Abstract
Over the past decades, researchers have continuously investigated the potential functions of long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCPUFAs) in cancers, including lung cancer. The ω-3 LCPUFAs, primarily consisting of eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid, were found to modify inflammatory tumor microenvironment, induce cancer cell apoptosis and autophagy, and suppress tumor development when administered alone or with other therapeutical strategies. Although the precise anti-tumor mechanism has not been elucidated yet, ω-3 LCPUFAs are often used in the nutritional treatment of patients with cancer due to their ability to significantly improve patient's nutritional status, increase the sensitivity of tumor cells to treatments, and alleviate cancer-related complications. Here we present the key roles of ω-3 LCPUFAs as dietary supplementations in lung cancer, comprehensively review the recent progress on the underlying mechanisms of cancer cell regulation by ω-3 LCPUFAs, and introduce the application of ω-3 LCPUFAs in the clinical management of lung cancer and its malignant complications.

Abstract
BACKGROUND&AIMS Gastrointestinal (GI) cancers, including gastric, liver, esophageal, pancreatic, and colorectal cancers, represent significant global health burdens. Emerging evidence suggests that dietary patterns, particularly their inflammatory and oxidative properties, may influence cancer risk. The Dietary Inflammatory Index (DII) and Dietary Oxidative Balance Score (DOBS) assess the inflammatory and oxidative effects of diets, respectively. This study aims to explore the association between DII, DOBS, and the combined risk of GI cancers, and investigates the potential mediating roles of serum albumin and red cell distribution width (RDW). METHODS Data from 26,320 participants in the NHANES 2005-2018 cycles were analyzed. DII was calculated based on 28 dietary components, and DOBS included 17 nutrients (3 pro-oxidants and 14 antioxidants). Logistic regression models assessed the associations between DII, DOBS, and GI cancers. Restricted cubic spline (RCS) models examined dose-response relationships. Mediation analysis evaluated the roles of serum albumin and RDW. Subgroup analyses explored interactions with demographic and health-related factors. RESULTS Higher DII was associated with increased GI cancer risk (OR: 1.26, 95% CI: 1.07-1.49 per unit increase), while higher DOBS was associated with reduced risk (OR: 0.90, 95% CI: 0.76-0.99 per unit increase). RCS analysis indicated a significant nonlinear relationship between DII and GI cancer risk. Serum albumin and RDW partially mediated the associations between DII, DOBS, and GI cancers. Subgroup analyses showed stronger associations for DII among certain demographics, and significant interactions were found between DII and BMI. For DOBS, significant interactions were observed with age and BMI. CONCLUSION This study reveals significant associations between dietary inflammatory and oxidative balance scores and GI cancer risk. Higher DII is linked to increased risk, while higher DOBS is protective. The mediating roles of serum albumin and RDW provide insights into underlying mechanisms. These findings underscore the potential of dietary modifications in GI cancer prevention and management, emphasizing the importance of anti-inflammatory and antioxidant-rich diets.

Abstract
The incidence of pancreatic cancer is increasing worldwide. The most common form is represented by pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) which has been shown to be linked to chronic inflammation. Notably, the gut microbiota has emerged as a critical player in regulating immune responses and inflammation. Indeed, intestinal dysbiosis, characterized by an imbalance in the gut microbiota composition, can contribute to the initiation of chronic inflammation. Sterile chronic inflammation can occur, probably activated by the translocation of bacterial components, such as lipopolysaccharide (LPS), the major component of Gram-negative microbiota, with the consequent induction of innate mucosal immunity, through the activation of Toll-like receptors (TLRs). Furthermore, the interaction between LPS and TLRs could enhance cancer progression. Recent research has shed light on the pivotal role of nutrition, as a modifiable risk factor, in PDAC immunological processes, particularly focusing on the immuno-modulatory effects of the gut microbiota. Different dietary regimens, fiber intake, immunonutrients, and antioxidants have the potential to either exacerbate or mitigate chronic inflammation, thereby influencing the pathogenesis and natural history of PDAC. These dietary components may affect the gut microbiota composition and, consequently, the level of inflammation, either promoting or protecting against PDAC. In this review of reviews, we discuss the modulatory role of nutrition and the gut microbiota in PDAC's immunological processes to explore a translational therapeutic approach that could improve the survival and quality of life of these patients.

