Abstract
PURPOSE Multidimensional Individualized Stuttering Therapy (MIST) is based on proactive collaborative work and shared decision making between client and clinician with the goal of identifying individual case-appropriate procedures and therapy elements in a manner that is meaningful and context-sensitive for each person. MIST combines value- and awareness-based elements from acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) with stuttering and speech modification interventions. In keeping with the principles of ACT, we locate mindfulness as part of an embodied practice facilitated through a collaboration between the person who stutters and the speech-language therapist. METHOD The aim of this study was to see whether the positive results of MIST recorded at 12 months post-therapy remained stable at 24 months post-therapy and to consider the role of embodiment and awareness within MIST. Fifteen of 18 adults already enrolled in a treatment study (2015/FO12451) took part in a single-group repeated-measures design. They completed measures of stuttering severity, impact of stuttering, unhelpful thoughts and beliefs about stuttering, general anxiety symptoms, and fear of negative evaluation. RESULTS There was a significant reduction of stuttering severity and negative impact of stuttering from pre-therapy to 24 months post-therapy. Unhelpful thoughts and beliefs about stuttering, symptoms of general anxiety, and fear of negative evaluation were reduced at 12 months post-therapy, and these values remained stable at 24 months post-therapy. CONCLUSIONS MIST was associated with positive outcomes at 24 months post-therapy, suggesting a possible connection between the person-centered approach and longer-term benefit. Findings are discussed within the context of mindfulness and embodied adjustment, and shared client-clinician decision making. The absence of a control group is a limiting factor regarding certainty of interpretation. Future research is therefore needed on collaborative and individualized approaches to stuttering therapy that include embodiment and awareness perspectives.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES In this study, we introduce an intervention based on two techniques: twang and medialization. The hypothesis is that a combination of these two techniques will enable trans women to gain feminine-sounding speech without vocal strain or harm. METHOD Five trans women took part in the study. A control group of five cisgender women and five cisgender men were included. A list of 14 monosyllabic words was created, where the vowel /ɑ/ was embedded in various consonant contexts. All participants were asked to read the word list three times, each time presented in a different order. The trans women read the word list before and after intervention. Acoustic analyses of fundamental frequency and the first, second, and third formant frequencies were conducted. For the perceptual analysis, 60 voice samples were selected from the entire material. Fifteen listeners were asked whether they perceived the voice samples as feminine, masculine, or uncertain. The listeners were also asked for gender judgments based on sentences read by the trans women after intervention. RESULTS The acoustic analyses revealed an increase in fundamental frequencies and first, second, and third formants after intervention for all five trans women, approaching the values of the female controls. The perceptual judgments showed that the majority of the trans women voice samples were perceived as feminine after intervention. CONCLUSIONS Based on the acoustic analyses and the perceptual evaluations, the conclusion seems to show that the combination of the techniques twang and medialization enable the trans women to obtain feminine attribution. Nevertheless, the study is too small for generalizations. However, a take-home message is that it is appropriate to focus primarily on resonance, in addition to speaking fundamental frequency, to gain feminine-sounding speech.

