Abstract
This study evaluated the impact of dietary digestible aromatic amino acid (DAAA) levels and stachyose on growth, nutrient utilization and cecal odorous compounds in broiler chickens. A 3×2 two-factor factorial design: Three dietary DAAA levels (1.40, 1.54, 1.68%) supplemented with either 5 g/kg of stachyose or without any stachyose were used to create 6 experimental diets. Each diet was fed to 6 replicates of 10 birds from d 22 to 42. Findings revealed that broilers receiving a diet with 1.54% DAAA levels supplemented with 5 g/kg stachyose exhibited a significant boost in average daily gain and improved utilization of crude protein, ether extract, tryptophan, and methionine compared to other diet treatments (P < 0.05). As the dietary DAAA levels increased, there was a significant rise in the concentrations of indole, skatole, p-methylphenol, and butyric acid in the cecum of broilers (P < 0.05). The addition of stachyose to diets reduced concentrations of indole, skatole, phenol, p-methylphenol, acetic acid and propionic acid in the cecum (P < 0.05). The lowest concentrations of indole, phenol, p-methylphenol, volatile fatty acids and pH in cecum of broilers were observed in the treatment which diet DAAA level was 1.40% with stachyose (P < 0.05). In conclusion, dietary DAAA levels and stachyose had significant interactions on the growth, main nutrient utilization and cecal odorous compounds in broilers. The dietary DAAA level was 1.54% with 5 g/kg of stachyose can improve the growth performance, nutrient utilization. However, the dietary DAAA level was 1.40% with stachyose was more beneficial to decrease the cecal odor compound composition in broilers.

Abstract
To ascertain an appropriate level of isoleucine for LSL-LITE layers (23- to 30-week-old), diets containing total isoleucine concentrations (levels) of 0.66 (Control), 0.69, 0.72, 0.75, 0.78, 0.81, and 0.84% were fed as 7 treatments (2730 kcal/kg metabolizable energy) x 7 replicates x 10 birds per replicate. Significance for performance, egg quality, serum biochemistry, and ileal digestibility of protein was determined at P ≤ 0.05. Level, week, and level*week (L*W) were significant for production, egg mass, and feed intake. Level and week were significant for FCR. Week was significant for weight gain. Level was significant for egg weight, specific gravity, and shell thickness; week was also significant for these external egg parameters as well as shape index and proportional shell thickness. L*W was significant for all except shape index. For internal egg measurements, level was significant for proportional yolk, proportional albumen, yolk index, and yolk:albumen. Week was significant for internal egg parameters while L*W significantly affected Haugh unit, proportional albumen weight, yolk index, albumen index, and yolk color. Level was significant for globulin and glucose in serum. Isoleucine at 0.72%, 0.81%, and 0.84% produced the lowest FCR, an important standard in the poultry industry. Considering the low FCR of 1.45 and cost for inclusion as a dietary ingredient, 0.72% isoleucine was chosen for further studies with varying quantities of other branched chain amino acids in diets for young laying hens.

Abstract
This review provides insight into the effects of the branched-chain amino acids (BCAA: leucine, isoleucine, and valine) on the growth, production performance, immunity, and intestinal health of poultry. Besides providing nitrogen substrates and carbon framework for energy homeostasis and transamination, BCAA also function as signaling molecules in the regulation of glucose, lipid, and protein synthesis via protein kinase B and as a mechanistic target of the rapamycin (AKT-mTOR) signaling pathway that is important for muscle accretion. The level of leucine is generally high in cereals and an imbalance in the ratio among the 3 BCAA in a low protein diet would produce a negative effect on poultry growth performance. This occurs due to the structural similarity of the 3 BCAA, which leads to metabolic competition and interference with the enzymatic degradation pathway. Emerging evidence shows that the inclusion of BCAA is essential for the proper functioning of the innate and adaptive immune system and the maintenance of intestinal mucosal integrity. The recommended levels of BCAA for poultry are outlined by NRC (1994), but commercial broilers and laying hen breed standards also determine their own recommended levels. In this review, it has been noted that the requirement for BCAA is influenced by the diet type, breed, and age of the birds. Additionally, several studies focused on the effects of BCAA in low protein diets as a strategy to reduce nitrogen excretion. Notably, there is limited research on the inclusion ratio of BCAA in a supplemental form as compared to the ingredient-bound form which would affect the dynamics of utilization in different disease-challenged conditions, especially those affecting digesta passage ratio. In summary, this review encompasses the role of BCAA as functional AA and discusses their physiological effects on the productivity and health of poultry. The observations and interpretations of this review can guide future research to adjust the recommended levels of BCAA in feeding programs in the absence of subtherapeutic antibiotics in poultry.

