Abstract
Adelphobates contains three species, and the inaccurate identification of A. quinquevittatus and the scarcity of records of A. castaneoticus complicate inference of their distributions; the latter species occurs in sympatry with A. galactonotus. Our objective was to revise the distributions of Adelphobates by compiling data and modeling habitat suitability, as range limits may be shaped by landscape features and biotic interactions. We initially analyzed the existence of operational taxonomic units within the nominal species and subsequently inferred the observed and potential distributions, taking into account the possible independent lineages for the three species, and we also generated a molecular timetree to understand the chronology of interspecific diversification events. Adelphobates quinquevittatus was found to have a more easterly distribution than previously described, and specimens with phenotypic variation were found to occur in areas inconsistent with the modeling, and A. castaneoticus was concentrated in the Tapajós-Xingu interfluve, surrounded by A. galactonotus. Models indicated that the right bank of the Xingu River is suitable for both species, indeed, both were found there. Despite Adelphobates species having their distributions delimited by major Amazonian rivers, estimated divergence times predate the formation of the modern river network, suggesting that other mechanisms were involved in their diversification.

Abstract
Morphological, molecular and chromosomal studies in the genera Lonchothrix and Mesomys have contributed to a better understanding of taxonomic design, phylogenetic relationships and karyotypic patterns. Recent molecular investigations have shown a yet undescribed diversity, suggesting that these taxa are even more diverse than previously assumed. Furthermore, some authors have questioned the limits of geographic distribution in the Amazon region for the species M. hispidus and M. stimulax. In this sense, the current study sought to understand the karyotypic evolution and geographic limits of the genus Mesomys, based on classical (G- and C-banding) and molecular cytogenetic analysis (FISH using rDNA 18S and telomeric probes) and through the sequencing of mitochondrial genes Cytochrome b (Cytb) and Cytochrome Oxidase-Subunit I (CO using phylogeny, species delimitation and time of divergence, from samples of different locations in the Brazilian Amazon. The species M. stimulax and Mesomys sp. presented 2n = 60/FN = 110, while M. hispidus presented 2n = 60/FN = 112, hitherto unpublished. Molecular dating showed that Mesomys diversification occurred during the Plio-Pleistocene period, with M. occultus diverging at around 5.1 Ma, followed by Mesomys sp. (4.1 Ma) and, more recently, the separation between M. hispidus and M. stimulax (3.5 Ma). The ABGD and ASAP species delimiters support the formation of 7 and 8 potential species of the genus Mesomys, respectively. Furthermore, in both analyzes Mesomys sp. was recovered as a valid species. Our multidisciplinary approach involving karyotypic, molecular and biogeographic analysis is the first performed in Mesomys, with the description of a new karyotype for M. hispidus, a new independent lineage for the genus and new distribution data for M. hispidus and M. stimulax.

Abstract
Abstract
Background
For the genus Thylamys, the rivers have been reported as barriers to dispersal, limiting current and historical distribution of its lineages. We hypothesized that the Maipo river has affected the genetic structure of northern and southern lineages of Thylamys elegans, recovering a phylogenetic relationships with reciprocally monophyletic sister groups on opposite river banks. We evaluated the role of other rivers in the Mediterranean zone of Chile as historical and recent modulators of the biogeographic processes of this species.
Methods
We applied a phylogeographic approach, using the cytochrome-b mitochondrial gene for 93 individuals of T. elegans, from 37 localities in a latitudinal gradient between 21°25’ and 35˚56’S, encompassing a geographic area between the Atacama Desert and most of the Mediterranean Chilean zone.
Results
The phylogenetics results recovered six lineages within T. elegans: Thylamys elegans elegans, Thylamys elegans coquimbensis, the Loa lineage and three other lineages not described previously (Aconcagua, South 1 and South 2). We suggest that following rivers play a role like primary barrier: the Maipo river in the genetic differentiation of northern and southern ancestral lineages, and the Mataquito river and its tributary Teno river for the South 1 and South 2 lineages. On the other hand, the Quilimarí river preserve the genetic divergence in T. e. coquimbensis and Aconcagua lineage and the Aconcagua river in Aconcagua lineage and T. e. elegans acting like secondary barriers.
Conclusions
We concluded that the genetic diversity and biogeographic history of T. elegans was shaped by mountain glaciers, changes in river water levels during the Pleistocene glaciations and hyperaridity, promoting the differentiation and persistance of the T. elegans lineages.
