Abstract
OBJECTIVE Cyanoacrylate glue closure was first used in humans 10 years ago to treat venous reflux of the axial veins. Studies have since shown its clinical efficacy in vein closure. However, great need exists to elucidate further the types of specific adverse reactions that cyanoacrylate glue can cause for better patient selection and to minimize these events. In the present study, we systematically reviewed the literature to identify the types of reported reactions. In addition, we explored the pathophysiology contributing to these reactions and proposed the mechanistic pathway with inclusion of actual cases. METHODS We searched the literature for reports of reactions following cyanoacrylate glue use in patients with venous diseases between 2012 and 2022. The search was performed using MeSH (medical subject headings) terms. The terms included cyanoacrylate, venous insufficiency, chronic venous disorder, varicose veins, vein varicosities, venous ulcer, venous wound, CEAP (clinical, etiologic, anatomic, pathophysiologic), vein, adverse events, phlebitis, hypersensitivity, foreign body granuloma, giant cell, endovenous glue-induced thrombosis, and allergy. The search was limited to the literature reported in English. These studies were evaluated for the type of product used and the reactions noted. A systematic review, in accordance with the PRISMA (preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses) method, was performed. Covidence software (Melbourne, VC, Australia) was used for full-text screening and data extraction. Two reviewers reviewed the data, and the content expert served as the tiebreaker. RESULTS We identified 102, of which, 37 reported on cyanoacrylate use other than in the context of chronic venous diseases and were excluded. Fifty-five reports were determined appropriate for data extraction. The adverse reactions to cyanoacrylate glue were phlebitis, hypersensitivity, foreign body granuloma, and endovenous glue-induced thrombosis. CONCLUSIONS Although cyanoacrylate glue closure for venous reflux is generally a safe and clinically effective treatment choice for patients with symptomatic chronic venous disease and axial reflux, some adverse events could be specific to the properties of the cyanoacrylate product. We propose mechanisms for how such reactions can occur based on histologic changes, published reports, and case examples; however, further exploration is necessary to confirm these theories.

Abstract
Shape memory sponges are very promising in stopping the bleeding from noncompressible and narrow entrance wounds. However, few shape memory sponges have fast degradable properties in order to not hinder tissue healing. In this work, based on cryopolymerization, a succinic ester-based sponge (Ssponge) is fabricated using gelatin and bi-polyethylene glycol-succinimidyl succinate (Bi-PEG-SS). Compared with the commercially available gelatin sponge (Csponge), Ssponge possesses better water/blood absorption ability and higher mechanical pressure over the surrounding tissues. Moreover, in the models of massive liver hemorrhage after transection and noncompressive liver wounds by penetration, Ssponge exhibits a better hemostasis performance than Csponge. Furthermore, in a liver regeneration model, Ssponge-treated livers shows higher regeneration speed compared with Csponge, including a lower injury score, more cavity-like tissues, less fibrosis and enhanced tissue regeneration. Overall, it is shown that Ssponge, with a fast degradation behavior, is not only highly efficient in stopping bleeding but also not detrimental for tissue healing, possessing promising clinical translational potential.

Abstract
PURPOSE To explore the diagnostic approach and therapeutic method of migratory pharyngeal foreign bodies and related complications, to improve the understanding of such disease and to reduce misdiagnosis and missed diagnosis. MATERIAL AND METHODS A retrospective study was performed by collecting patients who were treated because of the related complications caused by migratory pharyngeal foreign bodies from 2012 to 2020. RESULTS A total of 20 patients were admitted to hospital due to the related complications. 14 cases showed cervical mass; 3 cases showed abscess of the mouth floor; 1 cases showed retropharyngeal abscess; 1 cases showed laryngeal granuloma; 1 cases showed mass of tongue. All patients received imaging examination of B-ultrasonography or computed tomography (CT). 19 patients were treated by surgery, and 1 patient was taken conservative treatment. All foreign bodies was successfully removed. As for the type of foreign bodies, there have 15 cases of fishbone, 2 cases of crabshell, 2 cases of shrimp shell, 1 cases of duck bone. CONCLUSIONS Migrating foreign bodies and related complications are rare in clinic, much attention should be paid to avoid missed diagnosis or misdiagnosis.

Abstract
Modulation of the key immune cell subsets by biomaterial has emerged as a potential target to promote tissue repair and regeneration. Based on calcium alginate (Alg) and glycol chitosan (GC), an injectable double-network (DN) hydrogel has been developed as a scaffold for cell delivery and cell cocultured system. Previous studies have documented the interaction between dendritic cells (DCs) and GC or Alg hydrogel, but the potential effect of DN hydrogel on activation of DCs still remains unclear. This research was conducted to explore the immunomodulatory influence and underlying mechanisms of GC/Alg DN hydrogel on DCs in vitro and in vivo. Stimulation of DCs with DN hydrogel obviously induced the maturation of DCs in vitro. In vivo, DN hydrogel did not have obvious influence on the maturation of splenic DCs on postimplantation days 3, 10, and 30. Mechanistically, we found that DN hydrogel induced the maturation of DCs via phosphorylation of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase/protein kinase B/mammalian target of rapamycin in vitro. It provides a novel understanding of the immunomodulatory property of DN hydrogel on DCs, which may serve as potential target for designing immune-mediated regenerative strategies.

Abstract
Poly-DL-lactide polymer implants absorb over a period of 6 to 12 months and have been used with increasing frequency for repair of orbital fractures. The authors describe the case of a 7-year-old boy who presented with orbital inflammation 10 months following repair of a white-eyed blowout fracture with a poly-DL-lactide implant. Rapid improvement in symptoms followed initiation of oral steroids, with excellent long-term result. Clinical presentation and treatment response implicated a foreign body inflammatory reaction as the underlying etiology of symptoms. Ophthalmologists and orbital surgeons should be aware that absorbable implants can demonstrate this late idiosyncratic complication.
