Abstract
BACKGROUND Patient care ownership (PCO) among medical students is a growing area in the field of medical education. While PCO has received increasing attention, there are no instruments to assess PCO in the context of Japanese undergraduate medical education. This study aimed to translate, culturally adapt, and validate the PCO Scale - Medical students (PCOS-S) in the Japanese context. METHODS We collected survey data from fifth- and sixth-grade medical students from five different universities varying in location and type. Structural validity, convergent validity, and internal consistency reliability were examined. RESULTS Data from 122 respondents were analyzed. Factor analysis of the Japanese PCOS-S revealed three factors with Cronbach's alpha values exceeding the satisfactory criterion (0.70). A positive correlation was observed between the total Japanese PCOS-S scores and the global rating scores for the clinical department as a learning environment (Pearson's correlation coefficient = 0.61). CONCLUSIONS We conducted the translation of the PCOS-S into Japanese and assessed its psychometric properties. The Japanese version has good reliability and validity. This instrument has potential value in assessing the development of medical students' PCO.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Despite the established need to prioritize professionalism-training in developing future physicians, very few medical programs in the Gulf Region embed in their curricula discrete contextualized courses aimed at developing the corresponding competencies, while fostering self-directed learning. This study aims at exploring the perception of undergraduate medical students in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic setting regarding their understanding of, and personal experience with professionalism through their engagement with the content of an innovative curriculum-based professionalism course, offered at a Medical School in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. METHODS The study used a qualitative phenomenological research design. Out of 33 students, 29 students had submitted reflective essays. The content of these essays was inductively analyzed following a six-step framework for conducting thematic analysis. The framework's steps include familiarizing oneself with the data, generating initial codes, searching for themes, reviewing themes, defining and naming themes, and producing the report. FINDINGS The inductive qualitative analysis generated the Professionalism Learning Journey model. This conceptual model includes four interconnected themes: Awareness, Acknowledgement, Realization, and Application. The generated model depicts the trajectory that the learners appear to experience while they are engaging with the content of the course. CONCLUSION Integrating a professionalism-training course into an undergraduate medical curriculum is likely to be positively appraised by the learners. It raises their awareness, enables them to value the subject matter and the sophistication of its application, and empowers them to put into practice the taught principles, on an individual basis and collectively. This is especially true when the course is entrenched in constructivism experiential learning theory and designed to foster self-directed learning. The introduced conceptual model, in conjunction with the innovative professionalism-training course curriculum, can serve as a template for other competencies and other schools.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Professionalism is one of the fundamental traits which includes behaviors, commitments, standards, and goals that helps define a profession. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to assess the attitude of dental students and graduates regarding the practice of professionalism in dentistry using the Professionalism Mini Evaluation Exercise (P-MEX) questionnaire. METHOD This cross-sectional study was conducted amongst the dental undergraduates, lecturers and postgraduate faculty. Views regarding professionalism were assessed using the P-MEX. The 24-questions based survey form is comprised of questions related to doctor and patient relationship skills, reflective abilities, time management, and lastly, interprofessional relationship expertise. Data was analyzed using SPSS version 23. Descriptive statistics were done using mean and SD, whilst associations between responses were assessed using Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal-Wallis tests. P value less than 0.05 was considered significant. RESULTS From a total of 201 participants, 95 (47.3%) were males and 106 (52.7%) were females. Statistically significant association was seen between time management, reflective skills, and interpersonal skills with gender, as well as the domains of P-MEX and years of education. CONCLUSION The use of P-MEX provides a valid confirmation for the assessment and awareness of professionalism amongst the dental faculty and students. Females demonstrated higher traits of professionalism as compared to males. The findings from the current study identify that students and faculty members had sufficient awareness regarding professionalism and the practice of professionalism was routinely followed.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION This study aimed to evaluate and validate the educational effectiveness of a job shadowing class as a dental teaching programme for preclinical dental students through a questionnaire that assessed related student perceptions. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 124 preclinical (second year) dental students at Tokushima University participated in job shadowing placements from 2017 to 2019. Each student observed dental practice or surgery for 1 day in the university hospital. After shadowing, the students were requested to fill out a nine-item questionnaire based on a five-point scale. The first analysis was performed to calculate the correlation for each item. Furthermore, regression analysis for the categorical data was performed to show the relationship between eight questions (Items 1-8) and one question (Item 9: comprehensive evaluation). Next, factor analysis was performed to determine students' perceptions regarding the shadowing class. RESULTS Ninety-eight students (response rate: 79%) completed the questionnaire. There was a strong relationship amongst Items 1, 8 and 9 ("interested in dentistry as a job," "learning motivation" and "comprehensive evaluation" respectively) based on the results of the correlation and regression analysis. The factor analysis led to three student perceptions as latent factors, namely, "Interesting," "Self-awareness" and "Future Goal," which had a relatively close inter-factor correlation (0.465-0.772). CONCLUSION The finding suggests that job shadowing may increase a students' interest in a dentistry career at an early stage of their education and learning motivation, along with generating self-awareness. This programme may present possible educational effectiveness in dental education.

