Abstract
This investigation was conducted to determine how the growth and carcass traits of meat-type sheep breeds raised in Turkey are associated with IGF1 5′UTR polymorphisms. Overall, 202 lambs from five breeds were evaluated. We identified eight nucleotide changes (seven substitutions and one deletion) in three variants of IGF1 5′UTR by SSCP analysis and nucleotide sequencing. It was found that the P1 variants had a unique deletion (g.171328230 delT), while the P2 variants were identified by SNPs rs401028781, rs422604851, and g.171328404C > Y. The P3 variants possessed one heterozygous substitution (g.171328260G > R) and three homozygous substitutions (g.171328246T > A, g.171328257T > G, g.171328265T > C) not observed in P1 or P2. Based on the growth and production traits, a statistically significant difference was found only in chest width at weaning (p < 0.01) and leg circumferences at yearling (p < 0.05). The P1 variants showed a leaner profile with a higher Musculus longissimus dorsi, but the differences were not significant (p > 0.05). The P2 variants had a higher percentage of rack (p < 0.01) and loin (p > 0.05). Moreover, there was no discernible difference between variants, even though the P3 variants had a higher percentage of neck and leg and the P1 variants had a higher percentage of the shoulder. It is concluded that nucleotide changes in IGF1 5′UTR could be exploited utilizing a marker-assisted selection technique to increase growth and production attributes, as well as carcass quality traits.

Abstract
The main purpose of the existing experiment was to assess the allelic and genotypic polymorphisms of the Growth hormone (GH) gene and its correlation with growth indices, efficiency of consumed feed, some body indices and carcass traits of the Egyptian Awassi sheep. Forty Egyptian Awassi male lambs were selected for their growing indices (post-weaning daily gain, marketing weight, and weaning weight), feed efficiency (consumed feed and of consumed feed), body conformational indicators (skeletal muscle index, relative body index, body mass index, and body index), and carcass features (dressing %, hot carcass weight, fore-legs %, neck %, loin %, ribs %, abdominal fat %, Tail % and hind-legs %). The polymerase chain reaction-restricted fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) tool was applied to detect the genotypic and allelic GH gene polymorphisms properties. The PCR-RFLP analysis identified three main genotypes (AA, AB and BB) and two main alleles (A and B). The GH genotype (AA or AB) exhibited moderate significant influence (P < 0.05) on marketing weight, Loin% and Tail%. Also, genotype (AB or BB) of expressed GH gene significantly (P < 0.01) influence on consumed feed, post-weaning daily gain, neck% and body mass index, whereas, it had no influence on the phenotypic values of the other characteristics investigated. The presence of the A allele in the genotype was markedly associated (P < 0.01) with consumed feed, body mass index and post-weaning daily growth; conversely, the presence of the B allele in the genotype was significantly related (P < 0.05) with marketing weight, loin %, and tail %. While, GH gene expression was revealed to be highly significant (P < 0.01) in relation to post-weaning daily growth, feed intake, and neck %. According to the findings, determining the associations between GH gene variation and growth, efficiency of consumed feed, body measurements, and carcass features of Egyptian Awassi sheep and applying marker assisted selection with the GH gene to improve these traits is warranted and will be of significant economic value to sheep production.

Abstract
This study explored the potential genes and economic factors that might be associated with growth and heat tolerance in two sheep breeds. Data on growth performance from the third month to six months of age were obtained based on records. In comparison to Aboudeleik lambs, Barki lambs developed considerably greater starting body weight, final body weight, final body weight gain, daily weight gain, and percentage increase in BW/month. Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were found between lambs of the two breeds using PCR-DNA sequencing of CAST, LEP, MYLK4, MEF2B, STAT5A, TRPV1, HSP90AB1, HSPB6, HSF1, ST1P1, and ATP1A1 genes. Lambs from each breed were divided into groups based on detected SNPs in genes related to growth. The least squares means of the differentiated groups revealed a significant correlation of detected SNPs with growth and heat tolerance attributes (p ≤ 0.05). Barki lambs elicited greater total variable costs, total costs, total return, and net return values. The Barki sheep provided the best economic efficiency value when comparing the percentage difference between net profit and economic efficiency. Together with economic considerations, SNPs found may be used as proxies for marker-assisted selection of the best breed of sheep for traits related to growth and heat tolerance.

