Abstract
Spinal meningiomas comprise 25%-46% of all primary spinal tumors. While the majority are benign and slow-growing, when left untreated, they can result in significant neurological decline. Emerging clinical, imaging, and molecular data have begun to reveal spinal meningiomas as distinct tumor subtypes compared to their intracranial counterparts. Moreover, recent studies indicate molecular and genetic subtype heterogeneity of spinal meningiomas both within and across the classically defined WHO grades. In the current review, we focus on recent advances highlighting the epidemiological, pathological, molecular/genetic, and clinical characteristics of spinal meningiomas. Furthermore, we explore patient and tumor-specific factors that predict prognosis and postoperative outcomes. We highlight areas that require further investigation, specifically efforts aimed at linking unique molecular, genetic, and imaging characteristics to distinct clinical presentations to better predict and manage patient outcomes.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Nonmalignant meningioma (NM) is the most common brain tumor in the United States (U.S.), accounting for 54% of nonmalignant brain tumors. This study aims to investigate the causes of death in NM patients and their possible associations with demographic factors. METHODS Using the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database, we analyzed 116,430 NM patients diagnosed between the years 2004 and 2018. RESULTS A total of 31,640 deaths were observed. Non-tumor diseases accounted for 63.9% of all deaths. Out of these non-tumor deaths, we found that the most common causes were heart disease (18.7% of deaths), cerebrovascular disease (7.4% of deaths), and Alzheimer disease (4.5% of deaths). On the other hand, cancer was responsible for 27.4% of deaths, while in situ and benign tumor deaths accounted for only 8.7%. CONCLUSIONS This is the first U.S. population-based study to investigate the causes of death in NM patients. We found that non-tumor diseases accounted for the majority of deaths. The risks of mortality caused by heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, diabetes, and Alzheimer disease were significantly elevated. These data can help improve survival outcomes for NM patients, particularly if adjusted by demographic risk factors.

Abstract
Purpose Tru-cut biopsy is a minimally invasive technique used to obtain tissue samples for the diagnosis of tumors, especially in patients where primary surgery is not indicated. The aim of this study was to assess the adequacy, accuracy and safety of the tru-cut biopsy for diagnosis in gynecological cancer. Methods A retrospective population-based review of 328 biopsies was conducted. The indications for tru-cut biopsies were diagnosis of primary tumors, metastases of gynecological and non-gynecological tumors, and suspected recurrences. A tissue sample was considered adequate when the quality/quality was sufficient to identify the subtype/origin of the tumor. Potential factors affecting adequacy were analyzed using logistic regressions analyses. Accuracy was defined as agreement between the diagnosis of the tru-cut biopsy and the postoperative histology. The therapy plan was registered, and the clinical applicability of the tru-cut biopsy was investigated. Complications within 30 days after the biopsy procedure were registered. Results In total, 300 biopsies were identified as tru-cut biopsies. The overall adequacy was 86.3%, varying between 80.8% and 93.5%, respectively, when performed by a gynecological oncologist or a gynecologist with a subspecialty in ultrasound diagnosis. Sampling of a pelvic mass had a lower adequacy (81.6%) compared with sampling of the omentum (93.9%) or carcinomatosis (91.5%). The accuracy was 97.5%, and the complication rate was 1.3%. Conclusion The tru-cut biopsy is a safe and reliable diagnostic method with a high accuracy and a good adequacy, depending on the site of the tissue sample, indications for the biopsy and the experience of the operator.

Abstract
This narrative review highlights current evidence linking greater body fatness to risk of various cancers, with focus on evidence from recent large cohort studies and pooled analyses of cohort studies as well as Mendelian randomization studies (which utilized genetic variants associated with body mass index to debrief the causal effect of higher body fatness on cancer risk). This review also provides insights into the biological mechanisms underpinning the associations. Data from both observational and Mendelian randomization studies support the associations of higher body mass index with increased risk of many cancers with the strongest evidence for digestive system cancers, including esophageal, stomach, colorectal, liver, gallbladder, and pancreatic cancer, as well as kidney, endometrial, and ovarian (weak association) cancer. Evidence from observational studies suggests that greater body fatness has contrasting effects on breast cancer risk depending on menopausal status and on prostate cancer risk depending on disease stage. Experimental and Mendelian randomization studies indicate that adiponectin, insulin, and sex hormone pathways play an important role in mediating the link between body fatness and cancer risk. The possible role of specific factors and pathways, such as other adipocytokines and hormones and the gut microbiome in mediating the associations between greater body fatness and cancer risk is yet uncertain and needs investigation in future studies. With rising prevalence of overweight and obesity worldwide, the proportion of cancer caused by excess body fatness is expected to increase. There is thus an urgent need to identify efficient ways at the individual and societal level to improve diet and physical activity patterns to reduce the burden of obesity and accompanying comorbidities, including cancer.
