A novel etching technique for surface treatment of zirconia ceramics to improve adhesion of resin-based luting cements

Translucent Zirconia in Fixed Prosthodontics-An Integrative Overview

Over the past two decades, dental ceramics have experienced rapid advances in science and technology, becoming the fastest-growing field of dental materials. This review emphasizes the significant impact of translucent zirconia in fixed prosthodontics, merging aesthetics with strength, and highlights its versatility from single crowns to complex bridgework facilitated by digital manufacturing advancements. The unique light-conducting properties of translucent zirconia offer a natural dental appearance, though with considerations regarding strength trade-offs compared to its traditional, opaque counterpart. The analysis extends to the mechanical attributes of the material, noting its commendable fracture resistance and durability, even under simulated physiological conditions. Various zirconia types (3Y-TZP, 4Y-TZP, 5Y-TZP) display a range of strengths influenced by factors like yttria content and manufacturing processes. The study also explores adhesive strategies, underlining the importance of surface treatments and modern adhesives in achieving long-lasting bonds. In the realm of implant-supported restorations, translucent zirconia stands out for its precision, reliability, and aesthetic adaptability, proving suitable for comprehensive dental restorations. Despite its established benefits, the review calls for ongoing research to further refine the material's properties and adhesive protocols and to solidify its applicability through long-term clinical evaluations, ensuring its sustainable future in dental restorative applications.

The Shear Bond Strength of Resin-Based Luting Cement to Zirconia Ceramics after Different Surface Treatments

Due to its unique properties, zirconia is increasingly being used in dentistry, but surface preparation for bonding is difficult because of its polycrystalline structure. This study aimed to determine the effect of a new etching technique (Zircos-E) on Ceramill Zi (Amann Girrbach). The effect of etching and the use of primers (Monobond Plus and MKZ Primer) on the bond strength of zirconia with resin cement (NX3) was assessed. Shear bond strength was evaluated after storage in water for 24 h and after thermal aging (5000 thermocycling at 5 °C/55 °C). A scanning electron microscope (Hitachi S-4700) was used to evaluate the surface structure before and after the Zircos-E system. The roughness parameters were assessed using an SJ-410 profilometer. The etched zirconia surface is more homogeneous over the entire surface, but some localized forms of erosion exist. The etching of zirconia ceramics caused changes in the surface structure of zirconia and a significant increase in the shear bond strength between zirconia and resin cement. The use of primers positively affects the adhesion between resin cement and zirconia. Aging with thermocycler significantly reduced the shear bond strength, with one exception-sandblasted samples with MKZ Primer. Standard ceramic surface preparation, involving only alumina sandblasting, does not provide a satisfactory bond. The use of etching with the Zircos-E system and primers had a positive effect on the strength of the zirconium-resin cement connection.

Construction of Nanostructured Glass-Zirconia to Improve the Interface Stability of Dental Bilayer Zirconia

Bilayer zirconia restoration is one of the most commonly used restorations in dental practice, but the high frequency of the cohesive/adhesive fracture of veneered porcelain is still a problem. This paper focuses on the development of nanostructured glass-zirconia to improve the interface stability of dental zirconia substrate and veneered porcelain. A novel SiO₂-Li₂O-Al₂O₃ (SLA) glass was prepared and infiltrated into the surface of fully sintered dental zirconia to obtain nanostructured glass-zirconia structure. The prepared glass-zirconia was analyzed with scanning electron microscopes (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and X-ray diffraction spectroscopy (XRD). The wettability, roughness and 3D morphology of zirconia were altered, and shear bonding strength (SBS) test demonstrated almost double increase in SBS values of the nanostructured glass-zirconia structure. The failure modes and microstructure characteristics also verified the improved interfacial stability. This investigation provides a promising method for enhancing the structural stability of bilayer zirconia restorations.

Physicochemical and biological characterization of silica-coated alumina particles

OBJECTIVES

A tribochemical silica-coating (TSC) method has been developed to improve the adhesion of dental resin composites to various substrates. The method utilizes airborne-particle abrasion using particles having a silica surface and an alumina core. The impact of the TSC method has been extensively studied but less attention has been paid to the characterization of the silica-modified alumina particles. Due to the role of silicate ions in cell biology, e.g. osteoblast function and bone mineralization, silica-modified alumina particles could also be potentially used as a biomaterial in scaffolds of tissue regeneration. Thus, we carried out detailed physicochemical characterization of the silica-modified alumina particles.

