Abstract
As life expectancy increases, the effectiveness of cervical cancer screening programs needs to be reassessed for the older population. We addressed the effect of test history in and outside organized screening at age 50-64 years on later cervical cancer risk. A case-control study was conducted by deriving 229 cases of 65-79 years old women with invasive cervical cancer in 2010-2019 from the Finnish Cancer Registry. Ten controls were matched for each case by birth year and hospital district. The effect of test uptake and abnormal results in 50-64 year olds on cancer risk was investigated using conditional logistic regression and adjusted for self-selection. Test uptake within the 50-64 years age group showed 75% lower odds of cervical cancer [adjusted OR (aOR) = 0.25; 95% confidence interval (95% CI), 0.18-0.35]. Untested women had 4.9 times higher odds than those tested with normal results (aOR = 4.86; 95% CI, 3.42-6.92). Having at least one abnormal test result increased the odds by 2.5 when compared with only normal results but showed lower odds when compared with untested women. The importance of testing is exhibited by the result showing a reduction of odds of cancer to one-fourth for those tested compared with untested. Similarly, receiving abnormal results was protective of cancer compared with having no tests highlighting the importance of proper follow-up. Therefore, screening history should be considered when further developing cervical cancer screening programs with special interest in non-attenders and those receiving abnormal results at older ages. Significance To our knowledge, this is the first study from Finnish data describing the effect of test history on later cervical cancer at older ages. Focusing on the cervical tests taken within the Finnish national screening program and outside it highlights the overall importance of having cervical tests and adds this study into the slowly increasing number of studies considering all cervical testing in Finland.

Abstract
This retrospective study identified prognostic factors to help guide the clinical treatment of elderly patients (≥ 65 years) with cervical cancer who had undergone radiotherapy. A personalized model to predict 3- and 5-years survival was developed. A review was conducted of 367 elderly women with cervical cancer (staged II-III) who had undergone radiotherapy in our hospital between January 2012 and December 2016. The Cox proportional hazards regression model was used for survival analysis that considered age, hemoglobin, squamous cell carcinoma antigen, pathologic type, stage, pelvic lymph node metastasis status, and others. A nomogram was constructed to predict the survival rates. The median follow-up time was 71 months (4-118 months). The 3- (5-) years overall, progression-free, local recurrence-free, and distant metastasis-free survival rates were, respectively, 91.0% (84.4%), 92.3% (85.9%), 99.18% (99.01%), and 99.18% (97.82%). The following were significant independent prognostic factors for overall survival: tumor size, pre-treatment hemoglobin, chemotherapy, and pelvic lymph node metastasis. The C-index of the line chart was 0.699 (95% CI 0.652-0.746). The areas under the receiver operating characteristic curves for 3- and 5-years survival were 0.751 and 0.724. The nomogram was in good concordance with the actual survival rates. The independent prognostic factors for overall survival in elderly patients with cervical cancer after radiotherapy were: tumor size, pre-treatment hemoglobin, chemotherapy, and pelvic lymph node metastasis. The novel prognostic nomogram based on these factors showed good concordance with the actual survival rates and can be used to guide personalized clinical treatment.