Abstract
PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to identify commonalities and differences between content components in stuttering treatment programs for preschool-age children. METHOD In this document analysis, a thematic analysis of the content was conducted of handbooks and manuals describing Early Childhood Stuttering Therapy, the Lidcombe Program, Mini-KIDS, Palin Parent-Child Interaction Therapy, RESTART Demands and Capacities Model Method, and the Westmead Program. First, a theoretical framework defining a content component in treatment was developed. Second, we coded and categorized the data following the procedure of reflexive thematic analysis. In addition, the first authors of the treatment documents have reviewed the findings in this study, and their feedback has been analyzed and taken into consideration. RESULTS Sixty-one content components within the seven themes-interaction, coping, reactions, everyday life, information, language, and speech-were identified across the treatment programs. The content component SLP providing information about the child's stuttering was identified across all treatment programs. All programs are multithematic, and no treatment program has a single focus on speech, language, or parent-child interaction. A comparison of the programs with equal treatment goals highlighted more commonalities in content components across the programs. The differences between the treatment programs were evident in both the number of content components that varied from seven to 39 and the content included in each treatment program. CONCLUSIONS Only one common content component was identified across programs, and the number and types of components vary widely. The role that the common content component plays in treatment effects is discussed, alongside implications for research and clinical practice. Abstract
PURPOSE To understand the meanings that the therapeutic bond assumes for clinical speech therapists. METHODS The research was approved by the Ethics Committee, being of a transversal character, with a quantitative-qualitative approach in the Content Analysis. The research with the participation of 96 clinical speech therapists, registered in the Speech Therapy Council of the 3rd region (CRFa 3), which covers the States of Paraná and Santa Catarina. RESULTS Of the 96 speech therapists included, a significant part of the participants defined the therapeutic bond as a relationship/interaction. Regarding the role of the bond for the speech therapy clinical work, most professionals declared theirs as a fundamental basis and another part of the bond is necessary for the evolution/development of the patient. CONCLUSION It is possible to understand that, according to the therapeutic patients, it is essential to sustain, maintain the clinical work for users, impacting the resignification of the complaint and the minimization of the users' suffering.

Abstract
Purpose: To investigate the relationships among client self-awareness, client perception of the therapeutic alliance, and speech-language pathologist (SLP) communicative self-awareness in dyads of SLPs and traumatic brain injury (TBI) clients.Method: Nineteen SLP-TBI client dyads (N = 38) engaged in the same collaborative therapy task. At baseline, client self-awareness and client perception of the therapeutic alliance was assessed. SLP communicative self-awareness was measured by 1) a prediction/reflection questionnaire about their own communicative behaviour, administered pre- and post-treatment sessions, and 2) self-evaluation during a novel procedure using video review within three hours after the session.Result: Client self-awareness was not associated with client perceptions of the therapeutic alliance. Client perceptions of the therapeutic alliance were related to specific communicative intentions of the SLP. Regarding SLP communicative self-awareness, SLPs predicted their primary communication modality with 66% accuracy. The video review procedure yielded more detailed SLP communicative self-awareness ratings and was completed within real-world clinical settings.Conclusion: TBI client self-awareness may not impact the establishment of a strong therapeutic alliance between SLP and client. The finding that specific communicative intentions of the SLP were related to client perception of the therapeutic alliance should prompt further efforts to measure SLP communicative intentions and behaviours during TBI treatment sessions.

Abstract
PURPOSE Speech and language therapy is a growing profession in Sri Lanka, and little is known about how stuttering is currently managed in the country. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the current stuttering management practices in Sri Lanka and to investigate any barriers to service provision. METHOD A convergent mixed methods design was employed across two phases. Sixty-four Sri Lankan speech and language therapists (SALTs) participated in online surveys in phase one and ten participated in semi structured interviews in phase two. Survey data in phase one was analysed using descriptive statistics and data in phase two was analysed using thematic analysis. Results from both phases were triangulated for the overall interpretation of the data. RESULTS Sri Lankan SALTs conduct a comprehensive assessment, however some assessment contexts (e.g., stuttering beyond the clinic) were not routinely considered. Speech and language therapists reported using multiple and varied intervention approaches/strategies, which were often adapted and/or combined. It was noted that the delivery of treatment was more challenging. Barriers identified were including limited knowledge of some aspects of stuttering management, limited access to resources, and workplace constraints. CONCLUSION Overall, findings revealed that most Sri Lankan SALTs employ a comprehensive and holistic approach in assessment; however, some limited knowledge of the disorder and intervention was identified. Findings highlighted the need for further training for SALTs regarding the management of stuttering, the need for culturally and linguistically validated appropriate assessments as well as the need to consider logistical issues in clinical settings and service delivery.