METHODS

Silica-modified alumina particles (Rocatec, 3 M-ESPE) of an average particle size of 30 µm were studied for the phase composition, spectroscopic properties, surface morphology, dissolution, and the capability to modify the pH of an immersion solution. The control material was alumina without silica modification. Pre-osteoblastic MC3T3-E1 cells were used to assess cell viability in the presence of the particles. Cell viability was tested at 1, 3, 7 and 10 days of culture with various particle quantities. Multivariate ANOVA was used for statistical analyses.

RESULTS

Minor quantities of silica enrichment was verified on the surface of alumina particles and the silica did not evenly cover the alumina surface. In the dissolution test, no change in the pH of the immersion solution was observed in the presence of the particles. Minor quantities of silicate ions were dissolved from the particles to the cell culture medium but no major differences were observed in the viability of pre-osteoblastic cells, whether the cells were cultured with silica-modified or plain alumina particles.

SIGNIFICANCE

Characterization of silica-modified alumina particles demonstrated differences in the particle surface structure compared to control alumina. Dissolution of silica layer in Tris buffer or SBF solution varied from that of cell culture medium: minor quantities of dissolved Si were observed in cell culture test medium. The cell viability test did not shown significant differences between control alumina and its silica-modified counterpart.

Shear bond strength of resin bonded zirconia and lithium disilicate - effect of surface treatment of ceramics and dentin

Objectives:The purpose of the study was to investigate the effect of ceramic surface pretreatment, effect of resin cement and dentin surface roughness on shear bond strength.

Methodology: Zirconia rods (n = 140) were randomly assigned to air born particle abrasion with aluminum oxide (Al₂O₃) or hot etching with potassium hydrogen difluoride (KHF₂). Lithium disilicate rods (LDS; n = 50) etched with hydrofluoric acid served as reference material. In Part 1 of the study, ceramic rods were cemented to bovine dentin using 5 dual-polymerizing resin cements (Variolink Esthetic, Multilink Automix (Ivoclar Vivadent), Duo-Link (BISCO Dental), Panavia F2.0 (Kuraray Dental), RelyX Unicem (3 M)). Shear bond strength was tested and fracture morphology determined. In Part 2 of the study, test groups with the highest frequency of adhesive fractures between cement and dentin were selected for further bond strength testing with different surface roughness of dentin; ground with P1200 or P80 silicon carbide paper. Dentin samples were fractured vertically to the cemented surface and the adherence between cement and dentin was studied.

Results: The results of Part 1 showed that hot etching of zirconia significantly improved bond strength to Duo-Link cement. In Part 2, RelyX Unicem showed significantly higher bond strength to P1200 compared to P80 ground dentin. For Variolink Esthetic, bond strengths to P1200 and P80 ground dentin were similar. Adhesive fracture between cement and dentin dominated.

Conclusions: A smooth dentin surface (P1200) improved bond strength to RelyX Unicem. Surface roughness was not important for Variolink Esthetic.

Effects of surface modification techniques on zirconia substrates and their effect on bonding to dual cure resin cement - An in- vitro study

Aim

This study aims to evaluate the effect of different surface treatments of monolithic zirconia on the bond strength of resin to zirconia and, to explore alternative methods to improve this bonding.

Settings and Design

In-Vitro study.

Materials and Methods

Fifty rectangular sintered blocks of Yttria-stabilized Tetragonal Zirconia Polycrystal ceramics of dimensions were milled and sintered. These specimens were further divided into five groups (control, air abrasion, etching with primer application, air abrasion with primer application and novel glass infiltrated zirconia surface group), containing 10 samples each. The specimens were analyzed for surface roughness, tensile bond strength to resin cements, and adhesive and cohesive mode of failures.

Statistical Analysis Used

ANOVA and Post-Hoc Tukey test was perform to evaluate the significant differences in the mean values of the groups.

