Abstract
BACKGROUND Hearing and vision difficulties are some of the most common deficits experienced by older adults. Having either visual or hearing difficulties increases the risk of comorbidity, disability, and poor quality of life. So far, however, few studies have examined the association between vision and hearing difficulties on life expectancy without activities of daily living (ADL) or instrumental ADL (IADL) limitations (LEWL). METHODS Data came from the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing and the Health and Retirement Study in the United States from 2002 to 2013. The outcome was defined as reporting 2+ limitations with ADL/IADL. Life expectancy was estimated by discrete-time multistate life table models for hearing and vision difficulties separately as well as for combined vision and hearing difficulties by sex and age. RESULTS Thirteen percent of men in England and the United States had ADL/IADL limitations, whereas, for women, it was 16% and 19% in England and the United States. At all ages, either vision or hearing difficulty was associated with shorter LEWL compared to no difficulties. Dual sensory difficulty (vision and hearing) reduced LEWL by up to 12 years in both countries. At the ages of 50 and 60 in England, hearing difficulty was associated with fewer years lived without ADL/IADL limitations than vision difficulty. In contrast, in the United States, vision difficulty led to fewer years lived without ADL/IADL limitations than hearing difficulty. CONCLUSIONS The implementation of strategies to reduce the prevalence and incidence of vision and hearing difficulties has the potential to increase the number of years spent without ADL/IADL limitations.

Abstract
Introduction Identifying individuals at high risk of dementia is critical to optimized clinical care, formulating effective preventative strategies, and determining eligibility for clinical trials. Since our previous systematic reviews in 2010 and 2015, there has been a surge in dementia risk prediction modelling. The aim of this study was to update our previous reviews to explore, and critically review, new developments in dementia risk modelling. Methods MEDLINE, Embase, Scopus, and Web of Science were searched from March 2014 to June 2022. Studies were included if they were population- or community-based cohorts (including electronic health record data), had developed a model for predicting late-life incident dementia, and included model performance indices such as discrimination, calibration, or external validation. Results In total, 9,209 articles were identified from the electronic search, of which 74 met the inclusion criteria. We found a substantial increase in the number of new models published from 2014 (>50 new models), including an increase in the number of models developed using machine learning. Over 450 unique predictor (component) variables have been tested. Nineteen studies (26%) undertook external validation of newly developed or existing models, with mixed results. For the first time, models have also been developed in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) and others validated in racial and ethnic minority groups. Conclusion The literature on dementia risk prediction modelling is rapidly evolving with new analytical developments and testing in LMICs. However, it is still challenging to make recommendations about which one model is the most suitable for routine use in a clinical setting. There is an urgent need to develop a suitable, robust, validated risk prediction model in the general population that can be widely implemented in clinical practice to improve dementia prevention.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are a recognized risk factor for unfavorable health outcomes. No prior systematic review has explored the association between ACEs and cognition in late life, a critical period for cognitive fluctuation. The objective of this review is to address the following research question: What is the association between ACEs and late-life cognition? RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS Articles were obtained from PubMed, PsycINFO, and Scopus. The last search was performed in May 2021. Eligible articles examined the association between exposure to at least 1 ACE and the outcome of late-life cognition, measured either by cognitive testing or the presence/absence of a neurocognitive disorder. Data were synthesized narratively using the synthesis without meta-analysis guidelines, and the risk of bias was assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS) and Adapted NOS. RESULTS Twenty articles representing 18 unique studies were included in the narrative synthesis. Associations with lower late-life cognition were reported for: childhood maternal death, parental divorce, physical neglect, emotional neglect, physical abuse, and combinations of ACEs. However, most results were statistically nonsignificant, and many were unlikely to be clinically important. DISCUSSION AND IMPLICATIONS We found an association between ACEs and late-life cognition. However, the direction and magnitude of association varied between and within types of ACEs and measures of cognitive function. Most included articles had a moderate risk of bias. This review is the first attempt to synthesize the literature on this topic and it outlines the next steps to improve the evidence base in the area.

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyze (a) population and socioeconomic factors affecting disability, excluding the occurrence of disability due to accidents and congenital diseases, and (b) health-related behavioral factors and factors that can prevent and reduce the cause of disability due to disease in Korea. This study was a longitudinal research. Data were obtained from The 2018 Korean Health Panel (KHP) is a survey jointly conducted by the Korea Institute of Health and Social Affairs and the National Health Insurance Service. A total of 7, 372 (Mage = 52.14, SD = 21.39; Male = 47.52%) were analyzed in this study. People with Higher education attainments and more income levels were associated with lower hazard of developing new disabilities (all p < 0.05). In this study, the health factors that could be related to the occurrence of new disabilities were smoking, alcohol consumption, physical activity, and stress (all p < 0.0001). However, physical activity was negatively associated with the risk of developing a disability at all follow-ups (p < 0.05). Higher scores on the number of chronic diseases (valid scores = 0, 1, 2, 3, or more) represented a greater level of newly developing disability present at all follow-ups (all p < 0.0001). This longitudinal study confirmed the relationship between health-related factors and specific chronic diseases. Its findings can be used as a crucial foundation for establishing healthcare policies and services that can lower and prevent disability by preventing and reducing specific negative health behaviors and unhealthy behavioral factors, and alleviating chronic diseases in Korea.

Abstract
With age-related functional deterioration, sensory impairment including vision impairment (VI), hearing impairment (HI), and dual sensory impairment (DSI) usually occurred among the elderly population, causing a decrease in functional capacity and quality of life. The study aimed to explore how sensory impairment is associated with the risk of all-cause mortality among the elderly adults in China. We prospectively investigated the association among 37,076 participants enrolled from 1998 to 2019 in the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey. We also, as a sensitivity analysis, explored the association among 11,365 newly incident sensory impairment participants. Cox regression model with sensory impairment as a time-varying exposure was performed to calculate the hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Compared with participants without sensory impairment, those with VI (HR=1.20, 95% CI: 1.15-1.24), HI (HR=1.26, 95% CI: 1.21-1.31), and DSI (HR: 1.46, 95% CI=1.41-1.52) had significant higher risk of all-cause mortality after adjusting for potential confounders. These associations were robust among subgroup analyses stratified by sex and entry age, and sensitivity analyses performed among newly incident sensory impairment participants. In conclusion, sensory impairment was associated with higher mortality risk among the elderly adults in China.
