Abstract
This research was conducted for the synthesis and application of ophthalmic lens materials with improved oxygen permeability and durability. Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone (NVP), 3-(trifluoromethyl)styrene (3-TFMSt), and magnesium oxide nanoparticles were used as additives for the basic combination of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA). Additionally, the materials were copolymerized with ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) as the cross-linking agent and azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) as the initiator. The addition of magnesium oxide nanoparticles was found to increase the tensile strength from 0.0631 to 0.0842 kgf/mm2. Copolymerization with a small amount of 3-TFMSt of about 1% increased the tensile strength to 0.1506 kgf/mm2 and the oxygen permeability from 6.00 to 9.64 (cm2/s)∙(mLO2/mL·mmHg)∙10-11. The contact lens material produced using N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone and magnesium oxide nanoparticles as additives satisfied the basic physical properties required for hydrogel contact lenses and is expected to be used usefully as a material for fabricating high-performance hydrogel lenses.

Abstract
Context: Coronaviruses are the largest RNA viruses associated with some ocular manifestations. There are various contradictory reports about the ocular manifestations of coronaviruses in humans. Different ocular tissues can affect coronavirus-associated infectious diseases. Evidence Acquisition: All manuscripts were collected from PubMed, Google Scholar, and other relevant databases. All searches were done by specific keywords, including "coronavirus," "ocular disease," and "eye." Results: There are various contradictory reports about the ocular effects of coronaviruses in humans. Different ocular tissues are involved in coronavirus-associated infectious diseases. The ductal connection between the upper respiratory tract and eye mucosa through the nasolacrimal duct can be an entrance to respiratory viruses, such as coronaviruses. The coronavirus can infect the retina, conjunctiva, cornea, and uvea of the eye. The primary SARS-CoV-2 receptor, ACE2, is mainly expressed in the posterior tissues of the eye, such as the retina and RPE. Feline CoV, SARS-CoV, MERS-CoV, and infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) are responsible for conjunctiva involvement in coronavirus-related ocular pathogenesis. Also, various studies are held on COVID-19 and the impact of the conjunctiva on diagnosis and medical complications. Given that the cornea has an acceptable expression of ACE2 and TMPRSS2 genes compared to lung tissue, some studies were done on the impact of the cornea in COVID-19. Feline infectious peritonitis virus (FIPV) is also related to uvea complications. The experiments of human and animal models on the effects of coronaviruses on the retina and cornea in the event of various epidemics of coronaviruses and new and unknown ocular complications can be of great help to future studies. Conclusions: Given the importance of investigating the pathogenesis and other routes of SARS-CoV-2 infection, especially in areas other than the respiratory tract, this report attempts to highlight the importance of eye infections caused by the virus, its role in maintaining the virus transmission chain, and its impact on public health.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) posed a major threat to the clinical practice of orthopedic surgeons, especially in the emergency department. We aim to present: (1) the criteria established by the Surgery Management Committee of Taipei Veterans General Hospital in response to COVID-19 and (2) the impact of COVID-19 screening on orthopedic trauma patients in the emergency department. METHODS From April 1 to April 30, 2020, all orthopedic trauma patients in the emergency department were screened for COVID-19 if they fulfilled any of the following: (1) travel from abroad within 14 days, (2) high-risk occupation, (3) contact or cluster history with a COVID-19-positive patient, and (4) any associated symptom, including fever up to 38°C, cough, sore throat, rhinorrhea, loss of taste or smell, muscle soreness, malaise, or shortness of breath. We recorded details on the injury, fever, management, and associated outcomes. RESULTS Of the 163 orthopedic trauma patients presenting to the emergency department, 24 were screened for COVID-19; of these, 22 received surgery. Sixty-two patients received surgery without screening for COVID-19. Fever was the most common reason to screen for COVID-19 (N = 20; 83.3%). No patients were COVID-19 positive. Screened patients had a significantly longer mean interval from presentation to the emergency department to surgery (2.7 ± 2.5 vs. 1.5 ± 0.8 days, p = 0.037). Of the 20 patients screened because of fever, the focus was not identified in 12 (60.0%) patients. The other eight had urinary tract infection (N = 6; 27.2%), septic hip (N = 1; 4.6%), and concomitant pneumonia and urinary tract infection (N = 1; 4.6%). The mean duration of fever and hospital stay was 4.3 ± 4.6 and 8.7 ± 4.9 days, respectively. There were no thromboembolic events, surgical complications, or in-hospital mortality. CONCLUSION We developed safe and reliable screening criteria for this COVID-19 pandemic. The delay in surgery was reasonable and did not adversely affect in-patient outcomes.

Abstract
PURPOSE There have been anecdotal reports of ocular manifestations in the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). As the pandemic is spreading and the whole picture is yet unknown, ophthalmologists should be aware of unusual ocular presentations of COVID-19 since they could precede the development of severe respiratory distress. METHODS We report here the first case of a patient with bilateral unusual dot-blot retinal hemorrhages and retinal venous dilation who presented shortly thereafter a PCR-proven COVID-19. CASE REPORT A 59-year-old woman presented with a 7 days history of blurred vision in both eyes. Fundus examination revealed bilateral venous stasis and dot and blot intra-retinal hemorrhages preceding the diagnosis of COVID-19 in a patient with mild respiratory symptoms that progressed within a few days to a severe respiratory distress. After 1 month of the COVID-19 treatment, fundus examination improved and fluorescein angiography demonstrated no diabetic retinopathy signs, no retinal vasculitis and no significant delay in arterial or venous filling. CONCLUSION Intraretinal hemorrhages similar to those found in the retinopathy associated to blood dyscrasias could be an association with SARS-CoV-2 in the context of a coagulopathy induced by the infection.

Abstract
Purpose This study was performed to determine the occurrence of ocular surface manifestations in patients diagnosed with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) due to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Methods A systematic search of electronic databases i.e. PubMed, Web of Science, CINAHL, OVID and Google scholar was performed using a comprehensive search strategy. The searches were current through 31st May 2020. Pooled data from cross-sectional studies was used for meta-analysis and a narrative synthesis was conducted for studies where a meta-analysis was not feasible. Results A total of 16 studies reporting 2347 confirmed COVID-19 cases were included. Pooled data showed that 11.64% of COVID-19 patients had ocular surface manifestations. Ocular pain (31.2%), discharge (19.2%), redness (10.8%), and follicular conjunctivitis (7.7%) were the main features. 6.9% patients with ocular manifestations had severe pneumonia. Viral RNA was detected from the ocular specimens in 3.5% patients. Conclusion The most common reported ocular presentations of COVID-19 included ocular pain, redness, discharge, and follicular conjunctivitis. A small proportion of patients had viral RNA in their conjunctival/tear samples. The available studies show significant publication bias and heterogeneity. Prospective studies with methodical collection and data reporting are needed for evaluation of ocular involvement in COVID-19.