Results

Air-abraded samples showed the highest surface roughness (4.95 ± 0.65) (P < 0.05). The group with air abrasion followed by primer application showed the highest tensile bond strength (7.12 ± 0.69) (P < 0.05). The lowest surface roughness (0.638 ± 0.8093) and tensile bond strength (2.03 ± 0.58) was seen in samples that were subjected to etchant treatment followed by application of methacryloyloxydecyl di-hydrogen phosphate (MDP) primer. The changes in comparison to the control group were statistically insignificant (P > 0.05). Except Groups A (control) and C (etchant followed by primer), all other groups showed a cohesive failure.

Conclusion

Air abrasion of the zirconia surface with 50 μm alumina particles increases the surface roughness without damaging the surface. Air abrasion followed by MDP primer application is the recommended method of surface treatment to achieve superior bonding. Glass infiltration also showed promising results in terms of tensile bond strength.

Effect of different surface treatments on surface roughness, phase transformation, and biaxial flexural strength of dental zirconia

Background. Interfacial failures at the cement‒restoration interface highlights the importance of effective surface treatment with no adverse effect on the zirconia’s mechanical properties. This study aimed to determine the effect of different surface treatments on dental graded zirconia’s surface roughness and certain mechanical properties.

Methods. Forty sintered zirconia specimens were randomly divided into four groups (n=10): control (no surface treatment), sandblasting (SA), grinding with diamond bur (GB), and Er,Cr:YSGG laser (LS). Following surface treatment, the surface roughness and surface topography of the specimens were examined. X-ray diffraction (XRD) was conducted. In addition, the biaxial flexural strengths of specimens were evaluated. The data were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and post hoc Tukey tests; the Pearson correlation coefficient was calculated between either volumetric percentage of monoclinic phase or roughness and flexural strength of specimens (α=0.05).

Results. The GB group exhibited significantly greater surface roughness compared to the other groups (P < 0.005). The LS and control groups exhibited a significantly lower volumetric percentage of the monoclinic phase (P < 0.001) than the GB and SA treatments. The SA group exhibited significantly higher flexural strength than the control (P = 0.02) and GB groups (P < 0.01). Furthermore, the Weibull analysis for the LS showed higher reliability for the flexural strength than other treatments.

Conclusion. Er,Cr:YSGG laser treatment, with the lowest extent of phase transformation and reliable flexural strength, can be a promising choice for surface treatment of zirconia.

Pre-cementation procedures' effect on dental zirconias with different yttria content

OBJECTVE

Several pre-cementation procedures have been advocated to enhance adhesion between zirconia and resin-based cement. There is, however, limited documentation on how these pre-treatments affect the strength of zirconia crowns as most tests are performed on discs or bars. The aim was to assess the effect of pre-cementation procedures on fracture mode, fracture strength and cement retention on zirconia.

METHODS

Two dental zirconia materials with different yttria content were assessed (<4 and>5 mol%). Both discs (n = 45) and crown-shaped specimens (n = 30) of the two materials were pretreated with either air-abrasion or hot-etching with KHF₂ and compared with untreated controls with regards to surface roughness, crystallography, wettability, cement adhesion and fracture strength.

RESULTS AND SIGNIFICANCE

Air-abrasion improves adhesion and strength of zirconia with moderate yttria content (<4 mol%). Acid etching with heated KHF₂ showed the best effect on strength and cement retention on zirconia with higher yttria content (>5 mol%). Application of KHF₂ was, however, complicated on crown-shaped specimens. Pre-treatment and cementation protocols should be optimized for different dental zirconias to improve both strength and retention.

The influence of the resin-based cement layer on ceramic-dentin bond strength

The purpose of the study was to measure the cement thickness obtained when ceramic rods were luted to dentin and to analyze the relation between cement thickness and the previously published tensile bond strength of similar test specimens. In addition, the ISO standard 4049:2019 method was used to determine the film thickness of the used cements. Zirconia (n = 100) and lithium disilicate (n = 50) rods were cemented to bovine dentin using one of five different resin-based cements. The ceramic-dentin test specimens were cut into two slices and the cement thickness was measured using a scanning electron microscope and compared to the bond strength values of similar specimens already published. The mean cement thickness recorded for ceramic rods cemented to dentin was in the range 20-40 μm, which was larger than the cement film thickness found by the ISO method. The cement film thickness determined according to ISO standard methods did not concur with the results obtained when cementing ceramic rods to dentin. For cementing ceramic restorations, a cement thickness in the range 25-35 μm seems to be favorable for the bond strength.