Abstract
We report on findings from the first randomized controlled pilot trial of virtual reality exposure therapy (VRET) developed specifically for reducing social anxiety associated with stuttering. People who stutter with heightened social anxiety were recruited from online adverts and randomly allocated to receive VRET (n = 13) or be put on a waitlist (n = 12). Treatment was delivered remotely using a smartphone-based VR headset. It consisted of three weekly sessions, each comprising both performative and interactive exposure exercises, and was guided by a virtual therapist. Multilevel model analyses failed to demonstrate the effectiveness of VRET at reducing social anxiety between pre- and post-treatment. We found similar results for fear of negative evaluation, negative thoughts associated with stuttering, and stuttering characteristics. However, VRET was associated with reduced social anxiety between post-treatment and one-month follow-up. These pilot findings suggest that our current VRET protocol may not be effective at reducing social anxiety amongst people who stutter, though might be capable of supporting longer-term change. Future VRET protocols targeting stuttering-related social anxiety should be explored with larger samples. The results from this pilot trial provide a solid basis for further design improvements and for future research to explore appropriate techniques for widening access to social anxiety treatments in stuttering.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Despite the importance of delivering speech and language therapy services to children who stutter (CWS), there are barriers to accessing speech and language therapy. One way to improve access for those who may otherwise be deprived of speech and language therapy services, including CWS, is through telepractice (TP). However, there is currently no evidence as to the viability of TP stuttering assessments for CWS. AIM To investigate the validity and reliability, and acceptability of using a TP application to assess overt stuttering behaviour children aged 6-15 years. METHODS & PROCEDURE A total of 30 CWS, aged between 6 and 15 years, were recruited from a speech therapy clinic in King Abdulaziz University Hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Children were divided into two testing conditions, either face-to-face (f2f)-led or TP-led testing, and the Stuttering Severity Instrument (SSI-IV) was administered, percentage of syllables stuttered (%SS) was calculated, and severity ratings (SR) assigned, either via f2f or via TP using two laptops with webcams, video conference software and a broadband internet connection. Agreement and reliability of scoring in the two testing conditions were reported in addition to findings from questionnaires exploring children's and their caregivers' perceptions both before and immediately after the TP assessment was carried out. OUTCOME & RESULTS A total of 30 sessions were successfully carried out, with results revealing unsatisfactory levels of agreement when applying the Bland and Altman method. However, when discrepancies were found, these were comparable with those from traditional f2f studies. Generally, parents and children exhibited high levels of satisfaction and held a positive view regarding TP pre- and post-assessment. CONCLUSIONS & IMPLICATIONS The results of the study suggest that conducting an overt stuttering assessment via TP for 6-15-year-olds CWS is reliable and valid. Although the TP model posed some (mainly technical) challenges for executing the assessment, high levels of satisfaction were recorded by parents and children alike. The TP system and equipment chosen in this study has provided a basis for the delivery of TP overt stuttering assessment in a clinical setting, thus addressing the barriers to access that are present for CWS. These results are preliminary, but they can be seen as a building block for future research in TP assessment studies for CWS. WHAT THIS PAPER ADDS What is already known on the subject Stuttering treatment via TP has been proven to be feasible and successful across a variety of treatment programs (e.g., Lidcombe, Camperdown). However, the viability of assessing stuttering via videoconferencing has never been explored in children. What this paper adds to existing knowledge Preliminary support for the assessment of overt stuttering in CWS aged 6-15 years via video conferencing. The results justify larger scale studies of this service delivery method. What are the potential or actual clinical implications of this work? The TP system and equipment chosen in this study has provided a basis for the delivery of TP overt stuttering assessment in a clinical setting, thus addressing the barriers to access that are present for CWS aged 6-15 years.

