Abstract
Herein, a chiral bispyridyl ligand (L) was designed and synthesized using a Schiff base condensation reaction, followed by a 1,3-H shift. Five complexes, [Zn2L2(OAc)4] (1), {[CdLCl2(DMF)]·4H2O}n (2), [Cd2L2I4]·4H2O (3), {[CdL2(H2O)2](NO3)2·2CH3OH}n (4), and [Hg2L2Cl4]·2DMF (5), were synthesized and characterized upon its reaction with Zn(II), Cd(II), or Hg(II) ions, respectively. X-ray crystallography shows that the organic compound exists as a racemic ligand with equal amounts of its R- and S-isomers, and all of the synthesized complexes exhibit heterochiral self-assembly via a chiral self-discrimination process. Complexes 1, 3, and 5 exist as centrosymmetric binuclear metallamacrocycles, while complexes 2 and 4 exist as 1D looped-chain coordination polymers. Inspired by the assembled structures of the five complexes, I2 adsorption/desorption measurements for the complexes were carried out. The results show that complexes 1 and 5 exhibit good adsorption capacities toward I2 in n-hexane and in water, respectively.

Abstract
Insulin resistance is one of the major factors that leads to type 2 diabetes. Although insulin therapies have been shown to overcome insulin resistance, overweight and hypoglycemia are still observed in most cases. The disadvantages of insulin therapies have driven the interest in developing novel curative agents with enhanced insulin resistance reversibility. Magnesium deficiency has also been recognized as a common problem which leads to insulin resistance in both type 1 and 2 diabetes. Oxide nanoparticles demonstrate highly tunable physicochemical properties that can be exploited by engineers to develop unique oxide nanoparticles for tailored applications. Magnesium supplements for diabetic cells have been reported to increase the insulin resistance reversibility. Hence, it is hypothesized that magnesium oxide (MgO) nanoparticles could be molecularly engineered to offer enhanced therapeutic efficacy in reversing insulin resistance. In the present work, morphologically different MgO nanoparticles were synthesized and evaluated for biophysical characteristics, biocompatibility, cytotoxicity, and insulin resistance reversibility. MTT assay revealed that hexagonally shaped MgO nanoparticles are less toxic to 3T3-L1 adipose cells (diabetic) compared with spherically and rod-shaped MgO nanoparticles. MTT assays using VERO cells (normal, non-diabetic) showed that 400 μg/ml of hexagonal MgO nanoparticles were less toxic to both diabetic and non-diabetic cells. DNS glucose assay and western blot showed that hexagonally shaped MgO nanoparticles had reversed 29.5% of insulin resistance whilst fluorescence microscopy studies indicated that the insulin resistance reversal is due to the activation of intracellular enzymes. The probable mechanism for MgO nanoparticles to induce cytotoxic effect and insulin resistance reversal is discussed.

Abstract
Laccases are a group of enzymes with a critical activity in the degradation process of both phenolic and non-phenolic compounds. These enzymes present in a diverse array of species, including fungi and bacteria. Since this enzyme is in the market for different usages from industry to medicine, having a better knowledge of its structures and properties from diverse sources will be useful to select the most appropriate candidate for different purposes. In the current study, sequence- and structure-based characteristics of these enzymes from fungi and bacteria, including pseudo amino acid composition (PseAAC), physicochemical characteristics, and their secondary structures, are being compared and classified. Autodock 4 software was used for docking analysis between these laccases and some phenolic and non-phenolic compounds. The results indicated that features including molecular weight, aliphatic, extinction coefficient, and random coil percentage of these protein groups present high degrees of diversity in most cases. Categorization of these enzymes by the notion of PseAAC, showed over 96% accuracy. The binding free energy between fungal laccases and their substrates showed to be considerably higher than those of bacterial ones. According to the outcomes of the current study, data mining methods by using different machine learning algorithms, especially neural networks, could provide valuable information for a fair comparison between fungal and bacterial laccases. These results also suggested an association between efficacy and physicochemical features of laccase enzymes from different sources.

Abstract
Organotins(IV) exhibit significant in vitro anti-proliferative activity, while the in vivo tests are encouraging. The recent reports on the anti-proliferative activity of organotin(IV) compounds are summarized in this review. The period covered by this work goes back to 2009 until late 2018, while the earlier ones, are included over the previous review of our group published by S.K. Hadjikakou, N. Hadjiliadis, in Coord Chem Rev, 253 (2009) 235-249. During the last decade (2009-2018), >300 organotin(IV) derivatives with oxygen-donor ligands, such as carboxylic acids, amino-acids, Non Steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs), biological active derivatives or natural products, organotins(IV) with sulfur containing ligands such as thiones, thiosemicarbazones, dithiocarbamates, organotin(IV) compounds of oximes and organotins(IV) with amines or semicarbazones were screened for their anti-proliferative effect against various cancer cell lines and their results are included in numerous reports over this period. Although much work has been carried out on organotin(IV) derivatives with O-donor ligands, however significant fewer reports are found on organotins(IV) with oximes as ligands.
