Abstract
PURPOSE Adults with acquired communication disorders are particularly vulnerable to potential negative effects from the changes that arose during the COVID-19 pandemic. In this longitudinal study, we asked: How did the self-perceived impacts of the pandemic on adults with acquired communication disorders change over time? METHOD We developed an online survey to investigate changes in day-to-day behaviours, psychosocial elements, and communication abilities among members of a community-based stroke recovery centre in the USA. Participants included adults with aphasia or other cognitive-communication disorder from stroke or brain injury. We compared survey responses from summer 2020 (n = 50) and summer 2021 (n = 24) using a concurrent mixed methods design. RESULT The impacts of the pandemic changed over time. By 2021, participants reported a more "normal" amount of time spent on in-person socialising and healthcare, improved quality of life and connectedness to others, and an improvement in overall communication ability. Across both years, participants shared comments regarding changes in routine, increased use of technology, and the positive benefit of therapy groups. CONCLUSION Self-perceived psychosocial elements and communication abilities among stroke and other brain injury survivors changed over the course of the pandemic. Clinicians and researchers should continue providing this population with support and opportunities for engagement.

Abstract
PURPOSE To identify acute predictors of both generic and specific health-related quality of life (HRQoL) 3 months after stroke in individuals from a middle-income country. MATERIALS AND METHODS A 3-month prospective study with individuals who had suffered their first stroke, without previous disability, discharged from a stroke unit. The dependent outcomes, assessed 3 months after stroke, were generic and specific HRQoL (SF-36 and SSQOL total scores, respectively). The predictors assessed in the stroke unit were age, sex, education level, duration of hospital stay, current living arrangement, stroke severity (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale-NIHSS), functional independence (Modified Barthel Index-MBI), motor impairment (Fugl-Meyer Assessment), and lower- and upper-limb residual muscle strength deficits. Linear multiple regression analyses were employed to identify predictors of both generic (model-1) and specific (model-2) HRQoL (α = 5%). RESULTS One hundred twenty-six individuals were assessed at 3-month post-stroke (61.3 ± 13.6 years). Regression analysis showed that functional independence was the best predictor of both generic (R2 = 21%; F = 34.82; p < 0.001) and specific (R2 = 29%; F = 51.71; p < 0.001) HRQoL at 3-month post-stroke. CONCLUSION Both generic and specific HRQoL at 3-month post-stroke can be predicted by functional independence assessed in the acute phase with the MBI.

Abstract
The Covid-19 pandemic, announced by the World Health Organization on 11 March 2020 as universal, brought about drastic sanitary measures all along with a thorough lockdown in spring 2020. People’s daily life was affected and ostensible behavioral changes were noticed. The objective of this research is to diagnose the impact of the pandemic on university students (ENSA Fez), how the lockdown affected their lifestyle, their education (distant learning, connectivity problems, withdrawal from course attendance), and mental/physical health deterioration (stress, anxiety, depression, sleep disorders, lack of physical activity). To attain our objective, we resorted to a survey of 250 engineering students from École Nationale des Sciences Appliquées - Fez (ENSAF) who testified on changes in manners, mental/physical health, and emergency remote education–related problems. Data were statistically analyzed, and the results revealed regressions in physical activity and frequently disrupted bedtimes. We concluded that most engineering apprentices suffered from psychological stressors and endured physical health disorders that affected their lifestyle and well-being, all of which have negatively affected their competence and performance. Consequently, our recommendations are related to providing coaches to assess students suffering from health disorders, using innovative teaching methods to increase the motivation and engagement among students via online platforms and affording technical assistance.

