Abstract
Sleep deprivation is a critical issue that affects workers in numerous industries, including construction. It adversely affects workers and can lead to significant concerns regarding their health, safety, and overall job performance. Several studies have investigated the effects of sleep deprivation on safety and productivity. Although the impact of sleep deprivation on safety and productivity through cognitive impairment has been investigated, research on the association of sleep deprivation and contributing factors that lead to workplace hazards and injuries remains limited. To fill this gap in the literature, this study utilized machine learning algorithms to predict hazardous situations. Furthermore, this study demonstrates the applicability of machine learning algorithms, including support vector machine and random forest, by predicting sleep deprivation in construction workers based on responses from 240 construction workers, identifying seven primary indices as predictive factors. The findings indicate that the support vector machine algorithm produced superior sleep deprivation prediction outcomes during the validation process. The study findings offer significant benefits to stakeholders in the construction industry, particularly project and safety managers. By enabling the implementation of targeted interventions, these insights can help reduce accidents and improve workplace safety through the timely and accurate prediction of sleep deprivation.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Excessive gestational weight gain (eGWG) is associated with adverse long-term maternal outcomes. Most lifestyle interventions that incorporate physical activity have been ineffective at reducing eGWG. The purpose of this study was to determine if sleep modified the relationships between physical activity change from the 2nd to 3rd trimester and the odds of excessive gestational weight gain (eGWG). METHODS This was a secondary data analysis of a prospective cohort study of pregnant birthing people with overweight or obesity (n = 105). We estimated physical activity energy expenditure (PAEE) in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters of pregnancy and sleep characteristics (i.e., sleep quality, daytime dysfunction, sleep efficiency, sleep duration) in the 2nd trimester of pregnancy with validated measures. We used regression models with sleep and PAEE change (increase/stable vs. decrease) interaction terms to examine the impact of sleep on PAEE change and eGWG. RESULTS Mean GWG was 37.02 ± 16.76 lbs. and 80% of participants experienced eGWG. Eighteen percent of participants increased their PAEE from the 2nd to the 3rd trimester. Increasing (vs. decreasing) PAEE was associated with lower log-odds of eGWG only among participants that slept at least 8 h/night (p = 0.06), had at least 85% sleep efficiency (p = 0.03), or reported less daytime dysfunction (p = 0.08). Sleep quality did not moderate the association between PAEE change and eGWG. CONCLUSIONS Weight management interventions in pregnancy should consider screening for and addressing poor sleep in the second trimester.

Abstract
There has been a significant decline in worker productivity at construction sites globally owing to the increase in accidents and fatalities due to unsafe behavior among workers. Although many studies have explored the incidence of unsafe behaviors among construction workers, limited studies have attempted to evaluate the causal factors and to determine the root causes. An integrative interpretive structural modeling analysis of the interrelationships that exist between these causal factors established from relevant literature was conducted in this study to determine the root factors hence bridging this gap. Fifteen causal factors were identified through literature review, and the nature of interrelationships between them was determined using interpretive structural modeling (ISM) and a Cross-impact matrix multiplication applied to classification (MICMAC) analysis. Data was obtained from a purposively selected cohort of experts using semi-structured interviews. The emergent data was subsequently analyzed using the ISM and MICMAC analysis to ascertain the interrelationships between the causal factors. The results of the study showed that age, sleep quality, degree of interaction and workers' skillsets were the root causes of unsafe behavior among construction workers. Besides engendering the establishment of the root causes of unsafe behavior among construction workers, the results of this study will facilitate the prioritization of appropriate solutions for tackling the menace.

