Enhanced Polar Lights Optimization with Cryptobiosis and Differential Evolution for Global Optimization and Feature Selection

Optimization algorithms play a crucial role in solving complex problems across various fields, including global optimization and feature selection (FS). This paper presents the enhanced polar lights optimization with cryptobiosis and differential evolution (CPLODE), a novel improvement upon the original polar lights optimization (PLO) algorithm. CPLODE integrates a cryptobiosis mechanism and differential evolution (DE) operators to enhance PLO's search capabilities. The original PLO's particle collision strategy is replaced with DE's mutation and crossover operators, enabling a more effective global exploration and using a dynamic crossover rate to improve convergence. Furthermore, a cryptobiosis mechanism records and reuses historically successful solutions, thereby improving the greedy selection process. The experimental results on 29 CEC 2017 benchmark functions demonstrate CPLODE's superior performance compared to eight classical optimization algorithms, with higher average ranks and faster convergence. Moreover, CPLODE achieved competitive results in feature selection on ten real-world datasets, outperforming several well-known binary metaheuristic algorithms in classification accuracy and feature reduction. These results highlight CPLODE's effectiveness for both global optimization and feature selection.

Multi-Strategy Enhanced Parrot Optimizer: Global Optimization and Feature Selection

Optimization algorithms are pivotal in addressing complex problems across diverse domains, including global optimization and feature selection (FS). In this paper, we introduce the Enhanced Crisscross Parrot Optimizer (ECPO), an improved version of the Parrot Optimizer (PO), designed to address these challenges effectively. The ECPO incorporates a sophisticated strategy selection mechanism that allows individuals to retain successful behaviors from prior iterations and shift to alternative strategies in case of update failures. Additionally, the integration of a crisscross (CC) mechanism promotes more effective information exchange among individuals, enhancing the algorithm's exploration capabilities. The proposed algorithm's performance is evaluated through extensive experiments on the CEC2017 benchmark functions, where it is compared with ten other conventional optimization algorithms. Results demonstrate that the ECPO consistently outperforms these algorithms across various fitness landscapes. Furthermore, a binary version of the ECPO is developed and applied to FS problems on ten real-world datasets, demonstrating its ability to achieve competitive error rates with reduced feature subsets. These findings suggest that the ECPO holds promise as an effective approach for both global optimization and feature selection.

A new feature selection approach with binary exponential henry gas solubility optimization and hybrid data transformation methods

In the common classification practices, feature selection is an important aspect that highly impacts the computation efficacy of the model, while implementing complex computer vision tasks. The metaheuristic optimization algorithms gain popularity to obtain optimal feature subset. However, the feature selection using metaheuristics suffers from two common stability problems, namely premature convergence and slow convergence rate. Therefore, to handle the stability problems, this paper presents a fused dataset transformation approach by joining weighted Principal Component Analysis and Fast Independent Component Analysis Techniques. The presented method solves the stability issues by first transforming the original dataset, thereafter newly proposed variant of Henry Gas Solubility Optimization is employed for obtaining a new feature's subset. The proposed method has been compared with other metaheuristic approaches across seven benchmark datasets and observed that it selects better features set which improves the accuracy and computational complexity of the model.

Feature selection method based on stochastic fractal search henry gas solubility optimization algorithm

In most data mining tasks, feature selection is an essential preprocessing stage. Henry’s Gas Solubility Optimization (HGSO) algorithm is a physical heuristic algorithm based on Henry’s law, which simulates the process of gas solubility in liquid with temperature. In this paper, an improved Henry’s Gas Solubility Optimization based on stochastic fractal search (SFS-HGSO) is proposed for feature selection and engineering optimization. Three stochastic fractal strategies based on Gaussian walk, Lévy flight and Brownian motion are adopted respectively, and the diffusion is based on the high-quality solutions obtained by the original algorithm. Individuals with different fitness are assigned different energies, and the number of diffusing individuals is determined according to individual energy. This strategy increases the diversity of search strategies and enhances the ability of local search. It greatly improves the shortcomings of the original HGSO position updating method is single and the convergence speed is slow. This algorithm is used to solve the problem of feature selection, and KNN classifier is used to evaluate the effectiveness of selected features. In order to verify the performance of the proposed feature selection method, 20 standard UCI benchmark datasets are used, and the performance is compared with other swarm intelligence optimization algorithms, such as WOA, HHO and HBA. The algorithm is also applied to the solution of benchmark function. Experimental results show that these three improved strategies can effectively improve the performance of HGSO algorithm, and achieve excellent results in feature selection and engineering optimization problems.

A survey of uncover misleading and cyberbullying on social media for public health

Misleading health information is a critical phenomenon in our modern life due to advance in technology. In fact, social media facilitated the dissemination of information, and as a result, misinformation spread rapidly, cheaply, and successfully. Fake health information can have a significant effect on human behavior and attitudes. This survey presents the current works developed for misleading information detection (MLID) in health fields based on machine learning and deep learning techniques and introduces a detailed discussion of the main phases of the generic adopted approach for MLID. In addition, we highlight the benchmarking datasets and the most used metrics to evaluate the performance of MLID algorithms are discussed and finally, a deep investigation of the limitations and drawbacks of the current progressing technologies in various research directions is provided to help the researchers to use the most proper methods in this emerging task of MLID.
