A review on solid base heterogeneous catalysts: preparation, characterization and applications

Chemoselectivity Inversion of Responsive Metal-Organic Frameworks by Particle Size Tuning in the Micrometer Regime

Gated adsorption is one of the unique physical properties of flexible metal-organic frameworks with high application potential in selective adsorption and sensing of molecules. Despite recent studies that have provided some guidelines in understanding and designing structural flexibility for controlling gate opening by chemical modification of the secondary building units, currently, there is no established strategy to design a flexible MOF showing selective gated adsorption for a specific guest molecule. In a present contribution it is demonstrated for the first time, that the selectivity in the gate opening of a particular compound can be tuned, changed, and even reversed using particle size engineering DUT-8(Zn) ([Zn2(2,6-ndc)2(dabco)]n, 2,6-ndc = 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylate, dabco = 1,4-diazabicyclo-[2.2.2]-octane, DUT = Dresden University of Technology) experiences phase transition from open (op) to closed (cp) pore phase upon removal of solvent from the pores. Microcrystals show selective reopening in the presence of dichloromethane (DCM) over alcohols. Crystal downsizing to micron size unexpectedly reverses the gate opening selectivity, causing DUT-8(Zn) to open its nanosized pores for alcohols but suppressing the responsivity toward DCM.

Multicomponent synthesis via acceptorless alcohol dehydrogenation: an easy access to tri-substituted pyridines

Herein, we report palladium supported on a hydroxyapatite catalyst for synthesizing tri-substituted pyridines using ammonium acetate as the nitrogen source via acceptorless alcohol dehydrogenation strategy. The strategy offers a broad substrate scope using inexpensive and readily available alcohols as the starting material. The catalyst was prepared using a simple method and analyzed by several techniques, including FE-SEM, EDS, HR-TEM, BET, XRD, FT-IR, UV-visible spectroscopy, and XPS, demonstrating the anchoring of Pd nanoparticles on hydroxyapatite in the zero oxidation state. Moreover, several controlled experiments were carried out to understand the reaction pathway and a suitable mechanism has been proposed.

Synthesis of Highly Tunable Alloy Nanocatalyst through Heterogeneous Doping Method

The combination of supported metal nanoparticles and functional host oxides catalyze many major industrial reactions. However, uniform dispersion and ideal chemical configuration of such nanoparticles, which determines the catalytic activity, are often difficult to achieve. In this study, a unique combination is proposed of heterogeneous doping and ex-solution for the fabrication of Pt-Ni alloy nanoparticles on CeO₂ . By manipulating the reducing conditions, both the particle size and composition are precisely controlled, thereby achieving a highly dispersed and stable alloy nanocatalyst. The unique behavior of controlled alloy composition is elucidated through classical diffusion and precipitation kinetics with elemental analysis of the grain boundaries. Finally, Pt-Ni alloy nanocatalysts are successfully tuned showcasing a breakthrough performance compared to single element catalyst in reverse water gas shift reaction with superior stability and reproducibility.

Cu(ii) immobilized on poly(guanidine-sulfonamide)-functionalized Bentonite@MgFe2O4: a novel magnetic nanocatalyst for the synthesis of 1,4-dihydropyrano[2,3-c]pyrazole†

In this paper, we aim at synthesizing a new nanocomposite material in which bentonite acts as a nucleation site for MgFe₂O₄ nanoparticles precipitation in the attendance of an external magnetic field (MgFe₂O₄@Bentonite). Moreover, poly(guanidine-sulfonamide), as a novel kind of polysulfonamide, was immobilized on the surface of the prepared support (MgFe₂O₄@Bentonite@PGSA). Finally, an efficient and environment-friendly catalyst (containing nontoxic polysulfonamide, copper, and MgFe₂O₄@Bentonite) was prepared by anchoring a copper ion on the surface of MgFe₂O₄@Bentonite@PGSAMNPs. The synergic effect of MgFe₂O₄ magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs), bentonite, PGSA, and copper species was observed while conducting the control reactions. The synthesized Bentonite@MgFe₂O₄@PGSA/Cu, which was characterized using energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDAX), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, was applied as a highly efficient heterogeneous catalyst to synthesize 1,4-dihydropyrano[2,3-c] pyrazole yielding up to 98% at 10 minutes. Excessive yield, quick reaction time, using water solvent, turning waste to wealth, and recyclability are the important advantages of the present work.