Abstract
Many chemotherapeutic drugs cause adverse pulmonary reactions leading to severe pulmonary disease. Though methotrexate (MTX) is used for the treatment of cancer and other diseases, it is highly toxic with multiple adverse effects including pulmonary toxicity. Essential oils represent an open frontier for pharmaceutical sciences due to their wide range of pharmacological properties. Pumpkin seeds oil (PSO) was used to investigate its ability to alleviate methotrexate-induced lung toxicity in rats. Lung tissue from MTX-treated group revealed a decrease in malondialdehyde, glutathione, and nitric oxide accompanied by a marked inhibition in cholinesterase activity, and enhanced catalase activity, tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin-6 and vascular endothelial growth factor levels. Analysis of PSO revealed that the oil was rich in hexadecanoic acid, decane methyl esters, squalene, polydecane, docosane, and other derivatives. Administration of PSO ameliorated the oxidant/antioxidant and proinflammatory changes induced by MTX in the lung tissue. Histological examinations confirmed the potency of PSO in reducing the histopathological alterations induced by MTX. Immunohistochemical analysis showed decreased nuclear factor-kappa B and caspase 3 expression after PSO. The present data indicated the protective efficiency of PSO against MTX-induced lung injury by decreasing oxidative damage, inflammation and apoptosis and could thus be recommended as an adjuvant therapy.

Abstract
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a common type of liver cancer and is a leading cause of death worldwide. Signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) is involved in HCC progression, migration, and suppression of apoptosis. This study investigates the apoptotic effect of the dietary antioxidant (n-3 PUFAs) on HepG2 cells and analyzes the underlying molecular mechanisms of this effect both in vivo and in vitro. In vivo study: Seventy-five adult male albino rats were divided into three groups (n = 25): Group I (control): 0.9% normal saline, intraperitoneal. Group II: N-Nitrosodiethylamine (200 mg/kg b.wt) intraperitoneal, followed by phenobarbital 0.05% in drinking water. Group III: as group II followed by n-3 PUFAs intubation (400 mg/kg/day). In vivo study: liver specimens for biochemical, histopathological, and immunohistochemical examination. In vitro study: MTT assay, cell morphology, PCR, Western blot, and immunohistochemical analysis. n-3 PUFAs significantly improved the histopathologic features of HCC and decreased the expression of anti-apoptotic proteins. Further, HepG2 cells proliferation was suppressed through inhibition of the STAT3 signaling pathway, cyclin D1, and Bcl-2 activity. Here we report that n-3 PUFAs may be an ideal cancer chemo-preventive candidate by targeting STAT3 signaling, which is involved in cell proliferation and apoptosis.

