Abstract
BACKGROUND A better characterization of educational processes during psychiatry training is needed, both to foster personal resilience and occupational proficiency. METHODS An adequate coverage of medical residents at the national level was reached (41.86% of the total reference population, 29 out of 36 training centers-80.55%). Controls were recruited among residents in other medical specialties. All participants were assessed by questionnaires to evaluate early life experiences, attachment style, personality traits, coping strategies, emotional competencies. A Structural Equation Model (SEM) framework was employed to investigate the interplay between individual factors. RESULTS A total sample of 936 people was recruited (87.9% response-rate; 645 residents in psychiatry, 291 other medical residents). Psychiatry trainees reported a higher prevalence of adverse childhood experiences (emotional abuse, emotional neglect, physical neglect), greater attachment insecurity (anxious or avoidant) in comparison to other medical trainees. Psychiatry residents also reported higher social support-seeking as a coping strategy, lower problem-orientation, and lower transcendence. Lower neuroticism, higher openness to experience, and higher emotional awareness were also observed in psychiatry trainees. Psychiatry training was associated with a redefinition of conflict management skills as a function of seniority. The SEM model provided support for an interplay between early traumatic experiences, mentalization skills (coping strategies, emotion regulation), interpersonal competencies and occupational distress. CONCLUSIONS The findings of the present study supported a theoretical model based on mentalization theory for the interactions between personal and relational competencies in psychiatry training, thus providing potential target of remodulation and redefinition of this specific process of education.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The study aim was to investigate the prevalence of behavioral symptoms and burnout in healthcare workers in an intensive neurological rehabilitation unit in Messina, Italy, during the first COVID-19 lockdown in Italy. METHODS Forty-seven healthcare workers (including neurologists, physiatrists, nurses and rehabilitation therapists) were enrolled in this cross-sectional study from February 2020 to June 2020. Participants were administered the following psychometric tests to investigate burnout and related symptoms: the Maslach Burnout Inventory, which measures emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and reduced personal accomplishment; the Zung Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS); the Pre-Sleep Arousal Scale (PSAS); the Dyadic Adjustment Scale; and the Buss-Perry Aggression Questionnaire (BPAQ). RESULTS We found several correlations between test scores and burnout subdimensions. Emotional exhaustion was correlated with SDS (r = 0.67), PSAS-Cognitive (r = 0.67) and PSAS-Somatic (r = 0.70) scores, and moderately correlated with all BPAQ dimensions (r = 0.42). Depersonalization was moderately correlated with SDS (r = 0.54), PSAS-Cognitive (r = 0.53) and PSAS-Somatic (r = 0.50) scores. CONCLUSION During the first COVID-19 lockdown in Italy, healthcare workers were more exposed to physical and mental exhaustion and burnout. Research evaluating organizational and system-level interventions to promote psychological well-being at work for healthcare workers are needed.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate whether two emotion regulation strategies, expressive suppression or cognitive reappraisal, mediated the development of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), major depression (MD), and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) in first responders (FR) who experienced occupational stressors, using cross-sectional data. An aggregate of 895 first responders (M = 37.32, SD = 12.09, 59.2% male, 91.3% Caucasian) who were recruited through professional organizations and social media sites across North and South American states participated in an online Qualtrics survey. Bivariate correlation analyses demonstrated that occupational stressors were positively correlated with expressive suppression and each mental health outcome but were not significantly correlated with cognitive reappraisal. Mediation analyses demonstrated expressive suppression as a significant mediator between occupational stressors and PTSD, MD, and GAD symptoms, but not cognitive reappraisal. Even though these findings are in purview of a cross-sectional research design, they suggest the importance of practices that bolster first responders’ ability to use more effective and adaptive emotion regulation strategies such as emotion expression, effective communication, and cognitive reappraisal that might help enhance psychological resilience.

Abstract
Background COVID-19 has become a major global health problem, and healthcare professionals are facing lot of pressure and stress. Accumulated resources and energy obtained via interpersonal relationships is called social capital, which can reduce the negative effects of pressure and stress related to the workplace by impacting happiness and moral courage. This study explored the effect of workplace social capital on moral courage and happiness in nurses working in the COVID-19 wards. Methods In this cross-sectional study, using a random sampling method, 169 nurses from three hospitals in East Mazandaran province, Iran, participated who worked in COVID-19 wards. The Onyx and Bullen Social Capital Questionnaire, the Sekerka's Moral Courage Scale, and the Oxford Happiness Inventory were used in this study. Descriptive analysis, Pearson correlation analyses, and stepwise multiple regression were performed for data analysis. Results The mean age of nurses was 31.38 ± 6.82 years. Socio-demographic factors such as age, gender, educational level, and employment status were significant predictors of workplace social capital. Social capital was positively correlated with moral courage (r = 0.29, p < 0.01) and happiness (r = 0.32, p < 0.01). In addition, social capital explained 6.8 and 8.6% variance in predicting moral courage and happiness, respectively. Conclusions Workplace social capital is a vital organizational phenomenon affecting nurses' moral courage and happiness, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, hospitals should be aware of the importance of social capital; they should ensure that all the practices and policies are in place to develop and increase it.

