Abstract
BACKGROUND/ OBJECTIVES Nutrition support is frequently required post allogeneic haematopoietic progenitor cell transplantation (HPCT) however the tolerance of enteral nutrition (EN) can vary. This mixed methods study aimed to explore staff perceptions, barriers and enablers to the use of EN post HPCT and report the implementation and outcomes of a nutrition protocol. SUBJECT/ METHODS A survey on barriers and enablers to the use of EN was developed and distributed to medical and nursing staff. Data on nutrition and clinical outcomes was collected for 12 months post implementation of a new nutrition protocol. RESULTS Thirty staff completed the survey, key barriers identified included uncertain EN tolerance, lack of confidence in nasogastric tube placement and insufficient training and resources. Eighty-four patients commenced EN, 23 changed to PN (27%) and 61 received EN only (73%). In total 36 patients received PN and eight patients oral nutrition support only. There was a difference in type of conditioning (p = 0.025) and nutritional status (p = 0.016) between patients who received PN vs EN only, with a higher proportion of malnourished patients receiving PN (23% vs 5%). Patients who received PN had a longer length of hospital stay (median 22 vs 19 days, p = 0.012) and lower rate of survival to day 100 (81% vs 95%, p = 0.036) than patients who received EN. CONCLUSION The use of EN may lead to improved clinical outcomes compared to PN therefore should be implemented as first line nutrition support.

Abstract
PURPOSE Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) recipients experience several post-HSCT complications affecting nutritional status, body mass index (BMI), and mortality that can potentially be mitigated by nutritional management. This rapid review examines the relationship between pre-HSCT nutritional status and BMI and post-HSCT survival. METHODS Articles were identified from PubMed, Scopus, and Embase. Two researchers independently completed the title, abstract, and full-text review. Inclusion criteria included the following: (1) randomized clinical trials or observational studies; (2) human subjects diagnosed with cancer and undergoing HSCT; (3) reported pre-HSCT nutritional status (e.g., diet recall, nutritional survey, dietitian session) or BMI; and (4) reported treatment related mortality and/or survival. RESULTS The initial search found 3036 articles, 28 were included in full-text review, and 18 met inclusion criteria. Articles had quasi-experimental (n = 2) and observational (n = 16) study designs. Of the studies, n = 5 reported nutritional intake decreased post-HSCT, and n = 2 reported nutrition intervention (i.e., controlled feeding) post-HSCT improved survival. Four studies reported having a BMI classified as underweight improved survival, while n = 5 reported having a BMI classified as overweight or obese improved survival. CONCLUSION Current research exploring the relationship between nutritional status and BMI with HSCT survival is mixed. Further research is needed to determine how nutritional status and BMI are associated withsurvival post-HSCT to inform future intervention work.

Abstract
BACKGROUND & AIMS The European Societies for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism (ESPEN) and Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT) recommend enteral nutrition (EN) as the first-choice medical nutrition therapy in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients undergoing intensive treatments, including high-dose remission-induction chemotherapy and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). However, parenteral nutrition (PN) remains the preferred method of nutrition support in current clinical practice. The aim of this qualitative study was to gain insight into hematologists' experiences and perspectives regarding the choice and ESPEN/EBMT recommendations on EN versus PN. METHODS Online semi-structured interviews were conducted with one hematologist from each of the 21 hospitals offering intensive AML treatments in the Netherlands, using Microsoft Teams. Interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed verbatim and thematically analyzed using Atlas. ti. One hundred nineteen hematologists working in the same hospitals were invited to complete a short online questionnaire survey (SurveyMonkey®) regarding their knowledge and opinion on the ESPEN/EBMT guidelines recommending EN over PN during intensive AML treatments. The results of this survey are presented in a descriptive way. RESULTS Fifty-nine hematologists participated in this study (42% overall response rate), of which 21 in the semi-structured interviews (response rate 100%) and 38 in the online survey (response rate 32%). Hematologists considered medical nutrition therapy important for prevention and treatment of malnutrition and associated adverse outcomes in AML patients undergoing intensive remission-induction treatment and HSCT. However, opposed to the ESPEN/EBMT guidelines, the vast majority of hematologists were hesitant or reluctant to use EN instead of PN as the first-choice medical nutrition therapy in these patients. The most frequently cited barriers to use EN were the expected low feasibility and tolerance of EN, feeding tube-related discomfort and bleeding risk, and patient refusal. Other barriers to follow the guidelines on EN were related to personal factors, including hematologists' knowledge (lack of awareness and familiarity) and attitude (lack of agreement, outcome expectancy, experience, success, motivation, and learning culture), guideline-related factors (lack of evidence and applicability), and external factors (lack of collaboration and resources). Facilitators included strategies for nutrition education and dissemination of nutritional guidelines, interprofessional and patient collaboration, availability of feeding tubes that can be inserted without endoscopy and stronger scientific evidence. CONCLUSIONS Hematologists recognized the importance of medical nutrition therapy for reducing malnutrition and related negative outcomes during intensive AML treatments. However, contrary to the ESPEN/EBMT guidelines, they preferred PN instead of EN as the medical nutrition therapy of first choice. To reduce compliance barriers, interventions should focus on improving hematologists' knowledge of medical nutrition therapy and dietary guidelines, enhancing success rates of EN by adequately triaging patients eligible for EN and inserting duodenal feeding tubes using an electromagnetic sensing device without endoscopy, developing decision aids and multidisciplinary guidelines and care pathways. Furthermore, future trials should focus on the feasibility and benefits of EN versus PN both during remission-induction treatment and HSCT.