Abstract
Dietary intervention to prevent Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori)-associated gastric diseases seems to be ideal with no risk of bacterial resistance, safe long-term intervention, and correcting pathogenic mechanisms including rejuvenation of precancerous atrophic gastritis and anti-mutagenesis. A transcriptome as set of all RNAs transcribed by certain tissues or cells demonstrates gene functions and reveals the molecular mechanism of specific biological processes against diseases. Here, we have performed RNAseq and bioinformatic analysis to explain proof of concept that walnut intake can rescue from H. pylori infection and explore unidentified mode of actions of walnut polyphenol extract (WPE). As results, BIRC3, SLC25A4, f3 transcription, VEGFA, AZU1, HMOX1, RAB3A, RELBTNIP1, ETFB, INPP5J, PPME1, RHOB, TPI1, FOSL1, JUND.RELB, KLF2, MUC1, NDRG1, ALDOA, ENO1, PFKP, GPI, GDF15, and NRTN genes were newly discovered to be enriched with WPE, whereas CCR4, BLNK, CCR7, CXCR4, CDO1, KLSG1, SELE, RASGRP2, PIK3R3, TSPAN32, HOXC-AS3, HCG8, BTNL8, and CXCL3 genes as inhibitory targets by WPE in H. pylori infection. We identified additional genes what WPE afforded actions of avoiding H. pylori-driven onco-inflammation and rejuvenating precancerous atrophic gastritis. Conclusively, after applying RNAseq analysis in order to document walnut intake for precision medicine against H. pylori infection, significant transcriptomic profiling applicable for validation were drawn.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The effect of diet on immune responses is an area of intense investigation. Dietary lipids have been shown to differently influence and fine-tune the reactivity of immune cell subsets, thus potentially affecting clinical outcomes. Patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma face malnutrition, due to swallowing impairment related to the tumor site or to treatment sequalae, and may need supplemental parenteral nutrition (SPN) in addition to oral feeding when enteral nutrition is not feasible. Additionally, immune depression is a well-known complication in these patients. Parenteral nutrition (PN) bags contain amino acids, minerals, electrolytes and mostly lipids that provide calories in a concentrated form and are enriched with essential fatty acids. The aim of this study was to investigate multiple parameters of the immune responses in a cohort of patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma undergoing supplemental PN with bags enriched in ω-3 or ω-9 and ω-6 fatty acids. METHODS To our knowledge, this was the first exploratory study to investigate the effects of two different PN lipid emulsions on specific immune cells function of patients with advanced head and neck squamous carcinoma. ω-3-enriched fish-oil-based- and ω-6- and ω-9-enriched olive-oil-basedSPN was administered to two groups of patients for 1 wk in the context of an observational multicentric study. Polychromatic flow cytometry was used to investigate multiple subsets of leukocytes, with a special focus on cellular populations endowed with antitumor activity. RESULTS Patients treated with olive-oil-based PN showed an increase in the function of the innate (natural killer cells and monocytes) and adaptive (both CD4 and CD8 cells) arms of the immune response. Abstract
The stable gastric pentadecapeptide BPC 157 protects stomach cells, maintains gastric integrity against various noxious agents such as alcohol, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and exerts cytoprotection/ adaptive cytoprotection/organoprotection in other epithelia, that is, skin, liver, pancreas, heart, and brain. Especially BPC 157 counteracts gastric endothelial injury that precedes and induces damage to the gastric epithelium and generalizes "gastric endothelial protection" to protection of the endothelium of other vessels including thrombosis, prolonged bleeding, and thrombocytopenia. In this background, we put the importance of BPC 157 as a possible way of securing GI safety against NSAIDs-induced gastroenteropathy since still unmet medical needs to mitigate NSAIDs-induced cytotoxicity are urgent. Furthermore, gastrointestinal irritants such as physical or mental stress, NSAIDs administration, surfactants destroyer such as bile acids, alcohol can lead to leaky gut syndrome through increasing epithelial permeability. In this review article, we described the potential rescuing actions of BPC 157 against leaky gut syndrome after NSAIDs administration for the first time.

Abstract
Global agendas for sustaining clean environments target remediation of multimedia contaminants, but how clean is clean? Environmental Toxicology and Ecotoxicology focus on issues concerning "clean". However, the models used to assess the effects of environmental multimedia on individual living organisms and communities or populations in Environmental Toxicology and Ecotoxicology may fail to provide reliable estimates for risk assessment and optimize health. Recent developments in low-dose effects research provide a novel means in Environmental Toxicology and Ecotoxicology to improve the quality of hazard and risk assessment.