Effect of potassium hydrogen difluoride in zirconia-to-resin bonding

The objective of this study was to compare potassium hydrogen difluoride (KHF₂) etching for zirconia with commonly used surface roughening and chemical bonding methods (silane, MDP-monomer primer) for resin-based luting cement bonding to zirconia. Zirconia specimens were divided into six groups (n=10) according to surface treatment and bonding procedures, with and without thermocycling (6,000 cycles, 5-55ºC): 1) air-borne particle abrasion with alumina+MDP-monomer (ABP), 2) air-borne particle abrasion with silica-coated trialuminium trioxide+silane (ABPR-S) and 3) KHF₂ etching+silane (ETC). Surface roughness and bond strength (SBS-test) for dry and thermocycled specimens were measured. SBS did not vary statistically between the dry groups, but thermocycling decreased the bond strengths of all the tested methods (p<0.05). After thermocycling, ABP had statistically significantly lower bond strength values compared to ABPR-S and ETC (p<0.05). Etching method with KHF₂ did not provide better bonding capacity to previously introduced and commonly adopted bonding methods.

Effect of airborne-particle abrasion and polishing on novel translucent zirconias: Surface morphology, phase transformation and insights into bonding

PURPOSE

The purpose this study was to investigate the effect of Kern´s air-borne particle abrasion protocol (KAPA) and polishing on two translucent zirconias (4Y, 5Y-zirconias) compared to a traditional zirconia (3Y-zirconia).

METHODS

Two different surface treatments were analysed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and interferometry 1) KAPA (0.1 MPa, 50 μm alumina, 10-12 mm distance, 15 sec and 30 sec and cleaning in ultrasound using isopropyl alcohol 99%) and 2) Clinical-delivery polishing paste (Zircon Brite, Dental Ventures, USA). Shear-bond strength tests (SBS's) were performed with a highly polished and virtually flat surface in combination with a 10-MDP based cement and a surface modified by KAPA in combination with zinc phosphate cement. The SBS was expressed in terms of MPa.

RESULTS

The mean values for monoclinic content were 13 wt%, 7 wt% and 2 wt% for 3Y-, 4Y- and 5Y-zirconias respectively, no differences were found between 15 and 30 seconds. Polishing did not result in phase transformation to monoclinic phase in any of the zirconias. The rhombohedral phase was identified in all types of zirconias regardless of surface treatment. Shear-bond strength tests showed 5 MPa for polished/10-MDP based cement and 3 MPa for KAPA/ Zinc phosphate. Statistically significant differences were found between the two different surface treatments but not between the types of zirconias.

CONCLUSIONS

KAPA for 15 sec seems to be equal to 30 sec regarding morphology and phase transformation. Sole micro-retention appears not to be fully responsible for the bonding phenomena of 10-MDP and zirconia that underwent KAPA.

Preparation of a Novel Transplant Material, Zirconium Oxide (ZrO₂) Nanotubes, and Characterizations Research

Background

Zirconia is one of the most widely used ceramic materials for transplanting and treating caries. This study aimed to synthesize zirconium oxide (ZrO₂) nanotubes and evaluated their characteristics.

Material/Methods

Zr film was prepared using an ion plating method. Nanoarray film was constructed with anodizing. Photocatalytic properties of nnanotubes were assessed by evaluating decolorization of methyl orange. Elemental analysis and structural morphology for coatings were evaluated using x-ray analysis and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Dimensions for layers were measured with SEM imaging. X-ray diffraction (XRD) was measured using Empyrean x-ray diffractometry.

Results

There were irregular cavities on the surface of ZrO₂ nanotubes undergoing anodizing of 30V. Anodizing voltage of 45 V (with regular nano-pore arrays and smooth nanotube walls) and anodic oxidation duration of 60 min (ZrO₂ nanotubes clearly formed atop ZrO₂-coated substrate surface) were the optimal condition for ZrO₂ nanotube formation. TEM illustrated tube length of ZrO₂ nanotubes was approximately 2.01 μm. Nanotube diameter was 51.06 nm, and wall thickness was 13 to 14 nm. Annealed nanotubes showed an obvious crystal diffraction pattern. TEM diffraction ring showed nanotube array without obvious transistor structure before annealing, but with good crystallinity post-annealing. Increased annealing temperatures result in enhanced intensity for the monoclinic phase (400–800°C). After annealing at 600°C, the decolorization effect of ZrO₂ nanotubes on methyl orange was better than that post-annealing at 400 and 800°C. ZrO₂ nanotubes demonstrated higher microshear bond strength.