Abstract
Objective To compare the oncological outcomes of radical surgery and radical radiotherapy in elderly (over 65 years) patients with early-stage cervical cancer (IB-IIA). Methods Elderly patients with stage IB-IIA cervical cancer treated at Peking Union Medical College Hospital from January 2000 to December 2020 were retrospectively reviewed. All patients were divided into the radiotherapy group (RT group) and the operation group (OP group) according to their primary intervention. Propensity score matching (PSM) analysis was performed to balance the biases. The primary outcome was overall survival (OS), and the secondary outcomes were progression-free survival (PFS) and adverse effects. Results A total of 116 patients were eligible for the study (47 in the RT group, and 69 in the OP group), and after PSM, 82 patients were suitable for further analysis (37 in the RT group, and 45 in the OP group). In the real-world setting, it was found that compared with radiotherapy, operation was more frequently selected for elderly cervical cancer patients with adenocarcinoma (P < 0.001) and IB1 stage cancer (P < 0.001). The 5-year PFS rates between the RT and OP groups were not significant (82.3% vs. 73.6%, P = 0.659), and the 5-year OS rate of the OP group was significantly better than that in the RT group (100% vs. 76.3%, P = 0.039), especially in patients with squamous cell carcinoma (P = 0.029) and tumor size of 2~4 cm with G2 differentiation (P = 0.046). There was no significant difference in PFS between the two groups (P = 0.659). In the multivariate analysis, compared with operation, radical radiotherapy was an independent risk factor of OS (hazard ratio = 4.970, 95% CI, 1.023~24.140, P = 0.047). No difference was observed in adverse effects between the RT and OP groups (P = 0.154) and in ≥grade 3 adverse effects (P = 0.852). Conclusion The study found that surgery was more frequently selected for elderly cervical cancer patients with adenocarcinoma and IB1 stage cancer in the real-world setting. After PSM to balance the biases, it showed that compared with radiotherapy, surgery could improve the OS of elderly early-stage cervical cancer patients and was an independent protective factor of OS in elderly early-stage cervical cancer patients.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION To investigate the association between chemotherapy (CMT) cycles and oncological outcomes in elders with locally advanced cervical cancer (LACC) who treated with concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT). METHODS We retrospective studied 498 elders with LACC who treated with radiotherapy (RT) or CCRT between 2002 and 2018. Patients were divided into three groups: RT, CCRT with 1-4 and CCRT with 5-6 cycles of CMT. We compared progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) among the three groups and explored survival prognostic factors via multivariate analysis and time-varying analysis effect. RESULTS There were 453 eligible patients; 222, 119 and 112 patients who received RT, CCRT with 1-4 and CCRT with 5-6 cycles of CMT, respectively. Patients in the RT group had older age, poorer performance status, more treatment with conventional RT technique and earlier treatment year comparing with both CCRT groups. Patients who received 5-6 cycles of CMT were less to have underweight, comorbidities and anaemia compared with the RT group. There were patients with lower FIGO stage in 5-6 cycles than in 1-4 cycles of CMT and RT groups. The 5-year PFS and OS between RT, CCRT with 1-4 and CCRT with 5-6 cycles of the CMT group were significantly different. Performance status, comorbidity, histology, FIGO stage and total received 5-6 CMT cycles were significant prognostic factors of PFS and OS. However, the benefits of receiving 5-6 CMT cycles were evidenced only within the first 2.5 years. CONCLUSION Elders with LACC who received 5-6 cycles of CMT concurrently with RT can improve PFS and OS, but the benefit persisted only within the first 2.5 years.

Abstract
Purpose This study aimed to assess the prognostic factors of overall survival (OS) in patients with stage IIB–IVA cervix carcinoma (CC) who underwent external beam radiation therapy (EBRT) and brachytherapy (BRT) and to compare the prognostic accuracy of the 2014 and 2018 International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) staging system using the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. Methods Patients with a histopathological diagnosis of CC between 2004 and 2016 were included. The primary endpoint was OS. The prognostic significance for OS was analyzed by the Cox regression model. Prognostic accuracy in evaluating 3- and 5-year OS in different staging systems was evaluated using time-dependent receiver operating characteristic (tdROC) curves. Results A total of 2585 patients with stage IIB–IVA CC, staged according to the 2014 FIGO staging system, were included in the study. The 3- and 5-year OS rates were 63.9% and 56.6%, respectively, with a median OS of 98 months. Independent variables, such as older age at diagnosis, histological grades apart from well or moderately differentiated, large tumor size, advanced tumor stages classified according to the 2014 and 2018 FIGO staging systems and treatment without chemotherapy or unknown were associated with a worse OS. A tdROC analysis conducted using DeLong’s tests revealed no significant difference in the prediction of 3- and 5-year OS between the 2014 and 2018 FIGO staging systems (P = 0.912 and 0.863, respectively). Conclusion Both 2014 and 2018 FIGO staging systems were strong prognostic factors for OS. No significant risk classification was observed for stage IIIC1 disease in the revised 2018 FIGO staging system for patients who underwent EBRT and BRT.