Abstract
Pretransplantation nutritional status may impact outcome after allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT). Various simple screening tools have been developed and used to identify patients at risk of malnutrition; however, how best to use these screening tools is unclear, and their accuracy for the prediction of adverse outcomes is unknown. To investigate how these different measures contribute to outcome prediction, we examined a large cohort of adults with acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) who underwent allogeneic HCT in first or second remission at our institution between April 2006 and May 2021. We assessed the prognostic role of the Nutrition Risk Index (NRI), which combines weight loss and serum albumin, in 970 adults with AML in first or second remission who had usual body weight information available at AML diagnosis or relapse and before HCT. A low NRI at the time of conditioning for HCT was associated with higher nonrelapse mortality (hazard ratio [HR], .97; 95% confidence interval [CI], .95 to .98; P < .001) and relapse risk (HR, .98; 95% CI, .96 to .99; P < .001) and decreased relapse-free survival (HR, .97; 95% CI, .96 to .98; P < .001) and overall survival (HR, .97; 95% CI, .96 to .98; P < .001), as was a low pre-HCT serum albumin level. After multivariable adjustment, NRI, but not weight loss alone, was associated with outcome. The predictive ability of NRI was overall relatively low and comparable to that of serum albumin, with a C-statistic not exceeding .59. Taken together, our data indicate that pre-HCT level of serum albumin, an acute-phase protein recognized to more accurately reflect the severity of the inflammatory response compared with poor nutritional status, but not weight loss, is independently associated with post-HCT outcome in patients with AML. © 2022 American Society for Transplantation and Cellular Therapy. Pre-Transplant Serum Leptin Levels and Relapse of Acute Myeloid Leukemia after Allogeneic Transplantation. Int J Mol Sci 2022; 23:ijms23042337. Abstract
Weight loss and metabolic activity influence outcome after allogeneic stem cell transplantation (alloSCT). This study evaluates pre-conditioning Leptin, a peptide hormone involved in metabolism and immune homeostasis, as a prognostic factor for survival, relapse and non-relapse mortality (NRM) following alloSCT. Leptin serum levels prior to conditioning were determined in a cohort of patients transplanted for various hematologic malignancies (n = 524) and correlated retrospectively with clinical outcome. Findings related to patients with acute leukemia (AL) from this sample were validated in an independent cohort. Low pre-conditioning serum Leptin was an independent prognostic marker for increased risk of relapse (but not of NRM and overall mortality) following alloSCT for AL of intermediate and advanced stage (beyond first complete remission). Multivariate analysis revealed a hazard ratio (HR) for relapse of 0.75 per log2 increase (0.59–0.96, p = 0.020). This effect was similar in an independent validation cohort. Pre-conditioning serum Leptin was validated as a prognostic marker for early relapse by fitting the multivariate Cox model to the validation data. Pre-conditioning serum Leptin levels may serve as an independent prognostic marker for relapse following alloSCT in intermediate and advanced stage AL patients. Prospective studies are required to prove whether serum Leptin could be used for guiding nutritional intervention in patients with AL undergoing alloSCT.

