Abstract
Introduction Growth Hormone Deficiency (GHD) is a rare disease marked by a complete or partial reduction in the production of growth hormone. Vitamin D deficiency is frequent and may be associated with several pathologies. However, the association between GHD and vitamin D deficiency has not been extensively studied. This study aimed to analyse VDR gene polymorphisms related to vitamin D status to ensure better care for patients with GHD. Material and methods A case-control study was conducted at the Children's Hospital of Tunis in collaboration with the Farhat Hached's Hospital of Sousse, including patients with GHD and healthy subjects. Genetic analysis of the VDR gene polymorphisms was performed using PCR-RFLP technique. Haplotypes were examined with Haploview software, while statistical analyses were carried out using SPSS and R programming language. Results Our study revealed significant differences in vitamin D (p = 0, 049) and calcium concentrations between patients and healthy subjects, which were lower in the GHD group (p = 0,018). A comparison of allelic and genotypic frequencies of the five polymorphisms indicated an association between the FokI polymorphism and GHD. Furthermore, significant difference was observed between the ApaI genotypes and PTH (p = 0,019) and ALP (p = 0,035). FokI genotypes were associated with phosphorus (p = 0,021). Additionally, One haplotype, CTAGT, exhibited a significant difference between the patients and healthy subjects (p = 0,002). Conclusion Our study findings indicate that hypovitaminosis D is common among patients with GHD, even when undergoing treatment with rhGH. This underscores the critical importance of vitamin D supplementation during treatment.

Abstract
Vitamins play a vital role in human health, particularly in the development and maintenance of oral health in children. These nutrients are broadly categorized into fat-soluble and water-soluble types, crucial for children's well-being. The objective of this study is to investigate the impact of vitamin deficiencies on the oral health of children, focusing on how these deficiencies contribute to various oral health issues and determining the relationship between specific vitamin shortages and oral diseases. Findings indicate that shortages in vitamins A and D lead to enamel issues and a higher susceptibility to dental diseases, vitamin E assists in treating oral mucositis, and vitamin K is essential for blood clotting in dental surgeries. Deficits in B-complex and vitamin C result in enamel hypomineralization and soft tissue ailments, including aphthous stomatitis and gingival petechiae. Additionally, a lack of vitamin B7 compromises the immune response, increasing oral candidiasis risk. Therefore, vitamin deficiencies markedly affect children's oral health, highlighting the need for joint efforts between dental professionals and caregivers for effective pediatric care. Addressing vitamin deficiencies through supplementation and tailored dental care emphasizes the significance of nutritional health in children's overall and dental well-being, advocating for a collaborative approach to achieve optimal health outcomes.

Abstract
Growth hormone (GH) is involved in the regulation of the postnatal dental and skeletal growth, but its effects on oral health have not been clearly defined. This paper aims to provide a review of current clinical knowledge of dental caries, tooth wear, developmental enamel defects, craniofacial growth and morphology, dental maturation, and tooth eruption in growth hormone deficient (GHD) children. A systematic review was carried out using Scopus, MEDLINE-EbscoHost and Web of Science from 2000 to May 2021. PRISMA guidelines for reporting systematic reviews were followed. All the selected studies involved groups under eighteen years of age, covering a total of 465 GHD patients. The studies that were selected provide reliable evidence for delayed dental maturity and orthodontic disturbances in GHD patients. Data on dental hard tissues pathology are scarce and are limited to occurrences of dental caries. GHD children showed abnormal craniofacial morphology with reduced mandibular dimensions, with a resulting tendency towards Angle's Class II occlusion, which affected up to 31% of patients. Dental age has been shown to be delayed in GHD patients by about 1 to 2 years. Moreover, the risk of dental caries in children with GHD decreases with increasing levels of vitamin D. Hence, further studies would be valuable for evaluating the risk of various oral health problems and to organize targeted dental care for this vulnerable group.

