Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between serum level of hemoglobin and neurological outcomes following cardiac arrest. Relevant studies were identified by searching electronic databases including PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and Embase from June 2012 through April 2023. Articles were rigorously reviewed for their study inclusion and exclusion criteria. Pooled effect date was determined using the standardized mean difference (SMD) and 95% confidence intervals (CI). The Newcastle-Ottawa Scale was used to evaluate study quality. Subgroup analyses were conducted to determine confounding factors affecting patient outcomes. Study heterogeneity, sensitivity, and publication bias were also determined.This meta-analysis included 11 studies involving 2519 patients. Our results suggest that high serum level of hemoglobin may improve neurological prognosis(SMD = 0.60, 95%CI = 0.49-0.71, I2 = 10.85). The findings of this study indicate that serum level of hemoglobin may be associated with better neurological prognosis, perhaps an appropriate increase in serum haemoglobin levels can improve the neurological prognosis of patients in cardiac arrest.

Abstract
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a medical emergency with high morbidity and mortality. Motor, memory, and emotion-related deficits are common symptoms following TBI, yet treatment is very limited. To develop new drugs and find new therapeutic avenues, a wide variety of TBI models have been established to mimic the heterogeneity of TBI. In this regard, along with histologic measures, behavioral functional outcomes provide valuable insight into the underlying neuropathology and guide neurorehabilitation efforts for neuropsychiatric impairment after TBI. Development, characterization, and application of behavioral tests that can assess functional neurologic deficits are essential to the development of translational therapies. This comprehensive review aims to summarize 19 common behavioral tests from three aspects (motor, memory, and emotion-related) that are associated with TBI pathology. Discussion covers the apparatus, the test steps, the evaluation indexes, data collection and analysis, animal performance and applications, advantages and disadvantages as well as precautions to eliminate bias wherever possible. We discussed recent studies on TBI-related preconditioning, biomarkers, and optimized behavioral protocols. The neuropsychologic tests employed in clinics were correlated with those used in mouse TBI models. In summary, this review provides a comprehensive, up-to-date reference for TBI researchers to choose the right neurobehavioral protocol according to the research objectives of their translational investigation.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To evaluate the incidence of anemia in patients with abusive head trauma (AHT), noninflicted traumatic brain injury (TBI), and physical abuse without AHT and the effect of anemia on outcome. STUDY DESIGN In a retrospective, single-center cohort study, we included children under the age of 3 years diagnosed with either AHT (n = 75), noninflicted TBI (n = 77), or physical abuse without AHT (n = 60) between January 1, 2014, and December 31, 2016. Neuroimaging was prospectively analyzed by pediatric neuroradiologists. Primary outcome was anemia at hospital presentation. Secondary outcomes included unfavorable outcome at hospital discharge, defined as a Glasgow Outcome Scale between 1 and 3, and intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) volume. RESULTS Patients with AHT had a higher rate of anemia on presentation (47.3%) vs noninflicted TBI (15.6%) and physical abuse without AHT (10%) (P < .001). Patients with AHT had larger ICH volumes (33.3 mL [10.1-76.4 mL] vs 1.5 mL [0.6-5.2 mL] ; P < .001) and greater ICH/total brain volume percentages than patients with noninflicted TBI (4.6% [1.4-8.2 %] vs 0.2% [0.1-0.7%]; P < .001). Anemia was associated with AHT (OR, 4.7; 95% CI, 2.2-10.2) and larger ICH/total brain volume percentage (OR, 1.1; 95% CI, 1.1-1.2) in univariate analysis. Unfavorable outcome at hospital discharge was associated with anemia (OR, 4.4; 95% CI, 1.6-12.6) in univariate analysis, but not after controlling for covariates. CONCLUSIONS Patients with AHT were more likely to present to the hospital with anemia and increased traumatic ICH volume than patients with noninflicted TBI or physical abuse without AHT. Children with anemia and AHT may be at increased risk for an unfavorable outcome.

Abstract
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in the United States, with advanced age being one of the major predictors of poor prognosis. To replicate the mechanisms and multifaceted complexities of human TBI and develop prospective therapeutic treatments, various TBI animal models have been developed. These models have been essential in furthering our understanding of the pathophysiology and biochemical effects on brain mechanisms following TBI. Despite these advances, translating preclinical results to clinical application, particularly in elderly individuals, continues to be challenging. This review aims to provide a clinical perspective, identifying relevant variables currently not replicated in TBI animal models, to potentially improve translation to clinical practice, especially as it applies to elderly populations. As background for this clinical perspective, we reviewed articles indexed on PubMed from 1970 to 2019 that used aged animal models for studying TBI. These studies examined end points relevant for clinical translation, such as neurocognitive effects, sensorimotor behavior, physiological mechanisms, and efficacy of neuroprotective therapies. However, compared with the higher incidence of TBI in older individuals, animal studies on the basic science of aging and TBI remain remarkably scarce. Moreover, a fundamental disconnect remains between experiments in animal models of TBI and successful translation of findings for treating the older TBI population. In this article, we aim to provide a clinical perspective on the unique attributes of TBI in older individuals and a critical appraisal of the research to date on TBI in aged animal models as well as recommendations for future studies.