Abstract
Aim Scientific evidence underpins dietetics practice; however, evidence of how the therapeutic relationship influences outcomes is limited. This integrative review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the topic of the therapeutic relationship between clients and dietitians in the individual counselling context by summarising empirical literature into qualitative themes. Methods An electronic literature search of the Cumulative Index of Nursing and Allied Health Literature, PsychInfo, Scopus and Web of Science databases was conducted in October 2018 and repeated in February 2021. Studies were included if they explicitly referred to the therapeutic relationship (or associated terms), were based on study data and available in full text. Extracted data were checked by a second researcher and the methodological quality was evaluated independently by two researchers using the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool. An iterative process of qualitatively coding, categorising and comparing data to examine recurring themes was applied. Results Seventy‐six studies met the inclusion criteria. Five themes were identified which showed the extent and nature of research in this area. Studies revealed the therapeutic relationship: (i) is valued within clinical dietetic practice, (ii) involves complex and multifactorial interactions, (iii) is perceived as having a positive influence, (iv) requires skills training and (v) is embedded in practice models and tools. Conclusion Studies show the therapeutic relationship is a valued and multifactorial component of clinical dietetic practice and is perceived to positively influence the client and dietitian. Observational data are needed to assess the extent to which the strength of the therapeutic relationship might contribute to clients' health outcomes.

Abstract
Virtual Reality Exposure Therapy (VRET) has been shown to be an effective technique for reducing social anxiety. People who stutter are at greater risk of developing heightened social anxiety. Cognitive behavior therapy protocols have shown promise in reducing social anxiety in people who stutter, but no studies have investigated VRET targeting social anxiety associated with stuttering. The aim of the current review is to provide an overview of VRET techniques used to treat social anxiety and insights into how these techniques might be adopted in the case of comorbid stuttering and social anxiety. Twelve studies were reviewed to understand key distinctions in VRET protocols used to treat social anxiety. Distinctions include exercises targeting public speaking vs. general social anxiety, computer-generated virtual environments vs. 360° video, and therapist guided vs. automated VRET. Based on the review findings, we propose how certain features could be applied in the case of stuttering. Virtual therapists, inhibitory learning techniques and integration into speech therapy may be suitable ways to tailor VRET. Regardless of these different techniques, VRET should consider the situations and cognitive-behavioral processes that underlie the experience of social anxiety amongst people who stutter.

Abstract
Objective To examine the effect of different management methods on the effectiveness of care preventive programmes for community-dwelling older adults. Methods This study comprised two facilitator-led (FL) and one participant-led (PL) preventive care classes in Japan. All participants received the intervention for approximately 12 weeks. Functional assessments, occupational dysfunctions, and subjective health were measured before and after the interventions. A two-way mixed design analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was adopted to examine the effect of the interventions, adjusted for previous experiences with preventive care services. The level of significance was set at P < 0.05. Results Fourteen participants in the PL group (76.64 ± 6.48 years, 92.9% women) and 29 participants in the FL group (76.55 ± 5.75 years, 75.9% women) were included in the statistical analysis. ANCOVA showed significant group × time interaction effects in the Five Times Sit-to-Stand Test (FTSST), the Timed Up & Go (TUG), occupational deprivation of the Classification and Assessment of Occupational Dysfunction Scale, and self-rated health. Simple main effect tests showed that the TUG decreased significantly in the PL group, while occupational deprivation and self-rated health scores improved significantly. In contrast, FTSST scores significantly improved in the FL group. Conclusion PL-type management may be more appropriate for preventing social isolation and withdrawal, while FL-type management may be more appropriate for preventing physical frailty. Selecting not only adequate programmes but also an appropriate management type that matches the service purpose can help provide more effective care preventive services.