Abstract
A new approach for the preparation of enantioenriched α-amino phosphonates and derivatives is described. Indeed, the rhodium-catalyzed asymmetric 1,4-addition of potassium organotrifluoroborates to dehydroaminophosphonates afforded α-amino phosphonates in good yields and high enantioselectivities (up to 96%) using Difluorphos as a chiral ligand.

Abstract
Bis-C-pivot macrocycles containing dimethyl (1a, 2a) or diethyl phosphonate (1b, 2b) groups have been prepared by adding dimethyl or diethyl phosphite to two -CH=N bonds in corresponding dibenzo-bis-imino crown ethers (1 and 2). Bis-C-pivot macrocycles possess two equivalent stereogenic centres giving rise to diastereoisomers (meso and racemate). The structures were characterized by elemental analysis, FTIR, MS, TGA, DSC and NMR measurements. (1)H, (13)C and (31)P NMR assignments were made for the isolated meso form of compounds 2a and 2b and for the meso and racemic forms of compounds 1a and 1b by analysis of chemical shifts, signal intensities and splitting patterns and the DEPT and 2D HETCOR NMR techniques. Thermal analysis and (1)H NMR showed that the crystallised form of compound 1a contained an equimolar amount of water of crystallisation.

Abstract
Several fungal strains, namely Bauveria bassiana, Cuninghamella echinulata, Aspergillus fumigatus, Penicillium crustosum and Cladosporium herbarum, were used as biocatalysts to resolve racemic mixtures of 1-aminoethanephosphonic acid using L/D amino acid oxidase activity. The course of reaction was analyzed by 31P-NMR in the presence of cyclodextrin used as chiral discriminating agent. The best result (42% e.e of R-isomer) was obtained with a strain of Cuninghamella echinulata.

Abstract
240 Years have passed since the discovery of elemental phosphorus. During that time organophosphorus chemistry has emerged as an interesting and exciting field of research. Recently organophosphorus chemistry has been raised to a new level. Organophosphorus compounds have found applications in asymmetric organocatalysis for the synthesis of optically active compounds of synthetic or biological importance. The aim of this review article is to present recent contributions to this developing field of chemistry and to point out synthetic advantages of methodologies developed so far.

Abstract
An overview of all methodologies published during the last few years focused to the stereoselective (diastereoselective or enantioselective) synthesis of α-aminophosphonic acids and derivatives is reported. The procedures have been classified according a retrosynthetic strategy and taking into account the formation of each one of the bonds connected to the chiral centre.

Abstract
The reactions of dibenzo-diaza crown ethers (coronands) (1 and 2) with dimethylphosphite led to the formation of the mixture of meso and racemic C-bis-pivot lariat ethers (3 and 4) containing dimethoxyphosphoryl groups. We have failed to make the resolution of the mixture, nevertheless, the detailed characterization and spectral investigations of compounds 3 and 4 have been made by elemental analyses, FTIR, (1)H NMR, (13)C NMR, (31)P NMR, COSY, DEPT, HETCOR and HMBC spectral data. The salient features of the spectral data of these compounds have been presented.

Abstract
Mol-ecules of the title compound, C(11)H(17)O(4)P, are linked into chiral helical chains along the crystallographic b axis via O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds between the hydr-oxy group and an O atom of the phospho-nate group. One ethyl group is disordered over two positions; the site occupancy factors are ca 0.7 and 0.3.

Abstract
We have studied the phenomenon of calcium complexation by lab synthesized amphiphilic (alpha-aminoalkyl)-phosphonocarboxylic or -phosphonic acids. The electrical conductivity of aqueous solutions of sodium salts of all these acids was measured versus the volume of a calcium salt solution added. It appeared that calcium complexes are formed in a Ca/P atomic ratio close to 1. Calcium phosphonocarboxylates and calcium phosphonates were also precipitated by mixing aqueous solutions of disodium salts of phosphorus amphiphiles and calcium nitrate solutions. Before chemical analysis, these complexes were calcined to remove the organic part. In the mineralized products, calcium and phosphate were assayed: the Ca/P atomic ratio was equal to 1. X-ray diffraction and IR spectroscopy showed that they are made entirely of beta pyrophosphate (Ca2P2O7), a result in agreement with previous chemical analysis. The chemical formula of the starting calcium complexes could be written as CaL2H2O (L=ligand). The SEM micrographs of these complexes show plate-like structures. XRD patterns are characteristic of layered structures. These facts suggest that calcium complexes are composed of alternating bimolecular layers of calcium alkylphosphonocarboxylates or calcium alkylphosphonates, the chains being tilted and partially interdigitated.

Abstract
Interaction energies of phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL) active site residues with a series of PAL inhibitors have been partitioned into electrostatic, exchange, delocalization, and correlation components and compared with analogous results obtained previously for leucine aminopeptidase (LAP). In the latter metalloenzyme, either of the two charged residues controls entirely relative inhibitor binding energies, while at least four residues are required to determine ligand relative stabilization in neutral PAL. Significant correlation with experimental inhibitory activity was found between the stabilization energy at gradually decreasing levels of theory (MP2, SCF) down to the first-order Heitler-London term. Contrary to the LAP case, where the electrostatic term was sufficient to reproduce experimentally observed trends, in the case of PAL, exchange repulsion effects also have to be considered. Computational protocol presented herein constitutes a promising way to incorporate the first principle calculation's accuracy into the process of rational binding affinity prediction, revealing the physical nature of the interactions, where successive approximations can be introduced in a systematic and justifiable manner.

Abstract
Dextrorotatory 1-amino-3',4'-dichlorobenzylphosphonic acid was found to be a potent inhibitor of the plant enzyme phenylalanine ammonia-lyase both in vitro and in vivo from among the ring-substituted 1-aminobenzylphosphonic acids and other analogues of phenylglycine. A structure activity relationship analysis of the results obtained permits predictions on the geometry of the pocket of the enzyme and is a basis in the strategy of better inhibitor synthesis.

Abstract
Direct synthesis of free (alpha-hydroxyalkyl)phosphinic acid amphiphiles 1 can be readily realized by sonication of the heterogeneous mixture of 50% aqueous hypophosphorous acid and long-chain aldehydes in the presence of catalytic amounts of hydrochloric acid. Oxidation of these phosphinic acids by DMSO in the presence of catalytic amounts of iodine quantitatively leads to the corresponding phosphonic acids 3. IR spectra of the phosphinic acids 1 in the condensed phase and in solution reveal the presence of intra- and intermolecular associations. Dissociation constants of the phosphorus acids 1 and 3 determined by potentiometric and (31)P NMR titrations show a good correlation between the two methods. The phosphinic acid amphiphiles 1 are slightly stronger than the corresponding phosphonic acids 3. (alpha-Hydroxyalkyl)phosphonium chlorides are prepared in good yields from the phosphine PH(3) and long-chain aldehydes in acidic media.