Abstract
Tryptophan is an essential amino acid for all animals that was discovered through casein hydrolysis. The use of tryptophan as feed additives has been attracting the attention of many nutritionists because it cannot be synthesized enough in an animal’s body. Tryptophan or precursor to the vitamin niacin in the diet is important, and its supplementation for poultry is determined to improve the amino acid balance and promote the poultry’s growth performance through enhancing appetite, feed efficiency, and protein synthesis. Moreover, poultry in different growth phases, breeding, and conditions require various amounts of tryptophan. In addition, supplemented tryptophan also improves the immune response or the immunomodulatory activity of poultry to various diseases through the kynurenine pathway, especially diseases in the bursa. Furthermore, tryptophan also has a strong relationship with lysine (the ideal tryptophan/lysine ratio) in improving growth performance. However, tryptophan deficiency could affect the behavioral responses (e.g. pecking behavior and poultry stress) because tryptophan serves as a precursor for the neurotransmitter serotonin and the pineal hormone melatonin in the diet. This paper tried to summarize all information about applying tryptophan in the diets and illustrate the roles of tryptophan in the poultry industry.

Abstract
BACKGROUND MicroRNAs (miRNAs) exist widely and are involved in multiple biological processes in ducks, whereas the regulatory mechanism of miRNAs in egg laying of ducks has remained unclear. This study aims to reveal key miRNAs involved in the regulation of egg production in duck ovaries. METHODS High-throughput sequencing was performed on four egg-type duck ovaries and four egg-meat-type duck ovaries at the start of the egg-laying stage. Quantitative reverse transcription PCR (qRT-PCR) validation was performed on differentially expressed miRNAs (DE miRNAs). Gene network of DEmiRNA-mRNA-pathway was constructed by Cytoscape. RESULTS A total of 251 know miRNAs and 1,972 novel miRNAs were obtained from whole clean reads. Among the known miRNAs, we identified 21 DEmiRNAs, including eight down-regulated and 13 up-regulated miRNAs in egg-type ducks compared with egg-meat-type ducks. Among the novel miRNAs, we identified 70 DEmiRNAs, including 58 down-regulated and 12 up-regulated in egg-type ducks compared with egg-meat-type ducks. The expression patterns of four miRNAs were verified by qRT-PCR. The DEmiRNAs were involved in the function of response to folic acid and the pathway of valine, leucine and isoleucine degradation. Specific target genes of DEmiRNAs enrichment was found in some egg-laying regulation pathways, such as dopaminergic synapse, ovarian steroidogenesis and oocyte meiosis. The DEmiRNA-mRNA-pathway network including three DEmiRNAs, nine mRNAs and 11 pathways. apl-miR-194-5p and apl-miR-215-5p may be potential key miRNAs in regulating egg laying. CONCLUSIONS This study provided miRNAs profiles in ducks about egg laying and establish a theoretical basis for subsequent selection or modification of duck phenotypes at the molecular level.

Abstract
Valine (Val) is considered to be the fifth-limiting amino acid in a maize-soyabean meal diet for pigs. Excess leucine (Leu) levels often occur in commercial diets, which may attenuate the effect of Val deficiency because of an increased oxidation of Val. The objective of the present experiment was to determine the effect of increasing concentrations of Leu on the response of young piglets to dietary Val. In all, 75 Large White×Landrace entire male pigs, 44 days of age and with a mean starting weight of 13.5 kg, were used. Three of these were sacrificed at the start to determine their mean initial chemical composition. A summit feed first limiting in Val was serially diluted with a non-protein diluent to produce a series of five digestible Val concentrations of 11.9, 10.1, 8.3, 6.6 and 4.8 g/kg, with a sixth treatment being added to test that the feeds were limiting in Val. Three identical Val series, each with six levels of Val, were supplemented with increasing amounts of Leu (23, 45 and 67 g/kg), thus 18 treatments in total. All pigs were killed at the end of the trial after 18 days for analysis of water, protein, lipid and ash in the carcass. The levels of Val and Leu and their interaction significantly influenced all the measurements taken in the trial. Daily gain in liveweight, water and protein, and feed conversion efficiency all increased with dietary Val content, whereas feed intake decreased as both Val and Leu contents increased. The deleterious effect of increased Leu on feed intake and growth was more marked at lower levels of Val. Supplementing the feed with the lowest Val content with additional Val largely overcame the effect of excess Leu. The efficiency of utilisation of Val for protein growth was unaffected by the level of Leu in the feed, the primary response to excess Leu being a reduction in feed intake. An intake of around 9 g Val/day yielded maximal protein growth during the period from 44 to 62 days of age in pigs of the genotype used in this trial.