Understanding cervical cancer after the age of routine screening: Characteristics of cases, treatment, and survival in the United States. Gynecol Oncol 2022; 165:67-74. Abstract
OBJECTIVE Given that cervical cancer incidence rates do not decline in women >65, there is generally limited screening, and these women have a poor prognosis, it is imperative to better understand this population. We aim to describe the characteristics, treatment, and survival of women >65 diagnosed with cervical cancer. METHODS SEER-Medicare 2004-2013 data was used to describe 2274 patients >65 diagnosed with cervical cancer. Five-year cancer-specific survival was estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method. Multivariable Poisson and Cox regression analyses identified characteristics associated with treatment and mortality. RESULTS The median age was 76.1 years, with nearly one-third of cases occurring in women >80 years. Most patients were non-Hispanic White (64.8%), had comorbidity scores ≥ 1 (53.9%) and squamous histology (66.3%). Most women were diagnosed at stage II or higher (62.7%), including nearly one-quarter at Stage IV (23.1%). Nearly 15% of patients were not treated (14.6%). Lack of treatment was associated with oldest age (>80), comorbidity scores ≥3, and stage IV disease. Five-year cancer-specific survival was 50%. Increasing age and stage at diagnosis were significantly associated with lower cancer-specific survival whereas treatment was strongly associated with increased survival. CONCLUSION Most women >65 with cervical cancer are diagnosed with locally advanced or metastatic disease and many do not receive treatment. Survival is improved with early-stage diagnosis and treatment. These findings, coupled with the fact that women >65 constitute an increasing proportion of the population, highlight the need to re-evaluate screening and treatment practices in this population to detect cervical cancer at earlier stages and increase survival. NOVELTY AND IMPACT STATEMENT In SEER-Medicare linked data from 2004 to 2013, most women >65 with cervical cancer were diagnosed with locally advanced or metastatic disease. Both receipt of treatment and survival decreased with increasing age. These findings, coupled with the fact that women aged >65 constitute an increasing proportion of the population, highlight the need to re-evaluate screening and treatment practices in older women to detect cervical cancer at earlier stages and increase survival.

Abstract
PURPOSE To explore clinicopathological characteristics and their prognostic value among young patients with cervical cancer (who are aged ≤25 years old). METHODS The Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results Program (SEER) database was used to extract data on cervical cancer patients. They were then stratified by age as young women (≤25 years old) and old women (26-35 years old) and analyzed for clinicopathology characteristics and treatment modalities. Prognosis was analyzed using Kaplan-Meier survival curve, as well as hazard ratios using Cox regression modeling. The nomogram was developed based on Cox hazards regression model. RESULTS Compared to 26-35 years old women, patients aged ≤25 years tended to be white ethnicity, unmarried, had earlier stage of disease. There was also a better prognosis among younger cohort. Grade, FIGO stage, histologic subtypes, and surgical modalities influenced the survival outcomes of young patients. Among young cohorts, surgery prolonged the survival time of IA-IIA stage patients while surgical and non-surgical management presented no statistically prognostic difference among patients at IIB-IVB stage. Besides, the nomogram which constructed according to Cox hazards regression model which contained independent prognosis factors including FIGO stage, surgery type, and histologic type of tumor can robustly predict survival of young patients. CONCLUSION Cervical cancer patients ≤25 years old were uncommon and lived longer than the older patients. Among these young patients at IA-IIA stage, surgical treatment could be more effective at preventing death than non-surgery. The nomogram could perfectly predict the prognosis of young adults and adolescents with cervical cancer.

Abstract
Background Uterine cervical cancer rates also increase with aging. Especially, the primary treatments of patients with cervical cancer include surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy. Aim Our aim is to discuss the effect of clinical and histopathological risk factors on survival in patients over 65 years old with invasive cervical cancer in the light of the literature. Methods and Results The files of 60 patients aged 65 and over who were diagnosed, examined, and treated for invasive cervical uteri cancer between 2004 and 2021 by the gynecological oncology clinic of Akdeniz University were analyzed retrospectively after obtaining approval from the Akdeniz University ethics committee with the number KAEK‐110. Detailed written consent was obtained from all patients and their relatives for data analysis. Patients aged 65 and over who were diagnosed with invasive cervical uteri cancer at all stages who accepted treatment were included in the study. The patients who were not included in the study were those who did not accept treatment, did not continue their follow‐up regularly, were under 65 years of age, had preinvasive cervical lesion, had a second primary cancer, had an unknown stage, and died due to accidents or similar reasons. When the demographic data of 60 cases were examined, the mean age was 70.5, the youngest age was 65, and the oldest age was 84. When we divided them into two groups by age groups, 76.7% were between 65 and 75 years old and 23.3% were over 75 years old. When the data of 60 patients who were referred to our hospital, which was a tertiary center in the 15 years duration, were examined, the mean disease‐progression free survival (PFS) of patients with locally advanced stage was 45 months, however, it was 4 months for metastatic patients, this difference was significant and a statistically significant difference was found between the two groups (p: .001). When the total survival was examined, the mean was 108.7 months in the locally advanced stage group, while it was 2.9 months in metastatic cases, and this difference was also statistically significant between the two groups (p: .001). When we divide the cases into two groups as between 65 and 75 and over 75 years of age, the mean age of disease‐free survival is 76.9 months in the 65–75 years old group, while 16 months in the 76–85 years old group, however, the p value of this difference in PFS between the two groups was not significant (p: 0.154). However, when the total survival was examined, it was seen that the mean was 140.4 in the 65–75 years old group, while it was 56 months in the 76–85 years old group and this difference was significant between the two groups (p: .046). Conclusion In parallel with the increased population worldwide, advanced age cancer rates are increasing. In parallel with the population growth, it should be remembered that the patients over 65 years of age who were diagnosed with invasive uterine cervical cancer had difficulty in accessing screening tests, late diagnosis and inadequate treatment regimens due to concomitant diseases, resulting in recurrence in a short time and poor clinical symptoms due to short total survival.

