Abstract
The toxicity of D. tripetala fruit extract to mice was investigated using data obtained from lipidomic analyses, comet and Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) assays. Mice (n = 8) were exposed for 30 days via oral gavage to vehicle (5% Tween 80) (negative control), D. tripetala extract (100, 200 and 400 mg/kg) and 40 mg/kg methyl methanesulfonate (MMS) (positive control). The profile of compounds in the fruit extract was analyzed using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Out of the total of 32 compounds identified, considerable amount of established insecticidal compounds such as 2-phenylnitroethane, cis-vaccenic acid, linalool and linoleic acid were detected. Fruit extract did not induce DNA damage relative to negative control. Percentage gain in body weights differed significantly across the four weeks. Significantly highest and lowest brain AChE activity was observed in animals exposed to 200 and 400 mg/kg D. tripetala, respectively. Fruit extract modulated the brain phospholipid profile due to significant fold changes of 48 lipid species out of the total of 280 lipid species. High number of differentially expressed phosphatidylcholine (PC) species and significant levels of phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) at 400 mg/kg suggests that activation of inflammation and methylation pathways are the most plausible mechanisms of D. tripetala toxicity to mouse brain tissue.

The Toxicity of Eichhornia crassipes Fractionated Extracts against Aphis craccivora and Its Safety in Albino Rats. Toxins (Basel) 2022; 14:toxins14050327. Abstract
Eichhornia crassipes were evaluated in order to investigate the insecticidal activity towards Aphis craccivora adults. The LC50 values were promising and reflected the bio-efficacy of the tested extracts (39 and 42 mg/L), respectively, and reduced the fecundity markedly. Using GC/MS analysis, the major components were n-hexadecanoic, linolenic, hexadecenoic, myristic, stearic acids, linolelaidic acid, methyl ester and some terpenoids, alkaloids, and hydrocarbons. A safety assessment of non-target organisms is essential for the development of new pesticides. In order to guide the rational use of the most potential insecticidal extracts AcF and EtF, the effect of these extracts on body weight, hematological indices, biochemical indicators, and histopathology of some relevant organs of albino rats (as a model for mammals) was investigated. The research outcomes revealed that the LC50 of AcF and EtF extracts had gradually raised body weight for 14 days (p > 0.05). Similarly, there were no remarkable alternations in the complete blood count (CBC); only a slight decrease in the monocytes count (612 ± 159.80 × 103 µL) in the EtF-treated group. There was a notable increase in alanine transferase (ALT) activity (36.73 ± 1.44 IU/L) in the AcF-treated group. No destructive changes were noted with the remaining biochemical parameters. Cholesterol and triglycerides non-significantly increased in the EtF group, whereas, cholesterol levels decreased significantly in the AcF group. In addition, histopathological examination reflected minor changes in AcF and EtF groups in the form of mild inflammation in the lungs and mild vacuolar degeneration in the kidneys, while no lesions were detected in the heart and liver in the same groups. Thus, the present research suggested that AcF and EtF extracts of E. crassipes are safe green insecticides for insect control strategies.

Abstract
Dennettia tripetala, better known as 'pepperfruit', is a medicinal plant consumed in West Africa. D. tripetala possesses strong antioxidant properties and contains uvariopsine, an alkaloid which improves bile secretion and liver function. In the present study, the ethanolic extract of D. tripetala fruits was tested for its ability to alleviate pathophysiological conditions bordering on oxidative stress, including protein and lipid dyshomeostasis, inflammation, and hepatic and glomerular injury. Male albino Wistar rats were administered carbon tetrachloride twice a week for two weeks, and the ethanolic extract of D. tripetala fruits was administered from days 8∼14. The serum, liver, and kidneys of the rats were then subjected to biochemical assays and imaging. The extract restored the activities of liver marker enzymes in serum and the concentrations of lipids and proteins in both circulation and the liver to normal. The extract also restored the activities of antioxidant enzymes in liver and kidneys, and the concentrations of urea and creatinine in the blood. The extract also repaired the altered structures of the liver and kidney. Overall, D. tripetala elicited strong medicinal effects in rats. This study showed that the fruits of D. tripetala contain substances that could be extracted or synthesized for use in drugs for the treatment of liver and kidney disease.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Mulberry (Morus alba L.) is a cultivated shrub grown widely in the sub-tropical and tropical areas. It has been shown that mulberry leaf contains high levels of protein while having polyphenols as phytonutrients. Therefore, it is important to conduct an experiment to assess potential toxic level from mulberry on behavior, blood hematological and coagulation parameter using Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats. METHODS Both male and female SD rats were given an intragastric administration of respective treatments of mulberry leaf intakes (control, low and high levels). Parameters of feed intake, hematological and coagulation of blood parameters, as well as liveweight changes were taken during the 7 d of adaptation, 28 d of treatment exposure, and 14 d of recovery periods, respectively. All treatment data were statistically analyzed using analysis of variance of SPSS17.0 for Windows Statistical Software following the Randomized complete block design with sex as a block. RESULTS Most of the parameters of the physical symptoms of the SD rats, were not significantly different (p>0.05) when compared with that of the control group. Those which remain unchanged in each dose group were, body weight (BW) gain, feed intake, the hematology and coagulation indexes. Although, there were a few individual indicators that were abnormal, but the overall physiological appearance of the rats were normal. CONCLUSION Results under this experiment revealed that most hematological and coagulation parameters of the SD rats in both male and female were normal, although the weight gain of female rats in high-dose group was significantly reduced than those of the male rats. Under this study, the use of mulberry leaf up to 2 g/kg BW did not result in abnormal phenomenon in the SD rats. These findings would offer useful information for further in vivo feeding trials in animals to extensively use of mulberry leaf to improve animal production, particularly in P.R. China.

Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE Dennettia tripetala Baker f. belonging to the family Annonaceae is an important food and medicinal plant used in some local communities in Southwest Nigeria. AIMS OF THE STUDY The study aims at determining the chemical composition of the essential oil of different morphological parts of D. tripetala, the memory enhancing and anticholinesterase activities as well as the antimicrobial properties. MATERIALS AND METHODS Essential oil of the morphological parts namely the fresh fruits, dried fruits, dried seeds and fresh leaves were obtained by hydrodistillation and analysed by GC-FID and GC-MS. The oil samples were evaluated for memory enhancement using Y-maze and in vitro anticholinesterase activities. The antimicrobial properties were also evaluated by nutrient broth method. RESULTS GC analysis identifies β-ocimene, linalool, β-phenylnitroethane and humulene as common constituents of the fresh fruits, dried fruits, dried seeds and fresh leaves. β-Phenylnitroethane (BPNE) was the predominant constituent of all the parts; with the dried seed containing 87.4% BPNE, followed by the dried fruit (78.1%), fresh leaf (62.9%) and the fresh fruit content was 61.6%. The second most predominant constituent, linalool, was highest in the fresh fruit (29.9%), followed by the fresh leaf (16.0%), the dried fruit (14.9%) and the dried seed had least linalool content (8.8%). (Z)- β-Ocimene and humulene were other common components. The seed oil and BPNE exhibited high memory enhancing activities in the Y-maze test. However, the seed oil exhibited the best inhibition against the test bacteria and it had a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity. Bioactivities demonstrated by the various essential oils were not solely due to BPNE; rather, synergistic effects of other components are quite obvious. CONCLUSION The most abundant component - β-phenylnitroethane of D. tripetala was totally responsible for its memory enhancing properties but could not solely account for its antimicrobial activity.