Abstract
Patients undergoing stem cell transplantation (SCT) are at high risk of malnutrition during the acute post-transplantation period. This systematic review aimed to collate and analyse the evidence for vitamin requirements post-SCT. A systematic search of five databases was conducted to include studies published until March 2021. The review utilised the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses (PRISMA) framework. Inclusion criteria consisted of adults undergoing SCT who received vitamin supplementation or had their vitamin levels monitored up to 100 days post-SCT. Studies with paediatric patients or those that looked at vitamin derivates such as folinic acid were excluded. Main outcomes included vitamin deficiency and relevant clinical outcomes. Eleven studies (n = 11) were eligible for inclusion with five rated as neutral quality and six as positive quality. Five studies focused on allogenic SCT, two on autologous SCT and the remaining included a mix of both. Eight studies monitored vitamins levels post-SCT, and seven studies provided vitamin supplementation. Three studies (one provided supplementation) found a high prevalence of vitamin D deficiency (23-60%) prior to SCT. Findings indicate an unclear association between vitamin deficiency and post-SCT complications including acute graft-versus-host-disease, oral mucositis, and mortality. The GRADE certainty of evidence across these outcomes was low or very low. It is unclear if supplementation is needed during SCT, though assessing vitamin D levels prior to transplant should be considered. Further large observational studies or randomised control trials are required to establish vitamin requirements and guide supplementation protocols during SCT.

Abstract
According to World Health Organization, over 50,000 hematopoietic stem cell transplants (HSCTs) are performed annually worldwide. Though HSCT can extend life-expectancy and improve disease-related health burdens, it is not without risks. Post-transplant overall survival is improving; therefore, it is imperative that factors contributing to or impeding further improvements are well understood. The purpose of this systematic review is to explore current data on body composition (specifically weight loss, BMI, obesity and sarcopenia) and the relation to HSCT outcomes. A literature search was conducted via PubMed and Web of Science databases. Key words included "body composition," "sarcopenia," "hematopoietic stem cell transplant," "malnutrition," "body mass index," and "obesity." Results indicated that 16 out of 18 analyzed studies found a statistically significant relationship between body composition, in particular higher BMI and weight loss, and at least one survival-related outcome variable (eg., non-relapse mortality, overall survival and/or relapse). Based on the findings of this review, body composition, whether evaluated before or during HSCT, can impact a wide variety of post-transplant outcomes. This speaks to the importance of evaluating patients pre-transplant, identifying potential risk factors for worsened outcomes, and providing immediate interventions in order to optimize transplant outcomes.

Abstract
Outcome of allogeneic stem cell transplantation (alloSCT) is hampered by substantial non-relapse mortality (NRM). Given its impact on organ function and immune response, the nutritional status has been suggested as relevant for NRM. We aimed to evaluate the association of NRM with nutritional status prior to alloSCT and in the post-SCT course. In a retrospective single-center study, we analyzed 128 alloSCTs. Besides standard characteristics, nutrition-associated parameters BMI, serum total protein, and serum albumin were recorded before conditioning and at various time points after alloSCT. Association with NRM was evaluated by univariate and multivariate survival analysis. The cohort comprised patients with a median BMI of 26 kg/m2 (16.7–46.9 kg/m2), median serum total protein of 59 g/l (41–77 g/l), and serum albumin of 36 g/l (22–46 g/l) before SCT. NRM at d+100 was 14.8% and at 1 year 26.6%. Prior to SCT, only serum albumin deficiency was associated with increased NRM (p = .010) in multivariate analysis. After SCT (d+30 and d+100), all nutrition-associated parameters decreased (p < .002), but no association of deteriorating nutritional status with NRM was found. In multivariate analysis, serum albumin (p = .03) and severe albumin deficiency (p = .02) correlated with NRM at d+30 and d+100, while BMI and serum total protein did not. In our study, albumin deficiency, particularly prior to alloSCT, shows a strong correlation with NRM. This finding may add to monitoring, risk evaluation, and counseling of patients and serve as a rational for interventions to improve the nutritional status in patients undergoing SCT.