Abstract
Objective This study aims to investigate sexual behaviors among gender diverse (LGBT and other sexual/gender minorities) and nongender-diverse medical students. Methods In 2021 academic year, medical students from five Thai medical schools completed questionnaires identifying demographic data, psychosexual factors, sexual experiences, and risks. Results Among 1,322 students, 32.1% were gender-diverse students who had lower age at first sexual intercourse and more experiences in solitary and partnered sexual activity. Conclusions Use of hookup applications was more frequent among gay and bisexual males. Risky sexual behaviors were significantly higher among bisexual females. Gender-diverse medical students showed higher involvement in sexual activities. Future studies should be addressing sexual health in Thai medical education.

Abstract
PURPOSE We assessed the attitudes of Jazan University medical students toward professionalism and evaluated the associations of those attitudes with demographic factors. MATERIALS AND METHODS Seven hundred ninety-seven respondents (88.85% response rate) out of 898 students who were invited to this study (50.7% were men and 49.3% were women) were studied by their response to the Learner's Attitude of Medical Professionalism Scale (LAMPS) that assess their level of agreement with 28 items, each reflecting a single professionalism competency within the subscales of Altruism, Excellence, Duty/Accountability, Honor/Integrity, and Respect for Others. RESULTS Of 797 respondents (88.85% response rate), 50.7% were men and 49.3% were women. Subscales with high agreement scores were Excellence (median, 21.0; range, 6-30) and Duty/Accountability (median, 21.0; range, 7-35). Subscales with slightly lower agreement scores were Respect for Others (median, 15.0; range, 5-25), Altruism (median, 15.0; range, 5-25), and Honor/Integrity (median, 12.0; range, 5-25). No sex differences were observed for most subscales; however, men gave higher agreement scores on the Excellence subscale, and compared with year 3 respondents (preclinical phase), year 6 respondents (clinical phase) gave higher agreement scores on the Excellence, Altruism, and Respect for Others subscales. CONCLUSION Overall, medical students at Jazan University indicated high agreement with all attitudes to professionalism subscales on the LAMPS.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Advancements in big data technology are reshaping the healthcare system in China. This study aims to explore the role of medical big data in promoting digital competencies and professionalism among Chinese medical students. DESIGN, SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS This study was conducted among 274 medical students who attended a workshop on medical big data conducted on 8 July 2021 in Tongji Hospital. The workshop was based on the first nationwide multifunction gynecologic oncology medical big data platform in China, at the National Union of Real-World Gynecologic Oncology Research & Patient Management Platform (NUWA platform). OUTCOME MEASURES Data on knowledge, attitudes towards big data technology and professionalism were collected before and after the workshop. We have measured the four skill categories: doctor‒patient relationship skills, reflective skills, time management and interprofessional relationship skills using the Professionalism Mini-Evaluation Exercise (P-MEX) as a reflection for professionalism. RESULTS A total of 274 students participated in this workshop and completed all the surveys. Before the workshop, only 27% of them knew the detailed content of medical big data platforms, and 64% knew the potential application of medical big data. The majority of the students believed that big data technology is practical in their clinical practice (77%), medical education (85%) and scientific research (82%). Over 80% of the participants showed positive attitudes toward big data platforms. They also exhibited sufficient professionalism before the workshop. Meanwhile, the workshop significantly promoted students' knowledge of medical big data (p<0.05), and led to more positive attitudes towards big data platforms and higher levels of professionalism. CONCLUSIONS Chinese medical students have primitive acquaintance and positive attitudes toward big data technology. The NUWA platform-based workshop may potentially promote their understanding of big data and enhance professionalism, according to the self-measured P-MEX scale.