Abstract
Purpose: This study aims to evaluate the antimicrobial effects of the cholecalciferol vitamin
D3 against Streptococcus sobrinus (Strep. sobrinus) and Streptococcus mutans (Strep.
mutans) bacteria in vitro that is considered the main causative bacteria in dental
caries development. Materials and methods: The antimicrobial effects of vitamin D3 were evaluated against Strep. sobrinus
and Strep mutans using the agar disc diffusion method. The minimum inhibitory
concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) of vitamin
D3 were determined using a microdilution method following the guidelines by
the Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI). Scanning electron microscope
(SEM) was used to evaluate the morphological changes of bacterial cells following
exposure to vitamin D3. Results: Strep. sobrinus was more sensitive to vitamin D3 compared to Strep. mutans bacteria.
The MIC values of vitamin D3 against Strep. sobrinus and Strep. mutans were 60 μg/
mL and 250 μg/mL respectively whereas the MBC values were 120 μg/mL and 500
μg/mL, respectively. Moreover, significant changes in the bacterial morphology
were observed in treated bacterial cells with vitamin D3 as compared to the
untreated control bacteria using SEM. Conclusion: These findings suggested that vitamin D3 has excellent antimicrobial effects against
Strep. sobrinus and Strep. mutans and may be considered as a promising compound
in the prevention of dental caries in the future. Further research is recommended to
elucidate the mechanism of vitamin D3 on these bacteria.

Abstract
Vitamin D (VD) levels have been gaining growing attention in Oral Health. During growth and adulthood, VD deficiency (VDD) is associated with a wide variety of oral health disorders, and impaired VD synthesis may expedite some of these conditions. In children, severe VDD can induce defective tooth mineralization, resulting in dentin and enamel defects. As a consequence, these defects may increase the risk of the onset and progression of dental caries. Further, VDD has been associated with higher prevalence of periodontitis and gingival inflammation, and several recent preclinical and clinical studies have unveiled potential pathways through which Vitamin D may interact with the periodontium. VDD correction through supplementation may contribute to a successful treatment of periodontitis; however, alveolar bone regeneration procedures performed in baseline VDD patients seem more prone to failure. Vitamin D may also be linked with some oral pathology entities such as certain oral cancers and events of osteonecrosis of the jaw. This review aims to provide comprehensive evidence of how VD levels should be considered to promote good oral health, and to summarize how VDD may hamper oral development and its role in certain oral conditions.

Abstract
The association between vitamins and oral health have recently been discussed, yielding increased attention from medical and dental perspectives. The present review aimed to systematically evaluate and appraise the most recently scientific papers investigating the role of vitamins in the prevention and treatment of the main oral diseases as hard dental pathological processes and gum/periodontal disease. Randomized controlled trials, cross-sectional studies, cohort studies, comparative studies, validation studies and evaluation studies, following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, reporting associations between vitamins and oral diseases or the use of vitamins to prevent or treat oral diseases in patients of any age were included. PubMed, Embase and Scopus were searched to November 2019 using an ad hoc prepared search string. All the papers meeting the inclusion criteria were subjected to a quality assessment. The search identified 1597 papers; 741 were selected after removing duplicates. A total of 334 articles were excluded after title and abstract evaluation; 407 were assessed and 73 papers were full-text assessed; other 14 papers were discharged after full text evaluation, leaving finally 58 papers included. In general, there is weak evidence supporting the association between vitamins and both gingival/periodontal disease and hard dental pathological processes.