Abstract
The pathogenesis of cancer is influenced by interactions among genes, proteins, metabolites and other small molecules. Understanding cancer progression at the metabolic level is propitious to the visual decoding of changes in living organisms. To date, a large number of metabolic biomarkers in cancer have been measured and reported, which provide an alternative method for cancer precision diagnosis, treatment and prognosis. To systematically understand the heterogeneity of cancers, we developed the database CMBD to integrate the cancer metabolic biomarkers scattered over literatures in PubMed. At present, CMBD contains 438 manually curated relationships between 282 biomarkers and 76 cancer subtypes of 18 tissues reported in 248 literatures. Users can access the comprehensive metabolic biomarker information about cancers, references, clinical samples and their relationships from our online database. As case studies, pathway analysis was performed on the metabolic biomarkers of breast and prostate cancers, respectively. 'Phenylalanine, tyrosine and tryptophan biosynthesis', 'phenylalanine metabolism' and 'primary bile acid biosynthesis' were identified as playing key roles in breast cancer. 'Glyoxylate and dicarboxylate metabolism', 'citrate cycle (TCA cycle)', and 'alanine, aspartate and glutamate metabolism' have important functions in prostate cancer. Abstract
Most acute leukemia patients receive consecutive intensive chemotherapy, which usually takes several months before allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HCT). Intensive chemotherapy often induces gastrointestinal adverse events. These adverse events leave patients in a state of malnutrition, leading to a reduction in body weight. In this study, we analyzed the impact of body weight loss before allo-HCT on survival outcomes of acute leukemia patients (acute myeloid leukemia, acute lymphoid leukemia and mixed phenotype acute leukemia). A loss of body weight (LBW), which was a reduction of body weight from diagnosis or relapse to transplantation, was calculated in 182 acute leukemia patients who received first allo-HCT at our center between June 2006 and September 2019. A receiver operating characteristics curve for nonrelapse mortality (NRM) was plotted for defining the cut-off value of LBW. The cutoff value of LBW was defined as 13.2%. A higher LBW was significantly associated with inferior NRM and overall survival (OS) (2-year [2y] NRM 36.1% versus 11.5%, P = .0025; 2y-OS 39.9% versus 65.8%, P = .020). The adverse impact of LBW was also confirmed in multivariate analyses for NRM and OS (HR of NRM 2.74 [1.25-6.03], P = .0012; HR of OS 2.06 [1.00-3.07], P = .0049). The main cause of death included disease progression (n = 34) and infection (n = 35). Death cause by infection was more frequently observed in the high-LBW group (15 cases [35.7%] versus 20 cases [14.3%]; P = .0035). In addition, subgroup analyses based on a combination of the body mass index at diagnosis and LBW were performed. When the non-overweight-low LBW group (body mass index [BMI] ≤25 and LBW ≤13.2%) was used as a reference in multivariate analysis, the overweight-high LBW group (BMI >25 and LBW >13.2%) showed an increased risk of poor survival outcomes (HR of NRM 4.27 [95% confidence interval {CI}, 1.82-10.0], P < .001; HR of OS 1.93 [95%, CI 1.00-3.71], P = .050). High LBW was significantly associated with inferior survival outcomes, and the adverse effect of malnutrition might be greater than the favorable effect of the reduction in overweight.

