Lindblad Master Equations for Quantum Systems Coupled to Dissipative Bosonic Modes

Hybrid Boson Sampling

We propose boson sampling from a system of coupled photons and Bose-Einstein condensed atoms placed inside a multi-mode cavity as a simulation process testing the quantum advantage of quantum systems over classical computers. Consider a two-level atomic transition far-detuned from photon frequency. An atom-photon scattering and interatomic collisions provide interactions that create quasiparticles and excite atoms and photons into squeezed entangled states, orthogonal to the atomic condensate and classical field driving the two-level transition, respectively. We find a joint probability distribution of atom and photon numbers within a quasi-equilibrium model via a hafnian of an extended covariance matrix. It shows a sampling statistics that is ♯P-hard for computing, even if only photon numbers are sampled. Merging cavity-QED and quantum-gas technologies into a hybrid boson sampling setup has the potential to overcome the limitations of separate, photon or atom, sampling schemes and reveal quantum advantage.

Analysis of chaos and regularity in the open Dicke model

We present an analysis of chaos and regularity in the open Dicke model, when dissipation is due to cavity losses. Due to the infinite Liouville space of this model, we also introduce a criterion to numerically find a complex spectrum which approximately represents the system spectrum. The isolated Dicke model has a well-defined classical limit with two degrees of freedom. We select two case studies where the classical isolated system shows regularity and where chaos appears. To characterize the open system as regular or chaotic, we study regions of the complex spectrum taking windows over the absolute value of its eigenvalues. Our results for this infinite-dimensional system agree with the Grobe-Haake-Sommers (GHS) conjecture for Markovian dissipative open quantum systems, finding the expected 2D Poisson distribution for regular regimes, and the distribution of the Ginibre unitary ensemble (GinUE) for the chaotic ones, respectively.

Tunable Non-Markovianity for Bosonic Quantum Memristors

We studied the tunable control of the non-Markovianity of a bosonic mode due to its coupling to a set of auxiliary qubits, both embedded in a thermal reservoir. Specifically, we considered a single cavity mode coupled to auxiliary qubits described by the Tavis-Cummings model. As a figure of merit, we define the dynamical non-Markovianity as the tendency of a system to return to its initial state, instead of evolving monotonically to its steady state. We studied how this dynamical non-Markovianity can be manipulated in terms of the qubit frequency. We found that the control of the auxiliary systems affects the cavity dynamics as an effective time-dependent decay rate. Finally, we show how this tunable time-dependent decay rate can be tuned to engineer bosonic quantum memristors, involving memory effects that are fundamental for developing neuromorphic quantum technologies.