Abstract
An ideal amino acid ratio (IAAR) for breeder hens is needed for maximum nitrogen retention (NR) taking into account nitrogen deposition in body (NDB ), feathers (NDF ) and egg mass (NEM) to improve dietary protein efficiency. Thus, the aim of this study was to apply the deletion method to derive the IAAR for broiler breeder hens. The nitrogen balance trials were performed from 31 to 35 weeks and from 46 to 50 weeks. Twelve treatments with eight replicates and one hen per cage were used. A balanced diet (BD) was formulated to meet the requirement of all nutrients. The other diets were formulated diluting 55% of BD with corn starch and refilled with amino acids (AAs) and other ingredients, except the AA tested. Each trial lasted 25 days. Feather losses, egg production and egg weight were recorded daily, and the samples were stored to further determine NEM and nitrogen in feather losses (NDFL ). At the start and the end of each period, a group of birds were slaughtered to further determine NDB and NDF . The NR was calculated as the sum of NDB , NDF , NDFL , NEM and the nitrogen maintenance requirement (NMR). The deletion of valine greatly depressed the NR in peak production (31 to 35 weeks) while the deletion of the isoleucine greatly depressed the NR of the hens from 46 to 50 weeks of age. The percentual reduction in NR and the per cent of the AA to delete from the BD were used to calculate the AA requirement. The average IAAR was Lys 100, Met+Cys 86, Trp 23, Thr 80, Arg 113, Val 90, Ile 91, Leu 133, Phe+Tyr 108, Gly+Ser 94 and His 35. The IAAR was in line with the recommendation from the literature, validating deletion method with the advantages from a rapid and low-cost procedure.

Abstract
SUMMARY To determine the ideal digestible tryptophan-to-digestible lysine ratio in diets for laying hens of 42 to 58 weeks of age, 240 Hy-Line W-36 hens at 42 weeks of age were distributed in a completely randomized design with five treatments, eight replicates and six birds per experimental unit. At 42 weeks of age, the birds were subjected to experimental treatments that consisted of diets with equal amounts of nutrients, except for the digestible tryptophan level. The digestible tryptophan levels in the experimental diets were 0.149, 0.160, 0.171, 0.182 and 0.193%, generating digestible tryptophan-to-digestible lysine ratios of 21.5, 23.1, 24.6, 26.2 and 27.8%. The digestible lysine level in the diets was sub-optimal (0.694%). The same ratios between lysine and the other amino acids were maintained in all experimental diets. The ideal digestible tryptophan-to-digestible lysine ratio was estimated through the studied parameters using analysis of variance and polynomial regression analysis (α = 0.05). The digestible tryptophan-to-digestible lysine ratio in diets quadratically affected egg production, egg mass, feed conversion per egg mass and use efficiency of digestible lysine for egg mass. However, there were no effect (P>0.05) on egg weight, feed conversion per dozen eggs, use efficiency of digestible lysine for number of eggs produced, percentage of egg components and weight gain. The digestible tryptophan-to-digestible lysine ratio estimated for theses parameters ranged from 23.6 to 24.3%. The digestible tryptophan-to-digestible lysine ratio recommended in diets for laying hens of 42 to 58 weeks of age is 24.3%.

