63,65Cu and 17O spin-echo decay and the static susceptibility chi '(q) in La1.85Sr0.15CuO4

Superconductivity Emerging from an Electronic Phase Separation in the Charge Ordered Phase of RbFe_{2}As_{2}

^{75}As, ^{87}Rb, and ^{85}Rb nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) and ^{87}Rb nuclear magnetic resonance measurements in a RbFe_{2}As_{2} iron-based superconductor are presented. We observe a marked broadening of the ^{75}As NQR spectrum below T_{0}≃140  K which is associated with the onset of a charge order in the FeAs planes. Below T_{0} we observe a power-law decrease in the ^{75}As nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate down to T^{*}≃20  K. Below T^{*} the nuclei start to probe different dynamics owing to the different local electronic configurations induced by the charge order. A fraction of the nuclei probes spin dynamics associated with electrons approaching a localization while another fraction probes activated dynamics possibly associated with a pseudogap. These different trends are discussed in light of an orbital selective behavior expected for the electronic correlations.

Hahn-echo decay for exchange-coupled nuclear spins in solids

In this paper we present a simple model to calculate the Hahn-echo decay of the exchange-coupled nuclear spins in solids. Satisfactory agreement between the calculated and experimentally observed echo decay of the exchange-coupled spins of T203l and T205l isotopes in thallium chloride TlCl and thallium tantalum sulfide TlTaS(3) is obtained.

Crossover from the quantum critical to overdamped regime in the heavy-fermion system USn3

We report measurements of the 119Sn nuclear spin-echo decay rate 1/T2G in the heavy-fermion compound USn3. From 1/T2G, the magnetic spin-spin correlation length xi is found to vary as xi approximately T(-3/4) above approximately 100 K, which is expected for a quantum critical regime at high temperatures. Combined with the spin-lattice relaxation rate 1/T1, T1T/T2G2 is found to be temperature independent in the heavy-fermion state below T* approximately 30 K. This indicates that the heavy-fermion state of USn3 is categorized in the overdamped regime with a dynamical critical exponent z=2. These observations are consistent with a spin density wave magnetic instability at the quantum critical point.

Inhomogeneous electronic structure probed by spin-echo experiments in the electron doped high-Tc superconductor Pr1.85Ce0.15CuO4-y

63Cu nuclear magnetic resonance spin-echo decay rate (T-12) measurements are reported for the normal and superconducting states of a single crystal of Pr(1.85)Ce(0.15)CuO(4-y) in a magnetic field B(0)=9 T over the temperature range 2<T<200 K. The spin-echo decay rate is temperature dependent for T<55 K and has a substantial dependence on the radio frequency (rf) pulse parameters below T approximately 25 K. This dependence indicates that T-12 is strongly effected by a local magnetic field distribution that can be modified by the rf pulses, including ones that are not at the nuclear Larmor frequency. The low-temperature results are consistent with the formation of a static inhomogeneous electronic structure that couples to the rf fields of the pulses.

Origin of the enhanced copper spin echo decay rate in the pseudogap regime of the multilayer high-T(c) cuprates

We report measurements of the anisotropy of the spin echo decay for the inner layer Cu site of the triple layer cuprate Hg(0.8)Re(0.2)Ba(2)Ca(2)Cu(3)O(8) (T(c)=126 K). The angular dependence of the second moment (T(-2)(2M) identical with <Deltaomega(2)>) deduced from the decay curves indicates that T(-2)(2M) for H0 parallel c is enhanced in the pseudogap regime below T(pg) approximately 170 K, as seen in bilayer systems. Comparison of T(-2)(2M) between H0 parallel c and H0 perpendicular c indicates that this enhancement is caused by electron spin correlations between the inner and the outer CuO2 layers. The results provide the answer to the long-standing controversy regarding the opposite T dependences of (T1T)(-1) and T(-2)(2G) (T(2G): Gaussian component) in the pseudogap regime of multilayer systems.

Charge degree of freedom and the single-spin fluid model in YBa2Cu4O8

We present a 17O nuclear magnetic resonance study in the stoichiometric superconductor YBa2Cu4O8. A double irradiation method enables us to show that, below around 200 K, the spin-lattice relaxation rate of plane oxygen is not only driven by magnetic fluctuations, but also significantly by quadrupolar fluctuations, i. e., low-frequency charge fluctuations. In the superconducting state, on lowering the temperature, the quadrupolar relaxation diminishes faster than the magnetic one. These findings show that, with the opening of the spin pseudogap, a charge degree of freedom of mainly oxygen character is present in the electronic low-energy excitation spectrum.

Contributions of spin-lattice relaxation to the echo decay of planar Cu in high-temperature superconductors

Measurement of T2G, the Gaussian component of the spin-echo envelope of planar Cu nuclei in high-temperature superconductors, gives important information about the real part of the Cu electron spin susceptibility. In the traditional picture of the planar Cu echo decay, the internuclear coupling is assumed to remain static with respect to spin-lattice relaxation and mutual exchange fluctuations. In some circumstances, however, this assumption breaks down. We calculate the internuclear corrections arising from spin-lattice relaxation to the conventional theory of T2G and show that T2G can be easily corrected for these effects. We argue that mutual exchanges due to the perpendicular indirect couplings are suppressed in these materials. For YBa2Cu4O8, we find a correction on the order of 10% in T2g and using the corrected values we find that the isotope ration 63T2G/65T2G agrees with theory.