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Evidence-based practice involves the synthesis of multiple forms of evidence to inform clinical decision-making and treatment evaluation. Practice- and patient-based evidence are two forms of evidence that are under-represented in the stuttering literature. The collection of such knowledge is essential to support the design and delivery of effective stuttering interventions for adults. AIMS To build stakeholder consensus on the core components of intervention for adults who stutter, and to establish a guiding framework for the design and development of evidence-based interventions for adults who stutter. METHODS & PROCEDURES Adults who stutter and speech and language therapists (SLTs) with experience in providing stuttering intervention participated in the three-round e-Delphi Survey focused on: (1) identifying key stuttering intervention components, including principles, practices, and structural and contextual elements; and (2) obtaining group consensus on stuttering intervention components. Statements were categorized using the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) model adapted to the study of stuttering. OUTCOMES & RESULTS A total of 48 individuals agreed to participate: 48/48 (100%) completed the Round 1 questionnaire, 40/48 (83%) responded to Round 2 and 36/40 (90%) participated in Round 3. Following content analysis of Round 1, 101 statements were developed, and consensus was achieved on 89 statements perceived as representing the core components of stuttering intervention for adults. Categorization of these statements reflected the key stuttering intervention components relating to personal reactions to stuttering, limitations in life participation and environmental factors. CONCLUSIONS & IMPLICATIONS Consensus on the core components of stuttering intervention was reached through engagement with key stakeholders. The evidence-based framework presented highlights the range of key intervention components a clinician should consider when designing interventions for adults who stutter. WHAT THIS PAPER ADDS What is already known on the subject Evidence-based practice endorses the synthesis of multiple knowledge forms including research, practice and patient evidence to support clinical decision-making and treatment evaluation. The stuttering literature is characterized by an over-representation of efficacy evidence, with significantly less practice and patient evidence to guide clinical practice. What this paper adds to existing knowledge This study adds valuable practice- and patient-based evidence for effective stuttering intervention components for adults who stutter. These relate to personal reactions to stuttering, limitations in life participation and environmental factors. What are the potential or actual clinical implications of this work? This research presents a stakeholder-informed framework for stuttering intervention to guide SLTs working with adults who stutter in designing evidence-based interventions. The framework supports the adoption of a person-centred approach to intervention to ensure each client's unique needs, preferences, values and desired outcomes are explored and integrated into therapy.

The Relational Fit in Organizational Interventions-What Can Organizational Research Learn from Research in Psychotherapy? Abstract
There is a growing interest in organizational interventions (OI) aiming to increase employees' well-being. An OI involves changes in the way work is designed, organized, and managed. Studies have shown that an OI's positive results are increased if there is a good fit between context and intervention and between participant and intervention. In this article, we propose that a third fit-the Relational Fit (R-Fit)-also plays an important role in determining an intervention's outcome. The R-Fit consists of factors related to (1) the employees participating in the OI, (2) the intervention facilitator, and (3) the quality of the relation between participants and the intervention facilitator. The concept of the R-Fit is inspired by research in psychotherapy documenting that participant factors, therapist factors, and the quality of the relations explain 40% of the effect of an intervention. We call attention to the importance of systematically evaluating and improving the R-Fit in OIs. This is important to enhance the positive outcomes in OIs and thereby increase both the well-being and productivity of employees. We introduce concrete measures that can be used to study and evaluate the R-Fit. This article is the first to combine knowledge from research in psychotherapy with research on OIs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Self-assessments for adults who stutter are recommended as a primary evaluation tool for including their views on stuttering. Evaluating adults who stutter with self-assessment scales is important. However, there is no tool in the Turkish literature that provides this measurement. AIMS To develop the Turkish version of The Wright and Ayre Stuttering Self-Rating Profile (WASSP) in order to analyse its validity and reliability, and investigate its applicability for Turkish-speaking individuals. METHODS & PROCEDURES The study included 120 adults who stutter (aged 18-54 years). All the participants completed The Wright and Ayre Stuttering Self-Rating Profile-Turkish version (WASSP-TR) and the SF-36 form. The reliability analysis involved the calculation of Cronbach's alphas for test-retest and the Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient for internal consistency. The validity analysis, in turn, involved a confirmatory factor analysis for construct validity and testing correlations