their excellent biocompatible property, nontoxicity, easy gelation, and functionalization. Polysaccharides can regulate the gut microbiota and improve the intestinal microenvironment, thus exerting the healthy effect of intestinal immunity. In an active substance delivery system, the extent and speed of the substance reaching its target are highly dependent on the carrier. Thus, the smart active substance delivery systems are gradually increasing. The smart polysaccharide-hydrogels possess the ability in response to external stimuli through changing their volume phase and structure, which are applied in various fields. Natural polysaccharide-based hydrogels possess excellent characteristics of environmental friendliness, good biocompatibility, and abundant sources. According to the response type, natural polysaccharide-based hydrogels are usually divided into stimulus-responsive hydrogels, including internal response (pH, temperature, enzyme, redox) and external response (light, electricity, magnetism) hydrogels. The delivery system based on polysaccharides can exert their effects in the gastrointestinal tract. At the same time, polysaccharides may also take part in regulating the brain signals through the microbiota-gut-brain axis. Therefore, natural polysaccharide-hydrogels are considered as promising biomaterials, which can be designed as delivery systems for regulating the gut-brain axis. This article reviews the research advance of stimulus-responsive hydrogels, which focus on the types, response characteristics, and applications for polysaccharide-based smart hydrogels as delivery systems.