Abstract
Approximately 21% of the workers in developing and developed countries are shift laborers. The laborer's work shifts can affect personal life and sleep standards, adversely impacting laborers and their manage. This study assesses the impact of various shift plans (seven evenings/7 days, fixed-night or fixed-day, and backup shifts) on shift laborers, considering four shift schedules. Most laborers were on rotational shifts, whereas others were on a permanent day, permanent night, and standby shifts. In a cross-sectional study, 45 development laborers from the National Construction firm were enlisted. Bio-wearable sensors were provided to monitor sleep. Participants were approached and asked to complete a survey bundle comprising the Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI) and Epworth sleepiness scale (ESS). Differences in sleep models were estimated using a Fitbit watch at various shift schedules. The average age of laborers who participated in the study was 37.5 years, and their average experience in the construction company was 6.5 years. The average total sleep time was 346 ± 46 min. The rotational shift laborers yielded the minimum total sleep time compared to the average PSQI and ESS scores of 7.66 ± 1.3 and 6.94 ± 3.4, respectively. Fifteen shift laborers (33.33%) were affected by a sleeping disorder in the present experimental investigation, and 30 participants had inadequate standards of sleep based on the PSQI scores. Poor sleep quality and duration among construction shift laborers decrease productivity at work. Additional studies are expected to assess sleep-related issues affecting construction shift laborers.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Pregnant women frequently report experiencing poor sleep. Poor sleep during pregnancy is associated with negative health outcomes for both mother and baby. Physical activity (PA), including exercise may be an effective non-pharmacological strategy for improving sleep during pregnancy. The aim of this systematic review was to synthesize the current literature on the association between physical activity (including exercise) and sleep during pregnancy. METHOD A systematic online search was undertaken between 15-16 February 2022 in PsycINFO, CINAHL, Embase and PubMed. To meet the inclusion criteria articles had to; [1] be published in a peer reviewed journal; [2] consist of pregnant participants; and [3] be published in English. Studies were excluded if they were not published in English and did not investigate the association between a type of physical activity (including exercise) and a sleep variable during a trimester of pregnancy. RESULTS Ten studies were included in this review. Five of the ten studies used observational data collection measures and the remaining five used intervention based methods. Eight of the ten included studies found PA (including exercise) was positively associated with sleep during pregnancy. CONCLUSION In order to properly establish PA as a strategy to improve sleep during pregnancy, future research should aim to determine the PA characteristics most beneficial to sleep during pregnancy across each trimester.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To examine the influence of physical activity before and during pregnancy on maternal mental health outcomes. METHODS Ten electronic databases were searched up to May 11, 2021. Studies of all observational designs (except case studies and reviews) were included, which contained information on the relevant population (women before and or during pregnancy), exposures (objective or subjective measures of physical activity), comparator (low or no physical activity), and outcomes (diagnosis and symptom severity of depression or anxiety, quality of life scores, stress and emotions). RESULTS Forty-four observational studies (N = 132,399) were included. 'Low' to 'very low' certainty evidence revealed that compared with low levels of PA during pregnancy, high levels of PA were associated with a reduced odds of developing prenatal depression (odds ratio (OR): 0.68, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.58 to 0.80) and anxiety (OR: 0.67, 95% CI: 0.54 to 0.83). We also found a reduction in the severity of prenatal depressive symptoms (standardized mean difference (SMD): -0.37, 95% CI -0.57 to -0.17), prenatal anxiety symptoms (SMD: -0.45, 95% CI -0.64 to -0.27), and prenatal stress (SMD: -0.33, 95% CI -0.55 to -0.11), concurrent with improved quality of life (SMD: 0.38, 95% CI 0.23 to 0.54). PA before pregnancy did not impact the outcomes of interest. CONCLUSION Physical activity during pregnancy is associated with a reduction in the odds and severity of prenatal depression and anxiety, as well as reduced stress and improved quality of life. Abstract
AIM/INTRODUCTION Sleep problem is an important public health concern worldwide. We conducted a meta-analysis to quantitatively evaluate whether sleep duration associated with pregnancy outcomes, and the associations were modified by important characteristics of studies. MATERIALS AND METHODS Basing on PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL) databases, we searched for the published literature related to maternal sleep duration and adverse pregnancy outcomes before 30 June, 2021. We conducted risk of bias assessment, subgroup analyses and sensitivity analysis. The relative risks (RR) or odds ratios (OR) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) were used to estimate the pooled effects. RESULTS 5246 references were identified through databases searching, 41 studies were included in the study. Pregnant with short sleep duration had 1.81 times (95% CI 1.35-2.44, P < 0.001) risk of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). The association between short sleep duration and the risk of gestational hypertension (GH), cesarean section (CS), low birthweight (LBW), preterm birth (PTB) and small for gestational age (SGA) were not significant (P > 0.05). Furthermore, long sleep duration was significantly correlated with GDM (OR 1.24. 