with the SF-36 for criterion validity. OUTCOMES & RESULTS Internal consistency coefficients of the WASSP-TR were reported to be high (> 0.70). The correlations between the WASSP-TR and its subscales showed significant results (0.858-0.966) (p < 0.01). The correlation between the subscales of the WASSP-TR and the SF-36 was reported to be consistent (from -0.492 to 0.747). There was a positive correlation between stuttering severity groups and the WASSP-TR scores (p < 0.01). CONCLUSIONS & IMPLICATIONS The WASSP-TR is a valid and reliable scale for Turkish-speaking adults who stutter. What this paper adds What is already known on the subject Self-assessment tools are recommended as a primary use when assessing adults who stutter. The WASSP is one of these measurement tools. However, the adaptation, validity and reliability study of the WASSP to Turkish has not been investigated. What this paper adds to existing knowledge This study shows that the Turkish version of the WASSP scale is valid and reliable and can be used with adults who stutter. Furthermore, the present adaptation study has been developed in order to evaluate social-emotional aspects of stuttering. What are the potential or actual clinical implications of this work? A tool that includes evaluating the behaviour, cognition, affect and participation areas as well as the stuttering behaviours of adults who stutter was adapted. This tool is expected to be useful for comprehensive evaluation of adults who stutter in clinics, in research and for pre/post-therapy.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) work with patients after total laryngectomy (TL) to regain verbal communication. The influence of the quality of the therapeutic relationship on the success of TL voice rehabilitation in terms of speech intelligibility is not known. Finding each other likeable is an important factor in establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships in everyday life. The fit of therapist and client is relevant to the therapeutic relationship. The purpose of this study therefore was to assess the association between the degree of SLPs' likeability ratings and postlaryngectomy speech intelligibility. METHODS In a multicentre prospective cohort study, participants rated their SLPs' likeability after finishing TL rehabilitation. Speech intelligibility was measured objectively with the Post-Laryngectomy Telephone Intelligibility Test and subjectively with the Questionnaire for Adjustment after Laryngectomy. The association of SLPs' likeability with speech intelligibility was analysed using hierarchical logistic regression, expressed with odds ratios (OR) with corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CI). RESULTS Altogether 124 patients from 13 institutions participated. The degree of finding the SLP likeable was not significantly associated with objective speech intelligibility (OR 1.30; 95% CI 0.78-2.18; p = 0.32) or subjective speech intelligibility (OR 1.01; 95% CI 0.60-1.72; p = 0.96) after controlling for age, sex and education factors. DISCUSSION/CONCLUSION In this patient cohort, there was no evidence for an association between ratings of SLPs' likeability and speech intelligibility outcomes after rehabilitation. Future studies could consider the use of alternative instruments for measuring likeability.

Abstract
BACKGROUND While evidence-based practice is widely endorsed by researchers, clinicians and professional bodies as a guiding framework for the provision of quality care to clients, the reliance on efficacy evidence may overshadow the benefits of other knowledge forms in supporting intervention design and evaluation. Due consideration needs to be given to varied forms of evidence, including practice and patient evidence. Stuttering intervention for adults is one area in which there is a significant shortage of practice-based research literature. AIMS This study aimed to add to practice evidence by exploring the perspectives of international researchers and clinical experts on the components of effective stuttering intervention. This practice-based evidence will be used to inform the multi-stakeholder co-design of an evidence-based stuttering intervention for adults. METHODS & PROCEDURES Criteria defining expertise were developed based on a review of the literature. Experts were recruited using purposive sampling and snowballing. Seventeen international experts were approached, of which 10 completed semi-structured interviews. Interview questions were developed and centred on five topics: the nature of stuttering; efficacy evidence base; intervention techniques, principles of effective intervention; and outcome measurement. OUTCOMES & RESULTS Inductive thematic analysis identified three overarching themes: 'One size doesn't fit all', 'A really collaborative relationship where we are both bringing our sense of expertise to this' and 'Some of the most frustrating things'. CONCLUSIONS & IMPLICATIONS These findings emphasize the complexity of stuttering intervention, the need for individually tailored treatments and the role of multiple factors, beyond therapeutic technique, that influence treatment outcomes. Findings also demonstrate the benefit of collecting practice-based evidence to support clinical decision-making and intervention evaluation.