Abstract
Background Several randomized controlled trials (RCTs) have compared the treatment of acute lung injury (ALI) with omega-3 fatty, yet the results remained inconsistent. Therefore, we attempted this meta-analysis to analyze the role of omega-3 fatty in the treatment of ALI patients. Methods We searched PubMed databases from inception date to October 31, 2019, for RCTs that compared the treatment of ALI with or without omega-3 fatty. Two authors independently screened the studies and extracted data from the published articles. Summary mean differences (MD) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated for each outcome by fixed- or random-effects model. Results Six RCTs with a total of 277 patients were identified, of whom 142 patients with omega-3 fatty acid treatment and 135 patients without omega-3 fatty treatment. Omega-3 fatty treatments significantly improve the PaO2 (MD = 13.82, 95% CI 8.55–19.09), PaO2/FiO2 (MD = 33.47, 95% CI 24.22–42.72), total protein (MD = 2.02, 95% CI 0.43–3.62) in ALI patients, and omega-3 fatty acid treatments reduced the duration of mechanical ventilation (MD = − 1.72, 95% CI − 2.84 to − 0.60) and intensive care unit stay (MD = − 1.29, 95% CI − 2.14 to − 0.43) in ALI patients. Conclusions Omega-3 fatty can effectively improve the respiratory function and promote the recovery of ALI patients. Future studies focused on the long-term efficacy and safety of omega-3 fatty use for ALI are needed.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The purpose of the systematic review and meta-analysis was to determine if low-ratio n-6/n-3 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) supplementation affects serum inflammation markers based on the current studies. METHODS PubMed, Embase and The Cochrane library databases were systematically searched to find randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on the effect of low-ratio n-6/n-3 PUFA intervention on inflammation markers up to July 2020. Data were pooled using standardized mean difference (SMD) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CI), with P value ≦ 0.05 as statistical significance. RESULTS Thirty-one RCTs were included in the meta-analysis. The analysis indicated that increasing low-ratio n-6/n-3 PUFA supplementation decreased the level of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) (SMD = -0.270; 95% CI: -0.433, -0.106; P = 0.001) and interleukin 6 (IL-6) (SMD = -0.153; 95% CI: -0.260, -0.045; P = 0.005). There were no significant effects on C-reactive protein (CRP) (SMD = -0.027; 95% CI: -0.189: 0.135; P = 0.741). Subgroup analysis indicated that there was a significant reduction in TNF-α serum concentration in subjects from Asia (SMD: -0.367; 95% CI: -0.579, -0.155; P = 0.001) and in subjects with diseases (SMD: -0.281; 95% CI: -0.436, -0.127; P < 0.001). In the subgroup of the n-6/n-3 ratio ≦5, low-ratio n-6/n-3 PUFA supplementation could decrease the level of TNF-α (SMD: -0.335; 95% CI: -0.552, -0.119; P = 0.002). Serum IL-6 decreased significantly in patients from the Europe subgroup (SMD: -0.451; 95% CI: -0.688, -0.214; P < 0.001), but not in Asia (SMD: -0.034; 95% CI: -0.226, 0.157; P = 0.724), North America (SMD: -0.115; 95% CI: -0.274, 0.044; P = 0.157) and Oceania (SMD: 0.142; 95% CI: -0.557, 0.842; P = 0.690). CONCLUSION Low-ratio n-6/n-3 PUFA supplementation could decrease significantly the concentration of serum TNF-α and IL-6, but not decrease CRP concentration.

Abstract
The fact that Fat-1 transgenic mice producing n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids via overexpressed 3-desaturase significantly mitigated Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori)-associated gastric tumorigenesis through rejuvenation of chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) led us to study whether dietary intake of walnut plentiful of n-3 PUFAs can be nutritional intervention to prevent H. pylori-associated gastric cancer. In our model that H. pylori-initiated, high salt diet-promoted gastric carcinogenesis, pellet diet containing 100 mg/kg and 200 mg/kg walnut was administered up to 36 weeks. As results, control mice (24 weeks) developed significant chronic CAG, in which dietary walnuts significantly ameliorated chronic atrophic gastritis. Expressions of COX-2/PGE2/NF-κB/c-Jun, elevated in 24 weeks control group, were all significantly decreased with walnut (p<0.01). Tumor suppressive enzyme, 15-PGDH, was significantly preserved with walnut. Control mice (36 weeks) all developed significant tumors accompanied with severe CAG. However, significantly decreased tumorigenesis was noted in group treated with walnuts, in which expressions of COX-2/PGE2/NF-κB/IL-6/STAT3, all elevated in 36 weeks control group, were significantly decreased with walnut. Defensive proteins including HO-1, Nrf2, and SOCS-1 were significantly increased in walnut group. Proliferative index as marked with Ki-67 and PCNA was significantly regulated with walnut relevant to 15-PGDH preservation. Conclusively, walnut can be an anticipating nutritional intervention against H. pylori.