95% CI 1.12-1.36, P < 0.001) and CS (OR 1.13. 95% CI 1.04-1.22, P = 0.004), while long sleep duration was not linked with GH, LBW, PTB and SGA (P > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Short / long sleep duration appeared to be associated with adverse pregnancy outcome, specifically with an increased risk of GDM. Sleep should be systematically screened in the obstetric population.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Physical inactivity exacerbates poorer sleep quality, but potential underlying mechanisms of this association remain unknown. The present study aims to disentangle the pathways linking psychical activity to sleep quality through the serial mediation effect of anxiety and depression in a Chinese population. METHODS Data analyzed were from Guangdong Sleep and Psychosomatic Health Survey, a cross-sectional population-based study with a representative sample of adult inhabitants aged 18-85 years living in Guangdong province, China. A total of 13,768 participants were included with the response rate of 80.4%. Singe and serial mediation analyses were conducted to examine whether anxiety and depression mediated the relationship between physical activity and sleep quality, independently and jointly. RESULTS Both direct and indirect effects of physical activity on sleep quality were found. As predicted, anxiety and depression mediated the relationship between physical activity and sleep quality (B Anxiety = -0.17, 95% bootstrap CI: -0.20 to -0.15; B Depression= -0.25, 95% bootstrap CI: -0.28 to -0.21), respectively. In addition, serial mediation analyses indicated that the association of physical activity and sleep quality is mediated by anxiety and depression in a sequential manner (B = -0.13, 95% bootstrap CI: -0.15 to -0.11). LIMITATIONS The primary limitation of the study is the cross-sectional design, which limits the causal inference ability. CONCLUSIONS These findings highlight the role of anxiety and depression as serial mediators of the relationship between physical activity and sleep quality. Thus, exercise-based programs focusing on improving sleep could benefit from a multi-faceted approach therapeutically targeting psychiatric disorders.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Sleep and physical activity changes are common in pregnancy, but longitudinal data starting before conception are scarce. Our aim was to determine the changes of the daily total sleep time (TST) and physical activity duration (PAD) from before conception to end of pregnancies in respect of pregestational maternal factors. METHODS This longitudinal observational study formed part of the CONIMPREG research project and recruited healthy women planning to become pregnant. Sleep and physical activity were recorded around-the-clock for ≥4 days via actigraphy before conception and during each trimester of pregnancy. Data were adjusted according to pregestational maternal body composition, parity and age. RESULTS Among 123 women with eligible data, the unadjusted mean (95% confidence interval) TST increased from 415.3 min (405.5-425.2 min) before conception to 458.0 min (445.4-470.6 min) in the 1st trimester, remaining high through the 2nd and 3rd trimesters. Variation was substantial before conception (±2SD range: 307-523 min). The unadjusted mean PAD before conception was 363.7 min (±2SD range: 120-608 min), decreasing sharply to 262.1 min in the first trimester and more gradually thereafter. Vigorous and moderate activity decreased more than light activity. TST and PAD were significantly associated with age, parity, and pregestational body fat percentage; lean body mass was negatively correlated with TST. Results were generally unaffected by seasonal variations. CONCLUSION Marked variations were found in pregestational TST and PAD. Healthy women slept ≥30 min longer during pregnancy, while PAD decreased by ≥ 90 min in early pregnancy and continued to decrease thereafter.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To assess fetal cardiac activity with simultaneous polysomnographic (PSG) study of pregnancy with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS). MATERIALS AND METHODS Forty-nine women, aged 18-30 years, 30-34 weeks pregnant, complaining of snoring, with a positive rating in 2 and/or 3 sections of the Berlin Sleep Questionnaire were included in the study. Sixteen pregnant women with the corresponding gestational age, without complaints of snoring, made up the control group. All participants underwent PSG monitoring and fetal cardiotocography (CTG) according to standard techniques. RESULTS PSG results demonstrate significant changes in sleep patterns in pregnant women with OSAS. There is a significant reduction in SWS 3, REM. High AHI, accompanied by desaturation and the appearance of activation EEG- patterns of cyclic alternations are characterized the sleep of pregnant women with OSAS. Analysis of CTG results shows that the average values of the basal rhythm are statistically higher in women with OSAS than in the control group. Also, the indicators of the amplitude of the oscillations, the frequency of oscillations and the number of movements in 30 minutes are statistically significantly different. Reaction of the fetus to episodes of apnea in the form of active perturbation, changes in heart rate as bradycardia (to 105-110 beats per minute) or tachycardia (to 155-160 beats per minute) compared to basal level (140 beats per minute) are noted. CONCLUSION OSAS during nocturnal sleep in pregnant women causes the changes in motor activity and cardiac activity of the fetus that indicates fetal hypoxemia.