Abstract
ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Stroke survivors (SS) may experience alterations in physical and cognitive processes that increase stress and reduce well-being. Timely and accurate measurement of stress throughout the continuum of recovery is necessary to inform targeted interventions that will improve quality of life for this group. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to describe the utilization of the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) during recovery in SS. METHODS: A comprehensive literature search was conducted using CINAHL, PsycINFO, PubMed, and Scopus databases. Studies were included if they captured primary data collection using any version of the PSS at any time point in the poststroke recovery period and were published in English between 2011 and 2022. Systematic reviews and meta-analyses were excluded. Evidence was synthesized, and themes were discussed. RESULTS: Among 397 studies, a total of 13 met inclusion criteria. Of these, 8 were cross-sectional studies, 3 were longitudinal studies, 1 was a randomized controlled trial, and the remaining study was a prospective nonrandomized trial. The PSS-10 (n = 7, 54%) was the most used version of the instrument, followed by the PSS-14 (n = 3, 23%) and PSS-4 (n = 2, 15.4%), with the modified PSS-10 being used in only 1 (7.6%) study. The PSS surveys were administered at various time points, ranging from the first day of admission to 3, 6, 9, or 12 months after discharge. Perceived stress may continue to negatively influence SS's psychological and physical well-being throughout the chronic phase of recovery. CONCLUSIONS: Stress is a unique and individualized experience that influences recovery trajectories in SS, an experience often overlooked or marginalized by clinicians and healthcare providers. To help mobilize strategies to achieve long-term health and wellness goals, future studies should explore and tailor interventions to minimize the influence of stress, as identified by the PSS, on well-being and quality of life during poststroke recovery.

Abstract
PURPOSE To compare quality of life (QOL) of individuals with stroke three months after hospital discharge, using generic and specific QOL measures, before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS Individuals, who were admitted to a public hospital, were recruited and evaluated before (G1) and during (G2) the COVID-19 pandemic. The groups were matched for age, sex, socio-economic status, and levels of stroke severity (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) and functional dependence (Modified Barthel Index). After three months of hospital discharge, they were evaluated and compared using generic (Short-form Health Survey 36: SF-36) and specific (Stroke Specific Quality of Life: SSQOL) QOL measures. RESULTS Seventy individuals were included (35 in each group). Statistically significant between-group differences were found for both total SF-36 (p=0.008) and SSQOL (p=0.001) scores, indicating that individuals reported worse QOL during the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, G2 also reported worse generic QOL related to the SF-36 domains of physical functioning, bodily pain, general health perception, and emotional role limitations (p < 0.01) and worse specific QOL related to following SSQOL domains: Family roles, mobility, mood, personality, and social roles (p < 0.05). Finally, G2 reported better QOL related to energy and thinking (p < 0.05) SSQOL domains. CONCLUSION In general, individuals with stroke, who were evaluated during the COVID-19 pandemic three months after hospital discharge, reported worse perceptions of QOL in several domains of both generic and specific QOL measures.

Abstract
Healthcare workers worldwide have been exposed to extraordinary stress during COVID-19 pandemic. This study aimed to investigate health-related quality of life (HRQoL) level and its health and occupational associated factors among Jordanian physicians during COVID-19 pandemic. A cross-sectional design using an online survey was adopted targeting physicians at different Jordanian hospitals. The study survey included demographics, HRQoL measured by 12-item Short Form health survey (SF-12) mental and physical components, physicians' evaluation of work conditions during COVID-19, Neck Disability Index (NDI), Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS 21), and International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ). Descriptive analyses were conducted to summarize primary data. Factors associated with HRQoL were determined using a multiple variable regression analysis. In total, 326 physicians successfully completed the survey, 44.2% were males with mean age of 32.08 (±6.93). SF-12 mental component mean was 52.13 (±20.84) and physical component mean was 69.24 (±18.1). Physicians HRQoL level was significantly associated with levels of stress (β = -0.23, 95% CI -1.05 to -0.27), depression (β = -0.22, 95% CI -1.09 to -0.28), neck disability (β = -0.30, 95% CI -1.08 to -0.57), health self-evaluation (β = 0.14, 95% CI 1.66-7.87), sleep self-evaluation (β = 0.09, 95% CI 0.16-3.58), and physical activity level (β = 0.09, 95% CI 0.00-0.001). Jordanian physicians' level of HRQoL was relatively low during COVID-19. Healthcare facilities administrators should take into consideration factors associated with physicians' HRQoL level when planning for future healthcare emergencies.
