Abstract
The KIDSCREEN-10 was deemed as a cross-national instrument for measuring Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL). However, no empirical endeavor has explored its reliability and validity in the context of China. This study aims to translate and validate the Chinese version of the KIDSCREEN-10 questionnaire. The KIDSCREEN-10 was translated into Chinese (Mandarin) using a blindly bilingual forward–backward–forward technique. A cross-sectional survey, including 1,830 students aged from 8 to 18 years, was conducted in a county located in Gansu province, China. Psychometric properties were evaluated using the Rasch partial credit model, ANOVA, and the correlation analysis. Results indicated that the KIDSCREEN-10 performed good internal consistency, known-group validity, and concurrent validity, but there were still some deficiencies in psychometrics: first, disordered response categories were found between category 2 (seldom) and category 3 (sometimes); second, item 3 (“Have you felt sad?”), item 4 (“Have you felt lonely?”), and item 5 (“Have enough time for self?”) demonstrated misfit to the Rasch model; third, items 3 and 4 exhibited differential item functioning. After collapsing the disordered response categories and removing the three misfit items, the seven-item questionnaire performed good psychometric properties. However, the seven-item version does not cover the psychological well-being dimension of HRQoL, and that may lead to inappropriate measures of HRQoL. Therefore, this paper suggested to use classical test theory to investigate the psychological properties of the KIDSCREEN-10.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To link the content of the most common quality of life instruments for children with asthma to the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF). METHODS The study was conducted in two stages. The first involved a review of the literature to select quality of life questionnaires and in the second, two independent reviewers identified questionnaire items, and categories corresponding to the ICF, according to approved methodology. The degree of agreement was calculated using the kappa coefficient. RESULTS Two questionnaires were selected: the Pediatric Asthma Quality of Life (PAQLQ) and Pediatric Quality of Life Asthma Module (PedsQL-Asthma), self and proxy versions. The degree of agreement was strong for all the instruments: PAQLQ (k = 0.624), PedsQL- Asthma self (k = 0.610), and PedsQL-Asthma proxy (k = 0.673). A total of 114 concepts were identified in the 77 items. Thirty-five different ICF categories were linked, 16 (45.7%) related "body function," 13 (37.1%) "activity and participation," and 6 (17.1%) "environmental factors." Two items (1.7%) could not be linked because they represent personal factors or are not covered by the ICF. CONCLUSION The categories linked to the PAQLQ contained primarily "body function" and "activity and participation," but not "environmental factors." Those linked to the PedsQL-Asthma versions encompass three of the four ICF components, where the highest content frequency was associated with "body function," followed by "environmental factors" and "activities and participation."

Abstract
PURPOSE To explore how children with cerebral palsy (CP) experience participation in leisure activities and to describe the environmental barriers and facilitators. METHODS Sixteen children with cerebral palsy aged 7 to 17 years participated in 3 focus groups. Data were analyzed thematically by 3 researchers on the basis of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health. RESULTS A total of 38 International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health categories were identified (4 linked to Body functions; 2 linked to Body structures; 8 linked to Activities & Participation, and 24 to Environmental factors: 10 facilitators and 14 barriers). The most mentioned categories were Voluntary movement control functions, Functions related to gait pattern, Structure of upper arm, Recreation and leisure, Nuclear family and finally, and Individual attitudes of acquaintances. CONCLUSIONS The main barriers identified by children with cerebral palsy highlight aspects of the physical, social, and attitudinal environment that could be modified to enhance participation in leisure activities.

