A Psychoeducational School-Based Group Intervention for Socially Anxious Children

The science of child and adolescent mental health in Greece: a nationwide systematic review

Evidence-based information is essential for effective mental health care, yet the extent and accessibility of the scientific literature are critical barriers for professionals and policymakers. To map the necessities and make validated resources accessible, we undertook a systematic review of scientific evidence on child and adolescent mental health in Greece encompassing three research topics: prevalence estimates, assessment instruments, and interventions. We searched Pubmed, Web of Science, PsycINFO, Google Scholar, and IATPOTEK from inception to December 16th, 2021. We included studies assessing the prevalence of conditions, reporting data on assessment tools, and experimental interventions. For each area, manuals informed data extraction and the methodological quality were ascertained using validated tools. This review was registered in protocols.io [68583]. We included 104 studies reporting 533 prevalence estimates, 223 studies informing data on 261 assessment instruments, and 34 intervention studies. We report the prevalence of conditions according to regions within the country. A repository of locally validated instruments and their psychometrics was compiled. An overview of interventions provided data on their effectiveness. The outcomes are made available in an interactive resource online [ https://rpubs.com/camhi/sysrev_table ]. Scientific evidence on child and adolescent mental health in Greece has now been cataloged and appraised. This timely and accessible compendium of up-to-date evidence offers valuable resources for clinical practice and policymaking in Greece and may encourage similar assessments in other countries.

Acceptability and Feasibility of the ProLiSMental Psychoeducational Intervention to Promote Adolescents' Mental Health Literacy on Anxiety in a School Context

The ProLiSMental psychoeducational intervention intends to promote adolescents' mental health literacy on anxiety, facilitating their access, understanding, evaluation, and use of effective mental health information. This study aimed to assess the acceptability and feasibility of that intervention in a school context and improve its content, structure, and procedure. A convenience sample of seventeen participants has been recruited: eleven students (mean age = 14.09 years, SD = 0,30) and six education and health professionals (mean age = 53.00 years, SD = 4,05). High levels of acceptability and feasibility of the ProLiSMental psychoeducational intervention were observed and important improvements were made.

The Effectiveness of Psychoeducational Interventions in Adolescents’ Anxiety: A Systematic Review Protocol

The COVID-19 pandemic had a strong impact on increasing anxiety in adolescents. This systematic review aims to identify the most effective psychoeducational interventions for reducing anxiety in adolescents following the guidelines of the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI). The inclusion and exclusion criteria have been defined, and the search strategy has been planned. The search strategy will aim to locate both published and unpublished studies using, among other databases: CINAHL Plus with Full Text; PubMed; the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials; and the JBI Database of Systematic Reviews. Following the search, all identified citations will be collated and uploaded into Endnote, and duplicates removed. Titles and abstracts will then be screened by two independent reviewers and by a third reviewer if a disagreement occurs. The results of the search will be reported in full in the final systematic review and presented in the PRISMA flow diagram. Eligible studies will be critically appraised for methodological quality using standardized critical appraisal instruments from the JBI. Data will be extracted from the studies included using the standardized JBI data extraction tool. For data synthesis, studies will be pooled using JBI SUMARI. The GRADE approach for grading the certainty of evidence will be followed, and a summary of findings will be created using GRADEPro GDT software. The results from this systematic review are expected to provide an overview of the most effective psychoeducational interventions for reducing anxiety in adolescents, allowing researchers to design and propose a new multicomponent psychoeducational intervention that will be validated and tested in the future. Therapeutic Factors in Adolescents' Groups With and Without Movies

The study explores the therapeutic factors in two types of group interventions--film therapy (n = 69) and affective support therapy (n = 48) for Arab adolescents (ages 13-14) in Israel. Film therapy is a relatively new method for groups, aimed at enhancing adolescents' engagement in the process of group counseling. Six-hundred students from 11 schools were screened for the level of parent-adolescent conflict, based on a self-report measure. The 117 students who met the cutoff point constituted our sample. They were randomly divided into 12 small groups (6 in each type of intervention). A previous study reported the outcomes of these two interventions, showing equal progress in both groups (compared to control). The current study explores process variables, specifically therapeutic factors, in an attempt to enhance our understanding of those outcomes. Results indicated common therapeutic factors across both types of intervention. The factors of relationship-climate and other- versus self-focus were ranked the highest and, contrary to expectations, were significantly higher in affective support therapy than in film therapy.