Abstract
Background Nursing in psychiatric wards is considered a highly stressful career due to the type of patients and the problem of communicating with them. Finding appropriate solutions to overcome this stress can improve the general health of nurses and improve their quality of work. The aim was to investigate the impact of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) on the perceived stress (PS) and psychological flexibility (PF) of nurses in psychiatric wards. Methods A total of 70 nurses of Razi Psychiatric Center of Tehran were randomly selected and divided into two experimental and control groups of 35. In addition to routine interventions, the experimental group was provided with eight 2-h sessions of ACT training, whereas the control group only received routine interventions. Prior to the intervention sessions and a month after the last session, demographic information, PS scale, and Acceptance and Action Questionnaire (2nd Edition) were completed in both groups. Results There was a significant difference regarding the PS level (P = 0.002) and PF (P = 0.001) in the control and experimental groups; the experimental group showed lower PS and higher PF. Conclusions ACT can lead to reduced PS and improved PF, which can be considered as a solution to empower nurses working in psychiatric wards. Abstract
AIM To identify, evaluate and summarize the components, factors and outcomes of nurses' occupational stress published between 2009-2019. DESIGN Integrative literature review. METHODS A literature search was conducted on PubMed, CINAHL and PsycINFO databases for articles published in English, between 2009-2019. RESULTS The review included 132 studies. Most studies were conducted in the Confucian Asia and Anglo countries, but a growing number of studies were done in other countries. Almost all studies used a quantitative design, and changes in the use of scales indicated an increasing attention to career-related components. Factors were categorized into sociodemographic, work environment and personal resources. Sociodemographic factors were inconsistent across countries. Outcomes were categorized into health status, capability, affective and behavioural responses to work, and organizational performance with generally consistent results. Model validation studies showed the non-linear or non-direct associations between stress and outcomes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Secondary traumatic stress is common for emergency nurses working in trauma care, but it is unknown whether this secondary traumatic stress negatively correlates to work productivity. OBJECTIVE The purpose of this research was to examine the relationship between secondary traumatic stress and work productivity of emergency nurses who provide trauma patient care in the emergency department. METHODS This study used a cross-sectional survey design with a systematic random sample of emergency nurses. Respondents (N = 255) completed the Impact of Events Scale-Revised (IES-R) and the Healthcare Productivity Survey (HPS) on the basis of trauma patient care within the preceding 30 days. A 2-tailed Pearson correlation was calculated to explore the relationship between secondary traumatic stress and work productivity for emergency nurses providing trauma patient care. RESULTS Mean IES-R score was 19.1, and HPS score was 2.7. About 38% of respondents reported high secondary traumatic stress, and 29% reported decreased work productivity. Although overall correlation between IES-R and HPS was not significant, IES-R-Intrusion was significantly correlated with HPS-Cognitive Demands (p = .003) and HPS-Safety and Competency (p = .011), IES-R-Avoidance with HPS-Safety and Competency (p = .003), and IES-R-Hyperarousal with HPS-Cognitive Demands (p = .002) and HPS-Handle/Manage Workload (p = .015). CONCLUSIONS Secondary traumatic stress and decreased work productivity were significant problems for some emergency nurses. To address this problem, employers can provide stress reduction and management techniques to emergency nurses providing trauma patient care. In addition, emergency nurses need to be proactive in seeking social support and using stress mitigation and reduction programs.

Abstract
AIM Workplace social capital refers to relationship networks formed by individuals in an organization through long-term mutually beneficial interactions and cooperation with members. These relationship networks can create value and resources for organizations and individuals. This current study aimed to explore the potential impact of workplace social capital on the association between perceived stress and professional identity in clinical nurses during the COVID-19 outbreak. METHODS In this cross-sectional study, 308 Chinese clinical nurses filled out the Chinese Workplace Social Capital Scale, the Chinese Perceived Stress Scale, and the Chinese Nurse's Professional Identity Scale. Descriptive analysis, independent samples t test, analysis of variance, Pearson correlation analyses, and bootstrap method were performed to analyze the data. RESULTS Perceived stress was negatively correlated with professional identity (r = -0.455, p < .001). Workplace social capital was not found to moderate the relationship between perceived stress and professional identity (95% CI -0.03 to- 0.06, p = .47 > .05). Instead, it mediated that relationship (95% CI -0.61 to -0.19, p < .05), and its mediating effect was -0.37. CONCLUSIONS In the early stages of the COVID-19 outbreak, workplace social capital among the investigated clinical nurses failed to buffer the negative impact of perceived stress on professional identity, but it did play a part in mediating perceived stress and professional identity. A healthy workplace should be provided to clinical nurses to improve their professional identity, while lowering perceived stress.