Abstract
Nutritional status is recognized as an independent and modifiable risk factor of outcome in stem cell transplant. Our research aim was to evaluate the impact of body mass index (BMI) and serum albumin on the prevalence of adverse events and survival in autologous transplant in children. A retrospective study was conducted of autologous transplants performed between 2006 and 2017 in the Children's Hospital Zagreb, Croatia. Nutritional status was assessed at the times of diagnosis, procedure, and discharge using BMI (underweight, normal, obese) and serum albumin (grades 1-4). Adverse events (fever, gastrointestinal toxicity, electrolyte disturbances, dysglycemia) and outcome (3-year, relapse, mortality) were documented. Seventy-seven children (54.5% males, mean age 7.9 years) underwent autologous transplant, mostly for neuroblastoma. In terms of BMI and albumin, which showed significant positive correlation at diagnosis (p = 0.026) and transplant (p = 0.016), most participants were well nourished. Average post-transplant weight loss was 4%. Major toxicities were severe mucositis (72.7%) and hypophosphatemia (31.2%). Relapse and mortality rates were 35.1% and 42.9%, respectively. Hypokalemia (p = 0.041) and hypomagnesemia (p = 0.044) were more prevalent in the underweight group, while obese children experienced significantly less severe mucositis (p = 0.016) and hypophosphatemia (p = 0.038). There was no significant difference regarding outcome among children of different nutritional status, although undernourished children tended to have lower relapse and mortality rates. In conclusion, underweight children are significantly more prone to severe electrolyte disorders and mucositis, and although statistical significance was not reached, are more likely to survive.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Malnutrition in patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) can develop rapidly without appropriate nutritional support and affect morbidity and mortality. Guidance to monitor and manage nutrition status is described within the literature; however, whether this is applied in clinical practice is unclear. METHODS This paper describes a cross-sectional survey to explore current practice approaches in nutrition support management and adherence to international guidelines. RESULTS A total of 108 nurses from 108 centers across 16 countries replied to the questionnaire. A significant variation was observed regarding the availability of documents supporting the monitoring and management of nutrition status, application of recommendations, and nutritional practices. DISCUSSION The findings revealed that country was the most important factor influencing the differences in practice; however, significant differences were also observed based on patient age group (pediatrics vs. adults), department composition (hematology + HSCT unit vs. HSCT unit alone), and availability of nutrition health care professionals. Behavioral differences regarding nutritional practice approaches could be indicative of differences in knowledge or subject awareness, as well as a reflection of diversity across health care system policies. CONCLUSIONS Guideline dissemination and raising awareness through educational campaigns are suggested approaches to improve health care professionals' knowledge and sensitivity to this important topic.

Abstract
Nutrition support is frequently required post-allogeneic haematopoietic progenitor cell transplantation (HPCT); however, the impact of mode of feeding on the gastrointestinal microbiome has not been explored. This study aimed to determine if there is a difference in the microbiome between patients receiving enteral nutrition (EN) and parenteral nutrition (PN) post-allogeneic HPCT. Twenty-three patients received either early EN or PN when required. Stool samples were collected at 30 days post-transplant and analysed with shotgun metagenomic sequencing. There was no difference in microbial diversity between patients who received predominantly EN (n = 13) vs. PN (n = 10) however patients who received predominantly EN had greater abundance of Faecalibacterium (P < 0·001) and ruminococcus E bromii (P = 0·026). Patients who had minimal oral intake for a longer duration during provision of nutrition support had a different overall microbial profile (P = 0·044), lower microbial diversity (P = 0·004) and lower abundance of faecalibacterium prausnitzii_C (P = 0·030) and Blautia (P = 0·007) compared to patients with greater oral intake. Lower microbial diversity was found in patients who received additional beta lactam antibiotics (P = 0·042) or had a longer length of hospital stay (P = 0·019). Post-HPCT oral intake should be encouraged to maintain microbiota diversity and, if nutrition support is required, EN may promote a more optimal microbiota profile.

Abstract
The role of body weight change in survival among recipients of hematopoietic stem-cell transplantation is controversial. We assessed the effect of optimizing energy and protein intake on 1-year survival, body weight and body composition, and the effect of body weight and body composition on 1-year survival in 117 patients (57 intervention, 60 control) in a randomized controlled trial. Cox regression was used to study effects of the intervention, weight and body composition on death, relapse, and nonrelapse mortality (NRM). We found no significant effect of intervention versus control on death hazard ratio (HR) 1.05, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.54-2.04, p = 0.88), relapse (HR 1.15, 95% CI 0.48-2.27, p = 0.75), and NRM (HR 0.95, 95% CI 0.39-2.28, p = 0.90). Body weight, fat-free mass index, body fat mass index and total body water changed over time (p < 0.001), similarly in both groups (0.17 ≤ p ≤ 0.98). In multivariable analyses adjusted for group, gender and age, HRs and 95% CIs per one kilo increase in weight were 1.03 (1.01-1.06) and 1.04 (1.01-1.08) for death and NRM after 1 year (p ≤ 0.02), respectively, and 1.08 (1.01-1.15) for relapse after 3 months (p = 0.02). In conclusion, weight gain is possibly due to fluid retention and is an indicator of a complication in HSCT, rather than a marker of improved nutritional status.

