Abstract
The second most abundant natural polymer in the earth's crust is chitosan (CS). The unique physical, chemical, structural, and mechanical features of this natural polymer have led to its increased application in a variety of fields such as medicine, catalysis, removal of pollutants, etc. To eliminate various pollutants, it is preferable to employ natural compounds as their use aids the removal of contaminants from the environment. Consequently, employing CS to eliminate contaminants is a viable choice. For this aim, CS can be applied as a template and support for metal nanoparticles (MNPs) and prevent the accumulation of MNPs as well as a reducing and stabilizing agent for the fabrication of MNPs. Among the pollutants present in nature, nitro compounds are an important and wide category of biological pollutants. 4-Nitrophenol (4-NP) is one of the nitro pollutants. There are different ways for the removal of 4-NP, but the best and most effective method for this purpose is the application of a metallic catalyst and a reducing agent. In this review, we report the recent developments regarding CS-supported metallic (nano)catalysts for the reduction of nitroaromatics such as nitrophenols, nitroaniline compounds, nitrobenzene, etc. in the presence of reducing agents. The metals investigated in this study include Ag, Au, Ni, Cu, Ru, Pt, Pd, etc.

Abstract
The hydrogenation of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) has attracted much attention, since it is typically used as a model reaction for evaluating newly developed catalysts, but its mechanism is still debated. Herein, Co(OH)2-modified CuO catalyst (Co(OH)2/CuO) was used for the reduction of 4-NP to 4-aminophenol (4-AP) in an aqueous sodium borohydride (NaBH4) solution. The reaction mechanism was investigated by UV-Vis spectroscopy (UV-Vis), high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), HPLC-Q-orbitrap high-resolution mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), and 1HNMR spectroscopy (1HNMR) as an integrated technology at different concentrations of NaBH4. Samples were taken at specified time intervals and monitored using UV-Vis, HPLC, LC-MS/MS, and 1HNMR. With the help of comprehensive analysis, eight intermediates, including azo and azoxy compounds, were effectively captured, and the variation tendency of each intermediate was determined, revealing that the hydrogenation of 4-NP proceeds via a coexistence of the direct and condensation routes. The integrated analysis methods were powerful technical supports for the study of the catalysis mechanism.

Abstract
Wood ash is a naturally alkaline derived substance containing organic and inorganic constituents. This study investigates the catalytic activity of wood ash as a heterogeneous catalyst for the synthesis of benzochromene derivatives. Several wood ash catalysts, comprising calcium- and potassium-rich carbonates, were prepared from different natural resources under various combustion temperatures. The prepared catalysts were characterized by Fourier transform infrared, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray analysis, transmission electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction techniques. Catalytic efficiency of the resultant catalysts was tested in the synthesis of benzochromene derivatives. The experimental studies clarified that the catalyst prepared at 850 °C could efficiently expedite the formation of three-component synthesis of benzochromene derivatives in water at 80 °C with high yields. Indeed, alkali, alkaline metal, and metal oxides such as Al2O3, SiO2, MgO, CaO, and Fe2O3, are widely utilized as both catalyst and catalyst support in the heterogeneous catalytic processes. The prepared wood ash catalysts (possessing metal oxides, e.g., CuO, Al2O3, SiO2, and CaO) could effectively prompt the electrophilic activity of the carbonyl groups during the nucleophilic attack intermediate, enhancing the efficiency of the reactions.

Abstract
Direct consideration for both, the catalytically active species and the host materials provides highly efficient strategies for the architecture design of nanostructured catalysts. The conventional wet chemical methods have limitations in achieving such unique layer-by-layer design possessing one body framework with many catalyst parts. Herein, an innovative physical method is presented that allows the well-regulated architecture design for an array of functional nanocatalysts as exemplified by layer-by-layer adornment of Pd nanoparticles (NPs) on the highly arrayed silica nanorods. This spatially confined catalyst exhibits excellent efficiency for the hydrogenation of nitroarenes and widely deployed Suzuki cross-coupling reactions; their facile separation from the reaction mixtures is easily accomplished due to the monolithic structure. The generality of this method for the introduction of other metal source has also been demonstrated with Au NPs. This pioneering effort highlights the feasibility of physically controlled architecture design of nanostructured catalysts which may stimulate further studies in the general domain of the heterogeneous catalytic transformations.

