Abstract
The annual production of wastewater from the olive table industry poses a serious problem owing to its high organic matter load, which is highly concentrated in phenolic compounds (PCs) and inorganic materials. This research used adsorption to recover PCs from table olive wastewater (TOWW). Activated carbon was employed as a novel adsorbent. The activated carbon was obtained from olive pomace (OP) and activated using a chemical agent (ZnCl2). Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analysis (FTIR), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller analysis (BET), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) were applied to characterize the activated carbon sample. To optimize the biosorption conditions of PCs (adsorbent dose (A), temperature (B), and time (C)), a central composite design (CCD) model was used. An adsorption capacity was 1952.34 mg g-1 for optimal conditions with an activated carbon dose of 0.569 g L-1, a temperature of 39 °C, and a contact time of 239 min. The pseudo-second-order and Langmuir models as kinetic and isothermal mathematical models were proved to be more appropriate for the interpretation of the adsorption phenomenon of PCs. PC recovery was performed in fixed-bed reactors. The results of the adsorption of PCs from TOWW by activated carbon could be an effective process at a low cost.

Abstract
Water contamination by pesticides is increasing dramatically due to population growth and the extensive use of pesticides in agriculture, leading to grave environmental and health concerns. Thus, efficient processes and the design and development of effective treatment technologies are required due to the enormous demand for fresh water. The adsorption approach has been widely used to remove organic contaminants such as pesticides because of its performance, less expense, high selectivity, and simplicity of operation compared to other treatment technologies. Among alternative adsorbents, biomaterials abundantly available for pesticide sorption from water resources have attracted the attention of researchers worldwide. The main objective of this review article is to (i) present studies on a wide range of raw or chemically modified biomaterials potentially effective in removing pesticides from aqueous media; (ii) indicating the effectiveness of biosorbents as green and low-cost materials for removing pesticides from wastewater; and (iii) furthermore, report the application of response surface methodology (RSM) for modeling and optimizing adsorption.

Abstract
In this paper, Cellana tramoserica (CT) shells were modified by copper and used as an adsorbent to remove thiabendazole (TBZ) from aqueous media. The removal efficiency of TBZ onto CT shells and modified Cellana tramoserica (CT-Cu) shells was investigated by considering the following parameters: initial pesticide concentration, solution pH, agitation time, temperature, and adsorbent mass. The experimental results show that the pseudo-first-order and Langmuir models well describe the adsorption process. The maximum adsorption amount for CT and CT-Cu is 319.68 mg/g and 376.12 mg/g, respectively. CT-Cu showed higher TBZ removal efficiency than CT, explained by the ligand exchange between the water and the pesticide molecules in the metal coordination sphere. Response surface methodology combined with central composite design (RSM-CCD) was used to optimize the adsorption conditions. Optimized values were obtained at 5 for pH, 50 ppm, 120 min, and 20 mg of CT-Cu adsorbent. Under these optimal conditions, 91% of TBZ was removed by adsorption onto CT-Cu. Graphical abstract.

Abstract
Rice husk is an agricultural biomass waste. Burning rice husks in an oxygenic atmosphere releases thermal energy and produces ash that is rich in silica. Rice husk ash (RHA) can be used as a sustainable source of silica for producing high-value-added products. In this study, mesostructural graphene oxide (GO)/SBA-15, a graphene-based hybrid material, was synthesized from RHA. The materials are inspected by Fourier transform infrared spectrometer, Raman spectrometer, field-emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, surface area analyzer, and X-ray diffraction analyzer. Studies have revealed that GO/SBA-15 possesses various oxygen functional groups that are helpful for dye adsorption. The material consisted of high pore volume of 0.901 cm3/g, wide pores of diameter 11.67 nm, and high surface area of 499 m2/g. Analysis of the methylene blue (MB) adsorption behavior of GO/SBA-15 composites revealed that their adsorption capacity depended on the gelation pH, GO content, adsorbent dosage, and initial dye (MB) concentration. The highest adsorption capacity of GO/SBA-15 was 632.9 mg/g. Furthermore, the adsorption isotherms and kinetics of GO/SBA-15 were investigated. This study demonstrated the great advantage of treated RHA and the potential of this material for use in organic dye adsorption.

Abstract
With the increase of industrialization, there is an urgent need for developing technologies to detect and remove toxic pollutants from water bodies. The pollutants are often released to the environment due to the consumption of raw materials that are necessary for the production of technological goods (such as chemical and pharmaceutical compounds, metals, and alloys or foods). Amongst all the remediation techniques, adsorption is considered as one of the preferred techniques, due to its fast and efficient removal of contaminants. Novel materials, which are engineered for selective and responsive water remediation, have also recently revealed a strong potential in the detection of pollutants. Here, current trends of silica-graphene (SG) porous composites for the removal of oils, organic solvents, heavy metals, and dyes are reviewed in detail. Insights on the modifications of composites to enhance their sorption performance have been highlighted. In addition, the detection of pollutants using porous SG nanocomposites is also critically reviewed. Overall, SG composites reveal a strong potential as nanostructure materials with improved efficiency for environmental-based applications.