Abstract
AIM The study was conducted to assess the predictors of patient-centred care provision among nurses working in an acute care setting. We hypothesized that higher structural empowerment and compassion satisfaction and lower burnout would predict the provision of patient-centred care. BACKGROUND Patient-centred care is a crucial aspect of quality health care and the heart of nursing care. Although previous studies have highlighted some determinants of patient-centred care provision among nurses, there remains a gap in understanding the factors that predict the provision of patient-centred care. METHODS A cross-sectional predictive design was used. Through random sampling, 255 nurses were recruited from five hospitals providing acute care services in Saudi Arabia. RESULTS Multiple linear regression revealed that compassion satisfaction (β = 0.260 [95% CI: 0.201-0.645]), burnout (β = -0.266 [95% CI: -0.998 to -0.403]) and structural empowerment (β = 0.273 [95% CI: 0.462-1.427]) jointly explained significant variance (27.5%) in the provision of patient-centred care by nurses. CONCLUSIONS The study findings reveal that lower burnout, higher compassion satisfaction and structural empowerment increase nurses' provision of patient-centred care. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING MANAGEMENT Leadership and managerial strategies that not only address compassion satisfaction and burnout but also empower nurses are crucial for the provision of patient-centred care by nurses.

Abstract
Purpose. The prevention of burnout symptoms is an essential goal in occupational health promotion. Physical exercise provides health-promotion benefits. This study aimed to verify physical exercise and its planned preparation as additional predictors of employees' burnout symptoms next to job demands and resources. We used the job demands-resources model as a theoretical framework. Method. In this longitudinal online study, 342 employees completed two questionnaires at an interval of 4 weeks. Results. Moderation and moderated mediation analyses confirmed vigorous physical exercise as a relevant personal resource, revealing that it buffers the detrimental effects of job demands on burnout symptoms. Planning strategies strongly predicted physical exercise and supported the debilitating effects of job resources on burnout symptoms. Especially in employees with medium levels of job stress, coping planning supported the enactment of vigorous physical exercise. Physical exercise did not mediate the association between job demands, job resources and burnout symptoms. Conclusions. This study enriches our knowledge about occupational health prevention. It points to a pressing topic for the near future, i.e., how work conditions (e.g., job stress) and leisure time (e.g., physical exercise) can be successfully combined to keep individuals' job stress to a minimum and to prevent burnout symptoms.

Abstract
Burnout in healthcare providers has impacts at the level of the individual provider, patient, and organization. While there is a substantial body of literature on burnout in healthcare providers, burnout in pediatric nurses has received less attention. This subpopulation may be unique from adult care nurses because of the specialized nature of providing care to children who are typically seen as a vulnerable population, the high potential for empathetic engagement, and the inherent complexities in the relationships with families. Thus, the aim of this scoping review was to investigate, among pediatric nurses, (i) the prevalence and/or degree of burnout, (ii) the factors related to burnout, (iii) the outcomes of burnout, and (iv) the interventions that have been applied to prevent and/or mitigate burnout. This scoping review was performed according to the PRISMA Guidelines Scoping Review Extension. CINAHL, EMBASE, MEDLINE, PsycINFO, ASSIA, and The Cochrane Library were searched on 3 November 2018 to identify relevant quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-method studies on pediatric nurse burnout. Our search identified 78 studies for inclusion in the analysis. Across the included studies, burnout was prevalent in pediatric nurses. A number of factors were identified as impacting burnout including nurse demographics, work environment, and work attitudes. Similarly, a number of outcomes of burnout were identified including nurse retention, nurse well-being, patient safety, and patient-family satisfaction. Unfortunately, there was little evidence of effective interventions to address pediatric nurse burnout. Given the prevalence and impact of burnout on a variety of important outcomes, it is imperative that nursing schools, nursing management, healthcare organizations, and nursing professional associations work to develop and test the interventions to address key attitudinal and environmental factors that are most relevant to pediatric nurses.

Abstract
Introduction Dentists are frequently exposed to occupational stressors, including emotionally tense interactions with patients who are experiencing pain, anxiety and fear. Unsurprisingly, dentists are also a group that experience particularly high levels of occupational burnout. The present study provides the first empirical test of whether occupational burnout is higher, and general wellbeing is lower, for dental practitioners and students who have greater difficulties managing their own emotions (emotion dysregulation) and detecting and interpreting social cues from others (social cognitive difficulties).Materials and methods Ninety-six dental practitioners and 54 dental students completed validated measures of emotion regulation, social cognitive function, occupational burnout and wellbeing.Results Consistent with broader literature, rates of burnout were significantly higher in both dental practitioners and students, relative to normative standards. Importantly, the results also identified significant associations between rates of burnout with both emotion dysregulation, as well as one of the measures of social cognitive function: the empathic disposition to experience discomfort in response to the distress of others (personal distress). Ratings of emotion dysregulation and personal distress were also significantly higher for dental students relative to practitioners.Conclusion These data highlight the importance of being able to effectively manage difficult emotions in the dental practice.