Abstract
Three experiments were conducted to evaluate the applicability of the Taguchi method (TM) and optimisation algorithms to optimise the branch chain amino acids (BCAA) requirements in 0 to 7 d broiler chicks. In the first experiment, the standardised digestible (SID) amino acids and apparent metabolisable energy (AME) values of maize, wheat and soya bean meal were evaluated. In the second experiment, three factors including leucine (Leu), isoleucine (Ile) and valine (Val), each at 4 levels, were selected, and an orthogonal array layout of L16 (4(3)) using TM was performed. After data collection, optimisation of average daily gain (ADG) and feed conversion ratio (FCR) were obtained using TM. The multiobjective genetic algorithm (MOGA) and random search algorithm (RSA) were also applied to predict the optimal combination of BCAA for broiler performance. In the third experiment, a growth study was conducted to evaluate the applicability of obtained optimum BCAA requirements data by TM, MOGA and RSA, and results were compared with those of birds fed with a diet formulated according to Ross 308 recommendations. In the second experiment, the TM resulted in 13.45 g/kg SID Leu, 8.5 g/kg SID Ile and 10.45 g/kg SID Val as optimum level for maximum ADG (21.57 g/bird/d) and minimum FCR (1.11 g feed/g gain) in 0- to 7-d-old broiler chickens. MOGA predicted the following combinations: SID Leu = 14.8, SID Ile = 9.1 and SID Val = 10.3 for maximum ADG (22.05) and minimum FCR (1.11). The optimisation using RSA predicted Leu = 16.0, Ile = 9.5 and Val = 10.2 for maximum ADG (22.67), and Leu = 15.5, Ile = 9.0 and Val = 10.4 to achieve minimum FCR (1.08). The validation experiment confirmed that TM, MOGA and RSA yielded optimum determination of dietary amino acid requirements and improved ADG and FCR as compared to Aviagen recommendations. However, based on the live animal validation trial, MOGA and RSA overpredicted the optimum requirement as compared to TM. In general, the results of these studies showed that the TM may be used to optimise nutrient requirements for poultry.

Abstract
To explore the effects of the combination of tryptophan (Trp) and arginine (Arg) on growth performance, serum parameters and immune response of broiler chickens challenged with intermediate plus strain of infectious bursal disease virus vaccine, an in vivo experiment was conducted. A corn-soybean meal-based diet containing different levels of Arg and Trp was used. Cobb500 male broiler chickens from 0 to 49 days of age were subjected to a diet supplemented with the combination of Trp and Arg. Growth performance parameters and serum parameters were measured at 27 and 49 days of age. To evaluate the immunomodulatory effects of the combination of Trp and Arg on the challenged chickens, we measured the serum levels of interferon-α, interferon-γ and immunoglobulin G at 27, 35, 42, and 49 days of age. The results showed that the three evaluated immune system parameters including interferon-α, interferon-γ and immunoglobulin G were significantly enhanced after treatment. This enhancement resulted in the recovery of infectious bursal disease virus-infected chickens compared with controls as confirmed by histopathological examinations. Moreover, serum parameters such as albumin and total protein increased, whereas the treatment decreased (P<0.05) the feed:gain ratio, aspartate amino-transferase, alkaline phosphatase, lactic dehydrogenase, triglyceride and cholesterol. These findings suggest that the combination of Arg and Trp has a regulatory effect on growth performance. Moreover, it modulates the systemic immune response against infectious bursal disease.

Abstract
The response of White Pekin ducks to supplements of L-valine was studied during 3 wk posthatching. The basal valine concentration was 6.8 g/kg in a diet containing 18% CP and 2,990 kcal ME/kg (12.5 MJ ME/ kg). L-valine was supplemented in eight graded levels up to 12.7 g/kg at the expense of L-glutamic acid. Three pens of 14 ducks were allocated to each valine level. Diets were offered ad libitum. Body weight gain and feed/gain ratio were studied. At the end of wk 3, ducks were killed, processed to a homogenous mass, and analyzed for total body CP and amino acid content. Accretion of protein and amino acids was calculated. Additionally, a 5-d N balance study was conducted with separate ducks of the same hatch beginning on d 11 (6 ducks per treatment). The response of ducks to increasing valine concentration was described by exponential functions. Ducks significantly responded to the increasing valine concentration in growth, feed/gain ratio, and protein accretion. Ninety-five percent of y(max) in BW gain and protein accretion were achieved with 8.0 and 7.9 g valine/kg, respectively. The content of protein in gained BW was, on average, 149 g/kg without a significant valine effect. The valine content in accreted body protein was also unaffected by dietary valine (4.1 g/16 g N on average), which suggested that a major shift in body protein fractions did not occur. The overall efficiency of valine utilization was affected by dietary valine concentration and showed a maximum of 49%. Data from the balance study showed basically the same response of ducks, but the estimated optimum in dietary valine concentration was lower (7.0 g/kg). A comparison with published broiler data indicated that ducks and broilers in this age period were similar with regard to the valine content in gained protein and the efficiency of utilization of supplemented valine.