Abstract
Selecting appropriate measure(s) for clinical and/or research applications for children and youth with Cerebral Palsy (CP) poses many challenges. The newly developed International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) Core Sets for children and youth with CP serve as universal guidelines for assessment, intervention and follow-up. The aims of this study were: 1) to identify valid and reliable measures used in studies with children and youth with CP, 2) to characterize the content of each measure using the ICF Core Sets for children and youth with CP as a framework, and finally 3) to create a toolbox of psychometrically sound measures covering the content of each ICF Core Set for children and youth with CP. All clearly defined multiple-item measures used in studies with CP between 1998 and 2015 were identified. Psychometric properties were extracted when available. Construct of the measures were linked to the ICF Core Sets. Overall, 83 multiple-item measures were identified. Of these, 68 measures (80%) included reliability and validity testing. The majority of the measures were discriminative, generic and designed for school-aged children. The degree to which measures with proven psychometric properties represented the ICF Core Sets for children and youth with CP varied considerably. Finally, 25 valid and reliable measures aligned highly with the content of the ICF Core Sets, and as such, these measures are proposed as a novel ICF Core Sets-based toolbox of measures for CP. Our results will guide professionals seeking appropriate measures to meet their research and clinical needs worldwide.

Abstract
Introduction In a cross-sectional cohort study, health-related quality of life of Slovenian children and adolescents with cerebral palsy was examined, and factors associated with it have been identified. Methods Caregivers of 122 children and adolescents with cerebral palsy were addressed to fill out proxy versions of HRQoL questionnaires (DISABKIDS generic and cerebral palsy module). Children and adolescents without cognitive deficit were asked to fill out the self-report versions. Results Ninety-one families of 43 children (the mean age is 10 years, 6 months, SD 1.2; 26 males and 17 females) and 48 adolescents (the mean age is 14 years, SD 0.9; 23 males and 25 females) completed proxyreports. Forty-eight individuals were able to self-report (26 children and 22 adolescents). Health-related quality of life was perceived as good. Self-reporting participants scored higher than their caregivers (mean score 75.6, SD 15.9 versus mean 72.3, SD 17.9; p=0.048). Adolescents scored lower than children in all domains (mean score 69.4, SD 19.4 versus mean 80.8, SD 10.0; p=0.01). Higher age (p<0.001), pain (p<0.001) and disturbed sleep (p=0.002) were strong predictors of worse health-related quality of life. Social Inclusion and Independence domains received the lowest scores. Conclusions Slovenian children and adolescents with cerebral palsy have a good health-related quality of life, with Social Inclusion and Independence being the weakest domains. Children reported higher scores than adolescents or their caretakers. Pain was the strongest predictor of poor health-related quality of life.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to develop item banks by linking items from three pediatric health-related quality of life (HRQoL) instruments using a mixed methodology. Secondary data were collected from 469 parents of children aged 8-16 years. The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health-Children and Youth (ICF-CY) served as a framework to compare the concepts of items from three HRQoL instruments. The structural validity of the individual domains was examined using confirmatory factor analyses. Samejima's Graded Response Model was used to calibrate items from different instruments. The known-groups validity of each domain was examined using the status of children with special health care needs (CSHCN). Concepts represented by the items in the three instruments were linked to 24 different second-level categories of the ICF-CY. Eight item banks representing eight unidimensional domains were created based on the linkage of the concepts measured by the items of the three instruments to the ICF-CY. The HRQoL results of CSHCN in seven out of eight domains (except personality) were significantly lower compared with children without special health care needs (p<0.05). This study demonstrates a useful approach to compare the item concepts from the three instruments and to generate item banks for a pediatric population.

Abstract
The International Classification of Functioning children and youth version (ICF-CY) provides a universal framework for defining and classifying functioning and disability in children worldwide. To facilitate the application of the ICF in practice, ICF based-tools like the "ICF Core Sets" are being developed. In the context of the development of the ICF-CY Core Sets for children with Cerebral Palsy (CP), the aims of this study were as follows: to identify and compare the content of outcome measures used in studies of children with CP using the ICF-CY coding system; and to describe the most frequently addressed areas of functioning in those studies. We searched multiple databases likely to capture studies involving children with CP from January 1998 to March 2012. We included all English language articles that studied children aged 2-18 years and described an interventional or observational study. Constructs of the outcome measures identified in studies were linked to the ICF-CY by two trained professionals. We found 231 articles that described 238 outcome measures. The outcome measures contained 2193 concepts that were linked to the ICF-CY and covered 161 independent ICF-CY categories. Out of the 161 categories, 53 (33.5%) were related to body functions, 75 (46%) were related to activities/participation, 26 (16.1%) were related to environmental factors, and 7 (4.3%) were related to body structures. This systematic review provides information about content of measures that may guide researchers and clinicians in their selection of an outcome measure for use in a study and/or clinical practice with children with CP.