Abstract
Background There were inconsistent findings in the literature regarding the associations of physical activity and sleep duration during pregnancy with caesarean delivery for different reasons. It was also unknown whether physical activity and sleep duration during pregnancy had interactive effects on the risks of different types of caesarean delivery. The study aimed to investigate the effects of physical activity, sleep duration and their interactions on the risk of caesarean delivery for medical reasons and non-medical reasons. Methods From October 2010 to August 2012, a prospective population-based cohort of 13,015 pregnant women was established in six central urban districts of Tianjin, China. Pregnancy outcomes were retrieved from an electronic database and caesarean delivery was divided into caesarean delivery for medical reasons and caesarean delivery for non-medical reasons. Physical activity and sleep status were collected at 24–28 weeks of gestation using self-reported questionnaires. Logistic regression and additive interaction were used to examine physical activity, sleep duration and their interactive effects on risk of caesarean delivery. Results In the cohort, 5692 (43.7%) and 2641 (20.3%) of women had caesarean delivery for medical reasons and non-medical reasons, respectively. Low physical activity increased the risk of caesarean delivery for medical reasons (adjusted OR: 1.13, 95%CI 1.04–1.23) but not caesarean delivery for non-medical reasons. Sleep duration < 7 h/day and poor sleep quality were not associated with caesarean delivery. Sleep duration ≥9 h/day increased the risk of caesarean delivery for medical reasons (1.12, 1.02–1.22) and caesarean delivery for non-medical reasons (1.16, 1.05–1.29). Co-presence of low physical activity and sleep duration ≥9 h/day increased risk of caesarean delivery (1.25, 1.12–1.41), and their additive interaction was statistically significant for caesarean delivery for medical reasons but not for caesarean delivery for non-medical reasons. Conclusions Low physical activity and excessive sleep duration during pregnancy each increased the risk of caesarean delivery, and they had an interactive effect on the risk of caesarean delivery for medical reasons but not on the risk of caesarean delivery for non-medical reasons. Increasing physical activity and maintaining recommended sleep duration during pregnancy may have benefits for perinatal health. Abstract
INTRODUCTION Sleep, sedentary behavior, and moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) are altered in pregnancy and may affect pregnancy health; however, how these behaviors are associated with each other is unclear. METHODS Pregnant women (N = 120) completed the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and wore an activPAL3 micro and ActiGraph GT3X for 7 days in each trimester to assess sleep, sedentary behavior, and MVPA, respectively. Latent trajectories described patterns of sleep duration, efficiency, and quality as well as sedentary behavior and MVPA. Multinomial logistic regression examined associations of sleep patterns with sedentary behavior and MVPA patterns and, in exploratory analyses, with adverse pregnancy outcomes. RESULTS Trajectories were identified for sleep duration (consistently short, 20.7% of sample; consistently adequate, 79.3%), efficiency (consistently low, 17.5%; consistently high, 82.5%), and quality (consistently poor, 15.1%; worsening, 23.5%; and consistently good, 61.5%). Compared with those in more optimal sleep groups, women in the short duration, low efficiency, and worsening quality groups had lower odds of being in the moderate and/or high sedentary behavior group (odds ratio range, 0.21-0.31; 95% confidence interval range, 0.09-0.65). Women in the worsening quality group had greater odds of being in the low MVPA group (odds ratio, 2.51; 95% confidence interval, 1.18-5.38). Trends were observed with women in less optimal sleep groups having greater odds of adverse pregnancy outcomes and lower odds of excessive gestational weight gain. CONCLUSIONS Less optimal sleep patterns in pregnancy are associated with less sedentary behavior and MVPA; additional research is needed to confirm associations between sleep and pregnancy outcomes.