Abstract
Purpose Although the mortality of elderly women with cervical cancer is high, their characteristics and prognosis have not attracted sufficient attention. This study aims to clarify the prognostic factors of cervical cancer patients aged ≥65. Patient and Methods The incidences and characteristics of patients diagnosed with cervical cancer (aged ≥65 and <65) during 2004–2015 were obtained through the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results Program (SEER) database. The differences of distributions of characteristics between two age groups were compared by chi-squared (χ2) test. Kaplan–Meier survival method, Log-rank test, Cox-regression and visual nomogram were utilized for survival analysis. Results The annual incidences of two age groups with cervical cancer were (5.5–7.5)/100,000 and (3.4–3.9)/100,000, respectively, during 2004–2015. The 1-year and 5-year cancer-specific survival rates of old patients were both lower than those of young patients (P <0.001). The proportions of unmarried state and advanced International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) stage in old patients were higher than those in relatively young patients, and fewer elderly patients received surgery. Univariate and multivariate survival analysis showed non-squamous cell carcinoma, poor differentiation and late FIGO stage were independent poor prognostic factors for patients aged ≥65. Treatments improved the outcomes of elderly patients, and the effect of surgery was better than non-surgical treatment on elderly patients with FIGO I. Besides, geriatric score and survival probability could be accomplished by our nomogram with a c-index of 0.7945. Conclusion Delayed diagnosis and insufficient treatment were two distinct features of elderly patients and correlated with their poor clinical outcomes. More attention and active treatments should be adopted in elderly women based on their general condition.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To compare the survivals and toxicities of young and elderly patients with cervical cancer treated with definitive radiotherapy or concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT). MATERIALS AND METHODS Patients with cervical cancer treated with radiotherapy or CCRT between January 2010 and December 2015 in our institute were reviewed. A dose of 50.4 Gy in 28 fractions was delivered to the pelvis with intensity modulated radiation therapy. In addition, a dose of 30-36 Gy in 5-7 fractions was prescribed to point A with brachytherapy. Weekly cisplatin was the first-line regimen of concurrent chemotherapy. Comparisons were made between patients in the young group (<60 years) and those in the elderly group (≥70 years) with multivariate analysis and propensity score matching. RESULTS There were 991 patients in the young group and 70 patients in the elderly group. The median follow-up period was 30.2 months. In multivariate analysis, age was an independent factor of overall survival (OS, hazard ratio, HR 1.99, p = 0.014), but it was not significant in predicting disease-free survival (DFS, HR 1.41, p = 0.179) and cancer-specific survival (CSS, HR 1.38, p = 0.332). After propensity score matching, 64 pairs of patients were selected. The 3-year OS, DFS, and CSS rates in the young and elderly groups were 86.5% and 73.9% (p = 0.280), 74.6% and 75.4% (p = 0.744), and 87.9% and 81.7% (p = 0.967), respectively. Significant differences between the young and elderly groups were observed in grade 3 and above chronic toxicities (2.9% and 8.6%, p = 0.027) and grade 3 and above chronic gastrointestinal toxicities (2.4% and 8.6%, p = 0.009). CONCLUSION After definitive radiotherapy or CCRT, the DFS and CSS of elderly patients with cervical cancer were similar to those in young patients. Elderly patients experienced more chronic toxicities than did young patients.