Abstract
Artificially mimicking structures/morphologies available in the nature to develop multifunctional materials for catalysis is receiving greater attention. Particularly, the burdock flower morphology, which has a hollow-globe surrounded by spiky sheets, represents a multifunctional structure helpful in adsorption as well as intercalation of molecules. Given this, we have strategically developed a robust microwave (MW) bubble-template process to achieve highly uniform α-Fe2O3 and carbon-enriched Fe3O4 (Fe3O4@C) phases resembling the characteristics of spiky hollow burdock morphologies. The utilization of the MW bubble-templates as a pretreatment to the iron-based precursor solution helps in producing hollowed open-space ferrous glycolate burdock flower morphology with rapid production rate and without any addition of extra agents. Such burdock flower structures remain intact even after annealing in air/N2 ambiance providing highly photoactive α-Fe2O3 or magnetic Fe3O4@C, respectively. Utilizing the hollow burdock flower structures together with the individual photo/magnetic properties of iron oxide phases, a dual-layer filter was designed to remove hazardous dye molecules from water, which efficiently photodegraded (99.2 %) in natural sunlight as well as showed excellent adsorption (99.7 %) within minutes. Comparatively, a lower catalytic activity using simple iron oxide nanoparticles, closed, and faded burdock morphologies were seen. Hence, the high catalytic activity in removing the dye molecules, retention of structural phases after repeated use, and strong durability were a result of the synergetic effect of photo/magnetic properties, activated surface/spiky open burdock structure.

Abstract
Complex physical and chemical interactions take place in drug delivery using nanotube structures. Various descriptions of the ultrastructural arrangement to various nanotube design features ranging from geometries to surface modifications on the nano levels have been put forward. In this work, molecular dynamics simulations were applied to understand the boron nitride nanotube (BNNT) performance for drug delivery applications. Here, we have carried out the molecular dynamic (MD) simulation using the Tersoff force field to obtaining optimum performance of BNNT and fullerene molecules for the first time. The result of the equilibrated system accomplished excellent stability of BNNT during MD simulation, which proves the appropriateness of chosen force field. Furthermore, to describe the BNNT nano pumping process, we have calculated the fullerene molecule's velocity and translational/rotational kinetic energy. Numerically, by increasing simulated structures' temperature from 275 to 350 K, the nano pumping time varies from 9.31 to 8.55 ps. Moreover, the outcoming results indicate that atomic wave production in BNNT is an essential parameter for the nano pumping process. Therefore, with the help of the simulation result, we succeed in decreasing the nano pumping time to 7.79 ps by adjusting the nano pumping process parameters. Our study revealed the molecular-level dispersion mechanism of BNNT as a drug delivery tool. Concerning the medical applications of fullerenes as drug molecules, including antiviral activity, antioxidant activity, and drug delivery use, the current study can shed light on the understanding of the dispersion of nanotubes to optimize the process for several biomedical applications.

Abstract
In this work, a PCN/Fe2O3/CdS ternary heterojuction photocatalyst was constructed by introducing an appropriate amount of ferric oxide (Fe2O3) and cadmium sulfide (CdS) onto porous carbon nitride (PCN), denoted as PCN/Fe2O3/CdS. In the presence of PCN/Fe2O3/CdS, the turnover frequency value and selectivity of the oxidative coupling reaction of benzylamine were 6740 μmol g-1 h-1 and 99.4%, respectively. The excellent catalytic performance of the PCN/Fe2O3/CdS photocatalyst is attributed to fully exposed active sites due to the porous structure of PCN, improved light utilization efficiency by introduction of Fe2O3 and CdS, and increased mobility of e--h+ pairs by construction of a ternary heterostructure, and was proved by the analysis of its structural and optical properties. According to the substrate scope study and Hammett diagram analysis, the rate determining step of the benzylamine self-coupling reaction photocatalyzed by PCN/Fe2O3/CdS was the condensation of imine and benzylamine into N-benzylidenebenzylamine. The results of the free radical quenching experiment and electron spin resonance tests showed that h+ played a major role in the photoreaction process, followed by ˙O2- and ˙OH. After four photocatalytic reaction cycles, the catalytic performance of the PCN/Fe2O3/CdS heterojunction composite material remained good. Finally, combined with the free radical trapping experiment and energy band structure analysis, a possible double Z-type reaction mechanism was proposed.
