Abstract
Background This cross-sectional study aims to explore the interactive effects of the Composite Dietary Antioxidant Index (CDAI) and Body Mass Index (BMI) on stroke risk among U.S. adults, utilizing data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) conducted between 2001 and 2018. Methods The analysis involved 42,042 participants from a representative sample of non-institutionalized U.S. civilians, selected through a stratified, multistage probability sampling method. Dietary intake data were collected over two 24-h periods using the Automated Multiple-Pass Method. The study calculated a modified CDAI to assess dietary antioxidant intake, excluding supplements and water sources. Statistical methods included multivariable logistic regression and Generalized Additive Models (GAM) to evaluate the interaction between CDAI scores and BMI in relation to stroke risk, adjusting for a wide range of demographic, lifestyle, and health covariates. Results The research identified a significant interaction between CDAI scores and BMI categories in stroke risk assessment. While a negative correlation was observed between CDAI scores and stroke risk across the total population (OR 0.97, 95% CI 0.96-0.99), this relationship varied notably across different BMI groups. In participants with a BMI ≥25, a statistically significant negative association persisted, displaying a non-linear pattern. The study also revealed an inflection point in the CDAI score, indicating a shift in the relationship between dietary antioxidants and stroke risk. Conclusion This study underscores the complex interaction between dietary antioxidant intake and BMI in determining stroke risk among U.S. adults. The findings suggest that individuals with higher BMI may experience more pronounced benefits from dietary antioxidants in stroke prevention. These insights could inform targeted dietary recommendations and public health strategies aimed at reducing stroke risk, particularly in populations with higher BMI. Further research is needed to fully understand these interactions and their implications for stroke prevention guidelines.

Abstract
Background The incidence of acute ischemic stroke caused by large vessel occlusion is relatively infrequent in the young adult population. We sought to evaluate their clinical outcomes after endovascular treatment (EVT) and stroke etiology compared with older patients. Methods We examined data from the ANGEL-ACT registry, a nationwide study in China focusing on EVT for acute ischemic stroke. We compared two age groups: <50 years old and ≥50 years old. Our analysis focused on outcome measures such as the 90-day modified Rankin Scale (mRS) score, mortality, and symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (sICH). We adjusted for confounding variables. Results We included 1,691 patients, and 216 patients (13%) were <50 years old. Young patients had lower median National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) scores (14 vs. 17, P < 0.001) and fewer cardiovascular comorbidities than older patients. Underlying intracranial atherosclerosis disease (ICAD) was higher in young patients (39.4 vs. 28.7%, P = 0.001). Clinical outcome was less favorable in older compared to younger patients (mRS shift: 0.76 [95% confidence interval (CI), 0.58-0.99]); functional independence [mRS score 0-2] 61% vs. 39% (adjusted odds ratio (OR), 0.7 [95% CI, 0.51-0.97]). Mortality and sICH did not differ between groups. Onset to puncture time (OTP) was longer in young patients (357 min vs. 294 min, P = 0.001). Conclusion An estimated 13% of patients who underwent endovascular thrombectomy for acute ischemic stroke were <50 years old. Symptomatic underlying ICAD was more prevalent in the younger patient population. Despite a prehospital delay, younger patients exhibited more favorable outcomes than their older counterparts.

Abstract
Stroke in young adults has catastrophic consequences and has increased in prevalence, contrary to the trends of most other diseases. This study aimed to determine the major characteristics and risk factors for stroke in younger adults compared with older adults. From the Korean Stroke Cohort for Functioning and Rehabilitation, 10,584 patients with first-ever stroke between August 2012 and March 2015 were enrolled retrospectively and divided into younger (age ≤ 45) and older groups (age > 45). The clinical characteristics and risk factors of stroke were compared between the younger and older groups. The younger group comprised 915 patients (8.6%). The proportion of hemorrhage strokes in the younger group (42.3%) was significantly higher than in the older group (20.0%) (p < 0.001). Obesity, current smoking, and heavy alcohol consumption were significantly more common risk factors in the younger group than in the older group for all stroke types, whereas hypertension, diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidemia, atrial fibrillation, and coronary heart disease were significantly more frequent in the older group (both p < 0.001). The major risk factors in the younger group may be lifestyle-related. Therefore, increasing awareness of lifestyle-related risk factors may be necessary to prevent stroke in young adults.

Abstract
The male sex has been suggested to predominate in paediatric patients with arterial ischemic stroke (AIS), especially in newborns. The explanation for this phenomenon remains unsatisfactory since it focuses on the analysis of the potential relationship with trauma and arterial dissection. In turn, in some populations of young adults, men suffer from AIS more frequently than women, which may be related to the protective role of oestrogen. On the other hand, certain data indicate that women dominate over men. Some of the disparities in the frequencies of particular symptoms of AIS and poststroke consequences in both children and young adults have been suggested; however, data are scarce. Unfortunately, the low number of studies on the subject does not allow certain conclusions to be drawn. For adults, more data are available for patients aged over 60 years, the results of which are more obvious. The present literature review aimed to discuss available data on the prevalence of AIS, its clinical presentations, and poststroke consequences in regard to the sex of young patients. We considered young patients to be children from birth up to the age of 19 years of life and young adults to be individuals up to the age of 55 years. The role of sex hormones in AIS and possible gender differences in genetic risk factors for AIS were also discussed briefly.

Analysis of the Relationship between Adult Asthma and Stroke: A Longitudinal Follow-Up Study Using the Korean National Sample Cohort. BIOMED RESEARCH INTERNATIONAL 2019; 2019:8919230. Abstract
Several previous studies demonstrated the risk of stroke in asthma patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the risk of hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke in asthma patients, independent of age, sex, income, region of residence, and past medical histories. The Korean Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service-National Sample Cohort from 2002 through 2013 was used. Overall, 111,364 asthma patients ≥ 20 years old were matched to 111,364 control participants for age, sex, income, region of residence, hypertension, diabetes, and dyslipidemia. Asthma was classified using ICD-10 codes (J45 and J46) and medication history. The admission histories were investigated for hemorrhagic stroke (I60-I62) and ischemic stroke (I63) using ICD-10 codes. The crude and adjusted (age, sex, income, region of residence, hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia, ischemic heart disease, and depression) hazard ratios (HRs) for hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke in asthma patients were analyzed using a Cox proportional hazards model. Subgroup analyses were conducted according to age and sex. Hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke were found in 0.7% (795/117,364) and 2.4% (922/117,364) of the asthma group and in 0.8% (922/117,364) and 2.6% (93,079/117,364) of the control group, respectively. The asthma group demonstrated adjusted HRs of 0.86 (95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.78-0.94, p = 0.002) for hemorrhagic stroke and 0.91 (95% CI = 0.86-0.95, p = 0.002) for ischemic stroke. None of the subgroups of asthma patients showed higher HRs for stroke. Asthma did not elevate the risk of either hemorrhagic or ischemic stroke.