Abstract
Emerging evidence has revealed that long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) play crucial roles in the development and progression of tumors. The present study aimed to examine the roles and illustrate the underlying mechanisms of lncRNA ferritin heavy chain 1 pseudogene 3 (FTH1P3) in cervical cancer. The expression of lncRNA FTH1P3 and microRNA-145 (miRNA-145 or miR-145) in human cervical cancer samples and cervical cancer cell lines was detected by qRT-PCR (reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction). FTH1P3 overexpression, siRNA plasmid, hsa-miR-145 mimic or hsa-miR-145 inhibitor were transfected. The target of FTH1P3 was predicted by bioinformatics analysis and validated by luciferase assay. Statistical significance analysis was performed by SPSS software. The results revealed that FTH1P3 was significantly upregulated in cervical cancer tissues compared with normal tissues. Increased expression of FTH1P3 was revealed in human cervical cancer cell lines compared with cervical normal epithelial cells. Downregulation of FTH1P3 inhibited cell proliferation, invasion and migration, and promoted apoptosis in cervical cancer cells. miR-145 was predicted and validated as a direct target of FTH1P3. Moreover, FTH1P3 siRNA partially attenuated the effects of the miR-145 inhibitor on cell viability and mobility in cervical cancer cells. The present results demonstrated that lncRNA FTH1P3 functioned as a promoting factor in cervical cancer by targeting miR-145.

Abstract
Background: Cisplatin with definitive radiotherapy (RT) is considered the standard of care for cervical cancer; however, older women are frequently undertreated and have worse outcomes compared with younger patients. Because women aged ≥65 years have been disproportionately underrepresented in clinical trials, uncertainties exist regarding how much they benefit from the addition of cisplatin to RT. Patients and Methods: Women aged ≥65 years with nonmetastatic cervical cancer treated with definitive external-beam RT and brachytherapy were identified in the SEER-Medicare database. Death attributable to cervical cancer (cancer-specific mortality [CSM]) was evaluated against competing risks of death using Gray’s test. Propensity score analysis and the Fine-Gray multivariable regression model were used to adjust for baseline differences, including comorbidity. Results: The total cohort comprised 826 patients, of whom 531 (64%) received cisplatin, 233 (28%) were FIGO stage I, 374 (45%) were stage II, and 219 (27%) were stage III–IVA. Older age and chronic kidney disease significantly predicted omission of cisplatin. Virtually all cisplatin dosing was weekly, with a median of 5 cycles. Death from cervical cancer was significantly lower with cisplatin than without (5-year CSM, 31% vs 39%; P=.02; adjusted hazard ratio, 0.72; P=.02), which persisted in propensity score analysis. Receiving ≥5 cycles was required for benefit, as no difference in CSM was seen in patients receiving 1 to 4 cycles versus no cisplatin. Subgroup analyses revealed that the benefit of cisplatin persisted in women aged ≥75 years and those with early-stage disease. Incidence of cytopenia, nausea/vomiting, and hypovolemia increased in patients treated with cisplatin. Conclusions: Administration of cisplatin with definitive RT in women aged ≥65 years was associated with a significant benefit in the incidence of death attributable to cervical cancer, despite competing risks for mortality in an older population. Receiving at least 5 cycles of weekly cisplatin was required for benefit.