Abstract
The purposes of the study were to (1) identify clusters based on patterns of sleep quality and duration and physical activity levels of healthy Korean pregnant women, and (2) subsequently investigate the association of identified clusters with pre-pregnancy healthy behaviors, depressive symptoms, and pregnancy stress. Two hundred eighty-four pregnant women participated in the study while attending a prenatal education program provided by a tertiary hospital in Seoul, Korea. The survey questionnaire consisted of the Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index, the International Physical Activity Questionnaire, and the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression scale. We used the Latent GOLD to identify distinct clusters and the chi-square test and ANOVA to compare clusters. We identified three clusters: ‘good sleeper’ (63.4%), ‘poor sleeper’ (24.6%), and ‘low activity’ (12.0%). Women in the good-sleeper cluster were more likely to have higher education and income levels and reported more healthy behaviors before pregnancy. Poor-sleeper and low-activity clusters were more likely to report higher scores in depressive symptoms and pregnancy stress (p < 0.001 and p = 0.005, respectively). Tailored intervention for pregnant women who are physically inactive or sleep poorly may promote their psychological well-being as well as bringing good obstetric outcomes.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE/BACKGROUND Short and long sleep duration, later sleep midpoint, and greater intra-individual sleep variability are associated with lower physical activity, but previous research lacks objective and concurrent assessment of sleep and physical activity. This cross-sectional study examined whether sleep duration, midpoint, and variability in duration and midpoint were related to wrist actigraphy-measured physical activity. PARTICIPANTS Participants were 2156 Hispanics/Latinos in the Hispanic Community Health Study/Study of Latinos (HCHS/SOL) Sueño Ancillary Study. METHODS Participants wore Actiwatch devices to measure sleep and physical activity via the wrist for ≥5 days. Physical activity was defined as minutes/day in the upper quartile of the sampling distribution's non-sleep activity, capturing light to vigorous physical activity. RESULTS An inverse linear relationship between sleep duration and physical activity was found such that each additional sleep hour related to 29 fewer minutes of physical activity (B = -28.7, SE = 3.8), p < .01). Variability in sleep midpoint was also associated with physical activity; with each 1-hr increase in variability there were 24 more minutes of physical activity (B = 24.2, SE = 5.6, p < .01). In contrast, sleep midpoint and variability in duration were not associated with physical activity. Sensitivity analyses identified an association of short sleep duration and greater variability in sleep duration with greater accelerometry-derived moderate-to-vigorous physical activity measured at the HCHS/SOL baseline (M = 2.1 years before the sleep assessment). CONCLUSIONS Findings help clarify inconsistent prior research associating short sleep duration and sleep variability with greater health risks but also contribute novel information with simultaneous objective assessments.

Abstract
PURPOSE To explore the association between maternal physical activity (PA) and sleep quality during pregnancy, and the necessary PA level at different gestational stages to attain improved sleep quality. METHODS A total of 2443 participants were recruited from the Shanghai Maternal-Child Pairs Cohort (Shanghai MCPC) study, who had completed questionnaires including the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) at gestational weeks (GW) of 12-16 and 32-36. PSQI scores and their seven components at the two GW were compared, as were PSQI scores at 12-16 and 32-36 GW and the increment in PSQI relative to PA. Regression analysis was conducted to assess the effect of PA and its change on the total PSQI score at different GW. RESULTS The mean PSQI scores increased significantly during pregnancy, from 6.30 ± 3.01 at 12-16 GW to 7.23 ± 3.47 at 32-36 GW. Compared with women in low PA level, moderate levels of PA at both 12-16 GW and 32-36 GW were significantly reduced PSQI scores of 0.42 (95% CI:-0.68,-0.16) and 0.32 (95% CI:-0.63,-0.01), respectively. At 32-36 GW, high PA level also significantly decreased PSQI score, with a greater decline than moderate PA level. (AOR=-0.87,95% CI:-1.57,-0.18). PA increment from 12-16 to 32-36 weeks of pregnancy created a significant decline of 0.54 in PSQI scores. CONCLUSION The study revealed sleep quality was worse at the third trimester and moderate PA level had the potential for improvement of sleep quality both in the first and the third trimester. High PA level was also beneficial to improve sleep quality of pregnant women in the third trimester.
