Abstract
Hyperuricemia, a disorder of uric acid metabolism, serves as a significant risk factor for conditions such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, renal failure, and various metabolic syndromes. The main contributors to hyperuricemia include overproduction of uric acid in the liver or impaired excretion in the kidneys. Despite traditional clinical drugs being employed for its treatment, significant health concerns persist. Recently, there has been growing interest in utilizing protein peptides sourced from diverse food origins to mitigate hyperuricemia. This article provides a comprehensive review of bioactive peptides with anti-hyperuricemia properties derived from animals, plants, and their products. We specifically outline the methods for preparing these peptides from food proteins and elucidate their efficacy and mechanisms in combating hyperuricemia, supported by in vitro and in vivo evidence. Uric acid-lowering peptides offer promising prospects due to their safer profile, enhanced efficacy, and improved bioavailability. Therefore, this review underscores significant advancements and contributions in identifying peptides capable of metabolizing purine and/or uric acid, thereby alleviating hyperuricemia. Moreover, it offers a theoretical foundation for the development of functional foods incorporating uric acid-lowering peptides.

Abstract
A lipid extract was obtained from eggs of the sailfin sandfish, Arctoscopus japonicus. Immunostimulatory effects of A. japonicus lipids incorporated with PEG6000 (AJ-PEG) on immunosuppressed mice treated with cyclophosphamide (CY) were investigated. AJ-PEG was administered orally to mice at different concentrations of 25 to 100 mg/kg body weight (BW). CY was injected to mice intraperitoneally at 80 mg/kg BW. Administration of AJ-PEG significantly increased the spleen index of CY-treated mice. AJ-PEG also stimulated the proliferation of splenic lymphocytes and natural killer (NK) activity. Immune-associated cytokines such as IL-1β, IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, TNF-α, and IFN-γ as well as TLR4 were overexpressed in splenic lymphocytes. Furthermore, AJ-PEG significantly increased splenic CD4+ and CD8+ T lymphocytes. In peritoneal macrophages, AJ-PEG administration improved proliferation, nitric oxide (NO) production, and phagocytosis. It also upregulated iNOS, COX-2, IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α expression. Taken together, these results suggest that AJ-PEG can be used in animal models with immunosuppressive conditions as a potent immunomodulatory agent.

Abstract
Inflammation is the response of the immune system to harmful stimuli such as tissue injury, infection or toxic chemicals, which has the aim of eliminating irritants or pathogenic microorganisms and enhancing tissue repair. Uncontrolled long-lasting acute inflammation can gradually progress to chronic, causing a variety of chronic inflammatory diseases that are usually treated with anti-inflammatory drugs, but most of them are inadequate to control chronic responses and are also associated with adverse side effects. Thus, many efforts are being directed to develop alternative and more selective anti-inflammatory therapies from natural products. One main field of interest is the obtaining of bioactive peptides exhibiting anti-inflammatory activity from sustainable protein sources like edible insects or agroindustry and fishing by-products. This work highlighted the structure-activity relationship of anti-inflammatory peptides. Small peptides with molecular weight under 1 kDa and amino acid chain length between 2 to 20 residues are generally the most active because of the higher probability to be absorbed in the intestine and penetrate into cells when compared with the larger size peptides. The presence of hydrophobic (Val, Ile, Pro) and positively charged (His, Arg, Lys) amino acids is another common occurrence for anti-inflammatory peptides. Interestingly, a high percentage (77%) of these bioactive peptides can be found in alternative sustainable protein sources such as Tenebrio molitor or sunflower, apart from its original protein source. However, not all of these peptides with anti-inflammatory potential in vitro achieve good scores by the in silico bioactivity predictors studied. Therefore, it is essential to implement current bioinformatics tools, in order to complement in vitro experiments with prior prediction of potential bioactive peptides.

Abstract
The interest in utilizing food-derived compounds therapeutically has been rising. With the growing prevalence of systematic chronic inflammation (SCI), efforts to find treatments that do not result in the side effects of current anti-inflammatory drugs are underway. Bioactive peptides (BAPs) are a particularly promising class of compounds for the treatment of SCI, and the abundance of high-quality seafood processing byproducts (SPB) makes it a favorable material to derive anti-inflammatory BAPs. Recent research into the structural properties of anti-inflammatory BAPs has found a few key tendencies including they tend to be short and of low molecular weight (LMW), have an overall positive charge, contain hydrophobic amino acids (AAs), and be rich in radical scavenging AAs. SPB-derived anti-inflammatory BAPs have been observed to work via inhibition of the NF-κB and MAPK pathways by disrupting the phosphorylation of IκBα and one or more kinases (ERK, JNK, and p38), respectively. Radical scavenging capacity has also been shown to play a significant role in the efficacy of SPB-derived anti-inflammatory BAPs. To determine if SPB-derived BAPs can serve as an effective treatment for SCI it will be important to understand their properties and mechanisms of action, and this review highlights such findings in recent research.

