Abstract
We report higher-order coupling induced stable chimeralike state in a bipartite network of coupled phase oscillators without any time-delay in the coupling. We show that the higher-order interaction breaks the symmetry of the homogeneous synchronized state to facilitate the manifestation of symmetry breaking chimeralike state. In particular, such symmetry breaking manifests only when the pairwise interaction is attractive and higher-order interaction is repulsive, and vice versa. Further, we also demonstrate the increased degree of heterogeneity promotes homogeneous symmetric states in the phase diagram by suppressing the asymmetric chimeralike state. We deduce the low-dimensional evolution equations for the macroscopic order parameters using Ott-Antonsen ansatz and obtain the bifurcation curves from them using the software xppaut, which agrees very well with the simulation results. We also deduce the analytical stability conditions for the incoherent state, in-phase and out-of-phase synchronized states, which match with the bifurcation curves.

Abstract
A twisted state is an important yet simple form of collective dynamics in an oscillatory medium. Here we describe a nontrivial type of twisted state in a system of nonlocally coupled Stuart-Landau oscillators. The nontrivial twisted state (NTS) is a coherent traveling wave characterized by inhomogeneous profiles of amplitudes and phase gradients, which can be assigned a winding number. To further investigate its properties, several methods are employed. We perform a linear stability analysis in the continuum limit and compare the results with Lyapunov exponents obtained in a finite-size system. The determination of covariant Lyapunov vectors allows us to identify collective modes. Furthermore, we show that the NTS is robust to small heterogeneities in the natural frequencies and present a bifurcation analysis revealing that NTSs are born or annihilated in a saddle-node bifurcation and change their stability in Hopf bifurcations. We observe stable NTSs with winding number 1 and 2. The latter can lose stability in a supercritical Hopf bifurcation, leading to a modulated 2-NTS.

Abstract
The emergence of collective synchrony from an incoherent state is a phenomenon essentially described by the Kuramoto model. This canonical model was derived perturbatively, by applying phase reduction to an ensemble of heterogeneous, globally coupled Stuart-Landau oscillators. This derivation neglects nonlinearities in the coupling constant. We show here that a comprehensive analysis requires extending the Kuramoto model up to quadratic order. This "enlarged Kuramoto model" comprises three-body (nonpairwise) interactions, which induce strikingly complex phenomenology at certain parameter values. As the coupling is increased, a secondary instability renders the synchronized state unstable, and subsequent bifurcations lead to collective chaos. An efficient numerical study of the thermodynamic limit, valid for Gaussian heterogeneity, is carried out by means of a Fourier-Hermite decomposition of the oscillator density.

Abstract
Chimeras occur in networks of two coupled populations of oscillators when the oscillators in one population synchronize while those in the other are asynchronous. We consider chimeras of this form in networks of planar oscillators for which one parameter associated with the dynamics of an oscillator is randomly chosen from a uniform distribution. A generalization of the previous approach [Laing, Phys. Rev. E 100, 042211 (2019)2470-004510.1103/PhysRevE.100.042211], which dealt with identical oscillators, is used to investigate the existence and stability of chimeras for these heterogeneous networks in the limit of an infinite number of oscillators. In all cases, making the oscillators more heterogeneous destroys the stable chimera in a saddle-node bifurcation. The results help us understand the robustness of chimeras in networks of general oscillators to heterogeneity.

Abstract
We study the collective behaviors of a large population of Stuart-Landau limit-cycle oscillators that coupled diffusively and equally with all of the others via the conjugate of the mean field, where the underlying interaction is shown to break the rotational symmetry of the coupled system. In the model, an ensemble of Stuart-Landau oscillators are in fact diffusively coupled via the mean field in the real parts, whereas additional repulsive links are present in the imaginary parts. All the oscillators are linked via the similar state variables, which distinctly differs from the conjugate coupling through dissimilar variables in the previous studies. We show that depending on the strength of coupling and the distribution of natural frequencies, the coupled system exhibits three qualitatively different types of collective stationary behaviors: amplitude death (AD), oscillation death (OD), and incoherent state. Our goal is to analytically characterize the onset of the above three typical macrostates by performing the rigorous linear stability analyses of the corresponding mean-field coupled system. We prove that AD is able to occur in the coupled system with identical frequencies, where the stable coupling interval of AD is found to be independent on the system's size N. When the natural frequencies are distributed according to a general density function, we obtain the analytic equations that govern the exact stability boundaries of AD, OD, and the incoherence for a coupled system in the thermodynamic limit N→∞. All the theoretical predictions are well confirmed via numerical simulations of the coupled system with a specific Lorentzian frequency distribution.