Abstract
This study examined the constructs underlying the Movement Assessment Battery for Children-2 (M-ABC-2), Bruninks-Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency (BOTMP) and Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scale-2 (VABS-2) using the framework of the International Classification of Functioning Disability and Health-Child Youth version (ICF-CY) and the diagnostic criteria of developmental coordination disorder (DCD). Two independent raters coded and matched items to ICF-CY codes as per the eight ICF linking rules developed by Cierza and colleagues. Content density and inter-rater reliability were also calculated. The majority of codes assigned to the M-ABC-2 and BOTMP related to body functions (54% and 64% respectively). For the VABS-2, 91% of codes pertained to activities and participation. The M-ABC-2, BOTMP, and the VABS-2 emphasize the ICF-CY constructs differently. The VABS-2 may be useful in the evaluation of performance of daily life activities and participation in children with DCD.

Abstract
PURPOSE To present a systematic literature review on the state of the art of the utilisation of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) since its release in 2001. METHOD The search was conducted through EMBASE, MEDLINE and PsychInfo covering the period between 2001 and December 2009. Papers were included if ICF was mentioned in title or abstract. Papers focussing on the ICF-CY and clinical research on children and youth only were excluded. Papers were assigned to six different groups covering the wide scenario of ICF application. RESULTS A total of 672 papers, coming from 34 countries and 211 different journals, were included in the analysis. The majority of publications (30.8%) were conceptual papers or papers reporting clinical and rehabilitation studies (25.9%). One-third of the papers were published in 2008 and 2009. CONCLUSIONS The ICF contributed to the development of research on functioning and on disability in clinical, rehabilitation as well as in several other contexts, such as disability eligibility and employment. Diffusion of ICF research and use in a great variety of fields and scientific journals is a proof that a cultural change and a new conceptualisation of functioning and disability is happening.

How do children at special schools and their parents perceive their HRQoL compared to children at open schools? Health Qual Life Outcomes 2010; 8:72. Abstract
Background There has been some debate in the past as to who should determine values for different health states for economic evaluation. The aim of this study was to compare the Health Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) in children attending open schools (OS) and children with disabilities attending a special school (SS) and their parents in Cape Town South Africa. Methods The EQ-5D-Y and a proxy version were administered to the children and their parents were requested to fill in the EQ-5D-Y proxy version without consultation with their children on the same day. Results A response rate of over 20% resulted in 567 sets of child/adult responses from OS children and 61 responses from SS children. Children with special needs reported more problems in the "Mobility" and "Looking after myself" domains but their scores with regard to "Doing usual activities", "Pain or discomfort" and "Worried, sad or unhappy" were similar to their typically developing counterparts. The mean Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) score of SS children was (88.4, SD18.3, range 40-100) which was not different to the mean score of the OS respondents (87.9, SD16.5, range 5-100). The association between adult and child scores was fair to moderate in the domains. The correlations in VAS scores between Open Schools children and female care-givers' scores significant but low (r = .33, p < .001) and insignificant between Special School children and adult (r = .16, p = .24). Discussion It would appear that children with disabilities do not perceive their HRQoL to be worse than their able bodied counterparts, although they do recognise their limitations in the domains of "Mobility" and "Doing usual activities". Conclusions This finding lends weight to the argument that valuation of health states by children affected by these health states should not be included for the purpose of economic analysis as the child's resilience might result in better values for health states and possibly a correspondingly smaller resource allocation. Conversely, if HRQoL is to be used as a clinical outcome, then it is preferable to include the children's values as proxy report does not appear to be highly correlated with the child's own perceptions.