Conclusions

Zirconium nanotubes were successfully synthesized and demonstrated good structural characteristics, which can be applied to transplanting and treating caries.

Comparison of sandblasted, ground and melt-etched zirconia crowns regarding adhesion strength to resin cement

Objectives: The aim is to compare the adhesion between zirconia and cements attained with melt-etching with potassium hydrogen difluoride, KHF₂, with that found when such traditional surface treatments as sandblasting and ceramic stone grinding are employed.

Materials and methods: Groups of zirconia crowns where treated by sandblasting (n = 6), grinding with carbide bur (n = 6) or melt-etching with KHF₂ (n = 6) of the surface before cementation with a resin cement to an implant substitute made by Selective Laser Melting of a cobalt-chromium alloy. Tensile testing was performed to rupture, while measured increasing load at the zirconia-cement interface. The strength was calculated by dividing the rupture load with the contact area. The three groups were compared using one-way ANOVA.

Results: The adhesion strength between the zirconia crowns and the cement resulted in significant differences between all groups (p < .05). The sandblasted group had the lowest strength (5.2 ± 0.95 MPa), the ground group significantly higher (7.3 ± 1.49 MPa) and the melt-etched group the highest values (9.8 ± 1.37 MPa).

Conclusion: The adhesive strength of resin cement to zirconia can be ranked according to the surface preparation with surfaces melt-etched with KHF₂ stronger than ground which is stronger than sandblasted.

Effect of etching with potassium hydrogen difluoride and ammonium hydrogen difluoride on bonding of a tri-n-butylborane initiated resin to zirconia

The purpose of the current study was to evaluate the effect of etching with potassium hydrogen difluoride (KHF₂) and ammonium hydrogen difluoride (NH₄HF₂) on the bond strength of a self-polymerizing methyl methacrylate resin (MMA-TBB) bonded to zirconia. Zirconia disks were prepared using the following surface treatment: no treatment, alumina blasting, and etching with KHF₂ or NH₄HF₂. The specimens were bonded with the MMA-TBB. The shear bond (Ø=5 mm) strength was measured. The surface free energies of the specimens were determined by measuring contact angles. The KHF₂ and NH₄HF₂ groups exhibited higher shear bond strength and surface free energy than did the alumina blasting and no treatment groups. Compared with alumina blasting, etching with KHF₂ and NH₄HF₂ exhibited superior bonding ability of mechanical retention to zirconia.

A new approach for Y-TZP surface treatment: evaluations of roughness and bond strength to resin cemen

OBJECTIVE

This study aims to evaluate the effect of sonochemical treatment on the surface of yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia (Y-TZP) before and after the final sintering.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

Twenty-eight Y-TZP discs were divided into four groups (n=7), according to surface treatment: PRE: pre-sintering sonication with 30% nominal power for 15 min; POS: post-sintering sonication with 30% nominal power for 15 min; JAT: air abrasion with 50-μm alumina particles; and CON: control group with no treatment. The POS and JAT groups were sintered before sonication and the PRE group after sonication. Surface roughness was analyzed using confocal microscopy, after which resin cement cylinders were placed on the surface of the Y-TZP discs and subjected to mechanical microshear bond strength test until fracture. Surface roughness and microshear bond strength values underwent ANOVA and the Tukey tests.

RESULTS

The surface roughness values for the PRE group (299.91 nm) and the POS group (291.23 nm) were not significantly different (p≥0.05), statistically, and the surface roughness value of the JAT group (925.21 nm) was higher than those of PRE and POS (p=0.007) groups. The mechanical microshear bond strength test showed that there was no statistically significant difference between the groups (p=0.08).

CONCLUSIONS

Therefore, the results showed that sonochemical treatment modifies the Y-TZP surface and is similar to the well-established sandblasting surface treatment regarding the strength of the bond with the resin cement.

