Abstract
BACKGROUND Both the size of the older population and the use of complementary and alternative medicine are increasing worldwide. This study evaluated the long-term trend in utilization of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and associated factors among older people in Taiwan. METHODS Using the database of population-based interview surveys, we evaluated the one-month prevalence of TCM use among 13,945 older people aged over 65 years from 2001-2017. The sociodemographic status and medical comorbidities of older people who did and did not use TCM were compared by calculating adjusted odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) in the multiple logistic regressions. RESULTS The one-month prevalence of TCM use increased from 5.5% in 2001 to 9.1% in 2017 among older people in Taiwan. Overall, 7.3% of older people had used TCM within the previous month. People with a history of heart disease (OR 1.62, 95% CI 1.24-2.12), use of folk therapy (OR 3.16, 95% CI 2.00-4.99), and purchase of non-prescribed Chinese herbal medicine (OR 2.08, 95% CI 1.48-2.91) were more likely to use TCM than the comparison group. However, age ≥80 years (OR 0.48, 95% CI 0.31-0.72) and previous hospitalization (OR 0.59, 95% CI 0.41-0.85) were associated with the reduced use of TCM. CONCLUSION From 2001-2017, the use of TCM increased in the older population in Taiwan. The use of folk medicine and purchase of non-prescribed Chinese herbal medicine were significant predictors for the use of TCM.

Abstract
Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) is a prevalent form of neurological damage that may induce varying degrees of cognitive dysfunction in patients, consequently impacting their quality of life and social functioning. This article provides a mini review of the epidemiology in Chinese TBI patients and etiology of cognitive impairment. It analyzes the risk factors of cognitive impairment, discusses current management strategies for cognitive dysfunction in Chinese TBI patients, and summarizes the strengths and limitations of primary testing tools for TBI-related cognitive functions. Furthermore, the article offers a prospective analysis of future challenges and opportunities. Its objective is to contribute as a reference for the prevention and management of cognitive dysfunction in Chinese TBI patients.

Abstract
In Taiwan, the Integrated Home Care (IHC) project was introduced for medically compromised patients living at home receiving Home Health Care (HHC) in 2016. The focus of the project was on organizing care teams and managing care for patients. The aim of this study was to investigate the benefits and impacts of IHC in Taiwan. The primary outcome measure was the mortality rate of patients who received IHC versus those who did not receive IHC (non-IHC). The secondary outcomes were medical utilization and expenditure. The results showed that IHC was associated with a statistically significant reduction in mortality compared to non-IHC for home-dwelling patients over 90-, 180-, and 365-days periods. Additionally, IHC users were less likely to be hospitalized and had shorter hospitalization times compared to non-IHC users. Furthermore, IHC was found to reduce medical expenditure compared to non-IHC.