Abstract
In this study, we aimed to determine the potential functional properties and biological activities of the hydrolysates of perilla seed meal (PSM), which is a by-product of perilla seed oil extraction. PSM protein was hydrolyzed independently by using five proteases, and their functional and biological properties were analyzed. PSM protein hydrolysate exhibited high solubility at most of the tested pH values, and the trypsin-treated hydrolysate exhibited the highest water and oil absorption capacity. The neutrase-treated hydrolysate was most effective in scavenging the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazine radicals, whereas the pepsin-treated hydrolysate showed the highest angiotensin I-converting enzyme inhibitory effect, and anti-inflammatory activity. Trypsin-treated hydrolysate exhibited the highest scavenging activity against of 2,2'-azinobis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid radicals with the IC50 of 109.72 µg/mL. The results of the present study suggest that the type of protease used for the treatment significantly influences the functional properties and biological activities of the resulting PSM protein hydrolysates.

Abstract
Total lipids were extracted from sandfish (Arctoscopus japonicus), and then they were separated into the following three lipid fractions: neutral lipids, glycolipids, and phospholipids. In this study, we analyzed the lipid fractions of A. japonicus eggs and we determined their anti-inflammatory activity in RAW264.7 macrophage cells. In these three lipid-fractions, the main fatty acids were as follows: palmitic acid (16:0), oleic acid (18:1n-9), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA, 22:6n-3), and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA, 20:5n-3). Among the lipid fractions, phospholipids showed the highest concentration of DHA and EPA (21.70 ± 1.92 and 18.96 ± 1.27, respectively). The three lipid fractions of A. japonicus significantly suppressed the production of NO in macrophages. Moreover, they also significantly inhibited the expression of iNOS, COX-2, IL-6, IL-1β, and TNF-α, in a dose-dependent manner. Furthermore, the lipid fractions of A. japonicus suppressed the nuclear translocation of NF-κB p65 subunits in a dose-dependent manner. In addition, they attenuated the activation of MAPKs (p38, ERK1/2, and JNK) phosphorylation in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells. These results indicate that all the lipid fractions of A. japonicus exert anti-inflammatory activity by suppressing the activation of NF-κB and MAPK pathways. Therefore, the lipid fractions of A. japonicus might be potentially used as anti-inflammatory agents.

Abstract
Arctoscopus japonicus is a cold-water marine fish. The present study investigated the fatty acid composition of A. japonicus egg lipids and their anti-inflammatory effects on LPS-stimulated RAW246.7 macrophages. The results showed that A. japonicus egg lipids contained primarily polyunsaturated fatty acids (52.9% of the total fatty acid content; mostly eicosapentaenoic acid [EPA, 21.2 ± 0.5%] and docosahexaenoic acid [DHA, 25.9 ± 0.1%]), followed by monounsaturated fatty acids and saturated fatty acids (23.7% and 23.4%, respectively). A. japonicus egg lipids significantly decreased nitric oxide (NO) production and suppressed the expression of immune-associated genes such as iNOS, COX-2, IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α LPS-stimulated RAW246.7 macrophages in dose-dependent manner. A. japonicus egg lipids also reduced the phosphorylation levels of NF-κB p-65, p38, ERK1/2, and JNK, key components of the NF-κB and MAPK pathways, suggesting that the lipid-induced anti-inflammatory activity is related to these signaling pathways. These results indicate that the lipids extracted from A. japonicus eggs have potential biofunctions and might be useful for regulating inflammation in macrophages.

Abstract
Sandfish (Arctoscopus japonicus) meat and roe were used as natural materials for the preparation of antioxidant peptides using enzymatic hydrolysis. Meat and roe were hydrolyzed using Alcalase 2.4 L and Collupulin MG, respectively. Optimal hydrolysis conditions were determined through the effects of pH, temperature, enzyme concentration, and hydrolysis time on the radical scavenging activity of 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH). The optimal hydrolysis conditions for meat hydrolysate (MHA) obtained via Alcalase 2.4 L treatment were a pH of 6.0, temperature of 70 °C, enzyme concentration of 5% (w/w), and a hydrolysis time of 3 h. The optimal hydrolysis conditions for roe hydrolysate (RHC) obtained via Collupulin MG treatment were pH 9.0, 60 °C temperature, 5% (w/w) enzyme concentration, and 1 h hydrolysis time. Under the optimal conditions, the DPPH radical scavenging activities of MHA and RHC were 60.04 and 79.65%, respectively. These results provide fundamental data for the production of antioxidant peptides derived from sandfish hydrolysates.