Abstract
We investigated locking behaviors of coupled limit-cycle oscillators with phase and amplitude dynamics. We focused on how the dynamics are affected by inhomogeneous coupling strength and by angular and radial shifts in coupling functions. We performed mean-field analyses of oscillator systems with inhomogeneous coupling strength, testing Gaussian, power-law, and brain-like degree distributions. Even for oscillators with identical intrinsic frequencies and intrinsic amplitudes, we found that the coupling strength distribution and the coupling function generated a wide repertoire of phase and amplitude dynamics. These included fully and partially locked states in which high-degree or low-degree nodes would phase-lead the network. The mean-field analytical findings were confirmed via numerical simulations. The results suggest that, in oscillator systems in which individual nodes can independently vary their amplitude over time, qualitatively different dynamics can be produced via shifts in the coupling strength distribution and the coupling form. Of particular relevance to information flows in oscillator networks, changes in the non-specific drive to individual nodes can make high-degree nodes phase-lag or phase-lead the rest of the network.

Abstract
The dynamics of an ensemble of N weakly coupled limit-cycle oscillators can be captured by their N phases using standard phase reduction techniques. However, it is a phenomenological fact that all-to-all strongly coupled limit-cycle oscillators may behave as "quasiphase oscillators," evidencing the need of novel reduction strategies. We introduce, here, quasi phase reduction (QPR), a scheme suited for identical oscillators with polar symmetry (λ-ω systems). By applying QPR, we achieve a reduction to N+2 degrees of freedom: N phase oscillators interacting through one independent complex variable. This "quasi phase model" is asymptotically valid in the neighborhood of incoherent states, irrespective of the coupling strength. The effectiveness of QPR is illustrated in a particular case, an ensemble of Stuart-Landau oscillators, obtaining exact stability boundaries of uniform and nonuniform incoherent states for a variety of couplings. An extension of QPR beyond the neighborhood of incoherence is also explored. Finally, a general QPR model with N+2M degrees of freedom is obtained for coupling through the first M harmonics.

Abstract
We consider networks formed from two populations of identical oscillators, with uniform strength all-to-all coupling within populations and also between populations with a different strength. Such systems are known to support chimera states in which oscillators within one population are perfectly synchronized while in the other the oscillators are incoherent and have a different mean frequency from those in the synchronous population. Assuming that the oscillators in the incoherent population always lie on a closed smooth curve C, we derive and analyze the dynamics of the shape of C and the probability density on C for four different types of oscillators. We put some previously derived results on a more rigorous footing and analyze two new systems.

Abstract
Phase reduction is a powerful technique that makes possible to describe the dynamics of a weakly perturbed limit-cycle oscillator in terms of its phase. For ensembles of oscillators, a classical example of phase reduction is the derivation of the Kuramoto model from the mean-field complex Ginzburg-Landau equation (MF-CGLE). Still, the Kuramoto model is a first-order phase approximation that displays either full synchronization or incoherence, but none of the nontrivial dynamics of the MF-CGLE. This fact calls for an expansion beyond the first order in the coupling constant. We develop an isochron-based scheme to obtain the second-order phase approximation, which reproduces the weak-coupling dynamics of the MF-CGLE. The practicality of our method is evidenced by extending the calculation up to third order. Each new term of the power-series expansion contributes with additional higher-order multibody (i.e., nonpairwise) interactions. This points to intricate multibody phase interactions as the source of pure collective chaos in the MF-CGLE at moderate coupling.