Abstract
GH and DGAT1 are candidate genes associated with growth traits in sheep breeds. This study aims to determine the association between growth traits and GH and DGAT1 gene polymorphism using three statistical methods in Awassi sheep. The polymorphism was detected by the PCR-RFLP method. Three genotypes (AA, AB and BB) were observed for GH gene locus with allele and genotype frequency 0.70(A) and 0.30(B); 0.60(AA), 0.20(AB) and 0.20(BB). Three genotypes (CC, CT and TT) were found for DGAT1 gene locus with allele and genotype frequency 0.58(C) and 0.42(T); 0.47(CC), 0.23(CT) and 0.30(TT). The genes were in agreement with Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium (p > 0.05). CHAID, CRT and GLM were used to identify the association between growth traits and gene polymorphism. The results showed an association between GH locus and body weight and tail length. Also, found an association between DGAT1 locus and tail length. The three methods showed similar results in determining the association between genes and growth traits. Thus, the CHAID and CRT methods can evaluate the association between genes and growth traits.

Abstract
This study was designed to identify single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of some candidate genes related to lipid metabolism and their association with carcass fat in male crossbred lambs. Hence, 96 of almost 11-month-old Booroola Merino-Afshari crossbred lambs (first-generation backcross) were used by considering their phenotypic carcass traits. Then, DNA was extracted and DNA targets were amplified using designed specific primers by PCR procedure. Identification of potential SNPs was done by a direct sequencing method for LEP, FABP4, DGAT1, GH, and TRIB3 genes using the sequencing-RFLP procedure. Then, the most probable statistical models based on additive and genotypic effects of identified SNPs in each trait were obtained by the Bayesian model averaging (BMA) approach of R software (Ver. 3.3.1) to assess the association of SNPs with traits. Detected SNPs in this study included two SNPs in exon 3 of LEP, one SNP in exon 2 of TRIB3, one SNP in intron 2 of FABP4, one SNP in 5' UTR of DGAT1, and two SNPs in 3' UTR of GH genes. For carcass weight trait, one of the identified SNP genotypes in the LEP (c.587G > A) had a higher probability in the model. Carcass weight of lambs with GA genotype was 2.46 kg heavier than GG genotype. Also, two genes of TRIB3 and GH2 had the highest probability in the models of fat tail and waste weight, respectively. Based on the results, these polymorphisms can be used in the marker-assisted selection of breeding programs and designing DNA chips for genomic selection.

Abstract
This study was conducted to ivnestigate the associations of GH-AluI, STAT5A-AvaI and MYF5-TaqI gene polymorphisms with milk somatic cell count (SCC), electrical conductivity (EC) and pH levels in Holstein dairy cows. For this purpose, 167 blood and 1670 milk samples of 167 Holstein cows in their 2nd lactation were used. There were significant relationships between GH-AluI genotypes and milk EC (p < 0.001) and between STAT5A-AvaI genotypes and milk EC (p = 0.007), but there were not any significant relationships between MYF5 gene polymorphism and the investigated traits (p > 0.05). The greatest EC values were observed in GH-AluI-LV and STAT5A-AvaI-TT-genotyped individuals. Just because of association of EC with mastitis, it was concluded that present GH-AluI and STAT5A-AvaI polymorphisms could be used in further studies to be conducted to improve mastitis resistance and milk quality traits of Holstein dairy cows.

Abstract
Our study indicates the effects of genotypes on paunch girth. The results need to be verified on a larger number of samples. Nonetheless, our study emphasizes the efficacy of the T-ARMS PCR assay for increasing throughput. These assays will enable rapid and cost effective screening of large number of samples for association studies. The generated information can then be utilized in formulation of breeding policies for Indian sheep.