Abstract
There is a lack of population-based surveys on oral health in Jilin province. Accordingly, this study aimed to understand the oral health status of 12-year-old children in Jilin province, China, to demonstrate the prevalence of oral health-related diseases, as well as to identify the associated risk factors.From February to April 2017, a cross-sectional investigation was conducted among 2324 children aged 12 years from 63 public schools of 9 regions in Jilin province, China. A questionnaire of World Health Organization (WHO) was conducted to ascertain the potential risk factors associated with oral diseases. The 3 examiners, who received theoretical and clinical training before the investigation, underwent clinical examinations to assess dental caries, dental fluorosis, presence of calculus, and gingival bleeding. Furthermore, the mean decayed-missing-filled tooth (DMFT), the rate of pit and fissure closure, education level of patients, brushing habits, and sugar consumption were also evaluated. All data analyses were conducted using SPSS version 19.0.A total of 2324 twelve-year-old children from 9 regions in Jilin-China were examined from February to April 2017. The prevalence of dental caries, dental fluorosis, calculus, and gingival bleeding reached 40.8%%, 21.8%, 47.93%, and 48.88%, respectively; the mean DMFT was 0.8787. The proportion of DMFT was 83.7% for decayed teeth, 0.2% for missing teeth, and 16.1% for filling teeth. The prevalence of pit and fissure closure was 10%.Educational level of parents was negatively correlated with the prevalence of oral diseases, whereas sugar consumption was positively associated with dental caries prevalent in children. We also found that there was no association between brushing habits and dental caries in children aged 12 years in Jilin Province.

Abstract
Background Human growth is a complex mechanism that depends on genetic, environmental, nutritional and hormonal factors. The main hormone involved in growth at each stage of development is growth hormone (GH) and its mediator, insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1). In contrast, vitamin D is involved in the processes of bone growth and mineralization through the regulation of calcium and phosphorus metabolism. Nevertheless, no scientific study has yet elucidated how they interact with one another, especially as a dysfunction in which one influences the other, even if numerous biochemical and clinical studies confirm the presence of a close relationship. Main body We reviewed and analyzed the clinical studies that have considered the relationship between vitamin D and the GH/IGF-1 axis in pediatric populations. We found two main areas of interest: the vitamin D deficiency status in patients affected by GH deficit (GHD) and the relationship between serum vitamin D metabolites and IGF-1. Although limited by some bias, from the analysis of the studies presented in the scientific literature, it is possible to hypothesize a greater frequency of hypovitaminosis D in the subjects affected by GHD, a reduced possibility of its correction with only substitution treatment with recombinant growth hormone (rGH) and an improvement of IGF-1 levels after supplementation treatment with vitamin D. Conclusions These results could be followed by preventive interventions aimed at reducing the vitamin D deficit in pediatric age. In addition, further research is needed to fully understand how vitamin D and growth are intertwined.

Vitamin D deficiency is a common risk factor for multifactorial diseases, and it seems to be associated with growth hormone deficiency (GHD). Vitamin D could prevent dental caries. The goal of this study was to identify whether there is an association between hormonal therapy with growth hormone (GH), vitamin D3 supplementation, vitamin D3 levels, and the occurrence of caries among children affected by GHD. The study group consisted of patients from the Department of Endocrinology and Diabetology of the University Paediatric Hospital at the Medical University of Lublin treated with recombinant human GH for pituitary GHD. It was conducted between October 2014 and June 2015. The study group included 121 children and adolescents aged 6 to 18 years, with 56 children from rural areas and 65 from urban areas. The study group was stratified by the area of residence. We found the statistically significant impact of vitamin D3 concentration on the average value of the DMFT (decayed, missed, and filled teeth) index and its component-DT (decayed teeth), which was noted in subjects from rural areas. Among patients from urban areas, we found a statistically significant correlation between duration of therapy and the DMFT index. An increase in duration of GH therapy by 10 months leads to a mean increase in DMFT index by 0.70. Based on multiple regression analysis, we developed the following model: value of DT = 3.10 - 0.73∗category of vitamin D3 concentration - 0.07∗duration of supplementation (in months). In this model, variables with a significant impact on the value of DT in the group of patients from rural areas include time of vitamin D3 supplementation and category of vitamin D3 concentration. Greater emphasis should be placed on promoting vitamin D3 as a potentially effective agent reducing the number of dental caries, especially among patients with GHD.