Abstract
The health beneficial effects of walnut plentiful of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid had been attributed to its anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative properties against various clinical diseases. Since we have published Fat-1 transgenic mice overexpressing 3-desaturase significantly mitigated Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori)-associated gastric pathologies including rejuvenation of chronic atrophic gastritis and prevention of gastric cancer, in this study, we have explored the underlying molecular mechanisms of walnut against H. pylori infection. Fresh walnut polyphenol extracts (WPE) were found to suppress the phosphorylation and nuclear translocation of signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) induced by H. pylori infection in RGM-1 gastric mucosal cells. Notably, H. pylori infection significantly decreased suppressor of cytokine signaling 1 (SOCS1), but WPE induced expression of SOCS1, by which the suppressive effect of walnut extracts on STAT3Tyr705 phosphorylation was not seen in SOCS1 KO cells. WPE induced significantly increased nuclear translocation nuclear translocation of PPAR-γ in RGM1 cells, by which PPAR-γ KO inhibited transcription of SOCS1 and suppressive effect of WPE on p-STAT3Tyr705 was not seen. WPE inhibited the expression of c-Myc and IL-6/IL-6R signaling, which was attenuated in the RGM1 cells harboring SOCS1 specific siRNA. Conclusively, WPE inhibits H. pylori-induced STAT3 phosphorylation in a PPAR-γ and SOCS1-dependent manner.

Abstract
Omega-3 fatty acids (ω-3FAs) such as Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and Eicosapentanoic acid (EPA), are active ingredient of fish oil, which have larger health benefits against various diseases including cardiovascular, neurodegenerative, cancers and bone diseases. Substantial studies documented a preventive role of omega-3 fatty acids in pathological calcification like vascular calcification and microcalcification in cancer tissues. In parallel, these fatty acids improve bone quality probably by preventing bone decay and augmenting bone mineralization. This study also addresses that the functions of ω-3FAs not only depend on tissue types, but also work through different molecular mechanisms for preventing pathological calcification in various tissues and improving bone health. PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS: Practical applications of the current study are to improve the knowledge about the supplementation of omega-3 fatty acids. This study infers that supplementation of omega-3 fatty acids aids in bone preservation in elder females at the risk of osteoporosis and also, on the contrary, omega-3 fatty acids interfere with pathological calcification of vascular cells and cancer cells. Omega-3 supplementation should be given to the cardiac patients because of its cardio protective role. In line with this, omega-3 supplementation should be included with chemotherapy for cancer patients as it can prevent osteoblastic potential of breast cancer patients, responsible for pathological mineralization, and blocks off target toxicities. Administration of omega-3 fatty acid with chemotherapy will not only improve survival of cancer patients, but also improve the bone quality. Thus, this study allows a better understanding on omega-3 fatty acids in combating pathological complications such as osteoporosis, vascular calcification, and breast microcalcification.

Abstract
Inflammatory bowel diseases is a group of inflammatory diseases. The pathogenesis of diseases is multifactorial, which may include a Western-type diet. Diseases occur with periods of recurrence and remission. Many factors can have a beneficial effect on reducing the frequency of recurrence and prolonging the remission period. Such ingredients include dietary fibre, mono- and polyunsaturated fatty acids, certain vitamins (D, C, and E), flavonoids, and minerals such as zinc and selenium. Properly selected nutrition might be an integral part of the treatment of patients with Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis.

Abstract
Helicobacter pylori is a pathogen that is considered to cause several gastric disorders such as chronic gastritis, peptic ulcer and even gastric carcinoma. The current therapeutic regimens mainly constitute of a combination of several antimicrobial agents and proton pump inhibitors. However, the prevalence of antibiotic resistance has been significantly lowering the cure rates over the years. Nanocarriers possess unique strengths in this regard owing to the fact that they can protect the drugs (such as antibiotics) from the harsh environment in the stomach, penetrate the mucosal barrier and deliver drugs to the desired site. In this review we summarized recent studies of different antibacterial agents orally delivered by nanosized carriers for the eradication of H. pylori.

Abstract
Over the last years, a growing body of evidence suggests that gut microbial communities play a fundamental role in many aspects of human health and diseases. The gut microbiota is a very dynamic entity influenced by environment and nutritional behaviors. Considering the influence of such a microbial community on human health and its multiple mechanisms of action as the production of bioactive compounds, pathogens protection, energy homeostasis, nutrients metabolism and regulation of immunity, establishing the influences of different nutritional approach is of pivotal importance. The very low carbohydrate ketogenic diet is a very popular dietary approach used for different aims: from weight loss to neurological diseases. The aim of this review is to dissect the complex interactions between ketogenic diet and gut microbiota and how this large network may influence human health.