Effect of Early Cognitive Training Combined with Aerobic Exercise on Quality of Life and Cognitive Function Recovery of Patients with Poststroke Cognitive Impairment. Abstract
Objective To explore the effect of early cognitive training combined with aerobic exercise on quality of life (QOL) and cognitive function recovery of patients with poststroke cognitive impairment (PSCI). Methods Ninety PSCI patients treated in our hospital from April 2019 to April 2020 were selected as the subjects and were divided into the experimental group (EG) and control group (CG) according to the admission order, with 45 cases each. Patients in CG received conventional health education combined with rehabilitation training, and those in EG accepted early cognitive training combined with aerobic exercise so as to evaluate the clinical effect of different intervention modes on PSCI patients. Results Compared with CG after intervention, EG obtained an obviously higher Stroke Specific Quality of Life scale (SS-QOL) score, Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) score, Barthel Index (MBI) (BI) score and Functional Independence Measure (FIM) score (P < 0.001), and obviously shorter time for completing TMT-A and TMT-B (P < 0.001). Conclusion Performing early cognitive training combined with aerobic exercise for PSCI patients can effectively improve their QOL and promote the recovery of cognitive function. Compared with conventional health education combined with rehabilitation training, this mode presents a higher application value. Further study will be conducive to establishing a better solution for patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cognitive impairment is a common dysfunction after stroke that seriously affects the overall recovery of patients. Cognitive rehabilitation training is currently the main treatment to improve cognitive function, but its curative effect is limited. Acupuncture is a core component of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), and some previous clinical studies have shown that it might be effective in treating post-stroke cognitive impairment (PSCI), but further evidence from large-sample studies is needed. The overall objective of this trial is to obtain further data to develop an optimized acupuncture treatment for PSCI by comparing the effects of different acupuncture treatment methods on cognitive function in PSCI patients. METHODS/DESIGN In this multicenter, prospective, randomized controlled trial, 206 eligible stroke inpatients who meet the trial criteria will be randomly assigned to 2 groups: an electroacupuncture (EA) plus needle retention (NR) group and an EA group. Both groups of patients will undergo the same routine cognitive rehabilitation treatments. All treatments will be given 5 times per week for 8 weeks. The primary outcomes will be assessed using the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) and the Montreal Cognitive Assessment scale (MOCA). The secondary outcome will be measured by the Barthel Index (BI). All outcomes will be evaluated at baseline, week 4, week 8, and the third and sixth month after the end of treatment. DISCUSSION Our aim is to evaluate the effects of two different acupuncture treatment methods for treating PSCI patients. This study is expected to provide data to be used in developing an optimized acupuncture treatment method for PSCI treatment. TRIAL REGISTRATION Chinese Clinical Trial Registry ChiCTR1900027849. Abstract
BACKGROUND Cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) is the most common etiology of vascular cognitive impairment (VCI). VCI in CSVD (CSVD-VCI) shows a progressive course with multiple stages and is also associated with dysfunctions such as gait, emotional and behavioral, and urinary disturbances, which seriously affect the life quality of elderly people. In mainland China, Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) is clinically used for CSVD-VCI and presenting positive efficacy, but the evidence revealed in relevant clinical trials has not been systematically evaluated. The purpose of this study is to assess the current evidence available for the clinical efficacy and safety of CHM for CSVD-VCI. METHODS A literature search of published RCTs up to April 30, 2020, has been conducted in the following 7 electronic databases: PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure Database (CNKI), Chinese Science and Technology Journals Database (VIP), Wanfang Database, and Chinese Biomedical Literature Service System (SinoMed). For unpublished studies, 2 clinical trial online registration websites will be searched: ClinicalTrials.gov and Chinese Clinical Trial Registry (ChiCTR). Only randomized controlled trials (RCTs) using CHM in the treatment of patients with CSVD-VCI, which compares CHM with no treatment, placebo, or other conventional treatments, will be included in this systematic review. Primary outcomes will be set as acknowledged scales measuring cognitive function. Secondary outcomes will involve activities of daily living, behavioral, and psychological symptoms, global performance of dementia, neurological function, biological markers of endothelial dysfunction, the clinical effective rate, and adverse events. After screening studies and extracting data, the Cochrane Collaborations tool for assessing risk of bias will be applied to assess the methodological quality of included RCTs. Review Manager Version 5.3 software will be used for data synthesis and statistical analysis. Subgroup analyses, sensitivity analyses, and meta-regression will be conducted to detect potential sources of heterogeneity. The funnel plot and Eggers test will be developed to evaluate publication bias, if available. We will perform the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) system to appraise the quality of evidence. RESULTS Evidence exhibited in this systematic review will provide practical references in the field of CHM treating CSVD-VCI. Moreover, our detailed appraisals of methodological deficiencies of relevant RCTs will offer helpful advice for researchers who are designing trials of CHMs in the treatment of CSVD-VCI. CONCLUSION The conclusion about the clinical efficacy and safety of CHM for CSVD-VCI will be provided for clinical plans, decisions, and policy developments in the full version of this systematic review.