Abstract
Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) causes many complications such as anorexia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and mucositis. Most patients undergoing HSCT have risk for malnutrition in the process of transplantation so artificial nutrition support is required. The purpose of this case report is to share our experience of applying nutrition intervention during the transplantation period. According to HSCT process, the change of the patient's gastrointestinal symptoms, oral intake and nutritional status was recorded. By encouraging oral intake and providing parenteral nutrition, the patient had only 0.3%, losing weight during the transplantation period. In conclusion, it emphasized that the nutritional status changes during the HSCT period should be closely monitored and nutritional management through appropriate nutritional support and interventions in hospital and after discharge.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW Malnutrition before and during hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is an independent risk factor for mortality in patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Yet, optimal use of nutritional support to improve outcomes remains controversial. Our aim was to do an up-to-date literature review regarding nutritional therapy in allogeneic HSCT, the neutropenic diet and the use of immunonutrients. RECENT FINDINGS Several observational studies find malnutrition to be associated with poor outcome, increased complications and lower overall survival. There are, however, few interventional trials proving the benefits of nutritional therapy in this population compared with no nutritional treatment. Regarding routes of treatment, studies suggested that parenteral nutrition is associated with higher risk for complications compared with enteral nutrition. Whether the use of specific formulas, such as immunonutrition, has a beneficial effect on clinical outcome is not established yet. Strict use of neutropenic diets did not show a reduction in infection risk and clinical outcome, and can no longer be recommended. SUMMARY Our updated search confirms that malnutrition is a strong negative predictor for outcome, yet optimal use of nutritional interventions to prevent or treat malnutrition remains ill-defined. There is need for larger randomized trials to better address these issues in the future.

Abstract
In 2009, the American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition and its European counterpart (Euopean Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition) published guidelines regarding nutritional support of patients with hematologic stem cell transplantation. Our aim was to do an up-to-date literature review regarding benefit of nutritional interventions and treatment recommendations. We searched MEDLINE, EMBASE and Cochrane Library for interventional and observational clinical studies. We extracted data based on a predefined case report form and assessed bias. Out of 459 potential abstracts, 13 studies of mostly moderate quality with a total of 18 167 patients were included. Two very large trials reported negative associations of malnutrition and survival, transplant-related mortality and relapse risk. Some trials found enteral nutrition (EN) to be as effective as parenteral nutrition (PN) with lower complication rates. In addition, EN was associated with better survival, less acute GvHD and faster neutrophil recovery. A neutropenic diet was not superior regarding overall survival, but in contrast resulted in higher infection risk. Current moderate quality studies show negative associations of malnutrition and clinical outcomes, with EN being superior to PN. There was no benefit of neutropenic diets. Large, randomized controlled studies are needed to better understand optimal nutritional support in this patient population.

Abstract
Allogeneic stem cell transplantation (alloSCT) represents a curative therapeutic option for patients with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), but relapse and non-relapse mortality (NRM) limit treatment efficacy. Based on our previous observation in acute myeloid leukemia we investigated the impact of pre-transplant weight loss on post-transplant outcome in MDS patients. A total of 111 patients diagnosed with MDS according to WHO criteria transplanted between 2000 and 2012 in three different transplant centers were included into the analysis. Data on weight loss were collected from medical records prior to conditioning therapy and 3–6 months earlier. Patient, disease and transplant characteristics did not differ between patients with weight loss (2–5%, n = 17; > 5%, n = 17) and those without (n = 77). In a mixed effect model, weight loss was associated with higher risk MDS (p = 0.046). In multivariable analyses, pre-transplant weight loss exceeding 5% was associated with a higher incidence of relapse (p < 0.001) and NRM (p = 0.007). Pre-transplant weight loss of 2–5% and > 5% were independent predictors of worse disease-free (p = 0.023 and p < 0.001, respectively) and overall survival (p = 0.043 and p < 0.001, respectively). Our retrospective study suggests that MDS patients losing weight prior to alloSCT have an inferior outcome after transplantation. Prospective studies addressing pre-transplant nutritional interventions are highly warranted.
