Abstract
Advancements in food-contaminant detection technologies can significantly improve food safety and human health. Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) has become the preferred analytical method for food-safety detection owing to its numerous advantages, which include unique 'molecular fingerprinting' features, high sensitivity, rapid responses, and non-invasive characteristics. Raman-signal enhancements rely heavily on high-performance SERS substrates. In recent years, metal-organic framework (MOF)-based SERS substrates have gained attention as promising candidates for developing SERS technologies owing to their distinctive structures and functions. This review comprehensively examines recent advances in MOF-based SERS substrates, focusing on the main role of MOFs in SERS substrates as well as their typical categories and structures, construction methods, and representative applications in food-contaminant detection. First, the primary roles of MOFs in SERS substrates are briefly introduced. Next, a comprehensive overview of the typical categories and structures of MOF-based SERS substrates is discussed. Subsequently, a fundamental view of the general construction methods for MOF-based SERS substrates is presented. Next, the main applications of MOF-based SERS substrates for food-contaminant detection are summarised. Finally, challenges and perspectives, including improvements in SERS performance and stability, and the unification of SERS mechanisms, are addressed and discussed.

Abstract
The increasing attention towards environmental quality, food safety, public security and medical diagnosis demands high requirements and standards for chemical sensors with merits of rapid response, high precision, long-term stability and reusability. In this case, a prominent innovation in sensory materials holds potential to realize new generations of chemical sensor technologies. Specifically, photonic crystals (PCs) as structured dielectric materials with spatially periodic ordered arrangements offer unique advantages in improving the sensing performance of chemical sensors. Consequently, the promising properties of PCs promote research on their implementation as an integral part of chemical sensors. This review highlights the integration of PCs into chemical sensors including a range of building blocks for the construction of PCs with versatile opal or opal inverse structural architectures and a delicate choice of surface functionality with associated sensing interfaces for target recognition and signal transduction. Subsequently, based on their synthesis and functionality, we focus on introducing the sensing principles of recent advances in PC-based chemical sensors, such as reflection spectra-based sensing, visual colorimetric sensing, fluorescence sensing, surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS)-based sensing and other integrated sensing. Finally, the future prospects and challenges are discussed for the further improvement of PC-based chemical sensors.

Abstract
The development of new electrochemiluminescence (ECL) luminophores has become a hot research topic in the field of ECL. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are widely used in ECL sensors due to their excellent ECL performance, high porosity, and abundant surface functional groups. In the work, we developed a cerium-based organic backbone as an ECL luminophor using 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(4-carboxyphenyl)-porphyrin (TCPP) as organic ligand for the detection of trenbolone (TRE). Importantly, the Ce-MOFs can effectively prevent the self-aggregation and self-quenching of TCPP, so that the ECL signal is amplified. To further improve the conductivity and antigen loading capacity of the Ce-MOFs, platinum nanosheets (Pt NPs) were modified at its surface (Pt NPs@MOFs). The Au-ZnO with good biocompatibility is used as the substrate material to load that antibody through the Au-NH2. Based on the above strategy, we constructed a competitive immunosensor to achieve a highly sensitive detection of TRE. Under suitable circumstances, it was discovered that the ECL sensor had a linear relationship with the logarithm of the TRE concentration, with a limit of detection (LOD) of 3.61 fg/mL (S/N = 3). This work provides direction for the application of organic luminescent porphyrins and their derivatives in ECL sensors.

Abstract
Trace amounts of mycotoxins in food matrices have caused a very serious problem of food safety and have attracted widespread attention. Developing accurate, sensitive, rapid mycotoxin detection and control strategies adapted to the complex matrices of food is crucial for in safeguarding public health. With the continuous development of nanotechnology and materials science, various nanoscale materials have been developed for the purification of complex food matrices or for providing response signals to achieve the accurate and rapid detection of various mycotoxins in food products. This article reviews and summarizes recent research (from 2018 to 2023) on new strategies and methods for the accurate or rapid detection of mold toxins in food samples using nanoscale materials. It places particular emphasis on outlining the characteristics of various nanoscale or nanostructural materials and their roles in the process of detecting mycotoxins. The aim of this paper is to promote the in-depth research and application of various nanoscale or structured materials and to provide guidance and reference for the development of strategies for the detection and control of mycotoxin contamination in complex matrices of food.

Abstract
The aim of this research was to develop a simple, rapid, sensitive, high-throughput detection method for foodborne Escherichia coli (E. coli) O157:H7 based on the aptamer-modified gold nanoparticles@macroporous magnetic silica photonic microsphere (Au@MMSPM). Such Au@MMSPM array system for E. coli O157:H7 not only integrated sample pretreatment with rapid detection, but also showed highly enhanced effect to develop a highly sensitive SERS assay. The established SERS assay platform gave a wide linear detection range (10-106 CFU/mL) and low limit of detection (2.20 CFU/mL) for E. coli O157:H7. The whole analysis time including sample pretreatment and detection was 110 min. This SERS-based assay platform provided a new high-throughput, highly sensitive and fast detection technology for monitoring E. coli O157:H7 in real samples from the fields of food industry, medicine and environment.