Abstract
Background: Whether concurrent chemotherapy could bring about better oncological outcomes in elderly patients receiving definitive radiotherapy is still unknown. So, the purpose of this study was to find out whether it is essential for elderly patients to undergo concurrent chemotherapy. Methods: We performed a retrospective study of 246 elderly cervical cancer patients who were treated with definitive radiotherapy or chemo-radiation between August 2004 and August 2015. All patients were divided into two groups according to whether they were receiving concurrent chemotherapy or not. Overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) were compared between the two groups. Recurrence patterns were also analyzed. Multivariate analysis was performed to explore clinical factors significantly associated with DFS, local recurrence-free survival, and distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS). Results: The 5-year OS in the radiotherapy and chemo-radiation groups were 72.89% and 82.25%, respectively. A significant difference was found between the two groups (P=0.016). The 5-year DFS in the radiotherapy and chemo-radiaton groups were 58.19% and 75.52%, respectively, also with a significant difference between the two groups (P=0.028). Further subgroup analysis showed that in patients with negative lymph nodes, there were no differences in both OS and DFS between patients who did and did not receive concurrent chemotherapy. However, in patients with positive lymph nodes, patients who received concurrent chemotherapy acquired better OS and DFS than those who did not. Multivariable analysis showed that concurrent chemotherapy was an independent predictor of DFS and DMFS. Conclusion: Concurrent chemotherapy could improve oncological outcomes in elderly cervical cancer patients with positive lymph nodes, but not in those with negative lymph nodes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) is the standard treatment for local advanced cervical cancer. However, for elderly patients, studies are limited and the outcomes are controversial. We retrospectively analyzed the efficacy and tolerance of radical radiotherapy (RT) or CCRT in elderly cervical cancer patients and performed comparisons between them. METHODS We retrospectively analyzed the elderly cervical cancer patients (≥70 years old) treated with radical RT or CCRT between January 2006 and December 2014. For external beam radiotherapy, 50Gy in 25 fractions or 50.4Gy in 28 fractions were delivered via 3-dimensional conformal radiation therapy or intensity modulated radiation therapy. High-dose-rate intracavitary brachytherapy was performed with a dose of 30-36Gy in 5-7 fractions to point A. Concurrent chemotherapy regimens included weekly cisplatin and paclitaxel. RESULTS Seventy-three patients were eligible for this study. Twenty-one(28.8%) and 52(71.2%) patients suffered with FIGO stage IB-IIA and IIB-IVA disease, respectively. Twenty-four (32.9%) patients received CCRT. The median duration of follow-up was 32.4 months (4.8-118.8 months). The 3-year overall survival (OS), cancer-specific survival (CSS) and disease-free survival (DFS) were 64.9%, 67.8% and 66.5%, respectively. By multivariate analysis, CCRT was a significant predictive factor of OS(p = 0.023, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.172-8.860), CSS(p = 0.031, 95% CI: 1.131-13.908)and DFS(p = 0.045, 95% CI: 1.023 ~ 6.430). The 3-year OS of patients received RT and CCRT were 54.3% and 83.1%, CSS were 56.8% and 87.1%, DFS were 57.6% and 83.3%. There was no treatment related death. Grade 3-4 acute hematological, gastrointestinal and urinary toxicity incidences were 31.5%, 19.1% and 12.3%, respectively. For grade 3-4 chronic gastrointestinal and genitourinary toxicities, the incidences were 4.1% and 2.7%, respectively. Compared with RT, CCRT was related with high grade 3-4 hematological toxicity (16.3% and 62.5% respectively, p < 0.001), respectively. However, acute nonhematological toxicity and chronic toxicity were not significantly different. CONCLUSION Elderly cervical cancer patients could tolerate radical RT and CCRT very well and get a favored survival. Compared with RT, CCRT could improve the survival of elder cervical cancer patients with similar nonhematological toxicity. CCRT should be considered in elderly cervical cancer patients.

Quality of life among survivors of early-stage cervical cancer in Taiwan: an exploration of treatment modality differences. Qual Life Res 2017; 26:2773-2782. Abstract
PURPOSE Women with early-stage cervical cancer may experience changes in their quality of life (QoL) due to treatment or to the effects of the cancer. In this study, we examined differences in QoL by treatment modality between women who underwent surgery only and those treated with concurrent chemoradiation (CCRT). METHODS The sample of 290 women had been diagnosed with stage I-II cervical cancer. Data were collected on these women's demographic and disease characteristics, general QoL, and cancer-specific QoL using an author-designed demographic-disease survey, the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer QoL questionnaire, and the Taiwanese-version Cervical Cancer Module 24 questionnaire, respectively. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and analysis of covariance. RESULTS Women with cervical cancer who underwent surgery only had significantly worse constipation and body image than those treated with CCRT. Women who underwent CCRT had worse physical and role functioning than those who underwent surgery only. Women who had CCRT also reported worse symptoms, such as fatigue, appetite loss, diarrhea, financial difficulties, sexual enjoyment, and sexual/vaginal functioning, than those who had only surgery. CONCLUSIONS Our results add knowledge about QoL in women with early-stage cervical cancer who receive different treatment modalities. When suggesting treatment modalities for women with cervical cancer, health professionals should also consider changes in women's QoL after cancer treatment. To improve women's QoL after treatment, professionals should also offer timely and individualized interventions based on women's cervical cancer treatment.
