Abstract
Understanding topological matter in the fractional quantum Hall (FQH) effect requires identifying the nature of edge state quasiparticles. FQH edge state at the filling factor ν=2/3 in the spin-polarized and unpolarized phases is represented by the two modes of composite fermions (CF) with the parallel or opposite spins described by the chiral Luttinger liquids. Tunneling through a quantum point contact (QPC) between different or similar spin phases is solved exactly. With the increase of the applied voltage, the QPC conductance grows from zero and saturates at e^{2}/2h while a weak electron tunneling between the edge modes with the same spin transforms into a backscattering carried by the charge q=e/2 quasiparticles. These unusual quasiparticles and conductance plateau emerge when one or two CF spin-polarized modes in the QPC tunnel into a single mode. We propose experiments on the applied voltage and temperature dependence of the QPC conductance and noise that can shed light on the nature of edge states and FQH transport.

Abstract
Quantum Hall (QH) edge channels propagating along the periphery of two-dimensional (2D) electron gases under perpendicular magnetic field are a major paradigm in physics. However, groundbreaking experiments that could use them in graphene are hampered by the conjecture that QH edge channels undergo a reconstruction with additional nontopological upstream modes. By performing scanning tunneling spectroscopy up to the edge of a graphene flake on hexagonal boron nitride, we show that QH edge channels are confined to a few magnetic lengths at the crystal edges. This implies that they are ideal 1D chiral channels defined by boundary conditions of vanishing electronic wave functions at the crystal edges, hence free of electrostatic reconstruction. We further evidence a uniform charge carrier density at the edges, incompatible with the existence of upstream modes. This work has profound implications for electron and heat transport experiments in graphene-based systems and other 2D crystalline materials.

Abstract
The ν=2/3 fractional quantum Hall state is the hole-conjugate state to the primary Laughlin ν=1/3 state. We investigate transmission of edge states through quantum point contacts fabricated on a GaAs/AlGaAs heterostructure designed to have a sharp confining potential. When a small but finite bias is applied, we observe an intermediate conductance plateau with G=0.5(e^{2}/h). This plateau is observed in multiple QPCs, and persists over a significant range of magnetic field, gate voltage, and source-drain bias, making it a robust feature. Using a simple model that considers scattering and equilibration between counterflowing charged edge modes, we find this half-integer quantized plateau to be consistent with full reflection of an inner counterpropagating -1/3 edge mode while the outer integer mode is fully transmitted. In a QPC fabricated on a different heterostructure which has a softer confining potential, we instead observe an intermediate conductance plateau at G=(1/3)(e^{2}/h). These results provide support for a model at ν=2/3 in which the edge transitions from a structure having an inner upstream -1/3 charge mode and outer downstream integer mode to a structure with two downstream 1/3 charge modes when the confining potential is tuned from sharp to soft and disorder prevails.

Abstract
Quasi-particles are elementary excitations of condensed matter quantum phases. Demonstrating that they keep quantum coherence while propagating is a fundamental issue for their manipulation for quantum information tasks. Here, we consider anyons, the fractionally charged quasi-particles of the Fractional Quantum Hall Effect occurring in two-dimensional electronic conductors in high magnetic fields. They obey anyonic statistics, intermediate between fermionic and bosonic. Surprisingly, anyons show large quantum coherence when transmitted through the localized states of electronic Fabry-Pérot interferometers, but almost no quantum interference when transmitted via the propagating states of Mach-Zehnder interferometers. Here, using a novel interferometric approach, we demonstrate that anyons do keep quantum coherence while propagating. Performing two-particle time-domain interference measurements sensitive to the two-particle Hanbury Brown Twiss phase, we find 53 and 60% visibilities for anyons with charges e/5 and e/3. Our results give a positive message for the challenge of performing controlled quantum coherent braiding of anyons.

Abstract
Chiral gapless boundary modes are characteristic of quantum Hall (QH) states. For hole-conjugate fractional QH phases counterpropagating edge modes (upstream and downstream) are expected. In the presence of electrostatic interactions and disorder these modes may renormalize into charge and upstream neutral modes. Orthodox models of Laughlin phases anticipate only a downstream charge mode. Here we show that in the latter case, in the presence of a smooth confining potential, edge reconstruction leads to the emergence of pairs of counterpropagating modes, which, by way of mode renormalization, may give rise to nontopological upstream neutral modes, possessing nontrivial statistics. This may explain the experimental observation of ubiquitous neutral modes, and the overwhelming suppression of anyonic interference in Mach-Zehnder interferometry platforms. We also point out other signatures of such edge reconstruction.

Abstract
Quantum Hall interferometers have been used to probe fractional charge and statistics of quasiparticles. We present measurements of a small Fabry-Perot interferometer in which the electrostatic coupling constants which affect interferometer behavior can be determined experimentally. Near the center of the ν = 1/3 state this device exhibits Aharonov-Bohm interference interrupted by a few discrete phase jumps, and Φ0 oscillations at higher and lower magnetic fields, consistent with theoretical predictions for detection of anyonic statistics. We estimate the electrostatic parameters KI and KIL by two methods: using the ratio of oscillation periods in compressible versus incompressible regions, and from finite-bias conductance measurements. We find that the extracted KI and KIL can account for the deviation of the phase jumps from the theoretical anyonic phase θa = 2π/3. At integer states, we find that KI and KIL can account for the Aharonov-Bohm and Coulomb-dominated behavior of different edge states.

Abstract
We attempted to measure interference of the outer edge mode in the fractional quantum hall regime with an electronic Mach-zehnder interferometer. The visibility of the interferometer wore off as we approached ν_{B}=1 and the transmission of the quantum point contacts (QPCs) of the interferometer simultaneously developed a v=1/3 conductance plateau accompanied by shot noise. The appearance of shot noise on this plateau indicates the appearance of nontopological neutral modes resulting from edge reconstruction. We have confirmed the presence of upstream neutral modes measuring upstream noise emanating from the QPC. The lack of interference throughout the lowest Landau level was correlated with a proliferation of neutral modes.

Abstract
We consider a fractional quantum Hall bilayer system with an interface between quantum Hall states of filling fractions (ν_{top},ν_{bottom})=(1,1) and (1/3,2), motivated by a recent approach to engineering artificial edges [Y. Ronen et al., Nat. Phys. 14, 411 (2018)NPAHAX1745-247310.1038/s41567-017-0035-2]. We show that random tunneling and strong repulsive interactions within one of the layers will drive the system to a stable fixed point with two counterpropagating charge modes which have attractive interactions. As a result, slowly decaying correlations on the edge become predominantly superconducting. We discuss the resulting observable effects and derive general requirements for electron attraction in Abelian quantum Hall states. The broader interest in fractional quantum Hall edge with quasi-long-range superconducting order lies in the prospects of hosting exotic anyonic boundary excitations, which may serve as a platform for topological quantum computation.

Abstract
We show theoretically that a thermoelectric heat engine, operating exclusively due to quantum-mechanical interference, can reach optimal linear-response performance. A chiral edge state implementation of a close-to-optimal heat engine is proposed in an electronic Mach-Zehnder interferometer with a mesoscopic capacitor coupled to one arm. We demonstrate that the maximum power and corresponding efficiency can reach 90% and 83%, respectively, of the theoretical maximum. The proposed heat engine can be realized with existing experimental techniques and has a performance robust against moderate dephasing.