Effects of MDP-based primers on shear bond strength between resin cement and zirconia

Yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystal (Y-TZP) ceramics are widely used for fixed dental prostheses and dental implants. Various primers have been introduced to enhance the bonding strength of zirconia crowns. The aim of current study was to analyze the effects of 10-methacryloyloxydecyl dihydrogen phosphate (MDP) primers on the shear bond strength between zirconia crowns and resin cement were assessed. The total sample size included 90 samples of Y-TZP ceramic surfaces. Samples in group I were abraded with aluminum oxide. Samples in groups II and III were abraded and primed with the zirconia and Z-PrimePlus MDP primers, respectively. Group IV samples did not undergo any treatment or application. Group V and VI samples did not undergo any abrasion but were primed with zirconia and Z-PrimePlus MDP primers, respectively. Prior to bonding of the resin cement, the primers were applied for 1 min and air-dried. Then, Clearfil SA luting self-adhesive resin cement was coated onto the zirconia crowns. The highest bond strength was achieved in group III, followed by group II, and group IV exhibited the lowest bond strength between Y-TZP ceramic and adhesive resin cement. Therefore, the application of MDP primers yielded greater bond strength between Y-TZP ceramics and adhesive resin cement, compared with the group without the use of primers.

Debonding mechanism of zirconia and lithium disilicate resin cemented to dentin

To evaluate debonding mechanism of zirconia and lithium disilicate cemented to dentin mimicking what could occur in a clinical setting. A null hypothesis of no difference in tensile bond strength between groups of zirconia and lithium disilicate cemented with resin cements was also tested. Zirconia rods (n = 100) were randomly assigned to two different surface treatment groups; air borne particle abrasion and hot etching by potassium hydrogen difluoride (KHF₂). Lithium disilicate rods (n = 50) were surface etched by hydrofluoric acid (HF). Five different dual cure resin cements were used for cementing rods to bovine dentin. Ten rods of each test group were cemented with each cement. Test specimens were thermocycled before tensile bond strength testing. Fracture morphology was visualized by light microscope. Mean surface roughness (Sa value) was calculated for randomly selected rods. Cohesive fracture in cement was the most frequent observed fracture morphology. Combination of adhesive and cohesive fractures were second most common. Fracture characterized as an adhesive between rod and cement was not observed for KHF₂ etched zirconia. Highest mean tensile bond strength was observed when cementing air borne particle abraded zirconia with Variolink Esthetic (Ivoclar Vivadent). All surface treatments resulted in Sa values that were significant different from each other. The number of cohesive cement fractures observed suggested that the cement was the weakest link in bonding of zirconia and lithium disilicate.

Zirconia Primers Improve the Shear Bond Strength of Dental Zirconia

PURPOSE

Various resin cements and priming agents are available for adhesive luting of zirconia restorations. The purpose of this study was to investigate how cement type and priming protocol affect the shear bond strength on zirconia ceramics.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

Yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystalline ceramic cylinders were bonded to flat zirconia ceramic surfaces using 7 commercially available resin cements. Ten specimens of each cement group were pretreated with a universal primer, and 10 specimens per group were bonded without pretreatment. In addition, 10 specimens per group were pretreated with system-specific zirconia primers, which were available for 3 cements. Altogether, 170 bonded specimens were water-stored, thermal-cycled, and then submitted to shear bond strength tests. The shear bond strength and the fracture types were documented. Differences in shear bond strengths were assessed using 2-way ANOVA with post-hoc test (α = 0.05). A point-biserial correlation was run between the fracture patterns and the shear bond strengths.

RESULTS

The mean shear bond strengths of cements in the unprimed group showed large variations between 2.52 ± 3.01 (mean ± SD) MPa and 33.15 ± 7.35 MPa. Pretreating the specimens with a universal primer improved the shear bond strengths significantly in all groups (p < 0.05) with a range of 21.80 ± 12.51 to 57.20 ± 11.40 MPa. The system-specific primers also improved the shear bond strength significantly, compared to the unprimed group (p < 0.01); however, only one system-specific primer achieved a shear bond strength superior to the universal primer (p < 0.01). There was also a statistical correlation between the fracture type and the shear bond strength (p < 0.0005), with cohesively fractured specimens showing higher shear bond strengths (37.24 ± 19.87 MPa) than adhesively fractured specimens (23.10 ± 17.65 MPa) (p < 0.001).

CONCLUSION

Using universal primer can enhance the maximal shear bond strength of zirconia.
